Been doing this 20yrs, this is exactly right, although more recently I've purchased a good cordless drill and mixing whisk, waaaaay easier and so much faster. Still my least favourite part of the job though!

Thanks for the comment! yeah it can be very tedious after a while. That sound like a great idea.

Hi mate awesome video. just out of curiosity how much would you charge to repoint a patio I know it depends on what size it is but could I have a rough estimate could you give me an example

If all the joints are already completely empty then around £15per m² including materials. If thete is still old mortar to rake out then you're probably looking at around £25per m².

Being a DIYer with quotye a bit to get done in the back yards, , could I mix the sand and pour it out onto the patio while its still dry (before adding the water) then sweep the sand into the gaps, press it down , and then spray down the are with a hose?

Yeah you could do that mate, but I wouldn't do it with a hose pipe it will spray it all out, personally from experience I would mix it up with water but only a little bit of water, then point the joints. (You still want the mortar to be dry but wet enough so it sticks together or stays the same shape when you pinch it together)

Is it better to use building sand or sharp sand?

For small joints use building sand not sharp sand and do a 3 to 1 mix.

Rather than lifting the heavy bucket of water, just piss in the mix.
