    As a lifelong mechanic and service specialist on boats and cars, I was always surprised how few women took to being experienced in auto or boat repair, but lately the tides have turned and Ive met lots of women in the field, who often are better techs or more meticulous than most of the guys I’ve known over the years, and the trend should continue, especially on CZcams with all the female racers, mechanics, and techs...Rachel you’re an inspiration to young women everywhere for your attention to detail and your great mind for products and services in multiple fields, Dan you must be one proud dad, cheers y’all your videos are excellent!

    I was raised on a farm and we operated most of the tractors Rachel works on. Today I'm a dentist and I certainly wish Rachel taught dental continuing education...I would certainly stay awake for that. She's so well trained and articulate. I can tell that her vocabulary is the language of tractor mechanics. I like all things mechanical from grandfather clocks to high power rockets and I love her tractor talk.

    When you replace the banjo bolt, first turn the loose bolt upside down and slip one of those sealing washers on it. Then insert the bolt through the fuel fitting. Then slip the other washer on and screw in the bolt. Makes it easier to keep up with your washers. It's also a great idea to lay a big white rag down on the head first to try to catch any dropped washers. They can hide real good.
    I also found that the plastic/nylon drain bolt in the bottom of the filter housing (my housing bottom is metal, not glass), can get stuck and impossible to remove without breaking. I actually had to drill mine out. But there is such a thing as a steel bolt for marine applications, which you will probably have to order from Europe. But it's worth it.

  • @ShainAndrews
    @ShainAndrews Před 5 lety +3

    Oh yeah, that injector is bjorked. Would have been nice to see/hear the start and run before the injector was pulled. Then again that is quite a bit of fuel to be dumping in. At some point you risk hydraulicing the cylinder. Nice to see you guys expanding your product offerings.

  • @ontheroadagain4773
    @ontheroadagain4773 Před 4 lety +1

    Here are two steps how to check the injectors without even removing them from the engine.
    These tests assume a rotary injection pump is used. If the engine has an inline pump then injector pump problems could give the same effect as a faulty injector.
    Assuming the engine will run:
    1. Disconnect the leakdown pipes and direct the injector leakdown into a clear plastic bottle per cylinder. Run for a few minutes and check how much fuel is in each bottle. If a bottle has nothing the valve may be stuck open. If there is much more than an egg cup full of fuel then the valve is leaking too much and would benefit from replacing. A quicker but messy alternative is just to run without the leakdown pipes and see how much fuel is discharged.
    2. With something to catch any fuel, try each injector in turn releasing the fuel pipe nut ½ a turn. If the engine note changes then the injector is at least doing something. If there is no change then the cylinder isn’t firing - if compression is ok then the injector is likely to be faulty.
    And this is a method to test them by using the engine's own injection pump:
    With the engine disabled from running (e.g. glowplugs out), remove injectors one at a time and reconnect to their fuel line with the nozzle into a clear plastic bottle. Take great care to keep well out of the spray and safety glasses are a good idea. Crank the engine and observe the spray through the bottle wall - it should be a uniform fine mist. Compare all cylinders - any injectors that look poor should be rebuilt.
    - Well, engines like this have no glow plugs, so you just have to release fuel pipes from all injectors.

    • @ontheroadagain4773
      @ontheroadagain4773 Před 4 lety

      There's also a method to test if the fault is in the pump: Change the place of the injectors! If you replace an injector that seems to be faulty with a sound one and test it again with the last method I mentioned. If it still doesn't work properly, the pump is the problem.

    I love these tutorial videos, but the one thing that really gets me is when people automatically think people know what there talking about when they use these profession words, like wet stacking, it's already a tutorial video, so that in itself means that most watching dont know how to do these things as it is much less the lingo with certain professions, if the point is to teach then teach like the ones watching no very little and it will be so much more educational and will inform a wide range of people

      @@agems56 not really, if your doing a tutorial video, using professional terms and not explaining what thise professional terms mean leave many wonder what that is, that's the point of a tutorial video is to teach step by step what the item your working on and why, why else watch it, good teachers understand that, that's why there teaching, they dont drop a 15 letter word and expect you to know what that is automatically, it's easy to forget your teaching and not to revert to pro lingo, if you knew what she was referring to great I didnt , that's why i watched it, cause I didnt know and still dont, what that one thing she said means

    This type of nozzle can be re worked to perform as when new by grinding the needle and nozzle base and lapping together. Also when stripping an injector it's best practice to undo the top cover and release the pressure first as this will allow deeper seating of the 2 delicate pins that locate the nozzle. Re set the pressure after re build probably 175 ats. Always make sure you fit the correct nozzle by checking the despatch numbers on the body of injector and the DLLA150S ... number on the nozzle. The last didgets are most important. Otherwise an informative video.

      A T, you sound like you've been there-done that. You brought back fond memories. In Vo-Tech we also lapped injectors and shimmed them up to specified breaking pressures. It really makes a difference in how the engine starts & performs. Also, it's amazing how many new ones come out of the box not atomizing. I ALWAYS check them. Not everyone has a test stand though.

    My Ford 4000 loses fuel prime if it sets for a week or so. Eventually I can get it going by repriming it, but it loses its prime after about an hour of operation. Then I have to start all over again. There seems to be air getting in somewhere because when I open the screw on the injector pump there is some air in the fule there and when I pump the reprime pump below the injector pump there is air there. Of course there is no fuel at the injectors on the head themselves until I get the air out of the system thru the button pump. Just before the engine quits it accelerates like it got a rick mixture or some more fuel and then it starts sputtering. Ideas?

    Do you have a video of rebuilding/repairing the injector pump?

    It’s called a nozzle not a tip. Just to clarify. You also don’t need to rebuild them under fuel like she did because all your going to do is get the dirty contaminants on the outside in the tub of fuel then into your injector

    I’ve been trying to find out if a Ford 3000 3-cyl. diesel has glow plugs. If so can you please tell me where they are and what they look like?
