  • A hang-glider pilots eye view of one of the most spectacular places in Britain, The Quiraing!
Dont watch if you suffer from vertigo as there is spinning motion, Etc.
There are no tastefully tuned tones on this video, so as not to infringe possible copyrights, The background sounds are those of the flight, the wind, the variometer & a minimum of ripe language, LoL.
The camera, a Sony Bloggie, is attached to the glider, not to a helmet. At less than a third of the price of a Go Pro or Contour, the Bloggie aquits its self quite well and its swivelling lens system lends itself readily to this type of activity.
The Quiraing, because of its remote location, isn't flown very often, but, I promise the adverturous, an experience never to be forgotten. It has easy access to a car park and take off from the edge of the car park. Even a catering van with some suprisingly exotic food like, Like Bison and other similar sandwiches. All from sustainable sources.
The best wind direction for soaring flight is East to SE. Skye has just enjoyed 4 months of unprecedented good weather, while the rest of the U.K. has been swimming.

Awesome views. When down on the floor looking up it is impressive but with this looking down gives a totally different additional perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Yes indeed, a mean flight. Although I have flown the Quiraing on a # of times in similar conditions, because we tend to get an assortment of forecasts from several prediction services & when they all agree, we head off up there at few hours notice. I have to be honest, I have never seen anyone climbing in the Quiraing, using rope access. Probably because of the reasons mentioned in your guide book. But perhaps thats the challenge? Having said that, the walks into the Quiraing are mind blowing!

That's the weird part Gary, I jibed at the fence beyond Needle rock, yet think nothing of gliding a few grand up, on a wing & a prayer you might say!
Where you carried on into that huge bowl, It was in fact the Caldera of a large volcano, one of many on Skye and the Cullins and traversing it looked slightly hairy. When I was there 2 weeks ago, all the waterfalls in it were frozen and looked bloody impressive from the road.

Yes its ultra spectacular. Especially the seascape scenery in all directions.
Skye's volcanic terrain is unique in Europe and to get sublime flying conditions like this are rare. Have a look at a clip on YouBoob called, 'Paramotoring Scotland May 2012' It shows Skye at its beautiful best.
Had a look at your vid and it would freak me out having such restricted landind areas, though you made it look easy! LoL.

Yes Kev & the modellers are up in arms about it, talking about involving the BMFA because no notice of the changes to this model soaring site of at least 70 years standing, were posted, as they are supposed to.
It beggars belief that in this period of extreme austerity, United Utilities rub our faces in it with spending on something like that!
