I owned, drove, and loved my fully loaded Black on Black 2014 ELR for 6 years. I bought it in 2017 from a Caddy Dealer in White Plains, NY - they never sold it and retained it as a Fleet Vehicle with 11k miles and it was in Mint Condition when I bought it for $34k. Cadillac only made 2,403 of the 2014 ELRs and I was one of the very lucky people to have owned one of Cadillac's very first EVs. No ELRs were made in 2015 but then Cadillac rolled out a much improved ELR in 2016 in which they boosted the Torque from 295 ft-lbs in the 2014 model to 373 ft-lbs for the 2016 model - making it a Pocket Rocket! However, only 530 of the awesome 2016 models were made - and I am one of the very proud, and very happy owners of this truly awesome automobile - a Mint Condition fully loaded model with a gleaming Gloss White exterior and a Gorgeous Two-Tone Cashmere Interior. It is everything that I loved about the 2014 model - and so much more! Sadly, ELR production ended with the 2016 model which is without question, the most awesome car that Cadillac has ever made! Because of the very limited production run of the 2016 ELR with only 530 made - very few people will ever be able to experience what an absolutely amazing car the 2016 Cadillac ELR is - a one-of-a-kind exceptional Luxury Hybrid EV with no match in the entire world!
Cooley is the king of auto car docs. He is smoother than a cashmere codpeace. American hosts are normally very bland. This guy is informed and his presence on screen superb. Puts a spanner in the works for the tyre burning Clarkson et al gang. Top marks Brian.
In my Volt the breaks feel or function as Regen, Max Regen, Hard breaks. I learned this slamming on them one day when someone pulled out in front of me.
That Cadillac won't sell like they may have hoped it will. lol Brian, You shouldve included waze in the app list, I saw it, but you didn't name it or really talk about it.
Cooley is right about the drive selector. Modern cars should not have console shifters as if they were some late sixties muscle car. Toyota and Chrysler have it right, everybody else has it wrong. A shifter on a modern car should be a big, obvious interface in an out of the way place. Something that's easy to access without having to put your eyes on it.
+Josh Bobst The drive selector used to be on the steering column. That was a good location as it freed-up space on the floor for a storage console (or a center seat) .
Comparing the ELR to the Model S? One's a PHEV, the other an EV. One's a coupe, the other a sedan. Obviously there's a little unfairness. Cadillac doesn't even consider the Model S a competitor to the ELR because they're in two different segments.
In a way, all cars are in competition with one another. If a small SUV has enough room and towing capacity to meet someone's needs, they might pick it over a pickup truck that they were first considering.
I think the weight of the engine on the front wheels is the reason the cVolt and ELR do not feel as sporty as the Leaf and other EV cars. Its all added weight for the engine and exhaust...
The 2014 one just looked so weird and was not that good in my opinion but I also think that and Cadillac between 2000 and 2014 just did not look that good. The 2016 though I liked and looked really good and was just more practical than the 2014 model. It’s hard to find a 16 ELR because those ones are actually good and the no one wants the 14
Cooley is right when you factor in taxes and all that your easily looking at 90K to even a 100K at that point I would run not walk out of the dealership. Also I get automakers are getting "fancy" with everything being touch sensitive call me old fashion but o wouldn't mind some physical buttons
This ELR reviews hasn’t aged well as EV charging stations are occupied or not working. How bout for $20K you get a futuristic looking coupe with no EV anxiety? I just bought one.
+Volnik WOW Tesla is not as nice inside as the Cadillac. Heck you could buy the Chevy Volt at 30k, and still have as nice interior as the 80k Tesla (and have 50,000 left in your bank account) .
I think the Volt has a great interior besides rear leg room. The dash is very attractive. Some have modded it with LED strips under the 'pillows' on the top side of the dash.
No not for me. If i am travelling somewhere, I just around for a 120V regular outlet if I can, or search up 240 volt charging station on plugshare.com. Or just use gas.
+J. Garcia THE car makers want to keep the car data for themselves (and any profit they can gain from it). If they install a Google, Apple, or Microsoft OS then those companies will take the data/profit away from the car maker .
A Tesla Model S ISN'T Less by the way, You figure as equipped as this ELR is - you can take that 80k sticker price and add another 50k to it. Then you're in Tesla Territory. Let's not forget that the Model S comes with NO Driver Assistance Technology, but nearly doubles the range of this ELR and looks Sexier than it and the volt combined :-)
Jermaine Owens A base Tesla in Canada is $77,200 after state credits, that's about 63k US if you convert it. If I were to choose his configured ELR vs a base Tesla, I'd go with the Tesla.
Caddilliac just can't seem to find that niche. With overpriced, sedans and coupe that so.ole can't even perform on par with what other manufactors nhave to offer. The future looks poor. They need introduce new engineers. New marketing.

That ELR could fill an entire episode of Fail Blog.
Cooley is THE best, he deserves it's own channel.
"Very cool! , Very Stupid!" that made me laugh so much 3:12
Cooley is the king of auto car docs. He is smoother than a cashmere codpeace. American hosts are normally very bland. This guy is informed and his presence on screen superb. Puts a spanner in the works for the tyre burning Clarkson et al gang. Top marks Brian.
When ever I see the Cnet on cars clips, I watch them and then wait for the full episode lol
for 30k it's a beautiful ride now!
Great Show Cnet! Cooley, my hat goes off to you again sir. Superb.
good review of the ELR. Well done overall.
i love this show.
me too
8:05; the electric motor whine in the 2016 Prius is rather loud, surprised it is so loud versus the Volt/ELR vehicles.
In my Volt the breaks feel or function as Regen, Max Regen, Hard breaks. I learned this slamming on them one day when someone pulled out in front of me.
Pause at 00:44!!
He is all like
"That booty had me like!!" Lol
Very cool
I laughed out loud when I saw Cooley in the Lexus back in 2007.
I know how to parallel park exactly the way Brian should it its soo easy that way, and im a noob at driving
The dog is so cute omg LOL
WoooW it just like me dream car its perfect :)
22:04 LOL! I can relate.
Can you review a forest xt vs the jeep Cherokee trail hawk
5:55 Brian Cooley, It is NOT a lean burn engine. It burns at stoichiometric or richer, like just about all automotive engines today.
What about trucks or light cargo vehicles? Something i can carry my gramma's lumber in?
That Cadillac won't sell like they may have hoped it will. lol
Brian, You shouldve included waze in the app list, I saw it, but you didn't name it or really talk about it.
Will you please do a review for the 2014 Infiniti Q50 PLEASE!!!???

its all fine and good talking about pet restraints but what if you have an Irish Wolfhound (like me) , or any other massive dog such as a Great Dane.

They're closely priced.
In a way, all cars are in competition with one another. If a small SUV has enough room and towing capacity to meet someone's needs, they might pick it over a pickup truck that they were first considering.

Seriously?? The video is age restricted?? :P lol
Yeah cause its a review on how Cadillac is trying to rape its customers

If Cooley was in the new Top Gear People would actually watch it.
7:10 first thing you noticed was the terrible brakes… have you ever driven a w211 mercedes e class? the brake pedal feel is god awful
Touch screen navigation isn't very good.
Did rob ford make up the pricing for this car? Cuz someone was smokin crack!
dodge trucks have had the built in code reader since the early 90's
No way there selling this caddi
$75,000 2 door american car...nuff said!
the cadillac sucks

How to read this 31/35 MPG? What's 31 and what's 35?
+Shamal Karunarathne
31 city 35 highway
Why does CHEVY have really good concept of what a great car should be, but piss poor execution. Not all the times. But more so than others.
This ELR reviews hasn’t aged well as EV charging stations are occupied or not working. How bout for $20K you get a futuristic looking coupe with no EV anxiety? I just bought one.
Why not buy a diesel?? most get over 50 mpg easily
touch sensitive buttons on a american dont go together, just put knobs
wow 80k for ELR.. Tesla is a no-brainer here..
+Volnik WOW Tesla is not as nice inside as the Cadillac. Heck you could buy the Chevy Volt at 30k, and still have as nice interior as the 80k Tesla (and have 50,000 left in your bank account)
.
+electrictroy2010 not true. The volt has a really ugly interior.
I think the Volt has a great interior besides rear leg room. The dash is very attractive. Some have modded it with LED strips under the 'pillows' on the top side of the dash.
97k at the one I looked at F that !
I saw one of these the other day and it looked good! But not as good as my 8mpg V8! ;)
I can't even eat peanut butter, so I wouldn't know
Tesla for the win
I drive a Chevy volt and would not buy this Cadillac, Tesla is the way to go
is it a pain in the ass to find outlets and wait for the car the charge up all the time?
+Lee Wang THE time wasted charging a Tesla is zero (while you sleep)
.
No not for me. If i am travelling somewhere, I just around for a 120V regular outlet if I can, or search up 240 volt charging station on plugshare.com. Or just use gas.
Had one. Big mistake.
Turn off the age restrictions!!!!
maybe for 30000 but 70000 never
...After the first 3 minutes I went Deaf...etc...
touch sensitive buttons, no dials FORGET IT! wont get this car.
isn't this for older people? it's not intuitive at all...
I don't understand why car makers keep trying to make their own in-car OS. Just use android it's simpler.
I've been thinking the same.
+J. Garcia THE car makers want to keep the car data for themselves (and any profit they can gain from it). If they install a Google, Apple, or Microsoft OS then those companies will take the data/profit away from the car maker
.
I'd rather have a Tesla.
I'd rather spend my $80k on a large sedan.
Why would anyone buy this car over a Tesla?
second
I mean first...
A Tesla Model S ISN'T Less by the way, You figure as equipped as this ELR is - you can take that 80k sticker price and add another 50k to it. Then you're in Tesla Territory. +WuWei Xu I'd rather go with a Chevy Volt and save 55,000 dollars. The Volt's interior is just as nice as the stripped base Tesla
.
electrictroy2010 So you're telling me a Volt is only 10 grand? ROFL.
Very cool very stupid lol
Caddilliac just can't seem to find that niche. With overpriced, sedans and coupe that so.ole can't even perform on par with what other manufactors nhave to offer. The future looks poor.
They need introduce new engineers. New marketing.
First
no i was
AugustJamesD No I WAS!!!
Rip off I would never buy an elr
That's a piece of crap
You can get a much better car for $80k. Wow...
I sold Cadillacs....c.u.e. Sucks.
this thing looks hideous.
The 1st gen Volt looks better IMO
I would rather get a tesla then this piece of shit
