    My grandmother would've loved to see that this generation of young girls would style their hair this way and not consider it outdated and boring.

    • @helenagutierrez284
      @helenagutierrez284 Před 3 lety +14

      I think it's really pretty, and also the opposite of boring!
      Boring is to wear it straight and untied everyday.
      What I do have to say is that i get why we don't choose to style our hair. Adding to the fact that it takes a really long time, it's risky to make if you don't have at least a bit of hability With hair, and you could ruin it very easily.

    Very cute! These faux bobs even had a fun nickname, back in the day: nervous bobs (obviously, for women too nervous to bob their hair in earnest.) If you wanted the look but were too afraid to take the plunge and head out to the barbershop, this was the next best thing. PS: If you have a lot of trouble making the fingerwaves, there's a hack for that, too: Alternate the direction of the clips, so that some point away from your face, and others toward it. This makes sure that the dips and swells of the waves all line up neatly.

    These are so cool! Good tips for if I ever have to do a 20s thing. One of my favourite parts of Downton Abbey was that Edith never cut her hair and just sort of wore it in a bun with finger waves, and I definitely think the second method reflected that excellently!

    • @melodyvoss
      @melodyvoss Před rokem +2

      OMG YES!! I hated finger waves! We used a handful of that goopy pink gel that came in a tub. You could get your full amount of hours by just working on one head of finger waves...lol I have hair to my jeans & trying to do my own 1920's hair do b4 even watching this video has been hell. Considering wearing it in a slicked ponytail under a scarf. But, I'm gonna watch this video & see what happens.

  • @helenaroman1543

    Such a cute video! Finger waves are hard...used to make me wanna drop out of cosmetology school, we were required to do like 20 of those successfully before they'd sign off on us. I went to that school for fun back when I was 15 and learned a finger wave trick. Start with damp hair, douse it in styling gel. Then "mold" the finger waves with your fingers as you did, then lock them in place with the clips and once you've done your head, blow it dry... then remove the clips, then gently comb through careful not to disturb the "waves." That's what we did when we didn't have time to pin curl. :)

    Hey I'm a hairstylist And I love all of your hairtutorials, watching them now with short hair makes ne sad xD for the fingerwaves a tip(im german and trying my best to describe it): we always made the curls in horizontal rows, the first left turn, thenn the second right turn, then repeat. This way you create a deeper wave and you just can gently push them when you brushed them through und already have your wave without forming it by hands, that the way you do it when they are wet and are actual fingerwaves. Hope it works somehow.

    This video is so helpful! I'm designing hair for a show set in the early 1920's (trying to make a production work with safety procedures during quarantine) and all of my ladies have longer hair and don't want to do a chop (I really don't blame them, and definitely didn't expect it). I've been trying to find tutorials and videos that will be easier for them to go off of and use as reference, especially since some of them aren't hair-savy and I won't be styling their hair. I'm actually looking at that video not for the faux Bob part but for the curling part: i'm obsessed with 1916-1917 fashion and i can not for the life of me find and article, magazine, tutorial or anything about how they did the beehive like updos in the late 1910s,the pinning part isn't that complicated (they mainly look like French twists, psyche or all of the updos from before in the decade where i actually have a lot of articles on) but what makes the updos look "1916" and not "fancy dress 60s mod grandma" is the cutting and curling of the hair and in that video you managed to have you front hair look almost exactly like a drawing from fashion without having all of your hair cut into a glorified mullet

    It is easier to make these waves when you curl a top row in one direction (around the top of head), the next one goes in an opposite direction under the first row, then swap again and etc~ so the wave get shaped naturally, very small effort to shape the classic 20-s waves.
