Yeah, my parents sent me to rehab when I was 15 because I was dating a 22 year old and kept running away from home. I think I definitely had a drinking problem back then but I didn't want to stop so I lied my ass off and my insurance would only pay for 2 weeks because I convinced my counselor that I didn't have a problem. Also, I started smoking cigarettes just to spite my parents. I was a pretty bad kid. I actually did become a real addict when I was like 18.. Now I'm 26 and about to celebrate 2 years clean from alcohol and heroin..

That’s crazy. I know a lot of people who should have been there instead of you. I deal with a lot of shit myself. Depression and anxiety mostly. Just got over a huge down spiral. Eventually you get past it if you want to bad enough. I look back and see all the crap I’ve been through as a kid and even as an early adult and sometimes think, “Holy fuck... how did I even get through it.”
However, my struggles are only half of the crap you deal with. You got this girl. It really doesn’t matter what or who you are because everyone has their own shit and people will say what they want. Just know there are people out there who love you for you and support you 110% like I do. I do know for a fact that us women have to stick together! I’m a recent follower, but love you to pieces! Take care of yourself! 💖

What kind of rehab takes people who obviously aren’t addicts? (I guess a for profit one)
Allie Doak Eh, most rehab places will take the word of the parents when it comes to this kind of thing and their logic is soooo flawed. One girl was in rehab with me, for weed, she kept saying, "I don't belong here" and they would argue saying, "Well you obviously had a problem with weed it you couldn't stop for probation". She was using it for anxiety and very much against pharmaceuticals.
So weird.
Sue Z that’s so odd, I live in New Zealand and people I know have/had the opposite problem as for profit rehab here is too expensive for most people and non-profit/state-rehab is under funded and is quite difficult to get into
Yeaah...though I can't blame some therapists for completely missing the mark. Many people with actual addiction problems to full blown proportions can be in painful denial, because the whole area between being addicted and using it as a coping mechanism because of underlying problems that first need to be adressed can be a very slippery slope. It is sad that some therapists might help one person by making them aware of their problems can really unintentionally gaslight and harm people who really needed to be listened to and help in other areas rather than the addiction area.
maybe it is the post-reagan 'war on drugs' era still having its effect on US society, making rehab the number one place to go to. In the Netherlands it is also more like in New Zealand I think. affordable places to go to are basic therapy places, clinics and all that jazz get funded less and less, and also there is kind of a major stigma on them (you craycray if you get yourself admitted to some clinic, because all are 'loony bins')

This is why people need to put special implications for us LGBTQ folks, especially us transgender folks because I had a similar story where I was kicked out by my extended family for being transgender and I had to stay at a share house and slept with the boys and I HATED it! It’s so hard being transgender, especially if you’re pre op! I wish I had the money to get SRS so much though! I was never into drugs though lol.

Sue Z no, i agree. rehab is def not for her. what i was trying to say is she said she was using drugs recreationally and partying during a period when she was v depressed, which is very common. it's sad that our society normalizes recreational drug use, it just shows how depressed our society is. i don't think people should simplify and normalize drug use by saying "everyone does it". of course, that perspective changes depending on the drug. and even in my original response i even said rehab wasn't for her LOL
So sorry you had to go through that, but like you said if you can get through the tough times once, you can do it again. That is such a powerful message to put out there. Love your videos!

Honestly you are right you were not a addict at that point but eventually if you kept on it could of turn you into a addict esp what you were dealing with on the inside. I only say this cause that is how I started and 6 months later I realized I was starting to craving the drugs from that point my addiction went on for 3 years or so. After going to jail a lot from my Xanax benches, I finally got clean after trying a few times before and relapsing. I have now been clean since 2012. So you're parents did send you to rehab but it might of been a good thing, that way it did not turn into addiction cause it only takes one time to find that one drug you become addicted too even if you have tried a bunch of other drugs and never got addicted. Trust me on that.
parents make the worst decisions sometimes (a lot of the time). actually listening to their children for once would go a long way. i loved this video tho, you're a great storyteller

Aw Victoria, i'm sorry :( I had something similar happen to me but like not about drugs. I pretty much escaped being locked up for being depressed in the psych ward three times in the same two weeks. I got a 51/50 put out on my ass just because the nurses and doctors were transphobic and wanted to see me locked up. I feel you, i'm honestly still traumatized from being held for 8 hours in a cold room being watched by some sadistic ass nurses.

I was that kid u were talking about I did all that shit as a kid now I'm a 25 yr old that has been on the methadone program for almost 3 years & I've been to so many rehabs I lost count after 7. Everyone talks so much shit about methadone but it legit saved my life. I always said I'll never get addicted to drugs that will never happen to me I just like to smoke weed & take pills on the weekend, yeah fuckin right, for the rest of my life I have to fight with my own brain every damn day to not get high, I wouldn't wish it upon my worst nightmare.

I had a very similar experience recently where I was sectioned into a psychiatric hospital for sleeping 12 hours a day.

Just like going to jail makes people who maybe made a mistake into true criminals, going to rehab tends to make people believe the worst about themselves regarding their drug use- especially when they are put into rehab against their will. Speaking from experience, the one thing that makes a difference between successful and unsuccessful drug rehabilitation is whether or not it was the user that made the choice to participate.
We have a pretty similar story.... it’s nice to be able to find someone like you that’s so relatable .

Victoria, I understand what you are trying to say. It is really important to accept that your parents did not have all of the answers, the same as you didn't in your quest to escape. They love you and as you say they faced a financial hardship to help you instead of simply kicking you out in the street. The trans part complicates everything and adds a huge burden few people undetstamd so that is unfortunate. You gained an insight from that experience, that you are not and will not end up an addict and that is very valuable and a powerful motivator. You can't change the past, but you can learn from it. Find a way to loose the bitterness because it will hold you back from being great. One way to look at it is that you can be a very empathetic person knowing what you do which you can use to help others. I wish you the best on this Christmas day!

You will be fine, I know very Few T girls who didnt use drugs at that age, its not an Easy life, most have to escort Early to afford meds and operations after familes and friends cut them off because of not acepting them etc, Most end up fine by their late 20s.
