HIIIII, long time no "hair video"?? Idk but HERE YOU GO. I wanted to see if it was even possible for me to do a bunch of vintage hairstyles under 5 minutes, so I set a timer on my phone and went for it. This was a little stressful, especially when bobby pins kept flying out of my hands, but WORTH IT, lol.
I love you all! If you try this challenge be sure to let me know/tag me! :)

Okay Rachel, you've tried spending less than five minutes on your hair. Now for a real challenge...
Do your hair with only three bobby pins.
I'd suggest a zero pin challenge but I don't want to torment you lol
Hahahaha oh NO I RELY ON MY PINS 😂😂😂😂😂
When I had long hair I had a hairstyle that I could do with no pins OR elastics. It was just a bun, but it requred a specific way of twisting my hair. So you can do a lot without pins, but oh, how many beautiful alternatives I have learned since Learning to use a million bobby pins.
@@meamela9820 how did you do it!?!?
@@meamela9820 You mean the nautilus bun?
@@meamela9820 My hair has quite an odd texture, it just like *stays* ,whenever I put it somewhere (I'm assuming it's because it's curly and very dry+frizzy haha) it just stays there lol
I think Snood is gonna be my new favorite word for a while.
mmm. ..makes a change from hoood...
Lol
Thneed but less sinister
“It’s not really that tempting to put effort into hairstyles.” I feel SEEN.
"Couple of quick rolls" and here's me, trying to make them look acceptable for half an hour before throwing away the bobby pins and goin with the usual
😂❤️❤️ they're definitely the toughest part of vintage hair!!! I still am not very good at them lolol
Ugh yes, I've lost hours of my life to trying rolls and never succeeded! Even when I curl my very straight hair, it's just too stubborn and slippery!
I love how they look on other people but I feel ridiculous when I attempt them...
That quacking sound makes me bust out laughing EVERY TIME! 😂😂
Hahaha I'm glad because SAME 😂
The second style is like flapper Princess Leia, haha.
SocietyNeedsToCrumble Yes lol 😂 Actual braided hair-earmuffs like Leia’s we’re actually quite common in the 1920’s. Especially for conservative girls and women who didn’t want to cut their luscious Edwardian hair 😂 (AKA me when I dress 1920s lolll)
Ooh yes, do a But Make it Vintage with Princess Leia.
@@rhiannonharmston9884 czcams.com/video/8Kc7u034XPo/video.html she did 😛
SocietyNeedsToCrumble that’s what I thought too hahaha
Yeah, I thought of star wars too.
Me watching with a short 1920s hair cut, with a modern undercut: yes interesting! Add a scarf it's vintage!
watching rachel do this reminds me of my newfound hobby of telling my dad how many bobby pins are in my hair and watching him become deeply disturbed. it's very amusing. highly recommend
Audrey, you might make him guess. Keep us posted, k?😄
the curse of having naturally curly hair, where every roll is as bumpy as an early 20th century stone road
big mood, and i dont have the heart to straighten my hair to just accomplish them 🤣
Yall can try rollersetting, I have 3c hair, very curly, and I'm able to achieve these hairstyles with roller setting, it is a lot of effort though 😂
I love watching vintage hair stuff. My hair is natural, so I like seeing how people get these fantastic styles. Maybe one day I will try to style them even with my...super curly hair lol.
Mortis Speaks don’t discourage yourself! There are some tutorials out there specifically for natural hair, I’m sure you can nail these styles! Here’s a specific tutorial for coily/kinky if that helps: czcams.com/video/4g5MJgz9JNU/video.html

8 vintage hairstyles, 20 vintage style cosplays... GIRL, YOU ARE SPOILING US! Thank youuu my looove ❤❤😁🌼
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would love to see these kinds of styles but on shorter hair. My hair’s just above shoulders and I’m struggling for ideas 🥺
Honestly I find shorter hair easier. A lot of hair is a lot to work with and rolling a curl up is harder. You might just have to use rats or back comb to get the volume you need. I don’t because I have pretty thick hair and I don’t want *that* much volume.
*Rachel uploads*
*Drops everything and watches* 💜

Watching your videos always gives me a spontaneous urge to dye my hair red
Is it just me or when she put in the big sun hat she kinda looked like Audrey Hepburn 🤔
Yess was thinking that too
She was the cutest little thing I've ever seen with that sun hat
they have similar eyes and brows. she’s stunning.
Yess
I actually thought she looked like Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara :)
You, your home, your style, all makes me feel so cozy! Thanks for being you! Stay safe
Aww thank you love, you too!!
Me: wow that looks easy maybe I could do it
*does it and fails miserably*
Me:
I still fail miserably all the time! 😂❤️
Truth!! My bumper bangs make me look like Frankenstein. 😅😅😭😭
mine make me look like Lord Farquad!
Me too. She made it look easy... But they all do.. 5 mins is not 5 minutes for me..
I like to do new hairstyles/techniques (or makeup) in the evenings or weekends, so I get some practice until it looks actually somewhat like it should
For the snood, here is a tip. Use a hair net first then add the snood over it. The hair net helps to keep stray hair from popping out of the snood.
I am so going to do a couple of these hair styles for sure!
My number one favorite is the turban and braids.
To help when doing rolls when you have bangs, run a bit of pomade over the length of hair to help make the shorter hairs roll together better.
Your hair is getting so long😍 I'm so jealous. I've been itching to dye mine that color but I'm trying to wait until after my wedding incase I look bad 😬
Thanks so much for keeping up with the entertainment! I know it can be hard, but your fans and I are so appreciative❤️ we love you so much!
Whenever people ask me for channel recommendations, Rachel always ends up being the first one I force them to look up, and no i dont plan on changing that
Perfect. This is just the time to experiment with ALL the vintage looks! I usually go 40s-50s but today I decided to go full Edwardian for no discernible reason. Tomorrow I’ll try the mini milkmaid braids! Thank you Rachel 💕 You give me life!
Her hair is so healthy and beautiful
Obsessed. Rolling in the front is going to change everything for me, because I like hair off my face but like my hair down. This is everything!! Thank you! 💜
Never have I clicked on a Rachel Maksy update this fast!
Have a safe quarantine Rachel! :D
🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
my brother said the sentence "we have fun here" to me this morning and i immediately thought of you HAHA those hair styles are great by the way! would they work on straight, thick, asian hair too?
honestly scarves have revolutionised the way i think about doing period/vintage hair! my hair is less than 4 inches at its longest point (my fringe) but styles 4 & 5 work surprisingly well with my incredibly modern clipper cut
bro, that second hairstyle with the braids and the turban is hella cheeky. it looks SO GOOD; you'd never even know what's Going On underneath
Hahaha the MYSTERYYY
I wish my hair wasn't so thin. It just has no substance so anything I try to do falls out or looks flat. I've tried doing rolls but it just never holds. These hairstyles looked really beautiful though!
coolhere45 Same!
Same T^T mine is very fine and fairly thin. It’s hard to do anything with it. If I’m planning on putting my hair up, I use the batiste volumizing dry shampoo and that helps. I don’t like it at all for leaving my hair down because I can’t even get my fingers through my hair when I use it. But it works pretty well for achieving some of the victorian/edwardian inspired styles I like to do. Maybe check it out :)
@@LilChocobo789 Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check it out :)
coolhere45 I hope it works for you!
@coolhere45 I don't know if you follow Loepsie, but she's another vintage-based hair/beauty CZcamsr who's very open about her struggles with her thin hair and ways she works around it in vintage styles. I have the opposite problem but still find her honesty and creativity very inspiring!
LOVED THEM!!!! Oh but the last one was BEAUTIFUUUUUUUUUUL!!! I can see myself using that one, it looks like a comfy, functional do to wear with the motorcycle helmet
Yes!! And the chignon thingy was surprisingly really easy! 😂
I'm like OBSESSED with the 1940's and 1950's especially their fashion and hair. This is really useful thank you so much.
I really like seeing these styles, it's great to see all the variety you can do with vintage-y looks! Also, thank you for providing more reasons to keep trying to grow out my hair!
As I was sure it would, the hat is STUNNING on you. Perfect with the hairstyle ! Also, this goes straight into my faves. I need to recreate them all !!
Seriously I hate when my bangs doesn't hold in my victory rolls 😭😤
Elisabeth I have yet to figure out how to do this. They are too high level for me 😂
@@kristianagibbard8436 It is a big morning challenge when I decide to make victory rolls with my damn bangs 😂
I have like full on Dora bangs so I’m trying to grow them out just long enough so I can attempt victory rolls
I love the lighting at the end of the video when you're done and talking about the styles. It makes a nice soft background that makes it really enjoyable to watch.
🤗❤️❤️
This is exactly what we all needed to see! Thanks Rachel :)
I'm guessing your DM's are gonna be full of girls asking you to send snoods... awesome looks here,
I'm new to vintage hairstyles and they seem so tricky and difficult to do for me, but you make them all look so easy! :D
Please please please more of these types of videos! This helped me a ton! I have new hair pieces to order on my list now. Loved the beret video but loved this one for the "quick do" aspect. Please do this again! YOU'RE AMAZING!
These hairstyles are inspiration for anybody who laments getting a hairstyle in a pandemic. Get yourself some pins, a scarf. Got and old silk tie? sew the tie into a scarf and use it on your hair. For that you can remove the padding used in the tie and sew the silk into a ribbon or finish the edges to make a scarf.
"then pin the crap out of it" literally my hair style on a daily basis - pinned too death 😂
I have never been here this early.... in new here 😂 (sort of)
I’m honestly addicted to your channel at the moment.
I love this, and I totally want to try out some of these styles!
I love your content so much, you never fail to entertain me with your humor and bright personality. Thank you for being your fantastic self!
Thank you for the faux bangs with the swirl on the side! I haven't seen anything like it on here or even anywhere and it looks like a great second or even third day thing to do that leaves plenty of options for styling in the back. I love how clean it is and that you don't need to cover up anything because there is nothing to cover up about it. Bumper bangs do get old.
Awww, I so loved this! Cute, funny, light, and always how great your hairstyles turn out. BTW, I also love your music choices. I think I’d be bummed if you stopped using those. Give Frodo, the wise sage, a hug from Wyoming!
Hopefully the quarentine ends before my hair grows long enough to attempt these styles...
I struggle between the need to have a shaved head and wanting long hair for vintage hairstyles.
Honestly what a mood
Same here!
I shaved my below shoulder length hair (that took me 2 years to grow since last shave) 3 weeks ago. Today I shaved again, cuz I felt it was "losing the shape".
Then I watch this kind of videos and miss my long hair 🤷
But my life is so much easier with short hair, so yeap, I guess the first thing I'll buy when quarantine is over is a good wig.
@@carolfsanisme wigs... All the famous people use wigs and then are not stressing about what length their hair is.
Literally growing my hair out so I can try vintage hairstyles.
I love your videos Rachel, they make my whole week and give me so much inspiration and laughs 🧡✨🧡
I've done the pony tail tuck through before, but never thought to use it for a Bun Basis!
Thanks so much Rachel! You rule!
Me: forever looking for cheese cloths
Also me: Huh. I guess I should have been ordering wigs all along since they come with free hairnets.
Sally beauty usually has hairnets, when you work in the food industry you frequently need them.
8:09 Giorno Giovanna who?? I only know Rachael Maksy
Thank god I am not the only one who thought of that. I was looking for someone to say it in the comments when she said put your hair in 3 rolls in the front.
Aw, congrats on the promo and thanks for sharing with us! I am in the middle of ordering right now!!! So excited, mmmmm eucalyptus, cannot wait to try it (and smell it lol)! Thank you, thank you, thank you for uploading a 'hairstyles in 5 min video', I am wild about these vintage styles but have been so discouraged! I feel more hopeful now watching you do some simple styles so quick, and I have been experimenting these days so REALLY looking forward to trying these!!!
These are so cute, and look simple to do for beginners. My siblings and I, are having a 1950s style picnic and Ive been trying to find hairstyles to practice. Than you for posting these, and others! Truly beautiful hairstyles.

I LOVE your videos! 💕 I’ve been so inspired by your hair videos to try different styles and I’m actually loving it!
I have a question: What exactly is a snood? It sounds really cute
It's just a knitted hair net basically!
Snood sounds like a cute name for your partner when they've done something thoughtful. ''Oh, you snood, I told you it wasn't necessary...''
Tell me it doesn't work.
I'm trying it out as a pet name for hubby. He's now ma lil' snood.
My gerbils just got 7 babies, I have no idea what to name them, but one of them will be Snood.
I spent a week trying and failing to do 1950s hair. My hair does not do the smooth thing.
One thing that makes me feel better about my very frizzy hair- look at the photos of the time. A lot of the women still had plenty of frizz and flyaways. So, it’s authentic.
Pomade! And so very much of it!!!
Blown away by how cute and quick these are! I love the hair net from a wig idea, I’ll definitely use that sometime!
Thank you for being brave enough to become the greatest version of yourself and by doing so, your making soo many people happy. That is amazing you can do that!
I just want to know what girls with super thin straight hair did back in the day...
They got perms
hvasw Slept in rag curlers or something overnight. My stick-straight, thin, fine hair even will hold a curl with vintage overnight methods.
Falls or hair pieces were often used for volume and thickness. My grandmother wore them all the time when she was younger.
@@heididavison816 I've tried that several times though and no curl ever lasted more than 2 hours.. even with products before and after styling.. I guess I'm cursed...
@@hvasw are you trying a wet set or a dry set?
Love this! I especially love the use of Snoods, crochet my own Snoods and I rarely see variations on how to style with them
Fun! I love these ideas! I’m gonna have to get creative on the braid ones since my hair isn’t long enough...but I love how your videos get my brain working in new and creative ways to come up with my own version.
One of your best in a long time madame!!
Taking your lead I've promised myself to practise wearing red lipstick and trying various vintage hair dos whilst on lockdown. I'm also searching out the perfect red lipstick - am currently wearing the utterly bomb proof and pretty gorgeous Maybelline Stuper Stay in Red Alert and have one of your Keep It Red coming from the USA (at some point) which I can't wait to try!!
Thanks you once again!

Love the video! Doing my hair/makeup each day has kept a form of structure in my routine. Eventhough no one might see it, it still feels nice to look nice. I will probably will try a few of these💖 also thank you for being honest about that you were not sure this would take under five actual minutes. Not only is it truthful about the actual timing for a quick hairstyle but also that you have a specific level of skill and therefore speed for the ones you picked. It is a good reminder that things will only be a 5-minute-routine if you have done something before or something similar. the first time I tried winged eyeliner it took me forever and still hated how it looked 😂 now it takes me 1 whole minute and everyone says: you make it look so easy.
Practice makes everything easier and perfect! The first one I will try out is the 4th look, that seems smart for greasy days!
Thank you for always making vintage style accessible! I watched a ton of you tubers and you were legit the first one where I was like “ohhh I can do this! She looks amazing but it’s not like....3 hours a day!”
Gonna try all these! Great video again! Favourite part of my week. Loved the magical appearing Frodo!
I would love to see a video where you try to put together vintage outfits to match modern aesthetics... like cottage core, dark/light academia, for a bit more of a challenge you could do a vintage e girl, vsco girl, baddie, 'granola', I think it would be fun!
Watching this before a test has me both relaxed - because Rachel, but also stressed because the timer is constantly reminding me of the test😅
The style with the giant sun hat reminds me so much of Leslie Caron in An American In Paris! These are super great. Thank you! Fabulous inspiration to help me still have vintage hair on pain days/when I haven't been bothered to put a set in.
Loved this video! It's amazing how you make the style look so well done in 5 minutes.
My challenge will be doing any of these..with a mohawk cut. no time limit haha
