Slovakia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest seven times, debuting in 1994. It had attempted to debut in 1993, but did not pass through the qualifying round. In the first three finals that Slovakia participated in, it placed no better than 18th, which it achieved in 1996. Because of its poor results, Slovakia was relegated in 1995 and 1997, and eventually withdrew in 1999. The country returned in 2009, although they withdrew again within four years, having failed to qualify for the final every year since their return.

Definitely a country that suffered from not having neighbors to uplift them in the voting unfortunately.
As a Slovak, this still sometimes hurts When you know your country isnt participating. BUT, we have a new star here in SLOVAKIA-ADONXS and participating in Eurovision is his big dream. Plus he lives In Prague, so if he decides to represent Czech republic, at least you will see our biggest talent. Thank you for listening to our songs, especially Horehronie - it was ahead of its time 🇸🇰❤️😪
Since Slovakia has been quitting the contest for so long, people lost their interest and the broadcaster didn't care about it no more then the chance for him to represent Slovakia aka his own country is quite small. But if he wish to compete in ESC and wanna represent Czech Rep. then let him do that. He might not only represent Czech Rep. but also people as they know he's from Slovakia then they will see he's trying to represent both countries at the same time :)

Why they kick out slovakia?
I think that Amnestia na neveru would have been Slovakia's best result. It maybe could be a little motivation to participate between 1999-2008
Absolutely. And they just failed to qualify by one single point. I don't think, they would have won, but a Top 15 result was quite possible. And maybe it would have encouraged them not to go on a hiatus after being relegated.

1993 song was huge hit in Slovakia and could've been great place in ESC... if it wasn’t eliminated.
For those that do not understand the lyrics of Horehronie, it is a song about one area in Slovakia that is really beautiful, and the text is about how the singer likes it there, and goes there when she is sad, nervous, etc.
You may not like, but i love "Horehronie" before i know that is a esc entry.

Despite their rather disappointing results in the past, I still hope that they're gonna return to Eurovision. Maybe not this year, or next year, but in a foreseeable future. But hopefully still in the 20s.

I'm from Slovakia and i dont understand people who complaining about 2010. This song was stealed from North Macedonian singer. It was a big deal in Slovakia as copyright. On the other hand 2011 is mine favourite. With muted version of course.
