    Singapore doesn't have the land area to conduct full-scale, combined arms, dynamic armor/artillery live-fire exercises, so the military has international agreements in place to conduct training (including live fire training) in other countries, including US, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Germany where in many cases the training area is larger than the whole of Singapore.
    I feel kind of bad for these cadets having these videos on the Internet. When they get their platoon command, they'll have troops under them who can watch these videos and think, "wow, my lieutenant was quite the screwup when he was a trainee"
    14:55 IIRC, I think we always indented a medic for field exercises. ("indent": chiefly a British term for official requisition)
    18:10 Singapore armor's live fire Exercise Panzer Strike in Germany is held at Bergen-Hohne NATO training area in Lower Saxony.
    24:50 I was told long ago that beneath that horizontal flap between the shoulder blades on the back of their coveralls (I think the flap is velcro secured) is a handle sewn in to their coveralls that can be used to haul an incapacitated crew member out of the turret when evacuating their tank
    26:23 I just noticed you used the term "tanker"; in Singapore, they use "tankee". I wonder if the Brits also use tankee

      Thanks for all of your insight!! I think some countries may have their tankers carry a small breathing device,which holds about 3-5 minutes of air in case of smoke or water. Or it may just be in the tank for them to grab in case of emergency. I’m not sure.

      Good question! I think you are right! I just googled and this came up: “In the UK Armed forces tank crews are generically referred to as “tankies”.

    The bridging raft is the German made M-3G, unique to the Singapore configuration - the cabin is armoured. It’s a strategic asset that allows bridging >100m gap and allow tanks to drive across, or as a raft to cover larger distances if the gap becomes impractical for a bridge.

    18:30, the 25mm BIS round is a sub-caliber attachment to the tank main gun for practice firing via 25mm instead of a full tank round due to range limitations.

    • @JustAnotherArmyVet
      @JustAnotherArmyVet  Před 7 měsíci

      Ahh okay. Makes sense. Thank you!! Are there any ranges in Singapore that can handle a full tank round?

    • @eatdriveplay
      @eatdriveplay Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@JustAnotherArmyVet yes, we have small ranges for tank live fire, but too small for fire-on-the move, only static firing positions.
      Why we still tanks being so small? Because we need a sizeable force to take any battle outside home ground - because we are too small to afford a battle to start at home. :)

    12:57 coupling is no joke... if any member is not in an alert state of mind, someone may lose a limb in the process... this place was my last duty station before my discharge (tho I'm not part of the rig crew)... embarrassing moment: I once fell into the water while disembarking a raft during a late night mission LOLLLLL 😂

    The Leopard 2A4 was bought by the army to replace the Amx 13 which has been in service since the 60s. The Leopard 2A4 was refurbished and upgraded to the 2SG variant.

    • @muhammadfahmi7159
      @muhammadfahmi7159 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@JustAnotherArmyVet The Amx 13 was bought in the 60s when the Singapore military was still in its infancy. It was the first tank which formed Singapore first tank battalion. As years passed, it was upgraded to the Amx 13 Sm1 Variant. After so many years, MINDEF (Ministry Of Defence) decided to replace it with the German tank. If me, I would prefer the British Challenger tank.

    its a Leopard 2A4, it can be identified from the top right of the turret there is a square cutout in the turret for the sights however the tank has been slightly modified to suit the SAF better compared to the standard Leopard 2A4.

    Officer cadet school. OCTs (officer cadet trainee) go through 9 months training and after they graduate they become 2nd lieutenant or above depending on their educational levels.

      What is the highest rank they can get commission at (depending on education)?

    • @piersonwong9282
      @piersonwong9282 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@JustAnotherArmyVet The highest you can attain within our two years of Nation Service is the rank of Lieutanant (LTA) which is equivalent to an O-2. To qualify for command school (OCS or Specialist School [Non-Com]) you must complete either Junior College or Polytechnic education prior to enlistment. Most cadets will commission as 2nd Lieutanant (2LT) and will be promoted to LTA after a year of service. Special cases are those with bachelor's degree who will commission as LTA (Usually female career officers who have finished their university education).

    the tanks they use are Leopard 2A4s, but the first one shown has the "Revolution" armor upgrade package:
    czcams.com/video/10_fhBI8YIA/video.html
    Greece also uses 183 Leopard 2A4s along with 170 Leopard 2A6 HEL, all of them to be upgraded to a higher standard in a 2 BN Euro program.
    The HEL version (for Hellenic) license built in Greece, has some changes specific to he Greek tanks ,like::
    A Greek hybrid APU, the Greek Wisper intercom system (later adopted by Germany for their tanks as well) and more importantly a raised gunners sight with reinforced armor behind it, relative to the older models.
    During turret destructive tests during the evaluation of the Leopard 2A6 by the Greek Army it was found that a hit on the Gunners sight would penetrate the turret.
    As a result the Greek Army requested from the German manufacturer KMW to redesign the turret by raising the gunners sight as much as possible and reinforce the armor behind it.
    This feature is now adopted to all the newer models of Leopard 2.
