- I'd just landed the hangy when a man asks me if my wing is secure as a SAR heli is due any minute to take part in Kirby Stephen's Mountain Rescue Teams excersize and they dont want me to blow away.
He kindly invites me to join them to witness the event and I do actually get blown off my feet by the amazing Sea King helicopter. But its all in the best possible taste! LoL.
Yes I saw it & the repeat. It just re-inforced what we already knew, what a fantastic machine it really is.
I worked on the rigs off the Shelands in the 70's and travelled hundreds of miles in them, without a moments trepidation.
The only gripe being the often strong smell of kerosene in flight.
Hugh the Railmon.
There was a great documentary on the Sea King last night on BBC 2 - you'll be able to get it on the BBC iplayer if you missed it. Great video - as you say - so stable!
An amazing demonstration of the high standard of drill at SAR - they just "park" the helicopter and it is "standing" there like a Russian tank on its concrete base.
@collieultimo All ways good to hear from you Rainer. Your right, a very impressive machine, but lets not forget the skill of the crews.
Hugh
@981smithy Thanks Phil, yout too kind. I just stood and watched. The real heroes were those taking part.
Its a good job of of the rescue team came to tell me the heli was coming, otherwise I'd have thought 'They were coming to take me away, ha ha! LoL
As you could probably see, it was a dull, damp day. I'd been flying the hang glider between showers and it was colder than days in January. Mind you, adrenalin kept me warm & you know what they saw about adrenalin!
Rip sea king retired
Can't believe we're contracting this fantastic service out, it's an absolute disgrace,
