  • How to Replace the Valve Cover Gaskets on your 2001-2006 Lexus LS430, sorta. The valve cover bolts are torqued down to 53 Inch Pounds. Make sure it's not foot pounds! Hopefully this helps someone out there! I can make more videos but I need your support, if you use the amazon links below it helps support the channel!
    I used an ishino stone gasket part # JVS 10451
    Besides an assortment of different 10mm sockets and ratchets. these tools are good to have for the project.
    A good light like this:
    amzn.to/30Q52Vm
    Or Magnet like this:
    amzn.to/301ndIj
    And a small torque wrench, this is the same one I used in the video:

    My ls430 has 461,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ. Watched your videos on how to do valve cover gaskets and lower ball joints and a couple more. Big help thanks for making these videos. Not many how to videos for the ls430 but its a great car. Like i said over 460 k miles on mine and still running strong.

      461,000 miles. Wow! I was 208,000 on mines and did an engine swap to avoid that kind of mileage. These cars will run forever I see.

    Hey S2k, great vids. I was inspired to start taping some of my repairs so that I could also help others. I get so much from the sharing of knowledge that I hope I am able to give back to the community. Anyway, I have a 2001 LS430 (love it BTW). I recently purchased an 06 lS430 and will be selling my daily driven 01. I just happened to be standing next to the 06 and placed my hand on the fender after about 3 minutes of running and IT....WAS....HOT! I could barely hold my hand on it near the headlights. Did not recall my 01 being this hot so I checked fender temp with a digital thermometer. The 06 registered about 130 degrees at the front of the fender. Checked the same thing on the 01 and it was barely warm to the touch and measured about 107 degrees. Have you ever noticed how hot the fenders get? BTW, the vehicle temp on the gauge was a normal reading. Im just curious. I will be baselining the new purchase in the next few days. Seems a bit high. Your thoughts?

    Another question is when you place the valve cover with the new gaskets back in, do you have to use some sort of stick or screw driver to wedge/push the spark plug tube gaskets to make them wrap around the metal tubes to prevent leaks? Thanks.

    Does anyone know if the shims on a 2005 LS 430 adjust themselves or not? Took my car to a Toyota dealer and they replaced the valve gaskets and the card made a horrible noise and now they said I have to have my shims adjusted. I thought they adjusted themselves. Can anyone please help answer this question?

      You can without the Valve cover without removing the bolt. But later on I ended up taken the bolt off so when I reinstall the valve cover it doesn't snag on anything.

    @t.l.robinson2162 Před 3 lety +2

    You very seldom have to replace the valve cover gaskets. They are very durable. If you have a leak most of the time the bolts are loose. Using an inch pound torque wrench simply tighten them. Problem solved.
