- With so many brands out there, it might be hard to decide which PPF is right for you. So, here's a demonstration where we test the durability of XPEL Ultimate Plus, 3M Scotchgard Pro, STEK DYNOshield, and Avery Supreme Defense - just a few top competitors in the market - to try to help you out. Here, I tested these brands on my old Tesla rear bumper, so you shouldn't have any doubts about me going too easy on it!

We have a NEW durability test out, where we fix some issues that were mentioned here, such as the paint being a hard color to see all the damages -

If the hood has rock chips would that affect the satin black wrap look? Would it look like bubbles?
How do you guys only have 3.5k subscribers? You guys deserve at least 100k+ love your products and your videos very informative!
Videos like this is why I chose to send all of my aftermarket parts through Tesla bros. No bias. Just informative.
absolutely love your content and the way you deliver it!
thanks for putting in the work for making these amazing videos
Really appreciate this! I’m glad our content helps you!
Thank you very much for this review - amazing work!
Unfortunately we can't see much of anything with that paint color.
4k filming would've helped, but his discussion about the results helps.
@@rkgsd yes it helps
Deadass bro, should've done a black bumper so you could see the reflection 💀
Stek, is that suntek
@@deweyford7869 no. Stek is name
Great video! I think future comparisons would work better with a black painted bumper which will show underlying damage better. I have my entire car wrapped and ceramic coated with xpel and am super happy with it!
Good point. Will try to get a black one next time. This bumper is actually mine from a crash :D
How much did you get all done for and which car? Thanks in advance!
Very helpful! Just ordered 2023 MY and decided i definitely have to do PPF but I will have a shop install it.
Glad it helped! Congrats on your new ride!
Nice comparision and to the point
I think all PPF are really good 👍
Tried 3M and XPEL. I prefer 3M since it was easier to wash but it’s definitely a more labor intensive job to peel off compared to XPEL.
Thanks for the very informative video. Just leaving a comment to show support and appreciation for the time taken to do this
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you so much for making this video!
Love this experiment and video!
I love xpel. All my cars have xoel on them. I dont even wash my car regularly. But when i do, i know its going to shine beautifully every time
I have the STEK. man it beads water and dirt of a lot better than the rest of the car that has ceramic coating. love it
STEK has baked ceramic on the plastic makes it much more buttery than the other films
Yep. It’s a great film.
This video is very helpful since I will take delivery of my plaid in Dec, and they definitely deserve more subscribers!
3M is designed and engineered the best of this lot...great video
Yeah im going with 3M as well as their windows tint.
Been doing PPF for years. 3M is by far the worst film to work with and has the worst finish. Glue lines and imperfections everywhere.
Then what's the best for matte black ?@@truepatriot6969
What is the best film to use then?I have a new car i just got.thx@@truepatriot6969
I just put on ppl sunteck ultra it does cover everything. Heat heals. Rocks are rare. Not hitting directly like the screwdriver that was painful to watch. However it still protects and can heal. With permanent marker I wouldn’t even use water I would just go straight for the alcohol because that’s what they told me to do. If somebody keyed my car I think I would just hurt them. Lol.
Come on.
We need more videos like this. We don’t want to see all brands saying they are spectacular without any comparison
Excellent video..thanks for doing it.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the video, I live in Central WI where winter is real and gravel farm roads are very common, assuming I can find anyone who even applies PPF after watching your video I am leaning toward the 3M film.
If you have a Tesla Model 3, we have a DIY front kit out now. Check out the free guide at courses.tesbros.com :)
Love these true and tried experiments.
awsome tests!!!
I went with XPEL and a clear coat for the entire car. Only get it if you plan on taking care of your car and washing it on a regular basis. It's expensive, but well worth it.
Isn’t 3M better?
Honestly they’re all really good and a good installer will make it flawless and all installers have preferences. My personal favorite is Stek. But I’ve used many films including 3M hexis Avery XPEL suntek etc.
@@tesbros why is that so? Does it install a little more easier or better price?
How much did it cost u?
How is llumar? Any reviews on it?
Right after delivery I'll be getting a full wrap in STEK
You will be glad that you did!
Give it a nice coat of Halo ceramic coating also
NGL my heart hurt with every scratch and hit. This is really good info bro. Thanks for posting this.
This is great! I don't now there are not more videos on comparison test? People need to know which each are going to do for protection since none of this stuff is cheap
Love the comparison, would have been nice to see it on a darker color to see potential scratches.
Great point! We'll see what we can do next time
Also would love to see an unprotected section at the same time so you can see damage from nothing at the same time and you know force is the same.
Video is pointless/worthless because of the color. Keeps referencing, “see”… no we can’t see. Terrible video
@@tesbros I was thinking the same, black bumper next time would be better. Thanks for the test comparison!
@@rk702 in part 2, we wrapped the bumper black! czcams.com/video/oUc385Rplhg/video.html
We had Xpel full wrap with Xpel Ceramic on our 2022 Model Y. $6200. We wash the car with Xpel rinseless car wash and occasionally use Xpel Boost to keep the Ceramic and car looking AWESOME. Love this car and Xpel and no I am not associated with Xpel or installations of any kind. Just a 69 year old retired guy.
Wow that's a paint job price
That is a excellent price. A paint job would cost 12k
@@mikeprice8307 That's a maaco price.
Local xpel quoted me $7,800, now it’s time to reconsider. Thanks for this great video.
Glad it helped! Depending on the area, that may not be a bad price especially if they wrap around edges, has a lot of experience and for the full car. Doesn't hurt to shop around but look for shops that have a lot of experience. It takes time to get good at PPF especially.
@@tesbros my current car was wrapped at a place I found on yelp, they had good reviews but did a terrible job, and thus this time for my brand new tesla, I will bring it to the authorized xpel dealer in my area.
@@tesbros Does the other 3 brands have precut patterns?
Great video. I have a new Lexus which I have chosen the 3 m. Plus a EQE which they have used the 3 m. I wondered which was better,Time will tell .They both look nice and make keeping the cars clean a breeze. However both to fit were very expensive in Australia. But no more polishing every 4 months means more time enjoying the cars. And little daily use scratches come out with sunlight or heat gun makes it worth the cost.
6 months update?
That was great. I just got my Tesla a week ago. I'm prepared to spend way too much for PPF. Just so happens that there's an authorized dealer for XPEL in my area. Then, I saw your video. Googled for an authorized 3M dealer. Got one of them in the area, too. I'll get quotes for both, but likely going with 3M.
They are both great brands, so I would go with whatever shop has the most experience
@@tesbros Thanks. Make the appointment for 3M to be installed. ~$1800. Yuck! But, it'll protect my $55K investment.
@@pavels5600 1800? What did that cover?
@@Dawsomesauce Turned out to be $2100. Covered: front bumper, hood, front quarter panels, rockers (all the way back with a barely visible seam ~8” up), and side view mirrors.
@@pavels5600 bargain. Should’ve done the whole car!
Nice comparison, I went with Suntek Ultra again for the 3rd times in a row.
Heard great things about them! If you're happy, that's all that matters.
That's all my shop installs. Since xpel has trademark infringement on 3m, the only difference between the 2 is the polyurethane top. Xpel stole 3m adhesive.
BEST IN THE BUSINESS!
I was wondering if you would do the same with ceramic pros
XPEL Ultimate Plus Fusion has built in ceramic coating also.
Amazing!
Hey!!! I loved the video; it helped us understand what options are available. But I have one more question. How does a satin finish PPF affect the different performance specs of each brand? do all the brands have a satin/matte alternative to there PPF? does this change affect hydrophobic qualities and or scratch-resistant qualities?
We really like the matte look but would not go for it if it comes at the cost of certain performance drawbacks.
In other words, does 3M have a matte equivalent that works the same as its gloss PPF?
Matte and gloss PPF both have the same qualities! Not all brands have the matte option, but most do nowadays (or will soon). 3M does have a matte option. Here you can find 3M's specs for their matte pro series: www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b5005067101/
What are the differences in standard mm thickness for each? Or are they all the same?
These are all 8 mil, which is the standard thickness of PPF. You can get a thicker film if needed, but that would be for some pretty heavy duty areas.
3m G200 also has a hydrophobic layer just like stek and Avery. Are you using regular pro series?
Phenomenal video
Hi. Which one would you recommend Xpel or Kavaca?
Amazing comparison... I have an appointment for STEK Dynoprism PPF to be installed on a blue Model Y and I'm pretty excited!
That is awesome!

Xpel has the better Marketing tactics, My market is super flooded with xpel. I will offer whatever the customer prefers, but i will always carry Stek and Avery in house. Stek has the best customer service in my opinion, and that goes a long way! In the End they are all great. Its Built to protect. And they all do that.
I think having a control group would be nice to see the comparison
we added that in part 2!
Can you guys test Magnus Pro PPF vs XPell? Tnx
I don't have experience with Magnus Pro but happy to add it for future videos to test. So many out there now.
Hi, can the lacquer thinner works the same as the alcohol in removing the contaminated water stain on the PPF? As I read that alcohol is more prone to have a fire hazard, for your kind advice please, thank you!
Hi Max, I wouldn't recommend lacquer thinner on your car and we try to dilute even when using alcohol. The best way to prevent water spots is to dry your car every time you wash. If that doesn't work, try a waterless wash first before trying alcohol.
Thanks for the video the only thing I was hoping you would talk about would be the cost of each.
They’re actually all about the same price!
Benefited a lot!!
Great video!!! Its not all about the top brand xpel! Good job! New subscriber here! Cheers 🥂
Nice video. Thanks
What's about Legend Prime PPF? Does anyone has any experience or idea if it's good?
Wondering the same
Which one is the most affordable option in a matte variant. I'm looking at Avery Dennison. My buddy bought Xpel Stealth and we wrapped his model y. It looked sick, but I don't want to drop 3k on material.
Most of them are right about the same range between 1200-1500 per roll and that's for a 5 x 50 feet. What will cost a lot is the labor if you pay a shop to do it. But regarding material costs, it's a bit tricky because a lot of the rolls you can't just buy off Amazon. It's a bit of a complicated mess regarding distributors and etc. Most easily accessible for consumers would probably be like Hexis Bodyfence or Avery or 3M at a reasonable cost. Hope this helps! Didn't mean to over explain things lol.
Great video thank you. I have 2 options where i am. XPEL OR Skyfol Nano 2. Does anyone know which one is better and if Skyfol Nano 2 is any good?
Xpel has a great reputation. I use them quite a bit. I've never used Skyfol so I can't speak on that one unfortunately
Great video. I'm about to take delivery of my plaid is it overkill to do the whole car, or will the front and back bumper and hood and side-view mirrors do the trick
Congrats!! I would suggest doing the front package and side rockers. That would be the front bumper, fenders, hood, mirrors, & rockers. Those will definitely be the highest impact areas
@@tesbros gracias amigo!
Do the entire car with Stek film. Also add two coats of GTECHNIQ Halo. I had my Model Y done and it looks amazing. Easy to clean also.
Trust me
@@RayNLA where did you buy the stek film and how much for model y full coverage
@@hawkie2216 I just got full STEK satin PPF for $6k on my Y. Received a bunch of comparable or more expensive quotes too. But I also got full silver delete on interior blacked out and brushed black metallic trims and black gator skin PPF over wood dash, console, steering wheel, door inlays and charging port. Included blacking out the head and tail lights and fog lights with some other details here and there
Do you recommend doing ppf on your own? and for leased teslas?
We offer PPF pre-cut kits for you to be able to install yourself. Otherwise, like if you want a full or partial PPF done, unless you're trained in doing PPF, you shouldn't try to install it yourself. Definitely get a professional to do it, and then when your lease is up, you can get it professionally removed as well.
I have no any experience, what is the most PPF BMW M4 car owner like to put on ?
Just subscribed after watching this video. Some constructive criticism, could you please be mindful of colors that would actually show us the scratches. Also, I appreciate you leave it to to your audience to make a decision, however it doesn’t hurt for you to give more insight on your personal experiences, for example, have you wrapped one of your cars, what did you experience? Or interview and show us real people that have already wrapped their car and what they experienced. Still, this was awesome and I look forward to seeing more. Trying to figure out if I want to wrap my new BMW M4
Thanks for the feedback! We are putting out a part 2 video this week and we wrapped the bumper in black this time. Hopefully this will be much better than the silver for you all to see. These are all fantastic brands - I've used all of them. I think that if you have a good installer, these are all great choices. Installer quality really matters, esp in terms of how long it'll last
Any good place to get PPF done?
Do you recommend it on brand new car?
Absolutely! The newer the car, the better, because you won't have to do paint correction or touch ups like you might want to on an older car pre install. And there are great installers everywhere! I would check the reviews in your area.
When doing ppf on a Tesla model Y is there any seems anywhere or can it be done seamless?
The template does have a seam in the bottom lip but you can certainly do it seamless. It'll just have to be installed bulk which means using a large piece of PPF instead of machine cut.
any differences in ppf models intal to headlight or body? or same i use for both ?
You can use the same for both!
Thanks for sharing. 3M has been around for years. The U.S. military uses 3M on their helicopter blades. Which one do you sell the kit for?
Our PPF DIY kits are mostly Avery Supreme Defense
ppf is really hard if not impossible to find in bulk let alone as precut kits in the EU (outside of installers) for some reason, so I am pretty much limited to 3M and XPEL options for pre-cut kits (imported). I am suprised that 3M has a hydrophobic property since I cant find it anywhere in the specs on their site. I have heard Xpel is more forgiving but 3M Pro seems to be the better product overall. Is the film with hydrophobic properties even worth it or is it better to just apply a ceramic coat afterwards to get an even better result and does it interfer with the self healing property in any way?
If you're already gong to do a ceramic coating, I wouldn't worry about getting a PPF with hydrophobic properties. No, it doesn't interfere with self healing
I have the Xpel, do you know how long the self-healing is supposed to last? for any of them?
PPF lasts between 5 and 7 years depending on how well it's taken care of. It'll most likely have self-healing properties for the life of it, however, it might lose some of its effectiveness as time goes on. It's hard to give an exact answer as it all depends on how much the car is driven, car washing habits, and general wear and tear.
Is drive protected a good diy ppf using defender plus?
I haven't worked with defender plus, so I can't speak to that unfortunately
Hey just a heads up Xpel has Ultimate Fusion PPF. So it’s more comparable to the other coated films!
Yep! We are doing part 2. I have the new 3M film and the XPEL with the update liner release. Stay tuned!
Can you do suntek reaction please
What about Teck wrap PPF?
I am curious to know how the self healing properties of the film work with a ceramic coating applied on top of the film.
The PPF won't need to self heal if the elements can't get to it due to a ceramic coating. If scratches make it all the way to the PPF, that means that area is exposed, and it'll self heal.
What your advise regarding putting stek pro shield ?
Love STEK. Use it in the shop often.
Some long-time users were saying XPEL gets yellowish with the time.
A lot of the older PPFs used to, but the new ones have improved drastically
So which one is best? There is no hydro coating on the XPEL. Do you or can you add something to it? Thanks!
All of these are great. I typically use Avery or STEK, but you can't go wrong with any of these brands. Yes, you can add ceramic coating to all PPF to make it hydrophobic. I even recommend adding it to factory coated PPF as it will last years longer than the factory coating. You can DIY or have it pro installed. We like Gyeon Mohs Evo if you're going the DIY route. It's more forgiving than other coatings so it's easier to work with: tesbros.com/products/gyeon-q-mohs-evo-basic-bundle
What do you mean "it's not up to us to tell you that" regarding which fared the best? That's why we view content like yours!
What is the cost in terms of value to most expensive on these 4 for customers? Also have you all serviced the new Foaker Oceans yet?
Pricing depends on installer if you don't plan to do it yourself. The cost comes from color correction, chip repair, and labor of installing the PPF. Notice prices are regional and depend on how many installers in the area. Some installers use custom cut sheets and others cut from large roll and form to almost any size that needs protection. Find an installer that "tucks the seams" in cracks and around corners to help hide the film for an invisible look. It can cost $300-$700 for front end bra (headlights, side mirrors, front bumper), $1000-$1500 for entire front end (hood, bumper, fenders, headlights, side mirrors), and $3500-$4500 to do an entire sedan. PPF like Suntek and XPEL have a 10 year warranty.
Great test video! Man, gotta say that I'm a little disappointed in the XPEL. I have an X3M arriving in a few months and am pre-shopping for PPF installers. I've heard great things about XPEL and it seems that it's also the preferred brand if not exclusively the brand used by all the installers I've spoken to. But it seems to be the worse performing in this video. lol
Congrats! well i would say these are the top brands in the industry, and comparatively to all the brands out there, it's still a good one. We did an updated part 2 testing recently and added llumar to the mix. czcams.com/video/oUc385Rplhg/video.html Might be helpful if you're still unsure about XPEL. But let me know if you have specific concerns or questions about any of them and i'd be happy to answer
@@tesbros Thank you! Ah, Illumar is one that I've heard of before as well.

@@dandahl5964 good for you guys
Do most places buff and paint correct before PPF?
Yes, it’s a common practice for shops. You can apply without correcting as long as you prep it well, but that’s up to you.
You can buff out scratches if you'd like. If it's an extra cost though, feel free to pass up on it. Film hides a majority of swirl marks after application
Just subscribed love the content. Which PPF do you think is best for UV yellowing headlight protection? I almost went with spray clear coat but glad I waited now I’m thinking PPF wrapping it
I would say PPF is the way to go too. All the ones in the video are good and they have guarantee on not yellowing, but I use STEK and Avery mostly nowadays. And our DIY headlight PPF kits are cut from STEK: tesbros.com/search?type=product&q=headlight+ppf+&search=
Everywhere that I been searching, suntek reaction and xpel ultimate has been highest praise so far as best ppf
How did you not test suntek? It’s literally better than everything there
nice comparison but you really should have used a black panel for the demonstration cause we can't see anything on the camera ;o]]
also would have been interesting to see the same done to a uncovered part od the panel to actually see what damage was prevented
For part 2, we’re planning on doing both of those things!
What are the pricing of each?
Why didn't you try DuraShield?
nice test.. next time do some without film too.. so you know its the same force u used like for the ppf
Explain About Madico PPF
I've heard good things about them but I don't have experience with Madico so can't say much. Sorry!
Next time use a black panel it will show up better. Avery has been around back in 2007. Suntek & 3-M are the same. The newest is X Pel they use to use 3M before they had someone make there new film.
You want to do a real test get a front fender in a dark color cover 12" wide and pass a sandblaster over the PPF and the not covered. This will impress anyone looking to buy a C.B.
You forgot about ULTRAFIT. Super strong, the toughest vinyl I have ever seen. I wrap all my cars in it.
I haven't tried it, but we'll consider it in the next testing videos :)
Can you list them in order of easy installation 1 being easier to 4 difficult.
This is difficult because it really depends on the installer but a good installer will be able to problem solve and figure out a way to make it efficient. However, we installers have preferences. I personally prefer STEK and I like working with it but i've worked with many other brands.
@@tesbros that sound fair, I was looking for the DIY 1st timer. I like to try stuff first and if I do a terrible job take it to the Pros.

We started using hexis body fence. We used to use xpel, I'd just buy it a roll at a time from another shop, but xpel started cracking down on people selling it... i wonder how hexis will hold up.
How dows it install? I loved x pel because it installed the best bit i cant get it anymore either
@brocschugel1790 it's a little thinner, which makes stretching it easier. So far I like installing it better, we'll see how we'll it holds up.
Sir, is there anyway to tell the brand of PPF that was installed? I think I was catfished… I was told I purchased SUNTEK but the quality is below grade compared to my first Tesla I had PPF installed on. Thoughts?
That's a tough one. But most top brands like SunTek no longer yellow. So if it yellows or peels, I would check with the shop if they are certified with a brand.
@@tesbros thank you for replying. They’re certified with Xpel, SunTek, and 3M. SunTek contacted the shop and the owner said that he installed his own brand on my car. I paid $2,100 for a house brand PPF!! He prides himself on being the SunTek 2021 dealer but then sells his own brand PPF. Not sure what I can do?
I think I will go with 3m specially since it protected from keying so well
3M and STEK seemed best right? Pls rate them using points for each test n share.
STEK is what I like to use personally. 3M is great but can be difficult to use. Their previous gen PPF wasn't as forgiving, a lot of glue lines or lift lines. But, they just released their new film which is supposed to address all that. I should have a sample to test soon and will most likely do part two of this series.
@@tesbros how do i know if i'm getting the old or the new 3M PPF ?
Which brand do you guys use then? Just got the Y front bumper from you. Also price difference?
That'll be Avery Supreme Defense in our DIY PPF kits. The price of the high quality films in the video will be about the same. What will differ the most in price is shop location (area's cost of living) and their rates.
@@tesbros didn't know there was no tacky or skip solution in the package for this job. Where do I get that? Guess rest for job I have, 2 of these plastic scrapers. Last question, do I not try to round the ppf into the round edges of say lights and stuff? Remember Ryan from Kilowatts had his done self and it accumulated so much dirt right at the edge of ppf or vinyl cause he didn't remove the door trim and tucked it under? Will this be a problem, dirt magnet right at the edge of film? Thanks.
Since you only got the bumper, you have to buy the installation tools separately. Sorry for the confusion! The installation tool kit is 15% off right now with code ELECTRICJOY15: tesbros.com/products/installation-tool-kit-model-y-diy-kit
Good question but no it won't be a problem as long as the PPF isn't hanging over the edges. Make sure you install right inside the edge and not over. That's where the dirt catches.
In order of which is best, I would rate them:
1. STEK
