The BBC decision to sack Lineker was overturned by VAR
đđ
No unfortunately it was overturned by the spineless BBC!
@@frasersutherland6837 correct.
Please accept my apologies for my pathetic attempt at humour.
I now realise that the utterances of an ex footballer and crisp seller are of national importance and not to be trivialised.
I hope Mr Linekerâs brief comments havenât left you too traumatised and I wish you a speedy recovery.
@Mark Blair At least we know what camp your in!đ€Ł
â@@frasersutherland6837 And we've noted where you are
Pretty sure Simon hates Martin đ
Definitely donât like each other
Yeah, Simon has a pretty toxic attitude towards Martin, he looks to snipe at everything he says at any opportunity.
@@killorfill6953 definitely! Sometimes I think he just argues for the sake of it aswel as its the norm
Yeah cause Martin is a top bloke at Simon is a twat
Simon hates everyone who isnât naive enough to believe everything he says. His logic is good but not always correct.
At least we now know whoâs running the BBC and itâs not Tim Davie!
He is reinstated because of massive public opinion in his support. The people who pay for the BBC (the Public) apparently run the BBC after all, despite the Tory Party's attempts to do so.
Exactly as it should be, don't you think?
The Conservative Party.
@@jujutrini8412 they couldnât run a bath. The leftist TV luvies are in charge here. They couldnât even get rid of someone that they wanted to. Theyâre pathetic.

Well itâs still the Tories but it should be the people. License fee and all
"sack the lot of em".. Simon backed away from that one faster than VAR decision..
Sack them ...there rubbish đ
It's ridiculous
MOTD was always better with Des as host ; )
The irony of Jim calling anyone a sidekick..
Hahah he is the main presenter and sits in the middle and still just a sidekick hahah
Martin is trying to copy Gary the woke Lineker.
Freelance = Tax dodger
Martin really is thick as mud..Linekar has not been muzzled or had his free speech compromised...if he had he would of been kicked off Twitter...doh!
@@RonaldoCarbone what does woke mean for you?
Martin and Simon absolutely hate each other. I can't stop noticing how Martin always says Jim's name while he's talking, trying to childishly make it obvious he doesn't like Simon.
I don't think it's childish. Just a clear indication of what he thinks about Simon: that he is not worth addressing.
I have to agree - sometimes he is such an idiot and clearly in love with the sound of his own voice.
theyâve been taking shots at each other for ages, Martin went in on Simon for being a failed owner again recently and Simon retorted that Martin isnât an invincible because he only played a couple of the games, kinda petty and childish but itâs about as exciting as youâll get from Keown
@dis kid Yeah that's an ongoing theme for them, makes for good viewing though so let them crack on haha. I actually think the only other presenters in that chair that Simon has time for are Pearce and Murphy.
@Rene Roo I'm a big Simon fan and think this show is nothing without him. However, if I was in the room arguing with him personally, my opinion may change! I can see how he'd get under your skin, clever bloke really.
â@@antmax696 I find that Murphy tends to agree or prefers not to get into a clash of minds with Simon. Whereas Martin almost always stands his ground. Simon in both cases 95% has the most convincing arguments which makes them both look a bit stupid, not that Simon is right 95% of the time.
Martin and Simon donât particularly like each other đ
You think??? wow! you are astute!đ€Łđđ đđ
If it wasn't for players, he would have been capable of running a football club.
It's all their fault that Simon messed up.
Simon Jordan was so forthright last week as how Lineker had breached his contract. Now he caveats with ifs and buts. Nothing wrong with changing your mind so long as youâre not a mug about it.
Well said
This. Sometimes Simon should just own it when he's in the wrong, but he loves trying to weasel out with a " I was mostly right" attitude.
Loved seeing his flustered, red, Tory face all rattled. Brightened up my evening
Simon is a hater
yep suddenly moderated his outrage as soon as heâs reinstated!!! .. the guy has an opinion about every subject known to man and always acts like heâs right!! heâs an obnoxious arrogant misinformed and usually wrong spoon.. đ
Martin is going to put Simon through the barbershop window one of these days.
I'd pay to see it, talks like he's a hard man but you can guarantee Simon would be straight on the blower to the police if he ever got in a physical altercation
Wouldnât blame Martin for doing it one bit.
Yeah I could see Martin thinking âIâll fold you in half you speccy mugâ
Nice rockers reference, but surely keown is marty janetty in this instance đ€Ł
Simon is a know all smartarse still exhibiting a touch of bitterness which he deflects on to Martin.
I sense bitterness towards footballers, very interesting , itâs clouding his judgement and he ends up searching for ways to defend his position.
It's not just footballers. There is an inherent snobbery and condescending element to the establishment. If you are not considered part of the cognoscenti, then your view is considered irrelevant.
It seems, from the little I know (too lazy to search ) . going by his use of words . That he likes to exploit situations and people , comes across as a bit of a user !

Bitterness towards footballers? Let me tell you something Mark, I've been around a long time, and I LOVE football, but I HATE footballers. Hate them. Lying, cheating, bullying, arrogant, petulant, snidey trash the lot of 'em. Not an honest man amongst them. I've yet to see Simon Jordan lie. I don't particularly like him, or dislike him, but I've yet to see him be anything but honest. As for Lineker, you know what the worst swear word is, the 'c' one. That's what he is.
Question to Martin Keown. When Matt Le Tissier , Phil Thompson, Tony Cottee was sacked by Sky. Did Ian Wright support them?
Well as Wrighty wasn't on Sky probably not don't think that Shearer supported them either. Both are often employed by BBC. Why didn't any of the Sky presenters support them?
â@@kashgraham6453why were they sacked? Were they guaranteed a job for life?
@@philwill0123 Don't think that Sky sacked them, just didn't renew their contracts, am thinking that they wanted to change the line up. I didn't like that Charlie Nicholas was let go but that's life
I'm a Newcastle fan, but if Shearer, Wright, Lineker etc are the best at what they do then football punditry is at a very low ebb.
Lineker is a very good sports presenter. That's just a fact.
@@aaroningl Perhaps, but only if you're a fan of inane banter and an air of smarmy arrogance and narcissism. Every pot has a lid so good for you if you're into that. The truth is that he can only see things from a perspective of his own football career or passions i.e. Leicester, which is where the narcissism etc comes in.
@@MatchesMalone1183 qhat a straaange comment. You clearly have no idea what 'narcissism' is, Kevin.
While not completely relevant, Clarkson said lots of things the BBC didn't like and it was only when there was a physical altercation that they got the excuse to dismiss him.

1. The BBC already warned Lineker so he knew his views were at the very least unwelcome, yet he continued to post on Twitter. Shows how much he values the BBC.
2. The BBC didn't think to make the necessary stipulation when his contact was renewed and he agreed a 400k pay reduction.
Do away with both Lineker and the BBC. The level of punditry is dismal and the licence fee and how the BBC chase the fee are inexcusable.
Dumbest comment so get rid of Lineker a man that's been payed the biggest wage at the bbc for seven years now....with only Zoe ball coming close to his yearly wage erm maybe just maybe because he's doing a great job and that's why BT sport was paying him the best money aswell or Spanish La liga TV he's box office for any employer
The bbc canât warn him to do anything thatâs not in his contract, which it wasnât, hence why he came back. Mad you people still cling to that notion when it was proved not to be the case
I like and respect some of Jordan's opinions, but my gosh there's a bitterness eating away at him. Envy towards Lineker's popularity and reach, anger towards Martin for having had a successful football career and massive regret around how his own club ownership ended up. It bubbles away just beneath the surface like Gollum's lust for the ring.

Simon is absolutely right. Notwithstanding his freelance status, Lineker has brought the BBC policy of impartiality into disrepute given his influence and status as a presenter. Pundits like Shearer and Wright are average at best and Simon is correct that a new generation at lower salaries would be better.
Lineker is not as popular as the BBC think he is.
I want my license fee back
Martins hatred for Simon is one of the reasons why this show is the greatest on the radio.
Simon Jordan doesn't have a problem with the BBC taking direct orders from the Tories? Where's the impartiality in that?
Where was the solidarity when sky fired three legends in Nicholas Thompson and LeTissier

Simon changes his mind like the wind!
Well, with regards to this issue, he hasn't changed his mind.

Doesn't know if he's Martha or Arthur as he would say
How did he change his mind??? He said if it was in the contract then gary was wrong. If it wasn't then gary was right... The same thing he said on friday
He did, he seemed sure Gary shouldnât have said something and assumed he wasnât allowed.
Lineker cant tell the difference between refugees and economic migrants
Or he doesnât want to
"You have freedom of speech, you just don't have freedom from consequences." Joseph Stalin
Idi Amin "âThere is freedom of speech, but I cannot guarantee freedom after speech." but I dont think Stalin would have said anything like that, thats for sure haha, more like "there is no freedom to speak (or think) other than the way we say.....And your freedom is to go to gulag for others consequences"
đŻ
The irony of Simon lecturing Keown and Lineker for tax breaks for being freelance. Thats their choice being freelance comes with its disadvantages like you may not get work, But everyone in this chat would try pay as little tax as possible if they could and no doubt Simon Jordan has taken tax breaks before.
It's also just not why they do it. They need to be able to work for multiple platforms because they wouldn't get enough work from just the BBC. Same for journalists. Suits everyone. Simon always just sees the money. Well, not as much as he used to.
I see no surprise at all that linekar is back. His views are absolutely in line with the BBCs. Now, had he said the government is right to stop all illegal migration, and illegal migration was detrimental to the UK then I would have expected the BBC to ask him to retract his remarks or leave as his views did not reflect the values of the BBC.
They made this into an argument about free speech to distract from the issues being argued over, an argument Linekar and the profiteers he carries water for were in the process of taking a massive L over (public backlash on social media/huge tv rating for Linekar-less MOTD), such a slime move, sorry but some of us look up from our food now and see the games
I wish there was someone at the BBC who would go on twitter and say something as extreme from the other side of the spectrum. They would be blackballed from all media.
@@kevinb9830 Well exactly, the BBC has their own prescribed truth, they've been steering public opinion through the thin layer of entertainment since their inception, the idea that they're impartial is hilarious, it's always been a propaganda mouthpiece, Alf Garnett anyone?

I thought that Simon Jordan was a free speech absolutist? Against cancel culture?
One would think that Gary Lineker knows what is in his contract. Simon Jordan is giving an opinion based on speculation about how the BBC rules on impartiality applies in this case. He does not know! Nor does he know what's in the contract of Gary's colleagues.
Gary Lineker was de-platformed because he described the LANGUAGE used around the debate on immigration policy as reminiscent of the LANGUAGE during the 1930s in Germany leading up to the slaughter of 6 million Jews plus 5 million others.
A holocaust survivor called June Slater admonished the British Home Secretary for doing exactly the same thing.
Gary's comments were made on Twitter, not in his role at the BBC. He did not call out anyone in particular nor did he reference any political party. But the language he is referring to is pedalled by the Conservative Home Secretary (1 million migrants are coming). Whoever the cap fits?
While working for the BBC, Alan Sugar (failed football club owner like Simon) and Andrew Neil (avowed Tory supporter) have made countless nakedly critical political remarks concerning public sector workers striking for better pay and about Jeremy Corbyn promoting social justice when he was the Labour leader. Google it - not difficult to find.
What a cheap shot at Ian Wright.
Simon criticised Marcus Rashford for standing up for poor people by campaigning for free school meals.
Simon criticised footballers for taking the knee
Now Lineker for using his voice for something good!
Can you spot the pattern?
- He has no respect for Footballers (current and ex).
-They should stay in their corner and remain silent on matters of conscience.
- They must not use the platformed made from sporting achievement to campaign against perceived government / social injustice.
- They should Just shut up and make their money.
Except if you are Alan Sugar, Andrew Neil and Simon Jordan - speak out on all manner of things.
Why does everyone let simon jordan talk over them. He always tries to behave like the most intelligent person in room. Martin needs to fight back more!

Hands up who thinks, like a lot of us, that Pundits are overpaid and a complete waste of space.

I am surprised that Keown did not have a Solicitor sitting next to him, as he was answering the questions :0)
Then start your own podcast or watch a independent... so it's all your fault that they are overpaid
The biggest problem is the ludicrous amount of coverage this story has had, giving Lineker's ivory tower opinions a level of credence they are completely unworthy and deserving of.
Mr Jordan's analogy regarding the verbal insulting of a police officer, was stupid. The concept of being arrested for saying words is a direct contraction of freedom of speech. How is it free speech if the consequence of your saying them is the removal of your freedom?
This 'freedom of speech, but not freedom from consequence' is a self-serving caveat people often try to impose in order to undermine free speech, designed in order to retain their imagined right to shut down things they wish not to hear.
The price of genuine freedom of speech, is that people are allowed to insult you as much as they like, and it is a price you would be foolish not to pay.
He works for the BBC but they can't control what he says outside of his job! If my manager tried to do that to me I'd tell him where to stick it, so why should Gary?

I'm now going to have to crack the box set out now you've mentioned Only Fools! Cheers Dave!
I see him as more of a Boycie tbh. Or maybe Freddie The Frog.
that's a good comparison...he sucks up to his employers/woke culture every chance he gets. whichever way the wind blows is the stance he'll quickly rush to adopt. i can't understand the praise he attracts from so many - for me he's the epitome of a snake oil salesman
I like Simon Jordans honesty đ
I'm sure that by supporting Winston Churchill's position on the EUCHR, Gary Lineker wasn't bringing the BBC into disrepute - far from it. By NOT opposing the government's attempts to break international law (mainly framed by the UK) the BBC's editorial position and by extension the Director General are bringing the BBC into disrepute.
Lineker is not an employee of BBC.He is a freelancer like Lord Sugar (who actively campaigned for the Conservative party while on The Apprentice), Michel Portillo (who expressed his views on British Rail privatization while making Great Continental Railway Journeys) and others. Nothing happened to them. And nothing happened to Lineker when he said "bin Corbyn". Because the BBC impartiality condition only applies to employees of BBC. What a bunch of hypocrites! The Conservatives realized quickly that Lineker was a greater threat to them than Starmer! What a bunch of clowns.
They are the best at what they do, that's funny
Simon for PM
Simon Jordan - the only person at Talk Sport who isn't a Liberal mouthpiece.
What is builders warehouse?
I donât care what Gary says but I do really⊠đ
Simon, the BBC guidelines specifically make a distinction between Political commentators and Sports commentators in the example they cite in their guidelines.
Yep, I think Simon did the whole"he's bound by a clause thing". Now it seems he wasn't , and Simon's trying to justify his earlier position.
If that is the case he should never have been suspended at all. BBC making there own mess lol
While I agree with what Simon says regarding the disposal of the lemmings such as Shearer, Wright etc. It then turns into a vicious circle, if they don't get their jobs back I'm pretty sure Lineker would support them until they do. Let's not forget, the focus here is Lineker and the potential damage that would ensue as a result of his dismissal
I still can't believe people pay for this service its staggering.
With so much sagacity and intelligence it's a mystery Simon was owner of a club for one year only.
He didn't have the courage of his conviction.
redshift It's simple really, he was crap!!! PMSL
What?
He is a pompous little man.
2000-2010
Completely missing the point, a government didn't like what someone said so then pressured an institution to sanction an individual .....utterly deplorable behaviour by the government ffs đđđ
Freedom of speech does mean freedom from consequence from the state. In other words, we do not have it in this country.
I repeat, we do not have freedom of speech in the UK. Look how many people were prosecuted over TWEETS 3000 or more.
All those football pundits who supported Gary Lineker, like Ian Wright, Alan Shearer among others were former England players and teammates
Jim loves the drama đ
8:30 âI donât care what you think, itâs my opinion.â Perfect.
Thatâs the reply of someone who canât argue their point very well.
Simon = top LAD proper clobber
Sorry, did Martin say 'they're the best at what they do?' LOL. What, give their opinion on football?
I don't agree with Lineker's opinion.
However, I don't think he should have been done for giving that opinion.
How about we just cancel the BBC license fee? I don't pay it anyways, but it's ridiculous that I keep getting letters sent to me threatening to have someone come over. The BBC should be a subscription service for people to pay for if they wish. The reason they don't do it is because not enough people care about the BBC and wouldn't pay a dime.
Gammon.
@@philip013 if I'm a gammon for not wanting to pay the license fee then sure. I don't care.
No love lost between Jordan and keown!!!
Charlie Boy Vespa Well spotted, you are obviously a Geniearse!đđđ đ€ŁđđđLMFAO!
Iâm not buying the argument that his co-presenters (and Keown) are defending him on free speech grounds. They are defending him because they agree with what he said. If he expressed a political opinion they disagreed with, they would probably be demanding he be sacked. đđđđ
Itâs not a freedom of speech issue, purely to do with his contract with the BBC , if he worked for Sky and tweeted political messages ( Gary Neville) there would be no problem and no story. However⊠quick thought experiment⊠had he tweeted support for the immigration policy and likened it favourably to 1930s German rhetoric⊠would he be returning to his job, would his chums have lined up to support him, would Labour be defending his right to speak freely? I think we all know the answer⊠freedom of speech isnât just reserved for speech you agree with
Simon looked as though he was going to puke at the last line of linekers response đ€ź
I did
