  • Instead of having a contractor replace our entire vanity or spending too much money buying a new vanity, we did another DIY project and show how we replaced our vanity top and sink.

    We were stressing out about some miscalculations we made and were not sure how it was going to work out. Years from now when someone renovates the vanity again, they are bound to say "What in the world did Poor Man do?" LOL!!!

      Truth is... I cut the width and installed it before I realized the depth was a problem. Since I cut it, I could not return it so we had to make it work. Turns out, things worked out well!!

    I saw you cut the back of the countertop off and then all off a sudden the back splash was on. I would of liked to see what you did

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před rokem +1

      Mr Paul, you are absolutely correct. I definitely did a poor job there. It is a bad excuse but often times when that happens, it is because I forgot to record or I did not actually hit record when I thought, or... I was lazy. Just to summarize as best I can, the countertop was too deep so I measured how much needed to be cut and I remove that amount. The original top was a single piece, that included the backsplash, I cut off the top portion of the backsplash and after I cut the countertop to make it fit, I just layed the newly created backsplash on top. I do apologize for the confusing video. We do thank you for watching and for taking the time to point out our error. We learn from our mistakes (I hope!)

    I may have missed it but did you show how you cut the backsplash and the other pieces that were too long? Did you use the original backsplash piece that was attached?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před rokem +2

      We are sorry for not doing a great job showing everything in detail on this project. To answer your question, the entire sink was too big so we cut off the backsplash first. We then cut off some excess to get the sink down to a size we needed. We then attached the original backsplash as if it wasnt a connected piece to begin with. The sidesplashes were purchased separately. I hope this helps but if you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask and we will do our best to try to provide you with a proper resolution. Thank you so very much for watching our video!

    what tool was used to cut through the caulking to remove the countertop from the wall?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 11 měsíci

      I use a razor blade to remove caulk. If I am not mistaken, there is a product (gel type substance) that you apply to caulk and it dissolves it but I ca not sure how toxic it is.

    you never mention what the vanity top was made of. why?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 11 měsíci

      As mentioned in the video, I picked up pre-made counter tops from the lical big box store. It appears to be made of a dense particle board and a thick laminate. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
