One of the best advice pieces I've seen period. Thanks man. I have a shedload of friends with different views and experiences and all have strong opinions on right vs wrong, ceramic vs ppf, etc, etc. I've always been a fan of protecting the whole front end and high impact areas and then "drive it like I stole it" so it's refreshing to hear someone point out that it's not the end of the world if you don't have a 5 step pristine ceramic application done in a hyperbaric chamber. Thanks man! You've done a service to car lovers and "DRIVERS". Keep it up

Didn't have a chance to watch the video yet but have to give my professional and personal experience POV. Just recently bought a 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo which had clear PPF installed from the factory on the front thirds of the fenders, hood, the complete headlights, and just about the complete front bumper, as well as several areas on the sides and rear of the vehicle. I have to say I was blown away at how well it protected the factory finish. 14 years later and 150k miles and when I remove the ppf the paint underneath is pristine, nearly perfect with the exception of two or three spots on the front bumper that were hit, not stone chips. Even the headlights are like brand new. I have over 30 years experience as a collision and refinish Tech and if I had a Corvette or a show car I wanted to drive on the street, I would DEFINITELY have to install PPF.

Very informative video! When I bought my 2017 Vette last week I was surprised to learn when I went and looked at the car that the previous owner had a clear plastic wrap installed over the entire car. I can tell you from real world personal experience that I did not pay any extra because it was wrapped. I didn't give a funk if it was wrapped or not. The bottom line for me was the condition, factory options and miles. My criteria was that I wanted a '17 or '18 red Z51, under 10k miles with zero Car Fax issues in showroom condition. I had it narrowed down to 2 cars they were almost identical and about the same price. I did an extended test ride and bought the one that ran slightly better. I'm old school!

I did my own ceramic coating on my two classic Mercedes. ‘75 450SEL and ‘80 450SL. I had to do two stage compound buffing first because there was slight scratches on them. I am very happy with it! I maintain it with Mother’s CMX spray.

My 2006 Z06 had a PPC on the nose. As you mentioned Chuck, you could see the edge on it. It was horribly noticeable, but enough to bother me. Besides that, I had a concern that over time, the PPC might either discolor and/or harden, or that it may cause discoloration if the paint (due to its UV protection characteristics). So I ended removing the PPC, and then did a total car paint correction, followed by applying a ceramic coating -- all by myself, in the garage. Took a few days, but it was worth it.

Just spent some down time applying ceramic coating on My C 7, Z06. Easy to apply, amazing results and the best shine one could ever expect.. In fact, I was so happy with the result, I even applied it to my Bowrider boat. The boat comes out of the water at the end of the day almost dry. 10/10 for our family

Chuck my first two vettes I hand waxed the hell out of them. The dealer saw the second one after I got finished and said he should have charged a higher price. My current vette I had ceramic coated. It always looks like I just waxed it, even when I know it needs a wash. I don't have as much time to wax as i used to so this is a great alternative and it gives added protection to the paint.

Good analysis. I was raised about a half block from a guy who was on the Allison Brothers pit crew in Birmingham. I hung out there with the older boys and was a goffer while they worked on their cars. So, I got to work on and ride the old original Vette, the Shelby Cobra, and many others. Even helping in installing a flamethrower distributor on the Colba. I don’t remember the emphasis on the glossy paint and finish that seems to be hot these days.
I’m on my second Z now. (A new 78 280Z and my current 04 350Z). Just installed custom upholstery and this week I’m getting it back from the body shop with a new crimson- metallic paint job. I’m still deciding which coating to use, but I really appreciate the vid!

Chuck, you're right, that's 100% a personal preference. I chose Xpel for my Z06. The area that I was worried the most was the quarter panels. The Z06 will kick rocks at it and I felt and still feel, Xpel is the best protection for that. So far so good I guess. Now, you say you can always tell if a vette has that or not... Well, I dropped off my car in the morning to be Xpelled, and when I went back the next day to pick it up, I thought they didn't get to it. I had to touch the car to feel it. Not to mention that I'm extremely observant. So, maybe you haven't seen a really good Xpel job. ;-) Can't wait to see your new vette.

Good video Chuck. If I remember correctly ceramic coating and paint protection film serve two different purposes? PPF is to protect against rock chips and ceramic coating is for helping the car stay cleaner longer, easier to clean, and acidic contaminants. Anyway, they are both good depending on what you want to do.

PPFed my 2017 Z06, used Sun Tek. Did entire front bumper, front fenders, hood, headlights, mirrors, windshield posts, front eight inches of roof, doors, rockers, side skirts, rear fenders and area of rear bumper on side of car. Basically everything except trunk deck and rear bumper area at rear of car, even had the door area at kick plate. Bought my car used in July 2019 with only 1595 miles on it, still had new car smell. No damage at all, felt like you said, I had to protect my investment. Felt the film would give me the best protection, total cost done professionally was $3945, plan on keeping this car for quiet a while. My first and last Vette and yes, I Love It.

I used PPF for the front of my Corvette, not the hood, and ceramic on the remainder of car. Could not be happier with the two products, the PPF keeps the rock chips in Check and the ceramic coating is awesome. The detailer said us corvette guys take such good care of our cars, low mileage and garaged, the ceramic coating could last many years. Mine has been on my car two years and looks as good now as day one! A combination of the two really protects your investment!

Thanks Chuck! Another perfectly timed informative video for me! My car isn't here yet but I've been wrestling with the PPF v Ceramic coating quandary and ultimately decided on the coating for the same reasons you outlined. I think it just looks better. Question: on the Black Mamba you used Ceramic Pro 9H and on Fearlis you went with Gyeon. Did you notice a difference, was one better than the other? I found a local guy who will put 9H on mine for a reasonable price. But, now there is this new ISM product you will be using, so the plot thickens! Your content is fantastic, i learned a bunch…eventually. I would just recommend you get right into it for those of us with really limited time and attention span, like me. Thanks again.

I put the Gyeon Syncro on my ZO6 and PPF on the bumper, mirrors and door coves. On my Zr1 I did PPF A pillars forward and mirrors going to do Gyeon on the whole car now when I get a free weekend soon. I love the ceramic coat it makes the paint look like glass no wax can get to that shine, that I have found., As for the PPF I am like you don't really like the look but it does help with the small rocks. I have never seen a PPF job that you could not tell always a small bubble or two or three in there and at least a couple pieces of dust under it somewhere just no way around it but I must say I got about as good a job on my Zr1 as you can get in Alabama Tennessee area anyway great topic Chuck see you next vlog.

Chuck, I had the ppf and then the ceramic. I have to say I cannot see the ppf at all and the shine is amazing. I think some of it may be the installer and the other is the quality of product.

I use a ceramic on my C7, but I prefer a “ceramic light” product like CanCoat or TAC Systems Moonlight. I find the appearance and behavior to be identical to a full blown ceramic. The difference is the longevity of its durability. With a ceramic light, I can expect up to 9-12 months of protection. I am the kind of guy who likes to put a polisher to my Stingray on a yearly basis using an ultra fine polish like Menzerna 3800. Using a ceramic light gives me the opportunity to jewel the paint every spring, just about the time when the coating needs to be reapplied. If I used a full blown ceramic coating, it lasts too long for my liking and hinders my ability to polish more often.

Chuck I did Feynlab ceramic on my 2010 C6 and what a difference. 3 year warranty. They have a self healing 5 year also. Really like the finish. Anyone from Central Florida can call Ruddick’s Detail in Titusville

I went with PPF on my black car because it shows every scratch. One tip is to use a heat gun vs hot water. That works great when there is a scratch on the PPF. Yes, it will come out.

Hi Chuck, great video so glad you came back. I have a full PPF on my 2019 ZO6 and you can't tell where any of the seams are. I think a lot has to do with the installer!!!! The paint pops like crazy, but like you said it is plastic and nothing will ever compare to bare paint. I just think the PPF will take the initial impact better then the ceramic coating before it penetrates the clear coat and not chip the paint. Rather replace that piece of PPF when it gets so bad then touch up paint or a repaint will never match. Keep it coming loving all the content always
