These cars are about 10k cheaper than msrp. I own a GT EV9. Best car I’ve ever owned. I traded in a loaded 4 runner for it
They look so sweet.
It s a Kia.
@@Ops535Indeed. In the new world of EVs, that means it's one of the best cars you can buy.
The antonym would be "It's a Toyota" meaning it's one of the worst EVs you can buy.
As an owner, the ac thing isn’t a nuisance since I use auto and just adjust the temp. Also that does expand to the bigger screen if you pushed the x thing in the top right. I am also coming from a model Y that was wrecked and totaled. My. 2 cents. Kia is a better car (riding and what not) and Tesla is a better technology piece. I love both.
Coming from a Tesla: this frunk is tiny!
Coming from any other car: It has a frunk? Why?
V2L is the reason you buy Kia… It’s like having 25 Ecoflows…
I’d take the 10 year warranty
Oh jeez. That key fob is enormous!
My favorite channel for EV news! I also use the front trunk for take out food. 😊 My 2023 model 3 is 1.5 years old and still smells like new. And Kim and company was my biggest inspiration to buy my Tesla.
Thanks for the kind words and for supporting!
If it smells that bad, should you be eating it ?
@@eugeniustheodidactus8890 I didn’t say the food smells bad. I don’t like my car to smell like any food.
@rommelreyes7616 I will agree this is a good channel and one of my favorites to find EV news. But, I found through watching Kim and company that it was better to steer away from the Tesla brand and be inspired to purchase from another EV brand. I am six months in switching off ICE and have no regrets. For the record, the Kia EV9 looks pretty good over the Tesla Model X as shown here by Kim and company.
Sure would be nice if every EV would plug in on the same spot.
Masterful vehicle! Enviable of the switchgear. Korea is the new Japan.
Uhm … no.
Super user friendly for the Ev 9.
But at what cost? The EV nine, like every other non-Tesla EV, costs far more to manufacture than it is sold at.
@@jameshoffman552 I doubt it , its nearly as easy to produce something great , as crap stuff , it's just about energy , will ,and attention to detail.
@@jameshoffman552 : Kia's operating margin in 1Q 2024 (EV+ICE): 13%; Tesla 5.5%. I think Kia knows how to keep cost down.
All the lines line up on the ev9 so we’ll. Great quality for a “Kia.” They have stepped up their game massively.
I don’t understand why we need a motorized charge door.
Who has the time or strength to manually open a Charged door
I have a Model Y performance and an EV9 Land.. love them both
Been using EA charging system for 2 years now. 99.9% of the problem is the user error. I pull up plug in and tap my phone done.....every time.
I have tesla model Y and ioniq5. I have no complaints about EA system. It takes 3 seconds longer to connect than tesla charging.....deal with it!
I've seen that NFC reader be broken at a lot of chargers. I activate it on the app to start charging.
Kia is cool. Still love Tesla so much more with its amazing tech and nearly worry-free trip charging. Looking forward to. Part 2. Lotsa love to all ❤❤❤
Family road trip! I love the these videos. We get a better idea of what the vehicle capabilities are and how it performed. Thanks Kim, PJ and kiddo's!😊
We have a GT trim and love it! They charge at around 220kw max, not 350kw. As for EA, it is def not the best network but we just road tripped a couple days ago and had no problems other than one station was full with one of the charging stations not working. We were in Atlanta and another station was relatively close by and practically empty. First charger we pulled in worked great and got from 20% to 83% in about 25 mins easy.
Love your work Kim! seriously, the model X is due for a refresh. We were really close to buying one last year with the big price drop, but decided to wait for the juniper instead. Many people want a High and Tesla to have all the latest tech and gadgets… The model no longer has that. Where is the heads up display or massaging seats or electro tenting glass?
It's amazing how fast these E-GMP platforms charge at 350kW chargers, but… 'tis true that Electrify America had GOT to do better by expanding their sites, and with more *reliable* stations. Me? I'd forego the matte paint and opt for the lighted accents instead. I can attest that the forward camera is truly useful! 'Tis true that at Superchargers the max charging rate is limited (most examples I've seen are at 97kW), but… those rates *hold steady* all the way to 80%, nearly twice as fast as the percentage a Tesla has dropped to at 80%. I can tell you that I've learned to love my digital rear view mirror. Did you notice that, to change the cabin filter, you simply open a cover to access it at the back of the frunk? So much more convenient and easy than crawling into the footwell in your Tesla! For a family with kids like yours, the EV9 is the winner. No question. Can't wait to see your roadtrip in one.
The Kia Ev9 is a very nice full size 3 row Ev and as some options that I'm surprised that Tesla doesn't offer yet, maybe they will in time. The major head scratcher is that it's 2024 and we are halfway to 2025 and Tesla Superchargers still can't deliver charging speeds to take advantage of a 800v system. Don't get me wrong, the superchargers are very reliable and easy to use but they seem to be lagging in charging speeds compared to Electrify America or even fast chargers in Europe or Asia. I guess it wouldn't be good for their sales if the supercharger was able to deliver 200-250 kwh to non Tesla vehicles with 800v systems that can use Nacs. Imagine watching a Ev9 at the same SOC plugs in the same time you plug in your Tesla model X and the Ev9 finishes charging 10-15 mins before you, that wouldn't be amusing.
Maybe if VW loses another multi billion dollar settlement they can update and expand EA. Until that happens, nothing will change. Well... things will get worse.
Yes, it's easy to get stuck on the "peak" number and forget that what actually determines the charging experience is not that single number, but the full charging curve, or in other words, the total time spent at the charger.
In this respect, both Tesla and Kia are among the best.
Although, Lucid and Porsche can do even better, if you can afford it, and if you find a good 350kW charger - which is becoming easier almost every day.
The charging debacle for this is a major setback. The door is on the wrong side to use Tesla charger, then they cannot charge at full speed. If you can find an out of the way Electrify America station to theoretically charge quickly, you're playing Russian roulette that it will even turn on.
We got spoiled by the perfect Tesla charging experiences over the years and now when you step into something like a Rivian or Kia, you really miss knowing a "supercharger" is going to be close, working, and fast. I'd pass on the KIA until things get sorted out.
rivian has superchargers ?
@@danvarughese yep, they’re called Rivian Adventure Centers. They’re few and far between of course.
One solution to help "sort out" things is that A27 is now developing NACS extension cords to help deal with those short cables.
@@danvarughese yes with an adopter you can use tesla super chagers
11:29 I’m surprised you didn’t mention how the model X headsets make it harder to install car seats since they don’t separate from the seat to thread the seatbelt through 😮
I actually did, but didn’t make the final cut…not sure if we kept it in in part 2 though.
@@ItsKimJava no worries. Just reminding you
Certainly easier to attach kid seats than it was in the 80’s
Great work!! Super helpful!
I work for a company that supplies chargers to EA and I do maintenance on them. The one pictured is not from my company.
EA mainly bought chargers from three companies. And instead of having those companies do maintenance on the chargers, they tried to have a single company not affiliated with any of those three do all of the maintenance. What happened was a disaster.
EA then decided that they needed my company to do the maintenance on our chargers. So I started a year ago. At that time, you'd be lucky if 1-2 chargers at the 9 stations I routinely go to worked. Now it's maybe 1-2 chargers at all of my stations are down.
But, I think EA is going to drop us doing the maintenance on our chargers since we are too "expensive." You get what you pay for though.
EA did put some chargers at a new station at a mall from the company shown in the video. Within a week, five of the six chargers were down.
And Hyundai and Kia make drastically better cars than Tesla. Tesla has way more confusing menus and controls than any car I've ever driven. Plus the drivers are snobs.
My brother has a
Mustang Mach e. He got a J1772 Adapter and he can charge at a Tesla charger.
Mach E for the WIN! Love mine. Although the EV9 is kinda growing on me, but likely would not buy one.
Did Ford fix all the major problems they had with the Mach e? I heard there were a bunch of recalls for this car. Also, the Tesla charging port is a NACS port, not the 1772, but I know what you mean. I am curious, how fast does the Mach e charge on the Tesla supercharging (250KW) superchargers? Also, what type of batteries is Ford using? If Ford is using the wrong battery chemistry, the range of the batteries will significantly degrade in just a few years. Ford has a tendency to cheap-out and screw their customers in hidden ways.
@@Annette_Hons I believe Kia and Hyundai are moving to Teslas standard chargers starting 4th quarter of this year!
This seems like a fantastic vehicle, but I am highly intrigued to see how it does on the road. Also heated and ventilated rears for 70.k is nice
Part 2 coming in the next couple of days dives into that. Thanks for watching!
I bought those filters from your last video and that same company had Tesla connector style USB plugs that are at 90 degrees so they don't break off from back seat ruckus.
We have those cables too, they’re great!
Nice review. One minor thing, the latest Superchargers are V4 and many V4 installations have some stalls with the charging stand in the middle and long cables that can reach either side of the car.
Exciting comparison!
Hi there. Nice video. So my comment is slightly off topic but on brand for you I think. I noticed you have a Rheem gas water heater (50 gal?) in your garage & wanted to suggest you look into upgrading to an all electric Rheem hybrid water heater. It's a heat pump water heater with two heating elements (hence hybrid) & it's awesome. We have 1 & run it on heat pump only & it kicks butt. It will also cool & dehumidify your garage as it heats your water. FYI we have 3 EVs, 1 kid & I plumb for a living. :) Cheers.
Yes! Eventually, you won't even have to ask for it
California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Virginia have passed right-to-charge laws aiming to streamline the installation of residential community EV charging stations. Also, Illinois recently passed a right-to-charge law specific to new houses or multiunit buildings.
Soon if an apartment does not have charging they will not have renters.
Model X is so long in the tooth. Nice job Kia.
I park outdoors. How does the motorized charger door hold up with a car covered with snow and ice?
Awesome review as always
Thanks for watching
I like the hub caps because I like tri angles. 😅
How do you change the tire?
Eventually, EA will have NACS and so will every Kia/Hyundai EV. Give it a year or two...
i will take EV9/6 any day.
15:13 that is hill decent control (HDC) not to "level out your car"
Ev9 and tesla are both FAR superior than any gas car but the ev9 is the absolute best car in the globe. I own one and a Tesla as well. Both awesome cars.
Wish it had a better range for how big it is, and it’s a family car which means road trips but the range is going be a major set back
True 303 miles is not enough.
Needs to like 500 miles per charge
Family road trips means a stop every 250 miles or less. And plenty of time for charging.
Besides that, charging speed and efficiency are more important than range, in determining total trip time - even without kids.
I grade on Software, Hardware……then design. Tesla gets 2 of 3. Kia has a cool design. Dave Ramsey would say avoid both, but if you were going to make a huge financial leap on one of these depreciating beasts…..which one would give you more peace of mind.
Tap on + top right corner on AC screen and it will extend to main screen
Price: between $56k and $75k.
Have you had any issues with the 12v battery system?
Pushing to 9k no issue
Front frunk in ev 9 is a complete joke. Sorry Kia , need to bring it.
Yeah, only the RWD EV9 has a worthwhile frunk. AWD is a joke, it can only hold a charging cable.
The matte paint is cool and all, but people need to learn how to properly take care of it prior to buying. Great review of this vehicle so far, best one I've seen. Its not for me, I love my Mach E, but I think Kia did a great job with this one!
Thanks for watching!
HOAs are the bane of modern day living!
You don’t even know the battle we’ve been fighting with solar.
It's why nobody complains of the neighbor w a project car in the driveway sitting on cyclinder blocks for 6 months or an unseaworthy boat sitting on a trailer w flat tires.
@@ItsKimJavaRestrictions against solar power should be absolutely prohibited, everywhere. The implications are just so far reaching.
If that wheel is steadfast, how does one access the lug nuts to remove the wheel? I rotate my tires myself on my Model Y, it's just quicker and easier to do it myself because I have the equipment.
Actual concern: if they can't remove those hubcaps, how do the tires get changed/rotated??
They can be removed.
Thank you Kim and PJ! No NACS and limited charging speed…not thanks. However when KIA (and Hyundai) finally bring out NACS, this is something I would consider.
I've ridden in a Kia Hybrid. I kinda want a Kia Sportage Hybrid, unless they have them as EVs now.
It just doesn't make sense for the charging port to be anywhere but the driver's side rear.
Driver Front - have to close the door and walk to the front.
Passenger side - front or back - have to walk around the car to charge.
Driver Read - open door - plug in - done... door can stay open -
If you have curbside charging, which is more common in some places, you want the port on the curb side. You're usually going there anyway, you don't have to stand in traffic to plug and unplug your car, you aren't pulling the cable across your car's paint (if it's a cable on an overhead retractor), and it's not sticking into traffic where it can catch passing cyclists. Arguably the inconvenience to drivers who don't usually use curbside changing is outweighed by the danger to people who do. You can have a preference, but please don't say that there's no reason why other preferences exist.
@@seabreamAs things develop, level 2 chargers everywhere, including curbside charging, should become the universal norm.
YES!!! PHYSICAL BUTTONS!!!! No having to dive into several layers of menus for the basics when on the move is a godsend, not to mention minus the driver distraction hazard when everything is so often done purely through the touchscreen.
My daughter is 5'5😂
Does it have Dog mode or Pet mode?
Yes it's called utility mode. Can be enabled in the EV settings menu.
It has crush your little brother mode. Just hit the button and watch the seat do it's thing! Fun!
@@JonathanRootD I don't know whether it's different in the EV9, but in the Ioniq 6 on the same platform, it doesn't let you lock the car from the outside with utility mode on, and it doesn't have the large message on the display telling potentially concerned passersby that the climate control is running and the pet is at a safe temperature, so it's not really equivalent. Granted, that could be different in the EV9, and it could be changed with a software update even if it isn't.
You might be able to do what some people have found success doing with the Ioniq 5, where you can lock the doors from the outside by reaching in through the open driver's window to use the inside switches; pressing the door lock button on the armrest, then activating the window to close and pulling your arm out before it gets caught. That doesn't work so well on the Ioniq 6 because those controls are on the centre console, and people generally can't reach that far.
Id that the new eco flow? Will it charge your car?
Yes!
@@ItsKimJava awesome! I will definitely be upgrading my Eco Flow. Great video too Kia is really getting it
I’m still biased towards the BYD Tang and Han!
Here in Canada the diff in price with the Model X is so great that there is no competition. EV9 wins against the Model X.. And even their lower trim can beat the Model Y. Only issue with it is the lack of 360 camera on the lower trims.
You can't go through a car wash if you have the Matte finish. It looks cool but I'd skip it.
Great part 1 video and looking forward to part 2. But if I won’t buy an ICE KIA I’m not buying an EV KIA.
Thanks for watching, we appreciate your viewership!
Kia makes some really nice vehicles. You should reset your opinion of the brand and check one out.
@@Cttechexpress Agreed. Bought a KIA and put 280k miles on it. The car cost only $12k and the fuel cost another $23k! lol
nice landscapes. however, probably EVs are best for daily commute, not doing road trips. at the moment at least.
this is basically an EV minivan. I wanna see Honda and Toyota make and EV version of their minivans
Forget about Honda and especially Toyota. The whole Toyota family are totally against EVs
The Lucid Gravity is an actual minivan. Really any SUV that isn’t body on frame could be considered a minivan.
The Lucid Gravity has the proportions of a minivan. Also, the 3rd row seats fold into the floor.
Kim, PJ: knowing what you know now about this H.A. if shopping for a house so that you could afford a Tesla again, do you think that you would have avoided choosing a house in a H.A. due to the restrictions that poses? I remember Kim often complaining about the unreasonable restrictions regarding rooftop solar; the head of the H.A. not liking the aesthetics of them is NOT a reasonable excuse for refusal, IMHO. Aesthetics are normally a personal preference and have very little to do with the environment outside of one's personal sphere of influence.
the area is nice as is the school district, but yes the HOA restrictions and the severity of those restrictions are something I would've never imagined. Neighbor got in trouble because his raised bed tomato garden was too high in his backyard. 😭
@@ItsKimJava 🤣🤣🤣 Vege garden raised bed too high & in the back garden to boot!!!??? That's ridiculous. Sounds like he has busybody neighbours with nothing better to do, than tattle tale.
I've seen videos whereby several couples made beautiful AND immaculate front gardens but because they didn't fit into the 'lawns only' H.A. restriction rules, they were being threatened with legal action by the H.A. How ridiculous is THAT!!!???
Do you know there’s a car with a 710 mile range you don’t have to charge. All you have to do is go to quick trip take 2 minutes to fill up. I just drove it from Atlanta to west palm beach non stop.

The Kia is totally crushing Tesla in almost everything. Kia is a premium car brand, Tesla is not.
But Tesla biggest problem is that all models are outdated, booring and lack a lot of new tech.
The competition is way ahead of Tesla, and they have a massive homework to do.
...and to get rid of Elon asap, a total embarrasment to the Tesla brand, once the leading EV manufacture

First of all, it’s a Kia
The range isn’t great at all the charging set up currently without it being Tesla is a joke and you’re not getting any benefits that you couldn’t get from a literal $45,000 gasoline equivalent.
Such a rip off to pay double the price to get an electric vehicle just to save probably $50 a month on charging while getting far less range more hassle having to wait to charge and having to deal with the subpar charging system that isn’t Tesla’s
Kia will have an adapter to charge on Tesla's supercharger network soon.
Just like most Chinese models, Kia built with flashy visual features compares to Tesla's advanced technologies. Simply no comparison.
What flashy visual features like actual fast charging, not just a high peak rate designed to sucker customers into thinking it has a charge rate from 2024 not 2020....The EV9 charges alomt 50% faster 10%-80% than a Model X and 90% faster than the model Y. Or Tesla advanced 360 degree view parking, or auto sensing wipers...
