  • When I was researching this amp, all I saw were people playing chuga-chuga style metal with Quickrods which isn't exactly my jam (I'm a Slash/Angus/Hendrix/Gilmour/SRV kinda guy) so I was determined to make a proper demo of this amp using different guitars (Les Paul, SG, EBMM Luke and Fender EJ Strat) and going through all the "gears" and gain stages of this amazing amp. Hope you like it! Keep in mind I'm not a great guitar player and don't do this channel to promote my guitar skills....it's really about my love of guitars, amps and guitar gear so keep that in mind when watching!

    You said exactly what I've been saying since I discovered Splawn. Scott Splawn absolutely get's it. He doesn't give you more gain, he just takes what's there and makes it astonishingly punchy, and percussive, which is what people are after today, if you're a guitar player who grew up with the guitar players from the 70's and 80''. *He's made an absolute masterpiece, that by today's amp prices, are very affordable.* I saw a couple of used ones for under $1500. This is the Friedman, and Marshall that were never made. You hit the nail on the head. After the massive amount of hype surrounding Friedman amps, when I went to hear one, I was beyond disappointed. THIS was the sound I expected to hear. The only thing that is in this realm is a well-dialed in SLO (maxed crunch channel). But, who has $4K+ for an SLO100. This is even cheaper than the SLO30. There's nothing to my knowledge, short of the perfect mod, on the perfect Marshall that comes even remotely close to this amp. I'm stunned as to why more guys aren't playing them. And, I felt the same way about that clean channel. I love warm British cleans....and this amp can do that. Watch the latest Splawn video (deep dive into the company), and the cleans Scott Splawn is pulling out of this amp, are beautiful (if you like that JTM style clean), and he's ripping off some EVH tones in that video that are just as impressive. I have a Friedman Little Sister, that I absolutely love. It's spectacular for what it does. And, with a HotMod V2 EVO on it, it sounds even more spectacular. So, Friedmans have their place, depending on the style....but there's not a Friedman (or any other amp on the market) on the market that sounds like this. Not a single pedal is necessary, IMO. Great vide, and very well done. Can never get enough of Splawn demo's.

    Great demo. These are great amps. A lot of people think they’re Marshall based due to the Marshall style headshell but actually they’re Soldano based like a Hot Rod circuit. Near exact Soldano cathode/plate gain stages and exact tone stack EQ as a Soldano. Not a clone but more tweaked Soldano. No bright cap like a Friedman on the OD channels which gives it that open tone and cleans up well. Splawn’s are very underrated. Congrats!

      actually you are right...now that I think about it, these are voiced more like Soldanos...but let's be real...Soldanos are hot rodded Marshall's lol but I get your point and agree. Thx for watching!

      @phillamoore157 Před 3 měsíci +1

      That's a spot on assessment, Brent... Soldano, and Splawn absolutely get it. As much of an SLO freak as I am, I think I like the Splawn just a bit more. Seems like a warmer circuit, but still incredibly percussive. It's been a while, but if memory serves, you have a killer demo channel yourself. 👍

      @@phillamoore157thanks Phil for the kind words! I’m actually ramping up my channel with new logos, video intro music and better quality filming, lighting and editing. @@BPToneReview Outstanding!! You know, man, you’re actually the one who inspired me to buy my Little Sister. I saw the tone you were pulling out of your Twin Sister and absolutely fell in love with that line. I just went with the “tamer” version. Before it’s all over I’m sure I’m going to have one of these Quickrods. It’s the only amp outside of an SLO, whose tones are exactly what I hear in my head (or better). But I digress, I’ll definitely check out the new channel. I thought your existing set up was killer. That big wall of amps and cabinets was really cool. A dream-room of sorts. Wishing you all the best with it, brother. The manufacturers are fools to not consider working with you. I’ll definitely check out the new channel. 👍

    Great review.. I have an older 2007 4 button footswitch QR.. keep in mind this amp was Scotts love of VH1 Brown Sound.. so they are darker and Jose Mod type Marshall sounds.. Gear 1 does a good plexi with gain below noon.. over noon it gets gnarly.. gear 2 covers most bases.. gear 3 is a LOT.. when i do ACDC.. I can get cleanish Malcolm on GEAR 1 with gain at 11 O;clock.. and clean boost to get angus.. (I use the Solodalls Storm).. its awesome.. but it covers so many things and thrash metal as well.. These amps are TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT and dont need boost.. but it does add sizzle.. some say it can sound DRY.. but its the clarity of notes that does that.. fantastic amp.. you need t dial it in for sure.. I added a bright cap on a switch ion the back to go from BROWN to SIZZLE.. great review.. !!

    Great Demo!!!. I owned 2008 model. iI think this Amp is more similar to The kind of 80s gain than Friedman BE 100. Scott must be a little maker and The brand don’t spent too money in marketing like Friedman did it.

      thanks a lot man! Honestly, I havn't tried either the JEL or the TS but both sound great. I have owned TONS of dirty shirley's and overall it's my favorite Friedman amp. You are right, the Quickrod is similar to the BE100 for sure. I've never owned an older version BE-100 but I did own the BE-50 DLX and I wasn't crazy about it; the Quickrod is more "marshally" to me and I love Marshall tones so this is why I prefer it. I'd love to try an older version BE-100. Cheers!

    How you think it compares to the Bogner Ecstasy?

    • @KelsterVonShredster
      @KelsterVonShredster  Před 10 měsíci +4

      That's a loaded question. Truthfully, I think the XTC is a better made amp aesthetically. Functionally, the XTC doesn't have that strange loud chirp you get with the QuickRod when turning the amp off too soon. Boost wise, I find the boosts kind of useless on the XTC whereas the Solo boost on the Quickrod is fantastic. The XTC also costs almost double, so Quickrod wins in price. In terms of pure Marshall tones, the Quickrod wins. In terms of clean channel, the XTC wins. In terms of flexibility, the XTC also wins as it has 3 incredible channels. I think both are fantastic amps and you get what you pay for. I also think the XTC is a better built amp, also easthetically it's simply beautiful. But for what I paid, the QuickRod is a steal and absolutely a fantastic amp that is quite flexible. Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching!
