Same Problem on mine, just bought an E46 with a few issues like this one, Thank you Justin for the link! I have been searching for the replacement kit, to no avail, and here I found it best, now to order and replace!
I'm sure this has since been fixed since it's been over two years, but the comment below are correct regarding the cassette - it's common for them to break, and even though one side of the track operates fine and the other gets jammed, the entire cassette still needs to be replaced with a known-functional one, or buy a cassette repair kit online that contains the proper replacement clips that replace the failed broken ones that caused the problem. In all honesty, I'm jealous to hear your door chime complaining throughout the whole video since your driver door was open - my door switch is bad and even though that chime is annoying as hell, I miss it since mine kicked the bucket (one of the next most-common E46 issues).
I recently did mine and all that was wrong was it was coming off the track of the cassette, I tore my roof off and took the sunroof off and cleaned it up and re bolted the cassette so it was tighter together and lived it all up and put it back and it works perfect now
You're very lucky! Most of the time, the entire sunroof cassette assembly craps the bed and needs to be replaced. I've seen a few instances where it's just dried grease and a simple re-lube can fix the problem, but I can seriously count on just one hand how many people I've seen get lucky like you, most others (including myself) suffer from the entire cassette assembly screwing the pooch and having to replace the whole thing to get the sunroof back. Glad it worked out for you though!

It was a bit of a hassle at first and I didn't think I would be able to fix it but after reading for hours and hours about different problems with them,I seen the metal bracket wasn't bolted down right enough or something wasn't right enough so the beads were flying right off ! Wish I took a video to post how to do it..

Bilyk hey I know this comment is three years old but I am like desperate right now trying to figure out I just purchased a BMW 325I series and the sunroof is making that like stuck sound it won’t go back and it’s going to rain and we’re supposed have a really bad storm tonight and I do not have a garage so I’m like freaking out because it’s really nice inside I don’t want it to get messed up and I’m like I don’t know what to do I’ve looked at a few CZcams videos but like at first I thought it was like the reset or whatever they were saying but it’s not I don’t think I don’t think it is at least do you know how I could possibly fix thisOr at least ensure that it will not get damaged inside for the night thank you and I hope that you get this

Bilyk what exactly is I know this may sound stupid but I’ve never had to replace a sunroof this is my first BMW that I’ve owned and I know that parts can be expensive so I’m trying my best to fix it on my own but what exactly is a cassette assembly and if there’s anything that you can think of that I can try right now it’s just making that really nasty like stuck loud sound it’s like if somethings blocking it from moving

Mujica, Jr. Hey I know this comment is extremely old however I’m hoping that you see this because I just bought a car it’s actually a BMW and I am literally having that same exact sound however my sunroof is not even moving barely moves about an inch and then it starts making that really loud stuck sound do you know how to fix this or what I could possibly do thank you so much
IM HAVING THE DAMN SAME PROBLEM MY CAR IS DUE TO GO TO BMW THEY ARE BOOKED UP UNTILL THE 22ND. IF U GET UR FIXED PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF U DONT FIX IT BEFORE MY SCHEDULE TO BMW ILL LET U KNOW WHATS THE PROBLEM FRIEND

I don't know exactly how to help you but I have the same issue with that same side. I'm taking down the whole headliner to get to the problem

Its about the regulator, it has two sides.
But you have to change both of them.
Hello unfortunatly once the sunroof has that problem, its best to replace the whole sunroof cassette. Its the shurest way to take care of the problem.
I ran into this video which shows the same issue I have. I will take a look and post a video on how to fix this if possible.
