I like how they took the time to code an alternate sunbeam interaction, but couldn’t put a simple line of code that deletes the timer when it reaches zero
At first I thought it was realistic, like you see in movies - it's 1 second late, 2 seconds late etc. "What's gone wrong?!"
But then does it just stay there...forever?

@@BumblebeeTuna23 well never exactly played subnautica and only watched it, but because the timer just goes below the zero mark it is suspicious, also someone else made a similar video proving it does not work as the gun can not be de activated before the sunbeam. Probably due to it being a key point in the storyline of subnautica so you are ment to se it

They didn’t know about it. This is only in there because the gun is deactivated so it wouldn’t be blown up. If it did come and land, it would defeat the point of the Neptune Escape Rocket.
@@TheSpy149 it’s just a game theory and also if you get to disable the gun so fast you might as well get to escape with the sunbeam cause you probably deserve it lol. Also the theory about sunbeam makes a lot of sense lol, alterra is a greedy company.

Well if you think about it, when you answer the radio and start the countdown is pretty close to when you just crash landed. By the time it takes for you to get the hatching enzymes and all that. The debris from the ship wouldve moved in orbit and become more of an issue. Thats the only logical way i can see it making sense.
@@I_DE1FY_I If the debris from the Aurora moved to block the Sunbeam, couldn't it eventually move back to clear out a path for them? But yeah, good point.
@@motocade1027 small satellites have made massive debree fields around earth, i can imagine a 1km + size ship doing the same
@@FlyLeah Yeah, I guess so. The Aurora would have made an enormous debris field, judging by the ending in the Neptune Escape Rocket when you can see the debris around the planet.

I like that they didn’t die but That was kinda hollow, like No emotion really about not being able to pick up someone who just lost everything
I mean they cannot properly detect how many survivor out there so... no emotion is pretty accurate.
Danwal not really given the fact that they knew at least one person survived the devastation, they could have had a tiny bit of sympathy for giving them hope of rescue
@@kagome1000o I think it also worth mentioning that they have no confirmation for this. they pobably have doubt any survivor at that point considering how hostile everything is, assuming they've researched the planet. they could be becon of some sort, but computer sometime glitch or bugged you know.

@@ariezon I actually tried what happened when you don't go to the landing site. Your PDA will tell you that the Sunbeam scans the Planet for any survivors. Then your PDA tells you that theres a large energy detection. And then... Boom.
So yeah, The Sunbeam doesn't know if anyone survived. They only know if you go to the landing site.
Damn I was expecting there to be some heroic moment where the sunbeam actually lands on the island, gives you a hand, you go in their ship and go back home. But sadly they just, don't come. And its a bit awkward. :/
Wouldn't be much of a game if you beat it so quickly. Granted, you would have to have beat the game properly once to be able to cure yourself before the sunbeams arrival. So maybe a quick rescue scene with a chance to return to previous save would've been cool.

It'd be nice if they did something like, "We can't get to you because of the debris field, but if you can get off planet somehow and you want to risk flying through the debris field we'll give you a ride to the nearest phasegate" and then you can have them smuggle you back to human space so you can find someone to root your PDA to wipe out your Alterra debt.

Being saved by the Sunbeam should have been a secondary ending! It would be so cool! If you worked so hard to play through the game once and almost completely twice, you deserve to get a secret "Saved by the Sunbeam" ending.
Tuna's the only one who can change the lore of the game completely
When the game was first fully completed this alternate ending did not happen, it still showed sunbeam comming down with the weapon mot moving but still making the normal sounds and a beam just fires where the pixels of the weapon should of been. Was pretty funny to trigger time to time.

So you know how Quinn says he’s never landed a ship this big on a planet this small, I think it would be way more interesting if he attempted a landing but crashed on the island, then you could salvage parts of the ship that you can use to build your escape rocket. Since you’ve already cured the disease it wouldn’t really break the game because you’ve seen and done everything, it would just be a slightly alternate ending that rewards you for trying to save the ship.
The devs REALLY wanted players to hear that final message from Alterra once they got off planet, LOL.

people. do you know the slightest thing about game development and/or how stories work?
Their would be effectively 0 point in making the sunbeam actually land. it would cost so much time and money for what is effectively an easter egg that roughly 4 people will actually do and the rest will just look up on youtube.
and 2, if the Sunbeam lands, the entire world and story that they have built would be destroyed. after the Sunbeam lands, several members of the ship would come in contact with the virus when enzyme 42 had only just been released. these people would not touch any enzyme 42, thus, spreading it among all of humanity, then to all creatures on all the planets that humanity have colonized, etc. it would wipe out the majority of the entire galaxies population.
What I wager is that shortly after the Aurora's crash, the debris is all pretty much in one spot where the crash happened, but over time the debris eventually floats outward and covers a wider area, creating a debris field. If you make the call like normal, the Sunbeam can land cause the debris is all still primarily around the crash site but if you call them later the debris covers a much wider area, making a safe landing impossible.
You see this same debris field in the game's ending.

All they would have to do is go in the ocean and get some enzyme 42. It’s not like he would knowingly let them leave without telling them what happened first. The captain of the sunbeam would 100% question him about what happened on the planet.
@@thatguy2142 they didn't even know that there was a bacterial infection going on. That's why the Aurora blew up in the first place. And by the time the protagonist even knew that he was infected, pretty much all of Aurora's survivor had died. And we know that the protagonist did all he can to find survivors. Even going to deeper more dangerous areas. Even if Sunbeam landed or not, 99% of the Aurora is still fucked
Knowing that alterra only cared about the energy signature, suggesting why they didnt save us, compared to the scenario where the Defense platform was still active, meaning there was an active energy signature and gave alterra a reason to land, I'm kinda glad they died.
Sunbeam isn't an Alterra ship
I think it just means that in this alternate universe the space area really is just too fuckered to land, but in the normal game it isnt.

Escape the planet, like how the rocket had to crash through some debris.
They must have changed that recently but I think originally, it used to revert to the normal way despite the cannon being disabled, they were going for shock and awe to shoot it down. They should have also dressed the normal, if you don't have the cure, sequence. To what idonno but something different. I guess they didn't figure people would attempted this despite making it possible to get the cure in roughly an hour and a half or just not use the radio. Ether change the normal sequence or force you to use the radio because this is 100% not tied to the story's chain of events. It seem that the only reason the radio is in the game is to get you out to explore and discover.
@GachaMarv what should I do after I find this place and the Sunbeam is blown up? I still don't have the Seamoth, trying to do that but idk what to do after
It would’ve been nice if this was the “good” ending. With you getting home without the debt. Instead of being able to activate the Sunbeam whenever you have a set number of days to do so before the Sunbeam loses interest from lack of communication. So that way it’s actually a bit of a challenge to do everything you need to do for them to arrive with being murdered.
I'm sure Alterra will still find a way to give you a huge amount of debt even after being rescued by the trade ship. Heck, they'll probably add rescue fees and surcharges to the bill that ends up costing more than building the escape rocket :D
I just played Subnautica for the first time and after leaving the lifelong, never returned and never built a radio. I went the entire game not knowing about the radio. I thought that icon that was appearing on the screen when I loaded my save was a loading icon, not a radio notification. I want to replay it and see all the story I missed.

you can still get those radio broadcasts on your main save :)
You can still get the radio signals as far as I'm aware. You don't even have to make a radio, you can use the radio at the life pod.

Yea, that was what would happen way back in Early Access. Due to the community requesting it, this alternate Sunbeam ending was implemented!
@@BumblebeeTuna23 I disabled the QEP before getting the radio message from sunbeam today and it still got shot down. Maybe it has to be done during the countdown to trigger this ending?

The sunbeam made it through the debris field in the version where they got shot down. The sunbeam should have made A landing since the only way to shut down the gun was to basically finish the game. It would have been A nice alt ending where you leave the planet in the sunbeam.
In this ending more time has passed since the crash allowing debris to orbit around and block their path
since the sunbeam is a trading ship they could of made it so if you save them you could trade information on species specific to the island for blueprints or materials that way theres atleast some sort of reward for saving them
How would they even know you saved them, they likely don't know about the QEP

So the debris field is a problem but in the original scene the sunbeam makes it through the debris field. Kinda dumb really
prefer this rather than the old way if people cured before the sunbeam. Before the sunbeam would still get shot even after "disabling the gun"

To save time and assets. If you entered the sunbeam you'd have to animate several npcs, and animate the sunbeam to open doors and stuff. Cheaper to record dialogue
@@blazeosirus5854 i am aware of this, i was just pointing out the logical failing in the reason given as to why the sunbeam doesnt come if you disable the gun. Maybe it could have tried to land but broke down or a leviatan attacks it or something.
@@raconbacon that would be a cool idea maybe as in the lore sea dragon leviathans come up to the surface to hunt so maybe as the sunbeams about to land a sea dragon jumps out the water and pulls it down into the sea and then in the distance you sea a fading light and then a a faint explosion from under the water
I saw this video, started a new game, and got the message saying Sunbeam would come get me, and I just watched it explode. If they ain’t goanna bother to save me I ain’t saving them.

To be honest, the sunbeam landing would've been a really cool alternate ending. Like you have two paths to chose, do it all quickly and you don't have to build the neptune or take your time and make your own ship. If you've already cured yourself, I don't see why skipping the ship building is that important of a gameplay step to keep.
I get what you are saying, and it makes total sense from a story perspective, but its clear the devs didn't expect people to even attempt this. They probably didn't want to go back code in entire new models, animations, and dialog just to cover what ultimately still is a niche case on second playthroughs.
Whenever I play, I always try to save The Sunbeam. No sense in this planet taking any more ships, right?

I think they could have done this a better way. Still have the Sunbeam come in but this time the debris causes trouble to one of their engines (like a bird through a plane engine) and it still explodes. Leaving enough time for a couple more lifepods to eject out of the Sunbeam clear opposite side of the map. And by the time you get there no survivors. Maybe a lifepod lands by the back of the Aurora where the reaper is and meets a grisly fate and another at the edge of the void or near the entrance to the lost river?

on my playtrough thats not possible because I went on a killing spree and kill every Leviathan, the only Leviathan that lives is some in the void, but I try to kill everyone in there but too many of them there I think they respawn in there.
I'm annoyed by the amount of people saying Sunbeam had bad intentions or whatever. This is just circumstantial storytelling. In multiple games, the option you choose can change the story, even past events. This is so there's no way in getting around an important plot point. For example, there HAS to be an obstacle stopping the Sunbeam, no matter what. The intended one is the laser blowing up the ship. But since there is a way to get rid of that obstacle, the alternative is putting another one in the way. There is now too much debris in space, because the previous obstacle was destroyed. Congratulations, you changed past events with present decisions.

Actually the original Sunbeam secondary ending was when it was starting to get close but it said that it centers picked up volcanic movement below the island and their ship was too heavy and they feared that it could cause a category six explosion and I couldn't land
Time is precious, it's very clear when the guy gets to the control pannel within only 1 minute of the arrival countdown.
That was a cheap way out. I would made them crash way off in the distance. He said he only ever tried this in VR one time and blew it, so that would have made sense and not complicated things too much lol
Side note hearing the warper as you were exiting the facility gave me anxiety 😂

It’s clever they thought this far ahead to add this little radio message in.
That’s the third ending for sunbeam but there are two others. The first one is the one everyone knows, go to the island and the ship gets shot down like normal. Although if you stay at the life pod, sun beam will go towards the pod scanning for survivors but then gets shot down by the enforcement platform.
I Wonder what would happend if you try to disable the gun while the event is happening will the gun still shoot down sunbeam or not ?

It’s actually fairly recent as the devs never intended for anyone to disable the gun first so what would happen is sunbeam would still be destroyed, but after seeing people disable the gun first they added this.

@@HolyCrusader5 It honestly makes me jump for joy that the Devs are still putting in effort into their first installment which I truly believe is Thee masterpiece that they created. I hopefully very much wish they would patch the horrible framerate drops that happens throughout the entire game, glitching/freezing from biome entering/exiting, vehicle entering/exiting, rendering issues; the game even now for my PS4 Pro for me I feel is not optimized or smooth running at all and it discourages me to play it more. It's not even like the graphics are close to realism at all, so the game to run smoothly at a solid 50 plus frames per second shouldn't be problem, and that is gracious to say that! Moreover!.....although I would possibly never go myself into the Void(I haven't myself yet), I would utterly love the Developers to consider officially establishing and including into the retail game the mod of the Gargantuan Leviathan and have they themselves include it into the game as a buyable DLC!...they could tweak and polish the model and movement even more for all of us console players, and maybe add in more tools, gadgets and machines/building structures the community has so geniusly imagined and created that fit so well into the game too!

I was trying to save the sun beam and it got down to the wire but i deactivated the gun a few minutes before the sunbeam got here, but it still blew up.
I also think that even tho the sunbeam was destroyed following the story normally, that sunbeam prolly is unmmaned, with the ones communicating in the other side of the radio is in the real sunbeam outside the planet

Every time I get near the sunbeam landing site my game just explodes, it pauses it and I can only play with a small screen in the bottom left and the rest of my screen just explodes.
here I thought the sunbeam would crash-land because the island was too small. Now I wish I had held off on using the radio.

The easiest way to get this message would probally be to not fix the radio until you reach the emperor then wait for the sunbeam message IF it comes.
After I approached that alien device, I got spooked by the first second and the machine said something about quarantine and that. So I looked around and tried to make that undone.
Unfortunately I stepped into a portal, wich brought me to an island Far away from the Tower. I expected to find something to deactivate the tower but Unfortunately again nothing.
5 minutes left I swam back to the island, wasn't even half there and the tower destroyed the Sunbeam.
That's a quick dumb fix of the glitch where the Sunbeam gets blown up anyway by the gun even though it has been disactivated.
