- How to Replace the Valve Cover Gaskets on your 2001-2006 Lexus LS430, sorta. The valve cover bolts are torqued down to 53 Inch Pounds. Make sure it's not foot pounds! Hopefully this helps someone out there! I can make more videos but I need your support, if you use the amazon links below it helps support the channel!
I used an ishino stone gasket part # JVS 10451
Besides an assortment of different 10mm sockets and ratchets. these tools are good to have for the project.
A good light like this:

Or Magnet like this:

And a small torque wrench, this is the same one I used in the video:

My ls430 has 461,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ. Watched your videos on how to do valve cover gaskets and lower ball joints and a couple more. Big help thanks for making these videos. Not many how to videos for the ls430 but its a great car. Like i said over 460 k miles on mine and still running strong.
Would be interested to hear more…how often you’re driving, maintenance, etc
mine has 217000 miles on it. original engine & transmission, never opened the valve covers though they r leaking a bit & never opened the intake manifold ( thanks god the starter is still alive!)
461,000 miles. Wow! I was 208,000 on mines and did an engine swap to avoid that kind of mileage. These cars will run forever I see.
The car has done 510,000 miles and the engine is still in good condition
Thanks for showing us LS430 enthusiasts how it is supposed to be done.
Excellent detailed video, thanks for posting!
yo Ive watched a few of your vids now and I gotta say man you have great content. I see its been a while since you last posted and I hope all is well but create more content my guy!
Hey S2k, great vids. I was inspired to start taping some of my repairs so that I could also help others. I get so much from the sharing of knowledge that I hope I am able to give back to the community. Anyway, I have a 2001 LS430 (love it BTW). I recently purchased an 06 lS430 and will be selling my daily driven 01. I just happened to be standing next to the 06 and placed my hand on the fender after about 3 minutes of running and IT....WAS....HOT! I could barely hold my hand on it near the headlights. Did not recall my 01 being this hot so I checked fender temp with a digital thermometer. The 06 registered about 130 degrees at the front of the fender. Checked the same thing on the 01 and it was barely warm to the touch and measured about 107 degrees. Have you ever noticed how hot the fenders get? BTW, the vehicle temp on the gauge was a normal reading. Im just curious. I will be baselining the new purchase in the next few days. Seems a bit high. Your thoughts?
Bending those tabs looks dangerous 😳
this is extremely helpful. will be doing a valve cover job asap once my gaskets come in next week.
keep up the vids. will look for more vids in case I need to tackle another job. It should be the same for the GS430 hopefully
Was it the same for gs430?
@@hommie269 it was. Same motor for both cars.
Where did you buy the valve over gasket? Would love a recommendation on a vendor. In united states.
@@sidekick.toolsadmin9196 eBay but looked for specifically OEM
Nice video brother.... More video on LS430 please 😊
Thanks for sharing...a PITA job but, well done!!
Another question is when you place the valve cover with the new gaskets back in, do you have to use some sort of stick or screw driver to wedge/push the spark plug tube gaskets to make them wrap around the metal tubes to prevent leaks? Thanks.
nice job 👍
3160$ just got quoted from local shop, that's a lot. Prob do it myself.
Thanks for great vid
That shop is trying to rip you off it shouldn't be more then 800$ max
@@wolf1597 got it done at a reputable shop for 400$ sourced my parts. NYC
@@wolf1597 that’s what meneike charged me 841
@@wolf1597 I’m from nyc also, can you refer me to a shop?
How similar is this process for the LS400? I have a '97. Thanks.
Good video! Have you tried AT-205 before this?
I tried this and the gasket was kind of hard to install without it falling off the cover. Any help?
Does anyone know if the shims on a 2005 LS 430 adjust themselves or not? Took my car to a Toyota dealer and they replaced the valve gaskets and the card made a horrible noise and now they said I have to have my shims adjusted. I thought they adjusted themselves. Can anyone please help answer this question?
How do you get the new washers on the bolts
Big fan! Can you recommend a vendor for the JVS 10451? Looks like you also replaced the PCV Valve.
I did replace the pcv. I wanna say I ended up buying it from partsgeek.com
Why not just put the old spark gasket over new one then hit
If I don't rtv will it still leak
did you remove the Halfmoons?
I replaced mine now I have an oil leak on the TOP of the valve cover. Where could it be from? Spark plug deals?
Same here. Any luck finding what happened?
Where do you buy this from?
Are u by any chance in the San Francisco Bay Area? Like Milpitas or San Jose
I'm in SoCal, LA area.
@@theantgarage awwww too bad seems like u are really good at this. Im tightening mines today and lemme tell ya the bolts were super LOOSE!!!!! Had a lot of oil leaking
Wait, I thought you said you didn't have to remove the bolt for the oil dipstick, then later in the video you said you needed to replace it. Can you do the driver's side without removing the oil dipstick bolt?
You can without the Valve cover without removing the bolt. But later on I ended up taken the bolt off so when I reinstall the valve cover it doesn't snag on anything.
Not a bad job at all, took me 2 days to change valve cover gaskets on my Volvo V8
Bro I just did this and my passenger side gasket blew as soon as I cranked it on. Help
You very seldom have to replace the valve cover gaskets. They are very durable. If you have a leak most of the time the bolts are loose. Using an inch pound torque wrench simply tighten them. Problem solved.
Only works for so long. Both my LS430 and ES300 are leaking from both heads. Just an age thing I guess
If your going to make a diy video tk help people know the names of the parts an don’t say I’ve hear something needs to be removed an say your not going to. 4 times you called the valve covers intake manifolds smh. Poor mechanical knowledge don’t use this couple your own vehicle needing work done
It’s kinda a pain in the ass😮😮 I’m rethinking my plans for the day
Do I have to take off the intake to finish this Job?
