- Hello Darlings! In this weeks video I show you how you can create a 1960s bouffant hairstyle. It was heaps of fun changing up my regular 40's/50's hair for something more of an adventurous hairdo! I hope you enjoy the video and be sure to let me know if you try this style out too!
Lots of love,

My mother was stunned that anyone these days knows how to do pin curls much less standing pin curls. You're preserving an art form!
Awh, that's very sweet thank you!
She definitely does a great job of it! And there are thousands of people, particularly millenials it seems, who are really into recreating vintage hairstyles and fashions, most often 30s to 60s. You can find news articles about it online!
If only someone like your mother would create videos showing us how ordinary people actually pincurled their hair "back in the day"! That's the one thing that's so hard to find....
One little thing confuses me: your calling these "standing" pin curls, when they were actually flat ones, am I right? (The ones sticking out weren't supposed to!) As I understand it, stand-up pin curls resembled barrel curls made with rollers, just that they were rolled and pinned without any rollers.
Sorry for any confusion. I was referring to the way she did her hair in another video with the SPC. Alas my mom is too old to do her own hair anymore.
@@douglasanderson9407 Oh, I see. Thanks and sorry to hear about your mother. At least we can still enjoy the presence and influence of our older folks.
@@streetofdreams4538 she adores Sage! 🥰
You have THE prettiest smile I’ve seen. So so cute
I agree with you!🤗👍
YES !
Aw, you are so sweet! Thank you! xxx
@@SageLilleyman Vintage smile is best smile.
Your hair looks exactly like my grandmother's did in the sixties! Safe to say I got chills with just how perfectly it matched her graduation photos. So well done, and greetings from Canada!
Ahh that's crazy!! haha thank you so much! :)
My mom used to wear her hair like that in the 60s. It’s so cute.
Since I'm born in 1967,all my childhood photos ,all the ladies in my family have these amazing hairstyles. This looked so gorgeous on you, its suits you very much. Thank you so much for the video sweetie ❤💕😘
Aw that means so much, thank you! xx
@@SageLilleyman you're very welcome sweetie 💞😘❤
I was born in 1963 and I know a lot about that time. I remember my moms’ hairstyle very well. Always a lot of work to fix it and every day a new bottle of hairspray!! 😹😹😹
I likes the sixties and seventies and although I would like that our live was just the same now, I am happy with many things from “this new period”.
Thanks for bringing the old times back and making me feel soooooo happy and good.
In love!! You know what, we need a video on how you get that down without hurting your scalp. I neeeeeed it!!
Oh my goodness! That little bow in the back is so cute and sets off all of those poofy curls perfectly! 🎀👩🦱
hehe thank you!!
Man you ROCKED IT!! Now you need to do a follow up on what it's like to wash all that spray out & unknown all the tease!! Boy I am old enough to remember what a nightmare THAT part of the '60's dos were lololololol I love your travel through history with foods & trends...so much fun!
Hahaha I know right! I haven't washed the hair spray and teasing out yet, wish me luck!! Thanks so much for watching! :)
My arms got tired just watching this! Such a stunning look 😍
Oh dear, this is actually how I still do my hair. Here in Texas this is just normal hair we all have big hair and yes I do use hot rollers everyday.
@Esther Weiesnbach “The higher the Hair the closer to God” 😂 love it! I’m in Cali and everyone is into the messy waves or stick straight hair it’s soooo boring. I have to sets of hot curlers but they both are very unreliable. Do you have any brand/model of hot curlers that you recommend??
@@sirenelectric143 it was at University in the early 80s that I discovered girls were using two sets of rollers at a time. Wow.
Get the ones that have velvet or flocking on them.
I am binge watching CZcams while recording costumes in our theatre. I had to come back to your channel because of your positive energy. I tried watching others but the sarcasm and cynicism brought me down. You have such a wonderful, bright tone to your videos that bring me up. Thank you!
everytime i watch her she reminds me of a ginger lily james so pretty loved the look!
Best compliment ever! Thank you
I’m in love with your life style you look and your personality! 😍☺️
Blessings to you and yours, Sage. You're a blessing and a sweetie!
Reminds me of the golden Egyptian cinema days🇪🇬😻, also in there the bun and long ponytail' style was more famous but still many actresses and even more normal ladies wore those ones,,, before wahab**ism💔😢
Soo cute!! Very Jackie. ♥️
Aw that's a lovely compliment, thank you!
Truly a classic and beautiful look, and I admire the effort, talent, and patience it takes to create it. You are remarkably adorable, Miss Sage.
So cute! I absolutely love this, and I can’t wait to try this hairstyle! Thanks Sage!
Thank you! Let me know how it goes! xx
I wore my hair in a flip for one year during the 60’s. I set it with rollers. With most of the rollers I would wind my hair down and around the rollers... but with the bottom 2 rollers around my head, I would wind my hair up and around each roller. I ratted my hair and sprayed my hair with Aqua Net. I wore rollers to sleep every night. Standing pin curls give a more elaborate hairdo than rollers... interesting video!
I love your smile, your voice and your talent! I remember my mom doing my hair in pin curls....I loved the way it turned out... not the process so much as I had long thick hair. Thank you for the memories 🥰
Love how you have such fun with this and your expressions when spraying your hair. So realistic!!
You are so talented Sage
Aw you are very sweet, thank you!
I am in love with your videos and I love the 50s in fact I am doing a project about the 50s and with your help it makes it fun keep up with the work
Hi Sage!😊
Looks like You had a lot of fun...and the result is just lovely...🤩
Thank You Sweetie for Your tutorials, they are so special, they take you into a completely different world, they take you back in time...and that is just amazing...💝
Lots of love Sweetie ❣
As a retired beautician, you did a pretty good job especially in the bang or fringe area. You are fortunate to have thick hair with hair coloring - both help with a long lasting style. I have some suggestions to make your comb out easier and long lasting.
After you brush out your hair, section the crown area in a size of a small cap and tie it up. Then go to the back hair section and with a rat tail or teasing comb, and backcomb starting at the root and then feather out towards the end. Dońt use hairspray yet and with a brush (not a comb), gently smooth the surface and use your fingers to place curls or waves. Use a metal pic or a rat tail comb to gently pull out volume if needed. Then spray with a very light coat of hairspray. Then go to the crown area you pinned up starting in the front with an inch parting and back comb straight up at a 90 degree angle. Make sure to pack it in at the root and ease off towards the ends of the hair. Do another inch row and then back comb both sections together so you can’t see the individual rows. Continue the process with the whole section.. Do not put hair spray on at this time - often times it will gum up the hair making it difficult to comb out. With a brush (a nylon bristle old fashioned hairbrush), gently smooth the top layer of hair over the packed in back combing. Dońt worry about this bouffant area being too big but focus on smoothing the top layer of hair. Then with both hands smooth the bouffant finishing it to secure in the back of the head. Mash it down to the size you want but make sure it will be higher than the bang area. Then temporarily secure it with Bobbie pins. Dust it with a light spray of hair spray. Then go to the side sections of the hair using the same techniques as above. Make sure to finish with a brush to gently smooth the surface and create a wave away from the face. Finish up the bang and top of the head area. This can be challenging so be patient and dońt use hairspray out of frustration. You will be back combing like you did in the cap area. Take a one inch parting and back comb it up at a 90 degree angle. Finish the entire area. With both your fingers and thumb, gently spread out the hair so it fans over the bouffant. Then with the front one inch area of the brush, use dabbing strokes to smooth the hair at the forehead, brushing up at a 90 degree angle. Then give that facial hair section a slight spritz of hairspray. Then gently use the brush to smooth over the top. Use your hands to arrange the rest of the area. Look in the mirror to make sure the bang and top area is lower than the bouffant cap. Check the entire style for balance and use the metal pick or rat tail comb to bring out volume. Make sure not to pull the comb thru otherwise you will destroy your back combing. Use your hands to mash in areas that are too big. Once your style is to your liking, clasp the bouffant area with a medium sized barrette. If you don’t have that use Bobbie pins and criss cross them over. Then take a small stand of hair, roll it up over the Bobbie pins to hide it and pin down. Then spray hairspray all over the style. Don’t spray too much because if you need to fix an area later it will be like working on glue. To maintain this style, as many ladies did in this era, at night they pin curled their hair using large sections ( leave the crown alone) and put on a silk bonnet. For most women, they could maintain this style for a week.
Very insightful! Thanks for sharing!
This is how my Gramma used to wear her hair! I have her wedding photo with her wearing the same style! I'm going to surprise her by doing this style and see her reaction!
I just recently watched the new movie “The Courier” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel Brosnahan based in the early 1960s, and I was so obsessed with the style and hairstyles in the movie! Your hairstyle here Sage, reminded me of the hairstyles in the movie. Definitely recommend it!☺️
What is your hair washing routine like (shampoo, conditioner, leave in treatments, hairspray etc?). I have finer hair so many styles are harder to accomplish!!
I wash my hair 1-2 times a week with just regular old shampoo and conditioner. I sometimes use leave in treatments like a deep treatment conditioner a couple of times a month. I usually use L'oreal Elnett hairspray which is perfect for vintage styles because you can still brush and style your hair after you have sprayed it! I find doing a little teasing underneath a vintage hairstyle really helps to give your hair body! I hope this helps! xx
@@SageLilleyman Thank you! :)
I absolutely love the way it turned out. ❤️
That means so much, thank you!!
You absolutely look like Shirley Temple on the 1940s😍. Love this tutorial, it's actually a vintage❤️✨

I like this hairstyle on you. It was a little bit like this in the 80's with all the teasing!
Have to use a lot detangler to wash it though!
Try doing a full on beehive.
Yess!! Love that one women I think it looks so cool
@@sirenelectric143 me too.
Gorgeous hair
You are so talented. I hope to try that out.❤
So cute!
I love your videos so much !!! ❤️
I remember several years ago when the "hair bump" came back into style and they made those forms that you could put under your hair to get some height. I never did give those a try. Maybe all the big hair in the 80s turned me against it. This style looks great on you. Very fun and flirty!
So cool curls
Girl you can rock any decade!!! This hairstyle looks absolutely stunning on you :) I'm definitely giving it a try
Thanks so much!! xx
Love these videos! They inspire me so much to try something new. Girl, you are so gorgeous 💖 always looking forward to a new video😊

¡Amazing! ¡ I love It! Congratulations ❤️

I loved that you used the picture of Betty Draper. Mad Men is my favorite TV show EVER. Love the 60's vibe of that show. You look gorgeous no matter what style you are wearing but this one really suits you!
Mad Men is one of my favourite tv shows too!! Awh, thank you so much lovely! xx
You look so authentic 60s/vintage🥺
Aw thank you!! :)
Your channel is fun to watch!
Hi Sage, every hairstyle you do suits you. Thank you for this great vidio ❤️🌹
Aw, thank you!!
I was in high school in the 60's and wore my hair in a flip most of the time. Set it nightly on rollers then in the morning I'd brush it out and flip the ends up over my hand. I wasn't into teasing the top - though some girls did. I liked mine more natural & soft.I kept my hair just long enough to brush my shoulders, my Mom was a good hair cutter so I would have her trim it occasionally. Wore it like this until the long straight styles came in- no more rollers!!! Just wash in the morning - comb it wet and let it air dry.
Lovely.
Aww, so cute 😍! Thank you☺ You have great tutorials.
Thanks so much! :)
Definitely going to try this with my sister when she visits! Girls night! ❤️
Sounds like a lovely girls night, have fun!
Love this hairstyle! Great job. My friend’s mom did a style like this on me for Halloween as a child. She was from that era. I was so scared with how much teasing she did. I thought my hair would be ruined forever! 😅
I follow you from Saudi Arabia and I like what you offer. And so is the old way of life. 😊 I wish you good luck 🌺...
I like your smile
Love it!!
Thanks!
sooo pretty 🥰
Hello!This is Jerusalem talking!
You have very good hair and you look absolutely lovely!
Yes, we teased our hair in the 60es but the spray was for oldies ( thirtysomething).lol!
This hairstyle is sooo good 🤩🤩🤩 and it looks amazing and so cool on you😍😍😍 And i dont even have mention that you look so beautiful as always🥰💘💘💘
Aw you are so sweet, thank you so much!! xx
Love it! Question: what kind of haircut do you have? Seems like a perfect length for curling.
My mum had this hairstyle when she was in her 20s
Thank you for making these videos.
My pleasure, thank you so much for watching them! xx
So pretty ☺️
You're the best✨🧡
Yay
Love your videos! Do you or could you make a video all about wearing scarves...like which kind/sizes to buy. Also, I'm so upset I just donated my hot roller set a few weeks!!
Hi sage 💕you look beautiful as always 💛
Perfect!!! 😍
Thank you!!
Love this look.. I still tease and comb over!! I would like to know what kind of hairspray are you using?
Sooooo beautiful ❤️❤️❤️😱
boutta show up to a ghetto high school with this hairstyle, a 60s inspired makeup look, and a 60s inspired outfit..lets see how it goes ig
@Strwbryy111i dont remember but i probably ate
Very cute. I hate teasing my hair. It feels like I'm damaging it and the texture it turns to is gross. Haha. Love watching your tutorials. Looks beautiful.
Thank you! I know what you mean, teasing can't be too good for the hair!
Another great video. 👍🏻
Thank you so much! :)

Could you do a tutorial on how to use hot rollers to get a look like this???

@@SageLilleyman You are welcome!💖🤗😘
You look stunning with this hair style. I think I need a new set of hot rollers! My hair is to long and way to thick to do pin curls. It would take an hour to do the curls alone! Lol. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much! Yes me too, I've got hot rollers on my list of things to buy! :)
Perfect!!! 👏🏻💕🎀💐❤️
Thank you so much!
Luv your channel! I would luv to see cloth diapering in the late 50s early 60s , I remember those cloth squares and the rubber pants, brings back so many fond memories!
Is it possible to see something like this recreated?

FAB
you’re so beautiful, please make a make up tutorial
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I wish I could do this. I have so much hair it would take me forever to pin it all. It’s not long, it’s just super thick.
I totally understand what you mean! Maybe large foam rollers may work better for thick hair because you can take larger sections of hair instead of the tiny sections for pin curling? xx
You're awesome
I think you are an absolute darling and congrats on your engagement.🎉
How did they wear is everyday and still have good hair
Love you😚😍
clicked bc I saw jane fonda and you together 🥺
You are having too much fun. Also, I thought for a minute about a nursery rhyme about a little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead...
hahaha!! :)
Hi!! Can you let us know where you got your hair scarves?!
I got my head scarf here from Daiso a Japanese store, it's just a simple rectangular scarf. You should be able to find something like this from most clothing stores for an affordable price! xx

Damn. 1960s had such classy style!!! All she needs is some expensive stilletos.
