Thanks for the review. I just bought myself one just like it. I didn't know most of what you talked about in this video. Good job. I put 5 gallons of gas in it, and wondered how much more it would take to fill it. Now I know.

I got bored over the winter and replaced the 20 hp kohler with a brand new 23 hp kohler. I took deck off; stripped it , primed it and repainted it with scag cat eye gold paint. I replaced the blade spindle assembly with scag OEM sphindle assemblies. Replaced all belts, decals, muffler, starter, front caster sphindle bearings, greased every fitting with appropriate grease -> either white lithium grease or red grease. Even stripped and repainted wheels. I did not replace the hydro pumps or wheel motors because I did that when mower had only 250 hrs on it (wrongly advised) it wud make a knocking noise and pull to left under load going up hill. I figured out it was wrong advice on my own by simply reading the complete owner manual and paying attention to drawings ; there is 3 spring holes in pro clutch belt spring arm. Mine was originally set to loosest setting; the problem was simple...the hydro gear belt was not tight enough; once I tightened up spring that runs to hydro gears; all that stopped. The mower has 524 hours on it now; the clam shell unit is nice; only has about 30 hours on it; I hardly ever used i bought it with mower. I had a little over 9k in total when I bought it in 2004. Today that same setup wud run about 11,500. I don’t know if I wud take 8,500 for it now, everything I did to it over winter ran me about 4,200 with official scag parts ; scag is proud of their replacement parts; I cud have bought after market parts, but I read to many horror stories; the biggest complaint I’ve had about scag mowers was the ride itself, but the suspension seat makes a world of difference.

Thanks for your video. It just confirms what I think about SCAGs. I just bought a used Cub that has a few issues I can deal with. I bought this 48" to go with my 72" Turf Tiger. I had a 52" Tiger Cat 2 which I loved, but I wanted the biggest deck for the wide open spaces I have. I realized that the smaller deck was needed for the several stands of small trees which I have on the property. The Turf Tiger could almost get them, but not quite as well as the 52'. Then I went for a 36" Liberty Z which was a mistake. That one is not anything like their commercial mowers. I'm spoiled I guess, so it's gone. That's when I went looking for a Cub. SCAGs are the best from my experience and they are so nice to work on. It took a while, but I finally found one that's very nice, but as I said, has a few issues. Yours could easily sell for $4 > $4,500 if you put a shine on it. 700 hours is nothing provided you have taken care of it along the way. I'm dealing with rough ground and the occasional rock, so I'm hard on these mowers, but they are thoughly cleaned and checked after every use so they always look nice.

I have that exact mower, same engine. Mine is a 2005. That’s the best scag ever made. Mine has 805 hours. You can’t tear that thing up. Wonderful mower from a wonderful company! You are at about 50% through the life of that engine at 700 hours. The new ones are now called tiger cat. They recently changed to be named tiger cat 2 with some upgrades and updates. That mower is $8500 now. Hang on to it. It’s unbeatable.

That's good news! I bought my new in 2005. It made it another summer with no problems. I made another video about building a hitch for it that you might want to check out. Thanks for watching.

That’s actually a 2004 mower model. It came with either 19 Kawasaki or 20 kohler. One of the best ever made; I have the 20 kohler. The only problem with that mower is the seat. It is rough. I replaced mine with a suspension seat. My mower was right at 6k and I had 2800 in a clam shell unit.

Pennderosa Farms $315 ; I had to modify the seat plate by drilling different holes. But is a gem now.

I bought my first Scag two years ago. I was so impressed with it even though it was not a commercial grade unit. The Freedom Z. This year I bought a Tiger cub that had been taken out of service with neglected oil leaks and abused wiring hacks. These level mower is now 12K I did a lot of additions to it here is a few. czcams.com/video/jl85STo8j3I/video.html
