whycreate thank you. I love Oberyn
Oberyn Martell was only in the show for a few episodes until his untimely exit; I had the pleasure of seeing him leap off the pages as he twirled around and fucked Kings Landing inside out in the books, too. He made the biggest impact imho of any character in the series with the time he was alotted to shine. I'm not alone either.
I'd love some Red Vyper short stories or a novella after..... AFTER the main series is finished ples
The Fact Oberyn Martell studied at the Citadel and managed to achieve a few links to a maesters chain and then leaving cause he got bored is one helluva flex tbh
yeah, right, that's like going to graduate school, getting halfway through your doctoral thesis while maintaining a 4.0 gpa, and then saying "meh, this is lame" and fucking off to backpack around Europe and bang chicks for a few years by today's standards
Jimbo Slice 🤣
Oberyn just wanted to study, so when he got what he wanted, he just left without taking any wow.
@@JimRFF but not Europe, Asia, with is much more bigger and hard than Europe
💯
He would have easily killed The Mountain if he wasn't so obsessed with getting him to admit his brutality.
The mountain technically did die. He had him on his back and the poison had already taken effect. The mountain basically used the last of his strength to do what he did.
If oberyn had just left him there, that would have been the end of it. But of course, that wouldn't satisfy GRR Martin.
The mountain was a walking corpse afterwards because of qyburn's necromancy.
but to be fair, *killing* the Mountain wasn't really his goal... he wanted to force him to publicly admit to the crime of raping and killing Elia and killing her children, which he did because Clegane was angry and just kinda dumb... when he admitted to that *during the trial by combat* it made it impossible for Tywin to deny it as a baseless rumor, which put a huge stain on the Lannister name in the public eye after that moment
Shaderunner if he didn’t get close, he would’ve won instead he just yelled and stood in front of Gregory hands.
Naw Say dude no one knew how dangerous it was standing near him till that happend, i honestly never thought of it and am sure no one did. Even oberyn himself diddnt knowlol
atiq aly oberyn didnt know because he didnt think of it, his focus was avenge elia martell, the others knew, especially cersei, they just didnt want to respond because oberyn was focused, they knew gregory would just get up and kill oberyn after.
Oberyns duel with Gregor was better than season 8
Except for the end.
diarrhea is better than season 8
I honestly thought he would win lol then he got his head opened
@@truevizgaming opened is putting it loosely haha
That was such an AWESOME scene...
"You stole her future!!!!!" Lol
And after he lost his duel with mountain he was teleported to the future and become a bounty hunter who never takes his helmet off. Lesson learned the hard way.
I think he wore a helmet in the books but without too much face cover
@@Nina9835 he said it as a joke since oberyn and the mandalorian are played by the same actor
Isn't he become undercover agent and hunts the cartel?
@@androidynamit He depicts Javier Pena in Narcos *Colombia* a former special agent in the DEA-wasn't undercover-tasked with helping catch Escobar
@@Nina9835 In the books he had an extremely badass helmet-which they even made for the TV show yet for some unexplainable reason didn't use it... That's seriously one of my biggest gripes with this fuckin show, having virtually every single main character not wearing armor (or the shit they'd wear UNDER plate armor ffs) and only having nameless random soldiers wearing fucking helmets.... It's like watching these people go into battle completely naked it's mind boggling 😒
I think they casted him perfectly, one of my favorite characters and I’m still disappointed that they killed him off.
As my favorite character too
I remember watching the scene on the show with my friend who hadn't read the books, he was absolutely certain Oberyn was going to win and be a main staple in the GoT world. I didn't have the heart to warn him what was going to happen.
Is he dead in the books?
@@Archonsx yes unfortunately
Richella River how’d he react?
I liked the shows actor. Perhaps not what we imagened, but he had a lot of charisma
Pedro Pascal
@@thembinkosimgidi8465Not to be a fucker, but I don't think the Dornish are supposed to be that dark skinned. They are modeled after the Spanish which in most area's are a slight bit lighter to very lighter than what is shown on the show.
@@Uthandol honestly i was happy they casted a latino at all
@@jvillanueva2978I think a Spanish actor would be a better representation of the books Dorns. Dorn is the fantasy equivalent of Spain. But honestly. The actor was pretty awesome in this roll so its a wash:D.
Turk Turkelton the Martells are ethnically mixed. They’re part Rhoynish
Man the show really ruined the Dornish plot. Such a good group of characters wasted.
The him good though
Oh I know it! I wonder if we will get to see more of Dorne in the prequel.
I could not agree more. The entire Dornish plot was almost laughable. Jaime and Bronn sneaking in wearing disguises was almost “3 stooges” type of material. It would have been better if the dialogue wasn’t so over the top and ridiculous. The Sand Snakes in particular. Obarra was the worst.
The thing that made me sick over it was how they tried to make a political statement with the Dornish plot. They took it and twisted it into a feminist pile of crap. Ellaria and her daughter killing Duran was ridiculous. “Weak men will never rule Dorne again”. 🤦🏻♀️😂😂😂
The Dornish plot was a failure. One of the most beautiful sets in the show was ruined by the God awful writing. D&D did what they do best....take a masterpiece, shit on it, and call it “art”.
@@laurenquinn877 Feminist? For start you are using the word wrong, and second it was actually very sexist what D & D have done to the female dornish of the show. Instead of giving depth and interesting characters they just blow up them as this psyco hembrist group, far away of the depiction in the books.
It's accordance to the book
I think it sounds like Oberon was a good father, picking up his bastards, caring for them and making sure they can all defend themselves in a scary world.
True. Granted, he should've not slept with that guy's wife but, other than that, caring for his Bastards is definitely a big plus
Watching the mountain kill oberynn will always be painful
I knew GOT was violent but the way Oberyn died really left me shaking. I've rewatched the series but I always skip the part where Oberyn's head gets crushed lmao.

Omg most played out comment ever. Why does everyone say this?
One of my favorite characters, it shocked me when his head was caved in. Unforgettable scene. I would've liked for him to have finished off the Mountain but hey they can't all be happy endings..
Give Oberyn a spin-off story you can have certain characters appear in it like Daario (Oberyn fights alongside him in the fighting pits), Melisandre (Oberyn sleeps with her during his travels), and The Grand Maester.
And get the original Daario actor
@@HollohonDefinitely he was great...In this series We would also see Aereo Hotah (Doran's bodyguard) in action and it would also be great if we see Syrio Forel train Oberyn in water dancing (During his fight with the mountain his footwork mirrored that of a Bravosi Water dancer).
He does? With Melisandre? Did he know about her age lol
@@CXY96 It would be hilarious if he never knows. But then again given the fact that he knows some form of magic I think he would realize at the last minute.
Bro the Mandolorian
He didn't need to die 😭 One of the best fighters in Westeros with his own nickname dies because of his cockiness. A wasted character, but that's Game Of Thrones, no happy endings and that's why its special and amazing.

Michael Nyamute Jr. 😂😂😂true
He’s played two of my favorite characters in the last few years and I love it. This is the way
Pedro Pascal did a great job as a The Red Viper. Sad that in the end his cockiness paved the way for The Mountain to become invincible. He wanted revenge so badly that he allowed it cloud his judgement...which led to the man he despised being turned into a literal walking monster of a killing machine.
But putting the man who caused him so much emotional pain in sooooo much physical pain was almost worth it
Kelley Condon
Not really. He lived for his paramour, Ellaria, and his children.
How could wounding the mountain ever be worth forfeiting a life with them.
I didn't say it WAS worth it, and there was no way for him to know what qyburn had in store afterward so that wouldn't have mattered to him but there was noooo way he wasn't prepared to die the second he got the chance to avenge his sister and her children and die happy at that as long as he only touched him once with his deadly vipers tooth or else I feel like he would have gone another route like how he secretly poisoned tywin lannister... or at least if you choose to buy into that chain of thought, due to the state of his corpses rapid decomposition, I do think he did, anyway I definitely see where your coming from though
Kelley Condon
I see your point. I truly do. The thing I was building my point off of was one single thing that I remember vividly.....when the trial by combat began Tyrion scolded Oberynn for drinking wine right before he fought the mountain....and Oberynn’s reply was “today is not the day I die” followed by a smirk and a laugh. Oberynn was willing to lay his life down....but because he never thought for a single second that he would, or even could, fail....he failed.
Oberynn was cocky. Oberynn knew that he would beat the mountain.....and he did beat the mountain. The only single mistake Oberynn made was underestimating the Mountain’s strength and his lack of a soul. The mountain was truly horrible. One single momentary lapse in judgement cost Oberynn his life. Oberynn died believing he had killed the mountain. In fact the mountain did die....unfortunately he was brought back by the vile and wretched intelligence of Qyburn.
The cockiness that got Oberynn so far in life and paved the way for him to become an amazingly skilled fighter is in the end what killed him.
I’m sorry if I sounded rude in my last reply. It was not meaning to sound rude. I completely agree with your statement though. He would have gladly given his life in exchange for that justice.....he just truly never thought he would actually end up doing so. That was his only downfall. You are most definitely correct about his passion for revenge.
I'm gonna be that guy, his corpse walking around and doing things isn't the same as him doing those things. Oberyn got his revenge, the mountain died and more than likely is just a corpse that someone found an interesting use for.
"I was the Grass that hid The Snake." ~ Doran Martell
Very cool line.
Oberyn being the only guy from Dorne that was interesting just goes to show how much more of Dorne we need from GRRM
His brother and daughters are pretty dope, the show just kinda fucked off with Dorne.
Love how they call Oberyn hot head man waited 17 yrs to revenge his sister death also I hope young griff was know by Doran that be awesome to read in next book
This, this!!
He didn’t need a confession, he just need to take the mountain out quickly and idk if it happened like that in the books but it was super disappointing and dissatisfying the way it happened in the show, yeah later we get cleganebowl but it was pure shit....
Shiri Guessman it was same in the book Oberyn it went out the same way even Mountain dying by the poison and return as a zombie, Clegenebowl we got was a MK fight in real life
Shiri Guessman yea I agree. They didn’t need to kill him off that quickly n in that dumb way
Bro the way he died bothers me so much he was such a badass
The guy who played him in the series did an amazing job.
Nice to see a familiar face
Oberyn is so awesome, and he was one of my favourites in _A Storm of Swords_ for the short time he was there.
I read the Daenerys chapters many times, of course, and I read all the scenes with _The Second Sons_ outside Yunkai in _A Storm of Swords_ to see if they vaguely mention Oberyn. No one mentions Oberyn to Daenerys, and Brown Ben Plum in _A Dance with Dragons_ doesn't mention him to Tyrion. It is so cool that Tyrion fights alongside _The Second Sons_ after leaving Westeros because of serious issues, as did his champion, Oberyn.

Oberyn was one of my favs. Woulda been cool to see him fight in the Great War
Man I can't ever go back and watch the fight between obery and the mountain. Not because it was bad, infact it was an excellent fight scene! I just can't bare watching oberyn getting killed. Pedro Pascal played that role just perfectly!!

Mood
I loved his actor, so glad he got to be the mandalorian!!
Such an amazing character. I'm still devastated when I rewatch the trial. Honestly though it's probably a good thing that the character dies in the books and show before they ran out of writing material. D&D would have just fucking ruined him anyway. The best character in the entire series imho.
Well... now he's the red puddle. :(
When you look at the ripple effect Oberyns death had on the Lannister family, you’ll feel more at peace. Tywin doesn’t get killed by Tyrion in the halls if Oberyn won, that’s just a start. The Mountain was also poisoned by him that eventually killed him but he got brought back to an undead state, + even more. Justice was served for Elia after Oberyn died.
We appreciate you, Red Viper. 🐍❤️
Easily my favorite character. What a legend
Ever since your said you were making this video at the end of your “how Robert became the known as the demon” video I’ve been hype!!
Everything Oberyn Martell did in the books and show was awesome.....except dying of course
"A man that sleeps around this much would only have daughters." What did you mean by this?
It's a quote from the books. Also I guess it's ironic that a man who sleeps around and uses woman for sex would have lots of daughters 🤔😂
In the US at least it’s thought that men that have a lot of woman partners, treat woman “badly”, are very masculine, think less of woman, etc tend to have daughters. Sort of like a punishment; these daughters then end up changing the mans views on woman and become the mans world.
There is another theory I heard where if a man saves his semen for a while and then has sex, he will get a son. Else he gets a daughter.
@@DarkmanXSincere wtf? Dude. Dont say that about US. Maybe in your town but not all

There needs to be more prequels more then the five shows spinoffs. We need other more prequels like trilogy and standalone movies.
Not if it’s the same writing quality as season 8
yeah I mean long night is probably the most boring part imho. Just take a look at that new Fire & Blood book. There is so much good stuf in it albeit some more fit for a movie rather then a show. Or if you wanted something we know less about just do Valyria or something. Long night is mostly what the main show seemed to be about and Im not sure people want more of it and certainly not after what happened to it in season 8.
@@FIN791998 D&D is done with the series. They moved to the finale of star wars trilogy to ruin that series. They pick new writing crew. They always pick new writers and replace the old ones.
@@Brandonhayhew They are and its a good thing. Just saying that making prequel for something that had arguably the most hated conclusion in s8 is a bad idea in general and makes people lose interest no matter who writes it.
If you look at some coments from chanels that made rescently a video about the prequel you can see there so many people that just wont watch any HBO ASOIAF prequel silmply because of D&D writing.

Oberyn is the TRUE hero of ASOiaF!! He’s the man who had the strength to break the wheel, but his one tragic flaw was his arrogance and lust for vengeance.
twas his harmatia
His death still haunts every time i think of it
Only just stumbled upon your channel, this being the first vid I saw. It is well executed and informative. Especially with all the name throwing. Not being too familiar with the books or show myself, I can get lost in all those names quickly. Having the visual aids in place and used properly is a big plus.
Minor problem I feel is you're holding back your vocals. Dare speak and pronunciate. You have good voice.
I wish the red viper would get a spin off that would be a wonderful series

Great job on this post. And thanks for sharing. Stay safe. 🎸
Oberyn actually needed the Mountain to confess in front of everyone so that Dorne could go to war with the Lannisters... I'm not sure what you mean by saying there wasn't any point to it... Sure, everyone knows, but until there is a confession it's hearsay. You kinda dropped the ball on that part. Especially since I feel like it's explicitly explained in the books. (maybe not, it's been a long time)
Olenna tyrell being savage in life and death
One of my favorites.:)
An Oberyn Martel show would be amazing
I feel like killing oberyn and Ned was honestly a bad idea
Inferno The last elemental why
grrm's whole point of writing aSoIaF is to bring a sense of realism to an entirely fantastical world (pardon the obvious juxtaposition), which he does masterfully, even from an objective standpoint. These incredibly fleshed out backstories are why his books take years and years, and the harmatia of certain characters: Ned's unwavering honour, Oberyn's lust for vengeance, etc. are what get them killed. Also, in real life, people die! Those with malicious intent DO triumph! I believe killing Ned the way he did was one of the most incredible things he could have done, it suddenly dawns on the reader that this is reality, metaphorically of course. That's why I believe killing Oberyn and Ned were great ideas.
I never read the books. But was so excited to see Oberyn fight the dirtbag Mountain. I was crushed when he lost. Could not believe it.
He was crushed when he lost too
Read. The. Books.
They are 100x better than the shows. I read the books, 2x, listened to the audiobooks, to and from work, 3x, and have fully watched the HBO series many times.

Honestly, I feel bad how he died before Tywin did. I'm sure he would have found it hilarious that he'd die on the privy and getting done in by Tyrion of all people.

Love this character ! I was truly shocked and disappointed when he died.
The reason why Oberyn was killed. He didn't make sure the enemy was dead.
Oberyn used manticore venom. The Mountain was dead no matter what.
He is a legit badass!
I took it as Oberyn having to be at home as Doran's first born son was still a small child and Trystane (the 2nd born) wasn't born until 5 or so years later. Simply put he was forced to be at home as a backup for the heir apparent, and if Doran who was sickly ended up dying, he would most likely have been forced to be regent until Quentyn was of age.
Dorans heir is not son daughter
Its a daughter.
@@susmitabasu1549 That is debatable at best. If we just go by the books, are someone really the heir apparent when no one knows about it?
I mean Doran's whole thing is that he is schemer, so how trustworthy is he really? If he was trustworthy he would have told Arianna about his plans earlier.
And yes originally wished for Arianne to wed Viserys, then he changed plans out of necessity, and sent Quentyn on his journey.
If he had informed either of the two kids about his plans then they would most likely hold a much stronger hook on the Lannisters, as well as not having the first born son be a fucking overcooked chicken.
Oberyn was probably running his Sell Sword Company in Essos at during the rebellion. Love me some Pedro Pascal ❤️
I was truly sad seeing him die in that duel. He, alongwith Finnick Odair (Hunger Games), has been my favorite character in any of the movie series that I've watched.
Tyene and Obara were very memorable
Magnificent work.
Oberyn Martell is a true Nietzschean character in the ASOIAF universe. Vicious yet principled. Knowledgeable yet grounded by living in the world. Confident and talented, yet self-aware as well as respectful and realistic about the talents of others.
This video also reminded me of how much the show sacrificed the complexity of the Dornish storyline and subsequently, so much plot potential. Doran was a shadow of himself in terms of his strategic mastery. Arianne was dropped completely. Areo Hotah's legendary combat skill was never showcased. It just sucks. The only good thing was indeed Pedro Pascal's masterful performance. If only they would have found a way for the Euron Greyjoy character to match that of Oberyn. Then at least I would have felt better about settling for the compromises in Dorne.
Pedro play the hell out of that Character!!!
Nice video
Have you watched it?
9:35 that is a real cool visual adaptation for Oberyn
he does has those Snake eyes but in a cool snake eyes fashion i mean

I think his father told him so and also I don't think Oberyn really minded. With his personality he likely wanted to do that anyway and 'exile' would give him the perfect excuse to see the world without dishonoring his family.
"We may find out in the next book"
George: Ha ha ha WHAT next book?
If oberyn wasn't cocky, the mountain could've died without becoming a zombie
Poison is not just a women's weapon. It's also used by dornish, masters, servnts, and plotting assassin's
Pedro Pascal won me over instantly with his most excellent portrayal of one of my favorite Game of Thrones characters. He was perfect. Perfect, I say!
So the dude was a genius also and still he let his emotions cloud his judgement and got his head crushed exactly like his sister. Making his confession moot and his death pointless and the mountain didn't even die well sort of.
