Thanks for your review - I own the Studio Canal deluxe set of this film. You make some valid points about slight improvement in SF version but it is not worth paying another £40 for quite marginal gains. I really like Studio Canal and remember that they invested Funds for version that SF have used for their set. It appears that boutique labels are collaborating more with other companies in developing new 4K editions such as new 4K version of Candyman - this is the way to go.
I must say James, I didn't think there would be much of a difference between the Studio Canal & Scream Factory 4K transfers but boy was I wrong. I have both and although subtle, Scream Factory's really was impressive and noticeable right out of the gate. The Atmos track only added to the viewing experience and I loved it. Great comparison, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the great work. I still would love to see you do, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

I agree there was some things that surprised me between both of these 4K releases. ➡️ As I explained in the original post, I will only be able to consider doing The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 4K comparisons review if this Escape From New York Video is financially supported enough via Super Thanks or Donations, because these videos are very expensive videos for me to create with a full 4-5 days of work behind each video also these titles were NOT sent to me for review either. I watched the Shout Factory version in Dolby Vision. It looks really good. They did a great job with this release. Now I am dying for them to release Big Trouble in Little China!!! What is taking so long? Lol.

I also have the studio canal version that i bought in a Cali movie store, but really had to cop the other Shout Factory edition Becuz the Blu rays on the studio canal edition were region restricted ! Huge bummer. And I love the artwork of the new one for sure.

I've got both the studio canal and shout factory 4k films. I could tell the difference between the two right from the start. Awesome movie but have problem unless I'm reading information wrong this 4k doesn't have dolby atmos it has a lot better 5.1 audio mix. Either way I still love it the movie that's awesome and hope you do the review of Lifeforce that has a dolby vision and dolby atmos track keep in touch my friend.
Glad you also noticed how nice this new 4K is. Also as I was covering in this video, The Scream Factory Escape From New York 4K UltraHD set does have Dolby Atmos Audio & Dolby Vision, Shout Factory just didn’t print Dolby Atmos correctly on the back of their box. But the Dolby Atmos is the Audio mix that I enjoyed & had some drastic improvements over the old Studio Canal DTS 5.1 mix. Thanks for your SUPER THANKS Support 👍 Hopefully this helps
Good Job! When Scream releases.. THE FOG... there's should top the SC's edition. Lots of compression issues with that disc. Came out while ago.. but would love to know which edition u think is better for .. THEY LIVE. From what I've read it seems to be a wash between Scream and SC.
I have this on blue ray and I watch it maybe once a year not sure if I want to upgrade to the 36 bucks right now but this is an awesome comparison. I wonder the difference between blu ray and 4K on this one

@@InSearchofPhysicalMedia That's a tough one James, it's hard for me to narrow it down to just one movie. It would be either Rollerball with James Caan or The Outlaw Josey Wales. I already know it's available on 4K in Europe but I'd love to see Terminator Salvation with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack since the bluray sounds excellent up-mixed on my Atmos system. Romeo is Bleeding with Gary Oldman is another that comes to mind. What movies would you like to see on 4K? I was born and raised in NYC , this is why I have a special affection for Escape from NY. Like yourself I also have the Escape from NY soundtrack on CD.
The same Judder moments are present in the Scream Factory release Most noticeable when Snake walks from the bus And also when walking down the hallway Thanks James At least I know its not my player lol And the bitrate info is greatly appreciated As its a deal breaker
Thanks for the solid review. Trying to get my hands on the SF version but it's quite a bit more expensive than the SC version. I also see that the SC version has a full-length doc called Purgatory: Entering John Carpenter's Escape from NY which isn't listed on the back of the SF case. Is that just an oversight?
This is weird because when it was announced, I asked on the scream factory Instagram page if it was the same transfer and they responded yes. But quite clearly you can see the differences in your screen grabs. Do I double dip???

Hello, thank You for a real in depth 4K Ultra HDR comparison between each other. This is the best in depth explanation when comparing two head to head 4K HDR. Have a question, do these 4K HDR disc come with a Digital 4K HDR code as well? I’ve checked on Apple Movies to buy digital version but noticed it’s only on HD quality.
No both these releases are Physical media 4K disc releases only, most boutique releasing companies do not do any digital releases because digital dumbs down the quality & you lose a lot of the image & sound quality. I just ordered the Shout! Factory release yesterday. I don't have any 4K equipment and my PC doesn't play it, which will result in having to spend money I don't have at the moment, but it's good to know for sure that the Blu-ray disc is also the new version.
I got this on black friday for 20 dollars . On the day that it was suppose to be delivered, amazon sent me an email stating for an unknown reason they didnt have a copy to send me and that they would ship it out in 2-3 weeks. I went on their web site and sure enough they had 2-3 weeks. It was in stock on amazon when i made the order. So i looked around at other places and couldnt find a new copy anywhere except for deep discount for 27 dollars so i ordered it very quickly from them. After all this is a limited eddition and i dont trust amazon to get it back in stock. The extra 7 dollars is nothing compared to missing out on this. Im sure there will be places for a long time selling it for 50 or more but not interested in that. Update deep discount order shipped already! Im not real happy with amazon this year. All six of my original star trek individual 4k releases still have not shipped and i do have a free trial month of amazon prime.. it seems like it is taking a week for my orders to even ship out. I would order from deep dicount but they dont have any of them for sale.

But then I thought 🤔 no matter how rude or nasty your comment was, that maybe you just never noticed or heard in dozens of my videos were I explained about my Severe Chronic Nerve Damage & Acute ongoing medical conditions that cause me to live daily in Severe Acute Pain. But I get severe nerve pain shakes & have to move to be able to contain sitting in a chair & holding anything for any length of time due to acute pain. All of this I have covered & explained numerous times in previous videos!

I like the DTS mono track the best on the SF release. The HDR color saturation on the SF disc is better than the Studio Canal as well.
