    I just ordered a 2014 ELR from Carmax. Free Delivery. MSRP on this fully loaded ELR was $85K. Currently One Owner Books and Records for $29K with new tires. All past Services completed by Cadillac. Can't wait to drive it... Thanks for an awesome review... JP

    Style wise this is probably the prettiest Caddy of 2010s alongside the CTS-V coupe IMO. I wish HW or Matchbox made the miniature version of this poshed up Chevy volt.

    People who are calling this car ugly need their eyes checked, car has won a ton of design awards. See it in person, it is striking and unlike anything you have seen before for the price which is now mid to high 20's depending on mileage.

    5:43 The ELR has been accepting a pretty bad bashing over that. In all honesty, the ELR hasnothing to do with the Tesla. It wouldbe like comparing the Alfa Romero Breara with a Jaguar XF. There's no reason to compare the two.
    The ELR's true and only competitor is the Fisker Karma. Big, flashy, impressive and most importantly, exclusive.
    Those who want and adore one aren't too concerned with price, nor do they want blistering performance that are important when playing Top Trumps. Both the ELR and Karma are settled and nicely capable tourers that constantly wind around roads or cruising on the street catching everyone's eye. That's far different than the desire of going as quick as possible in a straight line at the lights or navagating around traffic.

      @XR4turbo Před 9 lety +1

      ELR and Tesla S are both premium market cars focused on lower environmental impact. Why shouldn't they be compared? Because the technology is different? That's not a good reason. It's different technology directed at the same goal.

    • @quantumperplexity
      @quantumperplexity Před 8 lety +1

      GM sold only 1310 ELR's in 2014. Sadly, their rarity won't boost this car into the art or classic high-valued range. Instead, it ranks up there with Turkeys that have been thrown out of a helicopter around Thanksgiving. Even for the low $30's it's still not worth it especially given the more modern competition like a Tesla S that can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and has full torque and throttle available for 320 miles on full EV.

    • @reactor4
      @reactor4 Před 8 lety

      Who buys rare cars to drive to work or supermarket in? I want something that will do around 30 mile or more on electric then go to gas so I don't have to wonder the country side looking for charging station. If you want to talk rarity Telsa could go with way for dodo bird in 5 years if the model 3 does not take off. Tesla is losing what, $15,000 a car right now? If I want fast, I'll take my track only M3 if I want range I'l take my BMW X5.

  • @jsponson
    @jsponson Před 10 lety

    Please consider making a distinction between plug-in hybrid and extended range electric in your reviews. If the ELR's ICE doesn't kick in during a full acceleration run (assuming adequate charge in the battery) then it's more of an extended range EV.

  • @counkev
    @counkev Před 10 lety

    You are right, this car does have a bad design. But with properly equpied tires I think this would do 0-60 in 8 or less, I am pretty sure they got winter tires considering where motorweek is. Also thesmokingtire said that the chasis is very capable so handling will be improved with proper tires.
    And people get a Cadillac for the brand sure Tesla is high-tech but interior quality is not on par to Cadillac. And with the ELR you won't have ANY range anxiety at all especially if you are traveling long distances without those super chargers. Or have 35 mile range and have 30 miles to go but you want to drive it hard.
    However I do agree Tesla is a better choice for most people.

  • @johnls39
    @johnls39 Před 10 lety +2

    The ELR is O.K. for what it is in price but Cadillac needs to sweat the details a bit more for this car to be worthy of its price tag. Here are the misses for the car. (lack of a power sunroof which is not available at all), hood support to raise the hood instead hydraulics (come on Cadillac!), trunk hinges that intrude trunk space, Eco-tires which hamper handling, lack of all-wheel drive as an option and under-nourished horsepower and torque (need 100+ horsepower and torque). This is a beautiful car but Cadillac needs to sweat the details a bit more on this car for the price tag.

      Corvette King No dude just no, the new S class doesn't compete with 7 series or A8 anymore, that level of luxury only comes in the likes of Bentley and Rolls but the Benz will give them a run for their money. Mercedes actually gives you what you are paying for and you have to remember imported cars cost more because of shipping and importing fees etc. Tell me what that Cadillac is giving you for over 75 grand wtf? Also domestic cars are cheaper to sell here so it doesn't make any sense but OVERPRICED.

      I was thinking the same thing. The price tag is ridiculous for the performance and although the front end looks nice, overal the car looks bulky and ugly to be honest. I'm only saying that because it seems like they wanted to make it appear very aggressive yet they had to fit it with 20 Inc rims to hide the cars hight and stance. Overal probably number one over priced car of all time

  • @mrolskul
    @mrolskul Před 10 lety +3

    At nearly 84 large, this dressed-up Volt is knocking on Tesla territory. However, with a mere 35-mile EV range and 0-60 time of over 8 seconds, it's nowhere near the impressive Tesla's 250-mile EV range and sports-car-like 0-60 time of 3 point something seconds. All this coupled with Tesla's free, ridiculously-fast, charging station infrastructure being put in place now, makes this Caddy a big, fat, miss. And don't get me started on still having to purchase fuel for this car. What's the point?
    If you want an electric, buy a Tesla and if you want a hybrid, buy a Prius. Otherwise, save your money and skip this car, you'll thank me for it.
