  • Professional Skimboarders Ride across a river of urban runoff. When the urban runoff starts to flow in to the ocean it then starts to form a perfect standing wave for riding. Last but not least we end the session with perfect skimboarding waves at the south end of Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach, California.

To answer Blair’s question about why you go farther in shallow water:
It’s called ground effect and planes experience this when landing. Something to do with the vortices of the wing tips reducing the amount of aerodynamic drag of the plane causing it to “float” on a cushion of air. I’m sure that the same mechanics apply in the water seeing as how both are technically fluids and the skimboard has rails that would cause vortices along the trailing edges much like a plane’s wingtips :)

@@SkidKids Jaime does alright with a twin fin, but just repeats the same maneuver over and over, probably trying not to pearl. On a side note it would be so effing awesome if you could pull off a jump from one river peak to another. You would probably need to rotate in mid air to properly orientate yourself, but you could land it in the flats right ahead of the second peak. Somebody is gonna pull that move sooner or later, and better you than Italo.

You are the one who should think… when you hastily make this happen on your own swashing water from side to side, versus allowing it to happen in its own, this causes more sand erosion than the normal process allows for. This also doesn’t allow for sitting water to percolate through the sand and soil into the ground. Those are normal processes, what you are doing is not. Trying to justify anything else is just that, a justification.
