Nice demonstration of bird beak pointing ! Good to see you still finding interesting trowels to try out amazing the amount of different trowels you get ! The fish looked delicious 👍 thanks for upload Andy
definitely plastering sand for jointing patios, that's my go to as fine enough for a good finish and don't have to worry about shrinkage and cracking especially when warm as you would with building sand and also definitely agree with using sbr, although nowadays everyone uses all to these premixed grouts which are great but before them you knocked up your own grouts and slurries which I still do as they work, you know your stuff Andy boy👍
Cheers Andy, very interesting video and birds mouth jointing is one that I never attempted, in paving or brickwork. As an aside, could I ask you when you got your tattoos done? Very old school! All the best.
Hi Andy , nice job .. what mortar ratio did you work with ..? I had my patio done about 3 years ago and it’s breaking up a bit .. and want to scrape out and re-do
@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 thanks going to give it a go this weekend … My knees are pretty shot .. so need to get some pads … Will let you know how it goes … thanks for the videos .. really informative 👍🏻👍🏻
Lovely job as usual Andy ,the cut down dustpan is a fantastic idea . You mention a 4 to 1 mix ,do you reckon 3 building 1 sharp and 1 cement would work well ? Also ,what type kneel pads are they ,Ive tried loads of different types and most of them were useless . Thanks ,all the best from Nick .
Hi Nick, yep that mix would be fine, you could go down to 3 and1 mix if there is a lot of traffic, the knee pads seem to be made by Mcalpine now but they were called something else when I bought mine, they are a bit clumsy but good.
I would have tested a few options on unlayed blocks before I started but my first method would have been to basicaly render them with the pointing mix then when it has picked up joint it up with a piece of slightly rounded stick, I would have them different sizes.I reckon then you could wash it all down the next day with a low pressure hose and brush.I this didn't work and it had to be washed down the same day I would try a tilers washboy and make the builder pay for the sponge floats.
4 to 1, no lime or SBR though adding a small amount of SBR wouldn't hurt. I've had problems with adding Hydrated Lime to pointing mixes with small shrinkage cracks appearing. Modern premium portland cements have so many additives there is no need to add lime.
@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 thanks for the reply. I'm redoing a sandstone patio with poor joints. I'm in-between a resin base like joint it. Or traditional sand and cement. Like you did I'm going to press it well down into the joints.
Love birds beak pointing makes all the difference , lovely job
Great video..hard on the knees..true professional at work..neat as always.. thanks Andy

Tasty work and grub can't beat that washed down with a few pints🥊

Ignore my first comment , I see what joint your aiming for now . 👍
Is the bird beak finish just for aesthetics or is there more to it?
Thanks
Yes but also helps blend it all in when the joints are all different sizes like this was.

Is that just sand? No cement mixed with it?
Sand and cement
Hi Andy
Love the video please could you tell the sand/cement ratio you used in this video and is it worth adding a plastisizer
Many Thanks
Russell
I use 4&1 with plasticiser some use 3&1👍
I got 30m2 to to do of this next month
A patio
Extension
👍🏻
Which car boot do you go to for the old trowels? The big one in south London (Vauxhall market) seems to have everything but the old gems.
Anyone really mate you just have to be lucky.
Andy. What ratio of mix do you use? Also do you add lime to mix or sbr?.👍

Flowpoint ?
good stuff flowpoint but love to see you doing birds beak pointing with it 😂😂
What’s the best sand/cement ratio…?? and is there anything else i should add…? thanks very much..👍
4 and 1 or maybe 3 and one if there is a lot of foot traffic, i find a little SBR in the mix helps.
@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 Thanks for reply..👍
I cut a 10mm wide slot two foot long in some square gutter it worked really well every one I made disappeared too soft I am
Yea that would work, I've bought a steel dustpan ime going to do the same to but I won't be back on that job again until after Xmas 👍
I bet by the time you got to eat that fish it was cold
I stay well away from patios terrible job bad back for a month
Yea I don't really do them anymore, this was local and I had plenty of help was the reason I did 👍
When you going to get back on bricks
Shortly hopefully 👍
My knees were aching watching you Andy 😖😆. When I get asked to point patios I tell them I only work on vertical structures.
