Bivvying Under a Rock on Kinder Scout
Vložit
- čas přidán 4. 10. 2022
- Bivvying is the simpest for of wild camping, it can be very basic making use of your natural suroundings and features to provide protection, but it allows you to camp in locations not usually accessible to tents.
Also some unexpected footage of the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue teams in action only 200m away.
Thanks for watching
What a pleasure to behold Patrick, your mountain videos must be without a shadow of doubt rank as the best on youtube, they show it the way it is, having spent many times up on Kinder in my younger years walking but never camping I do appreciate how quickly the weather can change, I just love to watch your videos, so entertaining , informative, interesting and relaxing to watch especially when having a few small Jack Daniels curled up in front of the fire, thanks again Patrick for a journey into the hills and mountains, thanks for sharing, Mike
Thank you Michael, lovely words there, and glad it brings back memories from when you were up there in your younger days.
As you can see it's not changed much, a little less peat, but just as wet and wild as it was in your day...... thanks Pat 👍
Burgers looked great 👍🏻
Snap. 👍🏻
Couldn’t have said it any better !
Another cracking video, Pat. Thanks so much for spending the time to record and edit your adventures and put them here for us all. So well done, every time. You're looking fit as a fiddle too. All the best, Joe.
Thanks Joe, feeling good at moment, trying to build up fitness for forth coming winter camps....... thanks Pat
Where the feck you been
Great Stuff Patrick, great video, love your content, thank you mate
My pleasure Rob..... all the best Pat
Probably one of the best creators on CZcams, your determination and resolve is inspirational. So glad that you were rewarded with some stunningly scenic shots. Most people would probably have abandoned the morning footage but no, we're treated to scenes of you nearly being blown off the hill. Great audio btw, absolutely love your work, thanks for sharing.
Patrick & Wiltshire Man are two of the best.
Thank you so much for your kind comments, I like to provide my viewers with a realistic view of my adventures in the hills, the wind rain and atmospheric conditions hopefully all provide this..... thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Never once had I thought of having a pint after the first leg of a walk, much less shortening that leg to 5 minutes. I'll not only take your lead on this one, Patrick, I'll also likely have a second pint just so that I'm totally relaxed before heading out on my second leg. And if, by chance or by design, there's another pub down the path along the way, I'll surely allow myself to be drawn in for another. For stopping in for a pint is to remain on the way. Cheers.
Quality as always Patrick 👍🏻🤣
Thank you, loved it up there..... thanks Pat
Your camp site was beautiful, amazing views all around and custom made for a bivy! I appreciate the time and effort you put into getting some great video footage. Thank you.
Yes just perfect for bivvying and natural shelter....thanks Pat

Another brilliant film. This one had a bit of everything - perfect! Thank you Pat.
My pleasure and thanks.......Pat
Lol Pat… 2 pints of beer would have seen me setting up camp on that pub table 😂
Great vid as always 👌👍
Haha, it was my calming down period....all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Pat: calm, HBFS: comatose 🤣… sad but true 😉
What an amazing Camp Pat! Wonderful to see you out again on top of Kinder! Thanks so much for taking us along with you and topping it off with some Magical Drone footage! Take it easy and look after yourself! I really enjoyed your Bivy camp and look forward to your next one! 👍☘️☕️🍷🍷😎

Sir that was a very enjoyable video, thanks for sharing your adventures in a beautiful part of the world.
My pleasure to share this beautiful landscape...... thanks Pat
Always a pleasure to watch cracking camp ,Thanks for sharing 👍.
My pleasure to share my adventures with you ... thanks Pat
Great to see you out again Pat... Showing Kinder in all her moods, and the excellent work by the local MRT's... ATB. Si.
Yes totally agree on both counts.....thanks Pat
Your stoicism is remarkable and the videos are very entertaining, I'm very impressed that you can maintain such a positive disposition in such inhospitable conditions, it says a lot about your character. Down the hatch Patrick!
Hi David, in my element up there, just love the outdoors, and the challenges it throws up...... thanks Pat 👍
Couldn't wait til i got home and watched at work. My workday will go much more well now... Thank you Pat!
My pleasure Moi..... thanks Pat
As always very enjoyable. Thanks for taking us along
My pleasure Michael, great to have you along...... thanks Pat
Another throughly enjoyable video Pat. Thanks for all your hard work putting these videos together. Always tricky tearing yourself away from a pub that does good cask ale 😉
Yes bit of a wrench, but there were hills to climb.... thanks Pat
I couldn't put my shopping away just had to watch you first. Superb video Pat you do make me laugh aswell. Wonderfull views and interesting to see Mountain Rescue. Your efforts are so appreciated.
Thanks so much Jean....got to have some humour, and such a beautiful area....thanks Pat
Thanks for taking us along with you, Pat. That was a great camp. Those burgers and pudding were mouth-watering! Your videos always make me nostalgic for my four years in Sheffield from 1973. Happy days. Thanks again.
Hi Malc, yes those 4 years must of been very memorable ,great to have you along.... thanks Pat
Absolutely the best content on CZcams. Thank You Pat so much
Really nice of you to say.... thanks Pat
Great to see the return of the amber nectar / ale. It's not the alcohol but that it is a symbol of relaxing, taking a moment, a breather. 'What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare'. It's the whole process from entering the drinking establishment, landing the full pint on the table, the first sip delicately savoured to the inevitable 'I might just get another'. The scenery again has been well captured expertly despite the odds. You are getting the balance between the component parts of each episode. Everything seems well planned and executed in a timely fashion. Well done and keep it up!
Thank you so much Tony, agree totally with what you say, looking, observing, and choosing the drink, then finally sampling, all the exciting part of getting a mere drink......but nothing can beat a night out in the wilds.... thanks Pat
Hello there Patrick, lovely seeing you was just watching land of the far north. Waiting for bear Island 🏝. Hope you are well x ❤
Hi Mary, lovely to hear from you, amazing night on Kinder Scout ....... all the best Pat 😊
Another absolute corker Pat! What a great spot, looked cosy in the Bivvy! Thank you for sharing as always :)
Yes unbelievable warm on a wild night..... thanks Pat
Brilliant as usual. Thanks for the upload. All the best
My pleasure and great of you to join me.... thanks Pat 😊
My favourite thing on CZcams is a new video from you Pat. You are a man after my own heart, I love the outdoors, love my food and a good gargle of ale. That weather looked a bit hairy, but adds to the adventure. Looking forward to the next one Pat... I can smell a nice rib eye cooking next time maybe? And some of that Idahoan instant mash! (tried this stuff after one of ur vids and it's great 😋) All the best, Lee
Yes a bit of ribeye is overdue, I think wild camping, good food and a few beers go together so well, see you on the next one..... thanks Pat
Hello Patrick, just watched your video and we experienced a mountain rescue where we live, we weren't the ones getting rescued, we just helped them out till they arrived, amazing watching them at work
That is awesome......so good we have them in a emergency.....thanks Pat
Glad to see you back and doing well. Thanks for another great video. Cheers!
Thanks Paul, great up there... thanks Pat
"Is the pub going to be open? it is so I'm calm now " haha you're a man of my my own heart on that one. Cheers.
Haha, important part of any camp, the pub, always a great place to start..... all the best Pat 😊
Awesome Pat ! ....I loved that rainbow in the distance right above your rock for the night. all the best Ant :-)
Thanks 👍....did,nt notice it I'll have another look.....thanks Pat
Hi there Pat.
Fantastic tip about the calming procedure before a wild camp, I must try it one of the times. I think it must be practiced a number of times quite regularly.
What stopped you from rolling of that ledge.
The joys of camping, mixed weather.
Take care Pat. And I look forward to joining you on your next backpacking adventure. Cheers. Pete.
Hi Pete certain calms you down and gets you fully into the wildcamping mood, usually lots of food and a few more drinks, the area under the rock was a bit lower probably due to 1000's of sheep sheltering there over the years so felt very secure......thanks Pat
Yet another great one Pat! Thanks mate 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Johnny......thanks Pat
Fantastic upload, thoroughly enjoyed it.. Thank you . 👍🏼👍🏼
My pleasure and so glad you enjoyed it...... thanks Pat
Great video Pat, loved every minute of it, you were lucky to get the clear views on the first day. It's nearly always socked in when I visit 😄 I have to say though, it's good to know that we have a brilliant mountain rescue group. I'm now going to open a hob goblin, 😄 looking forward to your next camp buddy.
Glad you enjoyed it Richard, normal Kinder weather as you saw, at least got a bit of drone footage....cheers Pat
Full marks for filming on a morning like that Pat, it's always appreciated 👍
Got to get footage when it's like that, really brings the video alive...... thanks Pat 👍
Another great wild camp, what a fantastic location right on the edge with those stunning views over Edale. The drone footage really does show us how remote these spots really are. Thanks for sharing. 👍
My pleasure David, my own personal balcony, with such a fantastic view..... thanks Pat 👍
Wow Pat! You had my heart racing seeing you teetering on that ledge packing up! Another great video as always. Thank you for sharing 💕 xx
It looked a lot wilder than is was Ginette, although it did prevent me from having my porridge for breakfast, always a great time up on Kinder Scout.... thanks Pat
ALWAYS NICE TO SEE YOU OUT CAMPING ,HOPE YOUR KEEPING WELL ,KEEP ON CAMPING LOVE IT X
Thanks Pauline, feeling very well and so looking forward to some great wild camps.....thanks Pat
Another great video Pat, from my favourite CZcams wild camper. I'm heading up to Kinder Scout myself this Friday. At least Kinder Downfall should be flowing so I can get some water, but I'll also be packing a couple of tins of McEwans Champion 7.3%... just as a back-up of course :)
Hi Hengist, should be a nice day looking at forcast, although as we know things can chage, I would definetly say there should be a bit of water flowing, but always could to have a standby, even at 7.3%.....all the best Pat
That was a wonderful little camp, thoroughly enjoyed that Patrick. And what a wonderful view, and yes big up to the mountain rescue. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it and many thanks Pat
Patrick, another truly entertaining video, thank you so much for your entertaining commentary and scenic drone views.
My pleasure Emilio, beautiful location , a true room with a view..... thanks Pat 👍
Makes one wonder what other hikers, hunters, trekkers or travelers have camped under the same rock, all the way back to the Neolithic and even before .. great video :)
Yes Martin, I also wonder the same thing, there were iron age and bronze age tribes in the area, and stone circles so you could imagine the different generations of people that could of slept under the very rock...wow.... thanks Pat
Well they're not there now are they, you silly man.
@@penelopeoates511 "Silly man" nuthin' - "Makes one wonder what other hikers & hunters, trekkers & travellers, vagabonds and villains have camped under the same rock."
@@martintimothy1915 They didn't have tents back then. Tents weren't invented until the 1970s. Saying ape men camped there is just ridiculous.
@@penelopeoates511 Yeah right on .. hi Patrick :)
Hey Pat, another great camp. Making friends with pub land lords helps with overnight parking spots. My camp spots are located near good pubs 👍🍺🍺
Great idea....always a safe place to park and somewhere to go on your return.....thanks Pat
I like how Pat turned the wheel of the car to face outwards, better security.
@@nige3801 Hey ain’t messing! All doors checked!
Another great video Pat, thanks for posting, looking forward to your next adventure, that drone footage was spectacular.
Thanks Brian, plenty more planned..... thanks Pat
So nice to see you out again Patrick. There’s something special about your videos. I find myself smiling throughout every shot. The sounds of sizzling burger and frying onions with occasional blustery winds in the background adds to occasion and of course the pattering rain, all to share your experience. Above all we share your experience.
Great to have you join me on my adventures, at the end of the day I do these videos for fun and enjoyment and so pleased it shows through....... all the best Pat 😊
Patrick Dickinson is a national treasure . Love the video Pat would love to see you do another railway tunnel video or a drain video James
I know James, just not got the places to explore in my local area....... thanks Pat

I know what I am watching when I get home from work later 😂
too right Chris, I've just had a little taster jus before I get my plasterin gear out...roll on home time
Hope yo enjoy it Chris....a bit wild up there....Pat
@@ianthompson7996 Always best to watch when eating dinner, otherwise his cooking makes me hungry haha
Thanks for video Pat. I believe Wild Beare did that area also earlier. What a windy mess she had also.
I'l have to have a look at here video... thanks Pat
Another brilliant video from my favorite youtuber. Well done Patrick for another great video, just fantastic! Thank you! looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Elmyn, such a great place to spend the night..... thanks Pat
Something magical about the scenery up there and what a great spot to have a burger or two or three, excellent drone footage as well.
Shame you had to wait till you got home to have your breakfast but the weather had other ideas 😀
Yes every camp up there brings something different , could be the weather, the view or something unknown.....thanks Pat
Great entertainment, which puts the hustle and bustle of modern life into perspective. Excellent presentation and photography as usual, like we are actually there. Minor point was I couldn't read the red letters on the green background, but white was fine. Your videos are to me what Wainwright's Gold is to you! 😃
Much appreciated Mike, yes sometimes i swap and change the lettering colours to make the best of the background, not always get it right, see you on the next one Pat
Excellent all round. Thanks for taking us with you!
It a pleasure to have you with me on my adventures....... thanks Pat
Thanks for all your hard work, enjoyed that as usual, you can't beat being out in beautiful Spot's like that, I love the peak District. 👍😁👍
Yes Dave, definitely a room with a view.... thanks Pat
Love it ! Was a bit worried the camera was going to blow off the edge! Another awesome video
You and me both!........thanks Pat
Great adventure Pat,the rescue just goes to show what can happen out of nowhere and the brilliant job the rescue people do.
P. S l hope that was kinder water in that bottle in front of your rucksack when packing away.lol
Hi Vince, yes seeing the Mountain Rescue brings home the wild area we camp in, and a reminder to take care, and yes it may look like tea, but it's kinder water, fully filtered... thanks Pat
Great video Pat!
What brutal conditions the following morning. I chuckled when you appeared to be nearly being blown away however I know how desperate it must have felt!
Can’t wait for your next adventure!
Take care!
Thanks Bràm, amazing room with a view up there, and yes a little breezy in the morning..... thanks Pat 👍
Thank you Patrick for such a very beautiful video! Lovely! I wish you and your family a cozy weekend!😃👍💚
Hi Dennis, yes a lovely wild night on Kinder... thanks Pat
You are the greatest wild camper. Not like the masses who can’t camp unless there are 3 or more, and as for those stupid community camps, the true spirit of wild camping has been lost. Thank you for keeping it real Pat.
Thanks Matty, prefer it on my own, the thought of other people there terrifies me, probablish selfish, just don,t want to have to consider other people on my camp.....thanks Pat
Views like that are medicine for the soul, despite the weather it still looked a great camp. As for those safe places, the amount of stuff I lose in safe places too😂
Very true! you p[ut it somewhere safe and it dissapears, any time of the year up there is so good for you.....thanks Pat
Full marks again Pat for effort, a mountain goat with glasses on precarious position. Good on you. Harry
Haha. thanks Harry, I may of been a mountain goat in a former life..... thanks Pat 😊
Thanks Pat, the other day I finally could go (not wild) camping I'd been dreaming for a long time since I watched your videos. Mine was really simple one, just sleeping at a public camping place, but was fantastic experience for me. Now I feel fresh air, wind and taste of food more directly from your video. Thanks.
We all have to start that way and progres slowly to the wilder places....now you have a taste for it......all the best Pat
Drone footage looked great on the big screen Pat. Frying burgers and onions with that view over the valley and Grindsbrook, one of those moments in life where it just doesn't get any better. Thanks Pat.
Thanks 👍....yes loctaion was just perfect, a very memorable camp.....thanks Pat
Wow! You find some amazing spots and your production is worthy of its own show.
Thanks for inspiring and educating us all.
Spend ages rece ing these places they are all so hidden away, but some amazing pitches waiting to be discovered.....thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 yeh I struggled to be able to pay for enough time that I wanted to stay. It was the same for the big main car park too. I expected a ticket but was ok.
Love your enthusiasm and positivity Patrick. Keep on making these inspirational videos 😊👍🍻
Thanks Laura, yes a lot of what you do and how you tackle life is in your head, think positive, and it usually is...... all the best Pat

Fantastic to see you out again and in great form Pat.
Thanks Alan....wonderful location to spend the night......thanks Pat
Another top video Patrick , much appreciated.
Hi Gazza, fantastic location, my own room with a view.... thanks Pat
What an amazing spot Pat. I wonder who has sheltered there over the millennia?
I wonder if they drank and ate there, perhaps they cooked their meat like you did? Perhaps they ate it raw? Were they hunter gatherers? Were they outlaws? We’ll never know.
Hi yes I always wonder the same, that rock will of been there for thousands of years.....thanks Pat

Thanks Pat for another great Camp, I admire your dedication to wild Camping and the conditions you have to endure. Stay Safe. Geoff.
Thanks Geoff, when I,am out camping, sometimes it can be a bit tough, and uncomfortable, but the feeling of being really alive out cancels out any discomfort......new video out next couple of days...... all the best Pat 👍
Very interesting video, thanks Pat. I've never had the cojones to wild-camp but I have immense admiration for those that do. The food looked mouth-wateringly good too.
Hi Bobby...I try to make my videos entertaining and inspiring....... thanks Pat 👍
Another great video that makes me want to get out again!
Thanks Mark, once your out there you realise how fantastic it is up there..... thanks Pat
Another awesome video Patrick. Your videos are so enlightening to wild camping experiences. I & my hubby climbed up to Grindslow Knoll & onto the Kinder plateau & don jacobs ladder in August for the first time, it was amazing! But to do it with all your camping gear…😮 I truly don’t know how you do it! We always await the next video from you with great anticipation!! Thank you. ❤️x
Hi Sylvia , you will of seen a beautiful part of Kinder Scout on your walk, must admit it is hard work climbing up with all my gear, but once up the rest is easy and so enjoyable, may bump into you one day....... thanks Pat

Yes all though a long way off those hi Vis jackets really stand out.... thanks Pat
I was three sheets to the wind when I watched this post the first time. So I watched it again; in the two sheets configuration. I enjoyed the video in both. I'll watch them as long as you make them. The wife and I are heading to a cabin with a fireplace. :) God bless Pat.

Fantastic stuff Patrick* Always a pleasure* Thank you for continuing to share & bring us along to these remote & amazing places* Sending best & well wishes* :-)
Many thanks!....always a pleasure to share my adventures....thanks Pat
Another lovely, and very much appreciated outdoor video. Given the general weather conditions, your drone footage was just right. What stood out for me was how you gave us - the viewers, a few of the adversities of camping - in this case it was ‘bivying’ during fall, and how one might contend with typical weather for that time of year.
I loved camping in Derbyshire. It was usually one of my long awaited pursuits that took place five, six, sometimes seven times annually - each camping session lasting for the duration of at least two days. Since I never mustered self confidence - or ‘stomach’ if you will to pursue wild camping, I always drove to designated camp sites, payed my fees, parked up, and pitched up!
Returning from a camping session - no matter what the weather conditions had been, always gave me a feeling of how it might have felt to have been part of a combatting, and conquering army, or slaying a six-headed Satanic beast, as well as an always euphoric feeling of satisfaction I’d achieved it all ‘on the cheap’ LOL! Yes my friend, never once did I drive away from a camp site feeling I’d been ‘short-changed’.
A week ago, when I last visited Sheffield, I called into Black’s on The Moor, and Decathlon (diagonally from St Mary’s church) to look at one, and two person tents, as well as basic camping requirement items. Though I considered a few items were little on the pricey side, what I was mainly interested in was not as expensive as I’d thought. Yes, camping - now that I’m retired, is one of those pursuits I’m thinking about re-kindling. Although I’m now retired, I feel quite fit. In truth and reality, I’m quite sure I’m not ready for retirement just yet LOL!
I’ve tendered separate offers on two house in Sheffield - each one rejected - not the end of the world - and referring to the world, and taking into account a few of the headline affairs, as well as home economic and financial conditions, house prices might well fall in my favour.
Hope to catch up with you some time again - preferably not at Blacstock Road recycling centre LOL.
Cheers buddy, Phil.
Hi Phil, good to here your returning to Sheffield, could imagine buying a house is a stressful time, it always has been, especially when people are bidding against you, but hopefully you'll find somewhere soon.
Would be great if you can get out wild camping again, can be a bit daunting getting all new gear together, but the benefits of spending time on your own in the wilds are immense.
All the best for the future.....Pat
Pat just want to thanks for keeping us entertained and informed and another great year of footage. Have a great Christmas with your family and I’m sure I speak for everyone. We look forward to seeing you next year. Best wishes
Thanks Andrew, really nice of you to say..... thanks Pat
