The look of pride on Scott's face just past the 14-minute mark says it all about his amps. I have a Competition, and it's impossible not to smile when you crank it up. I gigged with a pushed 1981 2203 for a few years, thinking it was the ultimate, but the tone I wanted from that amp comes straight from Splawn's shop with zero boost and little tweaking.
Soldano,Bogner,Friedman, Mesa is all amazing amps...but Splawn QR is miracle !!! 🎸❤️🤘🏻

Amen. I don't know of any other amp that touches this. Maybe a well dialed-in Soldano uber-crunch. There's not a Friedman on the planet that touches this. But, this amp is absolutely FILTHY good. He even had the clean sounding good, which I typically don't like on Splawns. JFC, this thing sounded good....
I ordered mine in stock at Matt’s music in 2014. New in box..Always reminded me of an old plexi amp that’s been modded for more gain.

Glad to hear from another splawn-atic. (You’re welcome for the dad joke) It was a blast for me to put it together. I kept thinking at some point something will get delegated out. But when I saw him shaping up his own chassis from a piece of sheet metal I was convinced it was all him or nothing at all

It is just incredible to me how one person can embody so many talents. Guitarist, Electronics, Design, woodworking. I am in awe of this man. No wonder a second hand SPLAWN amp is hard to find.

Splawn Amps are incredible. I'm going to be ordering my 2nd Quick Rod 100 head this year. These amps are absolutely top notch in both tone and build quiality. Nothing beats them. Splawn amps do Not dissapoint.

The Master at his craft! Over the years I have seen alot of those amps built while eating my lunch and the amazing thing I enjoyed was the board that hung on the wall where the amps were going. Just to name a few I remeber seeing Germany, Japan, Hawaii and I think Brazil and then all over the U.S. Scott truely is a Master at what he does and also is a phenomenal person! You are the man Mr. Splawn!!!

Scott Splawn does Mr Scary - got that wicked sensation. I am duly impressed by the craftsmanship and care that goes into the amps and I can hear they sound as good as an amp can sound. It’s obvious these are the crème of the crop. I’ve been also blown away by Bogner - and the uberschall twin jet is astounding with any guitar….I would like to have a Splawn as well….someday the wallet may accommodate 😅 I came here because I saw Punky Meadows using a Splawn

it really does. cool thing is it will roar at bedroom volume too! they come with master volumes on the back of the amp..same tone at whisper.
@@calebdavismusic3148 Wow, that's good to know. I was looking between the 50 watt version and the 100 watt version. I owned a 120 watt Peavey JSX for over a decade. It was a great amp, with great tone at bedroom levels but I was never able to fully open it up!
@@CoffeeDrinker71Buy the 50w. Trust me. Splawn amps are the loudest motherf’ing amps I’ve ever played with hahaha The 50w will bury everyone if you want to. When I had a 100w, it was always on 50w ;) The other guitarist of our band has a Quick Rod Super Sport 50w and it’s still loud af haha And it doesn’t lose any clarity or tone.

I have never owned one of his amps, but have owned several of his 2x12s and they are incredible! I have wanted a Pro Mod forever! Granted they aren't made any longer, so I would just snag a Quick Rod with KT88s. Thanks for posting this video! It was so much fun to see the process!!!

I've still got my Nitro, aka Mufasa. It's nearly 17 years old and I believe it could be the original black one shown in TuskerKevin's old videos. I bought it right when they went on sale and swapped all the black knobs for white ones. Who knows though. He may have built quite a few all black Nitro's back then.
Scott saw my vids and built me the Z28 black/white racing stripes headshell and I also bought the matching tolex 4x12 which I also still have and use nearly every day.
I just wish Scott would get back with me about a bugged out FX loop and presence knob :/ I don't want anyone besides him messing with this unit. I've tried emailing him quite a few times with no luck getting a reply :(

Awesome Video. I've had my Splawn Nitro since about 2007/2008 and lets say many amps have come into my possession, and all have left except for the Splawn Nitro. Love the way it sounds.. and with the right settings, it can go from clean to mean.

This video is not only incredibly well-produced, but needed. These amps are nothing short of spectacular. I think the only reason Splawn isn't MUCH bigger is because of how small of an operation it is, and they're not marketed/distributed like the "big boys". But, given what he charges, you're getting a BEAST of an amp. My only thing with Splawn is that I have yet to hear a clean channel I really like. Then again, the epidemic of people on CZcams that have no idea how to dial in an amp is as astonishing as Splawn is spectacular. But, I digress... *Killer, much needed video, for a legend of a builder that represents the quality and work-ethic of the American south. Reminds me a little of how Soldano used to build his amps prior to BAD. And, that performance at the end was just as amazing. I had no idea that Scott Splawn was THAT good. Although, a cattle prod needs to be on hand at all times when you shredders start playing to many notes.....(just sayin')🤣.*
Thank you for your post. Scott is a killer player you’re right about that. That’s him at the very end playin skynyrd with me. I feel like his clean channel is something that gets overlooked. You can hear it in the demo section. I love it. Very nice and fat sounding. Do you use a splawn?
@@calebdavismusic3148 Yeah, you both are spectacular players. I enjoyed the Hell out of that. When he had it on the bench, and was playing all those riffs, I just melted in my chair. That's the first time I've heard his clean channel have that really warm plexi-esq clean. I would've purchase one years ago, but that's what held me up. I regret that now. *I damn near got the credit card out right there on the spot. But a 100w amp is just too much for me these days...unless it has a VERY good Master Volme.*
I'm not playing out, anymore, so I down-sized, and am just playing through a Friedman Little Sister right now, with a HotMod V2 EVO, customized to fit the smaller chassis, and I'm otherwise very happy with it. It doesn't touch a Quickrod...but, for a small 20w bedroom amp it sounds very, very good. And, that HotMod get's me close enough to that modded-plexi uber-crunch, to where I still enjoy it, for playing classic hard rock stuff. I'll definitely have one some day, though.
I'm just a MASSIVE fan, and follow the company. I learned about them years ago researching an amp purchase, and have been following him ever since. I flat out don't understand why more guys aren't playing them. As a side-note, I thought Splawns were P2P wiring. Is Scott using PCB's? Not a complaint, just wondering. And, I'd love to hear a really good demo of his lower watt amps, as well. Btw...I didn't see a master volume on these. Are you able to play this in a low-volume setting, and still have it sound good? That was my biggest concern with picking one up. Thanks again for posting. That was desperately needed. Incredibly well-done.
They do all come with a master volume located on the back of the head. You can do the 50 or even 100watt at a whisper and it still has the same tone and feel. Even the combo I have (at beginning of the video to my left) has a master volume. You can engage it or bypass and go straight front panel controls. I leave the front volume 12 o’clock so it drives and then use my master volume for whatever actual level I want or need. Very helpful. They also all come with a 1/2 power cut. So 100 becomes 50- 50 becomes 25 etc.

Does he use baltic birch for heads too? That's such a waste of great cab material in a spot where any other plywood would do just fine :D

@@calebdavismusic3148 well it is a waste, there is no reason to make an amp enclosure out of premium material best used for cabs. It would be called "overspecced" every 5 or 6 heads you could make a cab out of and since the heads are tolexed anyway it might be a good idea to use a cheaper and less scarce material that might be lighter and therefore better. Also that would reduce manufacturing cost and possibly the price for end user
I use baltic birch on the head boxes because it is void free so I never have to waste time filling voids that the other plywood has. Also the Baltic comes in a 5' x 5' sheet which just works out better with my size parts which has less waste than a 4' x 8' does@@ilmisxx2
