What's up everyone?! I hope this overview and tests of the Hollyland Lark M2 were helpful. Did I cover what you wanted to know? What else did you want to see or learn about?
Would love to know what you think. Is this a system that you would use and why or why not. If you’re currently using something else, please share your experience with me. I am grateful in advance 🙏
Being an 1980s video production specialist, this kills me! This complete setup would replace over 100lbs of equipment!
YOU’RE SO RIGHT!!!
That noise cancelling comparison was crazy
Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback!
Probably the best review I’ve seen of this product from all the video that I’ve seen. Good job my dude. I’m tempted to get this for my classroom. Especially for the kids who like to shoot video on their phones.
Oh wow - that means so much!!! Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is very thought-provoking for me. I have the Hollyland Lark Max, but having this in my kit solves a lot of other issues for doing field recording. Just gives me more options depending on the situation. The combo kit is at a very decent price and worth every cent in my book. I love the sound from my Hollyland Lark Max and the M2 sounds the same. How can you go wrong? BTW M2 demonstrated an impressive performance in your range test. Life can be good without wires and these mics. Hooray to Hollyland for providing these tools.
Thank you so much for watching and for the insightful comment 🙏🏻. I appreciate you for being part of the channel!
Greg as usual I loved this review !!! Your reviews always provide the best I mean the very best non biased reviews . Keep up the amazing reviews
Oh wow - thank you so much for the kind words and support!
I just recently bought both the osmo pocket 3 and the hollyland m2, and grateful for coming across your video that shows it’s compatible for the pocket 3. From the countless other pocket 3 videos I watched trying to find out if it was, yours answered my most wanted question in regards of it working. Keep up the great content!
Congrats on the new cool gear! Glad the video was helpful! Thank you for being part of the channel!
@@TechGearTalk My pleasure and thanks for the informative video. How can i reduce the gain once the lark m2 is connected on the osmo pocket. I noticed its too loud.
@@BeyondGraphxyou should be able to do that in the OP3 settings I’ll test it out.
Excellent review!
Straight forward, clear and no useless babbling.
I am impressed with the improvement of these kind of wireless mics.
I was listening through my headphone and I already know that the noise cancelling option will not work for me. The sound is a bit quirky when turned on.
Thank again for this great review.
Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback. The progress has been great for creators and it’s now easier than ever to get better psoduction value.
Great vid. If you only have the bundle with the camera receiver can you also use it on a phone with usbc cable?
This kit looks amazing!
Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts!
I LOVE the Lark M2! It makes audio so easy and I don’t have to worry about the quality too much. I have a feeling this will already replace my run and gun mic.
It really does simplify things. I appreciate you watching.
That sounds absolutely fantastic 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and for providing input!
Love the form factor, but note that only the camera receiver is stereo (and only when using the 3.5mm jack). All USB-C and lightning options are Mono-only, panning the microphones to the centre.
Because you cant record on device, this means you CANNOT seperate the two microphone channels.
Thank you for sharing!
That's good to know, and honestly sucks. There don't seem to be good options for the average phone which does not have a headphone jack these days. I have 2 Android devices and the USB c to 3.5mm for Rhodes doesn't freaking work anymore.
I don't know if my mic is defective for that purpose. The weird part was it was working initially and then just stopped. Read online people had similar issues and suspected it was actually an android update that is yet not acknowledged...I just want to be able to easily get some half-ass better audio from my phone to record videos on, emphasis on easy (otherwise if I quality was the biggest factor I would whip out my actual video camera).
Suggestions, anyone?
Nice review.
Could you please test with connecting it to Mac device?
Is this mic operate different on a Mac device?
Does it supported?
Great video man …
I got the neweer cm28 system as a gift it’s almost the same and audio like is a game changer for the video..
CONGRATS on the new gear!!! So glad what you got is working for you. Thank you for the kind words about the video 🙏🏻
Such a great combo with the insta360 link webcam, perfect meetings kit
That's a great call!
Thanks for the excellent review.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and for being part of the channel!
Such a great video!!!! So informative!
Thanks so much for all the help!
thanks a lot, i take it !! Your review is fantastic
You’re very welcome. Thank you for watching and for the kind words.
Thank you for the video!
Hope it was helpful. Thank you for watching and for being part of the channel!
Looks and sounds good. The tiny size is a great feature.
I appreciate you watching and taking the time to contribute to the community.
Impressive noise cancellation. I can see how this would be an important device for you to have in your kit.
I agree - super versatile too
Great review, thanks. I love the concept of how tiny it is and the phone USBC not needing to be charged. I'm looking for something to take long distance backpacking and this mic/usbc receiver, and the optional usba magnetic cable look like it might do the trick. I'd prefer to not bring the "heavy" charging box with me to save space and weight.
Glad the review was helpful. You prolly don’t need to bring the charging case if it’s a day trip. These things really last.
Great review!
This looks way better than the Rode2. The little receiver that just plugs into the phone, rather than Rode needing a damn cable to the receiver, which is then difficult to fix to a gimbal. The range is impressive. The fact the receiver uses power from the phone is another positive. I think I need this.
Thank you so much for watching and for insightful analysis. I agree that the cable to the transmitter is not ideal with a phone. I appreciate you for being part of the community!
i had the usb-c m 2 for a few days, but the dealbreaker for me was that it only records mono even if you’re using both microphones.
That is not the case if you attach the extra transmitter - which again would defeats the purpose of having a very compact system.
@@storiestellr do you mean that its not the case when you attach the camera receiver?
@@PeterAlanJohnson right - with the camera receiver it records stereo. I wish it weren’t so.
Can this transmitter be used in an audio mixer (MG10XU) with some sort of 1/4 adapter?
I'm very impressed by the concept of these tiny mics. I use the lark M1 and they are great, except for the way you attach the mic. it's front heavy and pulls forward on the neck of the t-shirt, if I turn it around the sound gets muffled. so I'm left with having to pinch the tshit and then clip on and just hope that the mic doesn't fall off when I'm active (I do metal detecting videos so I'm very active).
these tiny mics with magnetic holding looks just the job, BUT my only concern is the receiver taking power from the phone and draining the battery quicker. I think nit would have been better to have the receiver rechargeable. I think then it would be the perfect set up.
thanks for the review 👍
Thank you for watching and for contributing your perspective to the community! I appreciate you for being part of the channel!
Have you tried it as an interview mic? I've heard several people complaining that you can't split the audio, and both mics record on one channel and adjust levels.
Great review! Thanks!
Can I continue having my iPhone 13 Pro plugged into AC power through the lightening receiver that comes with the combo kit? I think it has a side port on the receiver for a lightening AC power cord but am wondering.
Excellent question - and something I missed in the review - there are usb-c charging ports on the sides of both phone adapters. Just to be clear - even the lightning adapter uses usb-c for constant power. Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words.
@@TechGearTalk Great to know, and thanks for the quick response! I’m glad I can still keep my phone plugged in the entire time while I’m using the receiver. 👍
The only major drawback is the lack of passthrough charging on the receiver. A must have IMO. I hope to see that in the updated version.
Hi. My two phone receivers have USB-C ports that work for passthrough charging. Hope that helps.
Such a great video ! Do you know if you can connect the USB-C phone receiver to the Dji osmo action 3 for a really compact setup ?
Thank you for the kind words!!! Since it works with the dji Osmo pocket 3 - my guess is that it would work with the action 3 - although I do not have one to test. I wish I could give you a definitive answer 🙏🏻
The only thing that I would complain about is not having a space for the USB and lightning receivers in the case. Just as a couple of slots. But that’s nitpicking. Great review.
That’s a good idea. They should sell a model of the case with that option.
Does this work with gopro hero 10?
Nice review. I love these little mics. My only con would be that you can't use wireless or wired headphones when using the mobile USB-c connections. It would be good to be able to get a level when using the mics while filming others. other than that, these are good.
Thank you for the kind words. That is a valid point. I wonder if they are targeting a user that really just wants the bare bones and wouldn't even think of manually adjusting levels.
@@TechGearTalk well not manually adjust the levels per se, but at least be able to simultaneously listen to what's being recorded while filming from the iPhone. You can do it while using the"Camera" receiver (because most cameras have a dedicated jack from headphones). But I haven't been able to do so with the iPhone while using apps like the Black Magic camera app or the native camera app.
Best review ever!!
So glad it was helpful. I super appreciate you.
Great! Thanks for making this video. Looking to buy my first mic so really tempted to get this particular one... All the other wireless mics I've seen are far too BIG and seem really heavy when attached to clothing. Must be really frustrating to wear :/
So glad the video was helpful! The small size and light weight are definitely advantages of this system!
Great review! Any experience with dropped recordings?
Thanks so much!! So far I’ve had no issues.
Cool comparison video. Thanks. Being in New York, I kinda expected someone to try to steal your gear when you walked away, but maybe ive seen to many 1980's movies! hahahha Seems ontop of the shoulder would be best for the mic if you are walking far away as it would work/pickup walking to and from the camera/receiver..... but who actually walks away that far? It's just a non issue
Thanks for watching! I was in Cleveland - but I had someone with me who stayed with the camera - I would NEVER leave it alone.
if it had internal recording. i would have sold my wireless go 2 for it. the lark is a such a great little size
Being able to have backup is a really nice feature. I wonder if they had to sacrifice it because of size.
Did your phone just automatically pick up the sound? I've put it in an Xperia z5 and the holly land app shows it's installed but when I run my camera video the sound is not picked up. Did you ever try using a phone and did you download a thrirdy party app for that?
It's a great vid! How do you compare this to Rode Wireless Go and Rode Wireless Pro?
Thanks so much. I have not yet - but very quickly, those mics have some really nice features - and it would come down to whether you want the smallest transmitters or more advanced controls and features. For a lot of users, this is a really nice plug and play system.
could you use multiple receivers at once if you are for example filming with multi cameras like a GOPRO and S23ultra at the same time?
I don’t think so. But you could use the scratch audio from the camera without a dedicated mic and sync in post
I just bought the Lark M2 usb type c but cannot get audio to record to video. The blue lights are solid, showing signal connection. Just can't get it to record. I plugged in the case overnight directly to the back of hte mac. The phone is an Android Galaxy A21 model SM-A215W. Any thoughts on what be going on? Edit: Also want to add, that the manual says to double click the yellow button on the receiver to start recording. What happens when I do that is the lights on the transmitters and receivers turn green (off) and no video is recorded.
Wow, the pixel 8 pro's video looks WAYYYYYYY better than those other 2 phones. Why does the iphone and Galaxy give you such a fuzzy outline?
At time 2:50 you are using the Pixel 8 Pro with LarkM2 without noise canceling, why do i hear the ambience in stereo although the LarkM2 is in mono? Regards
Hi - I switched the audio to dual mono
One interesting question about Lark M2, can you use simultaneously one mic with camera receiver and one mic with the phone receiver, well, in different locations away from each other... this way one person from the team can shoot something and the other person shooting broll or something else.
I don’t think so. But I’m not sure you wouldn’t need it. For multi-track (example my videos use 4 cameras) - in the edit - I use the “bad” audio from the other three camera to sync with the main camera. And then only play the audio from the main camera even if the visuals are from camera b,c,d. Hope that makes sense.
biggest takeaway for me was that the pixel 8 pro internal microphone is surprisingly fantastic
Size and sound quality is amazing. Same as Dji mic2 or hollyland lark max quality but size matters for mics. Lark m2 transmitters do not annoy the person you record.
Thanks for watching! The small mic is really great.
What happens if you use multiple receivers at the same time? do all of them receive? or just the first receiver to pair with the transmitters?
I can’t imagine multiple would work - but I’d have to try.
This is great! And at a good price!
I appreciate you watching and sharing your perspective 🙏🏻
Can i connect the camera receiver output to any external speaker with 3.5 mm input and hear the voices from both the trasmitters in real time ?
I’m not sure. I never thought about that. I’ll give it a shot when I get a chance. I don’t have those type of speakers rn
7:22 haha.. you also deed a significant amount of exercise here.
🤣😂 yes
Can you connect the USB C version to a Mac to record directly off of it, and in this case do you need any other hardware?
Answering myself: Yes you can do this.
The portrait mode is not very impressive, it blurs the edge of your ears off.
And you're right, most people tend to forget audio is 50% of video, or even a tad more, seeing how many people just listen to CZcams videos playing in the background, while doing something else.
Excellent point about many people only listening to CZcams. Thank you for contributing to the community 🙏🏻
Hi. I have a question. If I want to conect both of transivers at the same time to receiver, it is possible? Thank you in advance!
You can connect both transmitters to one receiver - is that what you meant?
@@TechGearTalk yes. This was my question. Thanks and good luck!
Do you have the link to the deadcat or windscreen compatible with Lark M2?
Thank you for watching. It comes in the box.
Thank you! Excited to try this out. Ordered!
Thank you! Excited to try this out. Ordered!
Can this be used for Zoom calls? How does it connect to a macbook pro?
I believe you can connect the camera module to a Macbook - I would be curious about the USB-C one - need to test.
How strong is the magnet if you run or climb or jump?
It would hold. The magnet is strong and the transmitter is light - so I don’t see it coming off.
Cheers so much and the IPhone kills the A7s3 for both sound and video quality lol 😊❤
I appreciate the input 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
But 8pro is best on noise cancellation, re-watch the clip
At 2:50 it sounds exactly the same. The Pixel and the lark. Sounds like the lark wasn't functioning.
It’s definitely the least noticeable difference. I could see the change in the waveform but I’ll run another test.
I think it was different- but it seemed the Pixel has fairly lousy recording abilities, blurring the differences?
ALternatively perhaps the second mic was turned on, but was further from the mouth (because its mono, bith would then record)
Do they have a jack so you could connect a lav mic?
They do not. They would probably have it make it bigger for that
Without Combo can I connect to my phone's 3.5 audio jack?
You need the camera receiver for that. Curious, why do that when you can connect directly?
Is there a way to monitor/listen to the audio while recording?
Thanks for watching! If your camera had a headphone jack.
@@TechGearTalk ok true, thanks. Then on an iPhone I guess through the app and listening before recording to check levels
Was the Pixel 8 Pro audio messed up? The internal mic sounded pretty close to the lark m2 audio. The lark m2 audio didn't sound anything like it did on the other phones.
That’s what I heard too. I’ll do another test.
Best audio settings for Sony cameras?
I typically, lower the gain on the camera as much as possible so I'm not using the preamps as much - and then let the microphone do the heavy lifting.
sounds like you are modulating your voice when testing the options.
Thanks
I super appreciate you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hope the video was helpful.
Does it allow audio playback in phones while the rx is plugged in all the other phones?
Hi. Yes - it did with all the phones I tested.
No built in recording right?
You’re right. That feature is not available with this set. Hope the video was helpful.
Is there windscreen for this device?
Thanks for watching. I want to make sure I understand - you mean a different one than the one I do a demo of?
Lovely 😊
Glad you liked it!
hollyland lark m2 internal recording available?
Thank you for watching. No, there is no internal recording.
Its working very well in asus rog5s phone ?
I don’t have that phone to test - but I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
Pixel 8 Pro internal audio sounds very similar to the m2…
I wonder if something went wrong. All the other tests were distinctly different.
Of all the great things they figured out with the Lark M2... they put no thought into the dead-cat/wind-screens. They're the worst. They cover everything!... Including the button on the mic. It's like after they finished designing it, the windscreen was an afterthought. Disappointing. The other thing is the case has no room/place for the plug-in receiver(s)... or the windscreens (of course). Other than those two things, they're awesome.
Having an opening for the button would have been clever. Good thinking!
If it work coonect lithaning cable for recording audio
I didn’t understand. Can you ask again please.
Can i connect a cable to record a audio 😅,, I think he is in wrong room
