This is why I got a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Level 2 (Loaded) for $93k. It now has 87k miles and runs as perfectly as it did brand new. The truck is basically the same as a 2024 minus a few minor details, but in terms of appearance and performance, they are identical. Mine is my daily driver and is in excellent condition. I've also heard that the build quality of the 2021 model is better than the 2022, 2023, and 2024 models, so I intend to keep mine for a very long time and drive it a lot. I absolutely love this truck; it's the best daily driver in my opinion. It's amazing how many CZcamsrs have them as their daily drivers and say they will always own one. For the price you can get them for, considering how many Ram produced, it's an incredible deal compared to regular pickups that can cost up to $85k and are just ordinary trucks. I never thought these would appreciate in value, so I bought it to keep and take care of and drive the "Hell" out of it .

You get that thrill of buying it needing it wanting it, then all of a sudden, you start putting fuel into that tank and you're only getting 10 12 13 Miles per gallon around town. You can't stay on the freeway all day. That starts to burn a hole in your bank account. Then you start getting concerned and pretty soon. You're going to sell it? It's happened to me and my friends.. I fully understand what you are saying and it's sad, in current time, that the TRX is so expensive for it is an amazing truck. Not for everyone, if you tow, as work truck, etc. however most buyers should know this before considering purchasing a TRX. Gas mileage, buyers should know this again before proceeding with a purchase. I knew this was the truck I wanted, knowing everything just mentioned and yes it's my daily. My '22 Sandblast I purchased before it even came off the assembly line. Did I have to play the dealership game? Yes. Did I walk away from the sale 3 times? Yes. In the end I was able to make a deal, took advantage of the used truck market at the time, which basically paid for my TRX for the most part. Financed the difference and my monthly payment is $297.00. I plain on keeping this truck, especially now, until the wheels fall off. The Hellcat engine is something everyone should have a chance to experience before there are no more, it's unbelievable.

Spot on for cost of ownership. Tried to convince my son to buy a beater to go back and forth to work, that a big v8 truck is gonna have you paying almost as much in gas as the car note. He was determined to have a truck and bought himself a 1500 Ram 5.7 and found himself having to fill up every week if not sooner, driving about 70-80 miles round trip every day. Mileage might have been a bit better but he drove it with a heavy right foot. He finally swallowed his gotta have a truck machismo and started driving their family four door, four cylinder that was much more fuel efficient. If you can afford a car note and more trips to gas stations, then drive it like you stole and enjoy your car or truck.

I'm a huge fan of early Model Year Porsche and late 70s early 80s BMWs but new models from both these name plates are in some instances though definitely not worth the offer price truly amazing machines. Some bids on the Tesla Cybertruck are crazy high right now but i still think that massive machine will go back into full rate production. If Subaru were to get serious about creating a PHEV that might be worth a look if there was a BRZ version. Recent Chevy Corvettes are arguably the worst vehicles GM has ever made. I remember sitting in a brand new 1970 Ferrari and begged my Dad to buy it, but all he wanted to do is look at the piece-of-junk Fiat out in the back. I told him he could buy the Ferrari and he agreed. He said he could buy it, but he couldn't afford it.
I notice a lot of your episodes tend to deal with finances, so I wanted to ask a few questions of advice. As you mention, any new car depreciates the second the new buyer drives off the lot and is instantly upside-down on the loan. This puts the buyer in a position that if they lose their job, they could have the car repossessed and lose everything. Next, they're paying the bulk of the interest payments up front when the principal is at its highest and the payment can't really go to work reducing the principal for a few years into the loan.
One advantage of buying new is, in theory, one can order the car exactly the way I want it, so I'm not inclined to trade it in
So my philosophy evolved over time when buying new is to save enough to put at least 50% down on the car and finance the rest for 4 years or less. The payments even for the last 50% are pretty steep, but the principal balance goes down pretty quick. Once the car is paid off, the hard part is to avoid the temptation to sell it, and instead, take those monthly payments I would have been paying for the loan and put them into the bank or other investment instrument for at least another 4 years. That way the down payment for the next car can be at or above that 50% number for the new car.
Others I've talked with modified this scheme to save enough to buy the car outright. They had the unique situation where they had to lock their credit reports because their personal information was hacked on that government computer 20 years ago and they had to freeze their credit so no one could steal their identities via an ID theft ring. Sucks for them, but at least there's no money lost in interest on a loan and they can own the car outright from day one and not worry it could ever get repossessed.
Last, I actually wouldn't mind getting a Daytona EV once Dodge lets me place an order where I can configure it the way and color I want. How long do you think it will be before Dodge will get prices down to MSRP -$1000 and let me order one to my specs?
    Thanks!

Dealers decide the mark ups, so if you want to order just start calling around. When I ordered my Durango Hellcat most local dealers wanted $15-$25k over. Ended up finding a dealer 1.5 hours away willing to do msrp, placed my order over the phone w/ a $1000 deposit. 3 months later my Durango arrived

Unfortunately, chargers and challengers will not go up in value at least not for the next 50 to 60 years just like they did in the beginning, depending on how many are available at that point in time.

As someone who daily drives a raptor and only gets a little under 12mpg, these trucks will kill you in gas if you have to drive a lot. Fortunately I work very close to my house so I only feel up twice a month. But it makes a lot of sense why people don’t keep these trucks that long

You couldn’t give me a dodge product. There’s a reason why they call it Moe pig. So here is my dodge ram 1500 certified preowned story. Purchased back in 2009 preowned ram 1500, with a 5.7 L hemi. An engine, which is known to dodge to have certain inherent problems, which they obviously Chose not to fix. I purchased a truck used to reputable dodge dealer in the Daytona Beach area. As far as the dealer goes it was a great experience certified preowned. I got a great price on it. I think it had an 80 30,000 miles on it. Banker owned it who lived up in Palm Coast and drove, 5 miles one way to work. I know this because he did not remove any of his information from the navigation log. The vehicle was serviced by a close personal friend of mine who is a master tech at Dodge for 39 years. So he definitely knew the engine inside and out. That time I stayed current with the oil changes and the general servicing. The main things that had to be replaced in that truck, the AC core, I went with full ceramic brakes, and he turned the rotors for the very first time. I truly did like the truck it road well. It pulled my lawn equipment well and did what it was supposed to do and that’s work. I was hoping to keep the truck as it was soon to be paid off. Unfortunately, my mechanic let me know that the ticking that I was hearing under the hood, was in fact, the camshaft wearing out. Yes, I was getting the dreaded ram 5.7 L hemi cam tick. He mention most owners replace them between 123 to 130,000 miles. He went on to say that he was retiring from doing side work and that this would have to be something done by a dealer possibly. At the time my wife wanted to get a different car I said great let’s trade your car in and my truck in, and we did so. So the cam problem went down the street to somebody else. The mechanic went on to tell me that that is an inherent well known problem in that particular engine. I in turn wanted to know why in the hell didn’t the manufacture fix it. As far as Stellantis goes I hope they hit rock hard. They are constantly laying off people at this time.

Honestly I think MSRP is too high on some cars. Out of my 11 cars, some special editions, maybe 2 will go up on value. My 1994 Twin turbo Supra and my 2004 Porsche 911 with 114000 miles which I paid $13000 for. My 2007 Solar orange 350Z(500 made) and my 2008 Supercharged, JCW sidewalk edition, last of the 100 will probably not go up on value. My 69 conv. Corvette needs total restoration so im down already. Truly you buy a car cause you want it not as investment anymore. My lifted F350 Amarillo edition gets about 10 miles to the gallon.

Could get 60k if I ad on BAT etc. Wagonmaster is selling them for north of 100k now with lower miles. Compared to new GWs losing 30%+ within 1 year just like their platform mates TRX/ Rams. Some used vehicles are good investments money & enjoyment wise.🎉

I own at this moment a TRX -Charger Hellcat and Durango Hellcat. They all get very close to the same gas mileage-you’ll stop for gas less in TRX because it has bigger tank lol. But costs to fill it. I got lucky when i ordered my Durango Hellcat in 2021 because it was supposed to be the only year and mine was the second to last built & they didn’t have some parts left so they put a Dodge Ram gas tank on my Durango so it’s bigger. I also got a couple extra features because they had them laying around so put them in for free. So my Durango is kind of Unique unicorn. But then we all know they decided to screw Durango owners and bring it back- never trust Dodge and their numbered car scam and we will only make 1 year crap. I’d prefer they wouldn’t do that anyway-the Demon should’ve been every year with small tweaks every year. This whole gas thing is in peoples head. Most TRX buyers aren’t really Hellcat guys-they’re just Truck guys that want they big interior to carry ppl-so it’s why they turn them in because you do get worse gas mileage with 5 ppl always in your truck. People also struggle driving them because they’re very wide for road and staying in lane, hard to park and hard in some drive thrus . Not for me but for many. The other thing is the payment-once the newness wears off they get sick of the payment but it’s getting to the point if you look at other trucks in the lot most trucks are creeping to $100,000. When i got my TRX it was one of the cheapest trucks on the lot. I couldn’t believe it. The other thing that hurt TRX and ppl started trading their brand new TRX in for was when that New Jeep Grand Wagoneer came out. A lot of ppl traded in quick for that. A lot of ppl with Denalis traded in for it too. You could go pretty fast and carry a lot of people and get better gas mileage if you traded in any of these things for it. During Obama when he did this to our expenses and made our utilities and grocery and gas bills go up we had the same situation-i went to look for a Lincoln Navigator and walked onto lot and they begged me to buy one-the sticker was $54,000 and i got it for $34,000 without even haggling-they had not sold an SUV in over 1.5 months because of economy and there was an attack on SUVs if ppl remember and even back then the gladiator only got 12 miles to gallon with no supercharger so it’s amazing we even get that with superchargers now. At the time Hummers were still big and everywhere and guys start trading in because they had 9-10mpg plus you were made to feel uncomfortable because you had a big vehicle-same crap that is going on now. Ppl forget but everything going on now was exactly the same under Obama and ppl fall for it. Obama had all cars traded in crushed (cash for clunkers) if they were big. They screwed all junk yards back then by mandating crushing because Obama didn’t want you to get used parts for your car. That made the junkyards turn into monopolies-in my area of many millions of ppl in Florida all the junkyards got bought by one person back then and they aren’t really a junk yard and they take orders from govt to not have certain parts to fix your vehicle. It’s another reason why Copart was invented because they all own that place too. But insurance companies will total ur vehicle even if the airbag didn’t deploy because they want to crush them. We have to stop this control and monopolies made by govt -everything is a monopoly and small biz is being destroyed

2023 TRX with average driving and no big lead footing, 14mpg and running 91+ octane which is required...not my daily driver. Not a rich person just wanted to have the truck and enjoy it and don't expect it to increase in value, as I don't see the modern cars and trucks ever increasing like the older classics. Demand will never be like that and production numbers are way higher on modern and not sure they will decline in the amount that is still available in years to come due to many thinking they will have a rare car in the future.....(not).

People need to realize how much superchargers reduce an engine's efficiency, and with the TRX, it's even worse, considering that the 4X4 is always on. My 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 already gets horrible city mileage. As far as Masseriati is concerned, I doubt the TRX will ever beat them in depreciation just based on how poorly built they are and the fact that cars like the Quattroporte and Ghibli basically offer the same features as a Chrysler 300S besides turbocharged engines and AWD.

People didn't buy cars for an investment potential back in the sixties and early seventies. People bought the cars they could afford that could carry their family with some models having a little performance for dad like all of the midsize muscle cars Torino GTs, Charger RTs, GTOs and the rest of the corporations. Notice their base models aren't worth much but the high horse power models are but these are extremely rare. I believe there is 58 1969 Trans AM convertibles built with the RAM AIR III engine option one sold at auction for 1.2 million. How many are left maybe 10? 3,000 Demons were made that were numbered people are going so save them to try to cash in HUGE MISTAKE way too many of them. Very few people will race them so it isn't like it will be hard to find an original Demon with all numbers matching.
