  • Hi guys and girls,
    in this video I´ll show you the routing of 2 SQs via the SLink option card and an AR2412 stagebox for an event at the end of September 2020. One Mixer for Livesound and Livemonitors and the other one for streaming. Thought it might be a good idea to a specific example rather than talking about that topic in general.
    Hope you´ll like it!
    Cheers!

    Wow man!! Im just starting in the mixing world and this(and your other vids) has helped me grasp some of the concepts that seem to be taken for granted by others. :-D
    Thank you so much!!!

    HI. I have to use a similar setup with 2 sq7s and a gx4816. I, who am at FOH, receive s-link signals but can I use my local ones for master out?. it is possible because I have a processor near the FOH connected to the sub and main which I reach via aes ebu of the FOH mixer

    Do you feel any difference between Ar2412 and dx168?

  • @AlbertoRosanoRos

    Thank you Andre! I think that monitor mixer have to send the tie lines received through SLink towards FOH mixer through I/O port. It's correct?

    Would you be able to play more than 48 channels using two sq consoles? Like using the 48 from one and some form the other one?

    Thank you for your video. I work for a very small AV company and we are looking to do a similar thing. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of just ordering all this stuff and trying it first, and I am not experienced enough with these mixers. One of our customers already has an SQ6 in place along with an AB168 under the desk for additional inputs ( they had an old 48 channel analog before). We are talking about adding an SQ5 in another room as a media production room to only mix for the stream. To do this we would need the additional SLink card in the current SQ6 and then connect the two via that and the SLink port on the new SQ5, then output all the 40 inputs after the preamp(or further down the chain if I would like) via the Tie Lines. Correct? Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge in this video and on the Allen and Heath forum!

      Hi Nate,
      that sounds almost correct to me. SQ6 as the centerpiece connected via build in SLink port to the AB168 and via the additional SLink card in the I/O slot ofthe SQ6 to the SQ5.
      On thing though: TieLines are connections directly behind the preamp with no processing whatsoever. Means: you can´t use TieLines to tap of the signal "further down the chain". You would have to use the direct outs. Those can be set to Post Preamp, Post HPF, Post Gate, Post Insert Return, Post Compressor or Post Delay. And you can trim the output level per channel individually.
      Hope that helps,
      André

      Great point Andre.
      I’d also like to add you could try starting out with running the mix for stream via iPad. We just got our iPad set up running and this is what we plan to do. I don’t know your current channel count but we (20 channels) have been toying with the idea of making a second set of our channels and apply seperate processing for the stream. Andre also has a video which inspired this idea. :)
      Our thoughts are to have someone in our “stream mixing” room listen to the mix on a phone and computer and mix using the iPad Mixpad app. Hopefully this all makes sense and again depending on your channel count could be an option for you.

    Were you using the stage SQ5 for the streaming?

    • @AndreSchaier
      @AndreSchaier  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi Tom,
      we used the FOH SQ for mixing the PA and Monitors and the other, here wrongly called SQ Monitor/Stream, for stream only. That SQ was in a room right next to the Stage.

    Hi
    I'm wondering why you're using direct output instead tie lines :-) ?
    Thanks for sharing with us.

    • @AndreSchaier
      @AndreSchaier  Před 2 lety

      Hi 0BarnabY7,
      there are 2 reasons:
      1) I have control over the dìrect out Levels (it is in the routing section of the SQ)
      2) The recorded wav files include Informationen in the metatext, where they were recorded from. If you use tielines the info says: local 1, local 2...slink 5, slink 6, etc. (Depending from which preamp you recorded from)
      If you use dìrect outs, the metatext includes the Names you gave your channels: Kick, Snr, etc...
      Hope that helps a bit!
      Cheers

    Nice setup! So, actually you use the MON SQ5 only for the stream? You say you mixed the monitors on the FOH SQ5, what surprises me in this setup. I would have done the MON mixing on the actual MON SQ5 as it is right besides the musicians.

    • @AndreSchaier
      @AndreSchaier  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mark,
      the thing was, that the Monitor/Streamboard had to be a streamboard only. The trainee at that SQ wasn´t able to mix monitors and Stream at the same time. Furthermore, to mix a good stream, the board was moved to another room, where he had no contact to the musicians at all, but could use his nearfields to mix.
      I had a good amount of time to get the monitors dialed in for every song also save a scene for every song. You can check out my video (czcams.com/video/dBu7TeMDK98/video.html) where I do a rundown of the setup. Or watch the Facebook livestream with Keith Johnson (of Allen&Heath) and my from Marc30, 2021(facebook.com/events/277047413869830)
      Hope that explains it all. 🤟🏻

      Hi Andre,
      That explains it perfectly! As you didn't mention this in the video, it made me wonder why, that's all. I'll check the other videos soon.
      Thanks, Mark

    Great job bro, just asking how do you manage head amp gain btw foh and mains ..when sharing io in tielines ?

    • @AndreSchaier
      @AndreSchaier  Před 3 lety

      Hey,
      the SQ, that is connected directly to the stagebox is always the gainmaster. If it´s the monitor desk and I am at the Front of House position, I would use iPad to remotely control the gain of the monitor desk.
      Hope, that helps!
      Cheers,
      André
