  • March 2008 & 71000 paid a unique visit to Toton MPD. In its day, Toton was one of the largest coal train marshalling yards in the UK but now it is the main depot for EWS.
I have to say that the staff at Toton were unbelievably friendly & helpful during our visit & I'd like to dedicate this video as a tribute to them. On arrival, we were met by almost the entire staff of the depot, including the depot manager. They extended their facilities to us, in an unprecedented manor.
This vid is a brief record of the visit, which was a prelude to a mainline railtour from Leicester to Chester the following weekend.

A very authentical video with a lot of fantastic pictures in it. There is one special picture in it, that brought back memories of my childhood. You filmed the steam of the loco passing by the cooling towers. As children we wanted to sit on the off wind side to see the steam of the loco passing away..
This video also is a highlight for friends of BR diesel.

Seriously I was trying to envisage an "unprecedented manor" - maybe some kind of 5 star crew lodging - when I realised that manor is a typo!
As always, thanks for the video. I am a 71000 fan despite her troubles.

Great video!! How i miss Toton now! I live north west of Glasgow now and i live right near the railway. It is great to see what is happening down there. Lovely to see a steamer on and around Toton. When going to Leicester was you traveling tender first or loco first? But anyway great video of the Duke!!

Was that Drax Power Station towards the end of the video section?
