    flat flange of the rivet should have rested on top. When done that is one side of the rivet and the rivet gun pulls the round part towards the flange making another one.

      Makes sense, thanks for the heads up, I wasn't too familiar with riveting when I did this. They're still pretty tight and secure, but good heads up for anyone who comes across this and does the rivets in the future.

      That rivet isn’t functioning at all…. I’m not sure how it’s even holding anything

    Bless your soul, your entire existence. I've been trying to find an in depth demonstration for months, i haven't been able to wash my car because of sealing issues. Finally got my e46 sunroof working and it's all thanks to you

    Jesus Christ, it's one expensive repair kit, I mean, holy smokes 400$ for just a sunroof repair. Thanks for the video man, it helped me to understand why mine was failing - that thing that slides together with shade, mine tends to bypass it as it's too lose? Anyway, ty.

    • @RepairDude
      @RepairDude  Před 2 lety

      Yeah if it's the sliders on your shade, rather than the sunroof glass, that are broken it can be an easy replacement as long as the metal clips on your shade are still intact. Even if they are broken, quick trip to the junkyard can find you a new sunshade. If the sunroof track is broken then yeah you gotta do this full on repair.

    The driver side of the sunroof stopped working so I took of the glass and the slide you have at 6:30 is bent and completely off. Do you have to buy the hole kit? Do I have to remove the cassette to replace that one part?

    Great video.
    Hoping you could help me. After having the sunshade clips replaced and doing some maintenance cleaning on the sunroof channels, i notice that when in the up/tilted position, the carrier unit on the driver’s side is lower than the carrier on the passenger’s side. This is the apparent issue causing the sunroof glass to sag/fit loosely even with all 6 torx bolts tightened.
    How can i go about to fix this?

    • @RepairDude
      @RepairDude  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't understand what you mean by carrier unit. Sometimes when adding the glass back to the sunroof track it doesn't align evenly right away, is that what you're having trouble with?
      Edit: Lol. Just realized what you mean. That's an issue with just how you have the glass seated in the unit. IIRC there's a notch on the "carrier unit" arm that you want to have lined up with the glass so that it sits evenly, there are other tutorials on reinstalling the sunroof glass that most likely cover this. Just play around with it, push up on the left and the right until it sits properly.

      Hey, I don't speak Spanish (or at least not well) but I do understand your question. If your cable is broken, chances are it's jutting out of the sunroof cassette and can be removed, I believe there are torx screws that hold a cover on the front that gives you access to the cable. You'll need to remove the cassette from your car to do this. Then, you can go to the junkyard and find a sunroof cassette, remove it, and then take what you need: it could be you need just the cable, or it might be the case that you need the full cassette. You should be able to tell when you remove your busted cable what you'll need. Then, in theory, you can replace it on yours. A lot of people recommend just getting the full cassette from the junkyard rather than bother with swapping the cables, which makes sense, it's more work to do the cable.

    do you have the part numbers for what you purchased from bmw? the sliders and frame corner cups in particular, they don't seem to exist on the parts fiche on realoem, and repair kits seem to only have the driver's side of the repair and i'd rather do both sides if i have to pull the whole thing down

    • @RepairDude
      @RepairDude  Před 2 lety

      To my understanding the corner cups aren't sold separately, and I'm not aware of a third party manufacturer who makes them since they're pretty low demand items. The slider is only on the driver's side so you should be good there. The sunshade clips/sliders you can find third party replicas, but the sunroof glass is just moved by the single slider on the driver side.

    • @Rymelz
      @Rymelz Před 2 lety

      @@RepairDude you replaced them both, but the passenger side slider cannot be removed unless the corner cup is also removed. The BMW repair kit seems to only show the left half as a repair, unless I'm misunderstanding it
