So cool. My grandmas were teenagers in the 1920s. This is how they wore their hair. My one grandma called it finger waves. Thank you! Looks great on you. ❤
Hi peoples, if you are wanting this to last a long time or live in high humidity areas, I highly recommend using 2-4 dots of eyelash glue to tack down the curls that are closest to the face. This especially makes the little pin curls stay tight and have great definition.
My mom always used Dippity Do to set her hair in the 60's... I can remember the smell of it to this day and being fascinated with that jar of clear, pink gel on her dresser. She tried a to set my hair a few times- sleeping in rollers and hair pins, ugh!- but I wasn't having it, I was a tomboy. I love Downton Abbey and found the hairstyles to be so fascinating, especially Edith's since she always sported finger waves.
I always feel so happy when you pop up in my notifications! Currently recovering from a big operation and it's been tough but this has absolutely made my day! 🥰 Much love from a fellow Aussie quirky gal!
Doesn't matter what I try to do with my hair - the end result is a frizzy puffy mess. But I've always wondered how this look was achieved so thanks for sharing!
I growing my hair out and of course with that comes awkward growing out phase. I saw another lady in CZcams shorts doing fingerwaves . And felt inspired. I’ve been home sick again with covid so today is my secound day playing with doing fingerwaves. I’m loving it . I love and admire vintage styles . And makeup and clothes and pretty much everything. Love your channel. Thank you fir such High quality and researched content. Thank you thank you❤❤❤❤❤
My Great Nana used to do this hairstyle every day, she always went to sleep with Bobby pins to make the front of her hair wavy like this, hers was a full short bob though. This brought back some great nostalgia for me, thank you for sharing 😁
After watching this I googled what was used for hairspray in the 1920’s. You should see if you can make your own hairspray and try it with a 1920’s hair style. ❤️ all your videos, Sage!
My hair isn't this long any more but I did this look for one of my end of school formals (I got it done at the salon and the stylist used gel, it definitely wasn't going anywhere!) This makes me want to grow my hair, even though I really won't do that! I'll enjoy vicariously instead!
Yay I can have a chic bob without chopping off all my hair! I'm very excited to try this out! I love your tutorials so much! The results are always lovely and you explain everything very well!
Awww Sage, beautiful as always! The black and white part really felt like I was watching an authentic old school film. The hairstyle looks so lovely on you. 💕
I'm getting married next friday, so i hope i will do this as good as you did. Thanks for your great video about a lovely period of time, too. Still loving the 20's/30's/40's and absolutely the 50's.
I think you were born in the wrong century! These vintage styles look so natural on you! I’m in cosmetology and fingerwaves are so challenging! I love the idea of long hair having an option...it’s darling! You make the funniest faces when using hairspray, hey, I’m there with you girlfriend! 🥰📸🎀💟
This was great! Thank you! Spraying ones self in the face/eye with hairspray is no fun! But loved your grimaces! Lol! I have very curly hair so will practice getting this smooth but waved look!
We used to have to do fingerwaves and pin curls for beauty school and state boards. I hated doing them. Such a pain. Lol. For. State boards we used to have to make sure that when we pulled the hair forward we would have to come every single strand of hair forward including all the underneath hair. Otherwise the style just did not work. You miss Lillyman did a very very good job
This is one of the cutest hairstyles I've seen you do. I love this era as well. It really suits u also, very nice. Ear helmet, lol. Thank you so much Sage 🥰❤💕
Sage..the finger waves look awesome..you especially have that beautiful smile which highlights your looks. My mother also did a quick updo for summer heat..a pony tail at the crown she split into 3-4 sections made sausage finger curl's secured at the base of the ponytail with Bobbie pins.. would you try it ?
Hello Sage! Thanks for the tips for doing finger waves! My hair is not as thick as yours, but I think I can try this style. Now that it is 2022, I have a good excuse for wearing my cloche hats! The finger waves will go nicely with my hats! Great video! ~Janet in Canada
For more holding power, try a spray on setting lotion like lotta body. My curls wont hold more than 3 hours without it for overnight curls, andonly 1 hour with heat curls. But with that setting lotion, my curls will last all day, and I'll still have waves the following day.
I don't know if they have these in Australia but look for pin curl clips they're very very tiny and they will definitely hold better than a bobby pin and they're not as long as bobby pins so therefore you don't have to worry about them going on the other hair and flattening them out
Sage you look absolutely gorgeous 🌹 You have super model gorgeous hair. Aqua-net is painful 😖 (I didn't know it still existed) I absolutely love your dress. (I need to look in your show notes to see if there is a link. )
My grandma explained to me that they used a solution of sugar and water to keep the hair in a certain way... I cannot imagine that! She was born in 1922, so maybe they used to do it more like in the 1930s-40s I don't know. Unfortunately she is not with us anymore to ask for more explanations
Hi, I loved your tutorial. I was also wondering what music is in the background? And I'd like to follow your Instagram, but for me the link in the description didn't work.
My sister did this for her wedding! It was 1920s/Downton Abbey themed wedding. All the guests dressed up too!
Wow, they would have all looked so lovely! :)
That’s so cool 😎. Love it ❤️❤️
The brightest smile on You Tube. You looked so authentic to the period when you went into black and white 🙂
So cool. My grandmas were teenagers in the 1920s. This is how they wore their hair. My one grandma called it finger waves. Thank you! Looks great on you. ❤
My grandma taught me finger waves with a foamy setting lotion and then you sit under the dryer or sleep with it. Its so much fun to do!
That's what we learned in cosmetology school. Everyone hated the finger waves buy they where so much fun. The foam was amazing

Thank you Sage Lilleyman for your wonderful videos honoring the beautiful women of yesteryear.❤️

I had finger waves as a young lady I loved them I wish they'd come back into style your lovely and the look fits you so perfectly
I have been looking everywhere for a tutorial on how to do this hairstyle. Thanks so much for posting it.

I'm glad to be of help!
You look so authentic and lady-like! I love this look!
I had a good laugh when you made faces from the hairspray fumes! 😄
hehe thank you! :)
I loved the amazon prime series "Z the beginning of everything" it felt very real 1920s. I cant wait to try this hair style, 1920s fashion is so fun!
I loved that show too, the fashion and hair was so authentic! :)
You've got the perfect look for all these darling hairdos aka hairstyles. Great video.
Thank you so much! 😊
Doesn't matter what I try to do with my hair - the end result is a frizzy puffy mess. But I've always wondered how this look was achieved so thanks for sharing!
You probably have naturally curly hair! Try some tips from Swavy Curly Courtney here on CZcams :)
^ To second this, my hair would always frizz no matter what I did and I only recently realized it had a natural wave pattern

You look just like a silent film star :)

Absolutely loved this video.
Aww thank you very much
Sometimes with her gaze, her clothes and colour hair, reminds me a lot to Anya Taylor-Joy in The Queen's Gambit!
Lovely video by the way ♥️.
We learned how to do finger waves in hair school. Hated it because we used gel and it felt so gross.
This was great! Thank you! Spraying ones self in the face/eye with hairspray is no fun! But loved your grimaces! Lol! I have very curly hair so will practice getting this smooth but waved look!

Perfection! Bravo!

Hi sage have you ever done a 1970s retro hairstyle
Hi, I loved your tutorial. I was also wondering what music is in the background? And I'd like to follow your Instagram, but for me the link in the description didn't work.
You should have done a black and white shot of the ready hair, to look like the ladies in those pics!
Otherwise, well done, I liked it!
