    I want to clarify my statement at the end in case it was confusing, I think without a doubt Legacy and SixZero are a much better value than the CRBN1X. Same type of tech, but way cheaper. They absolutely perform just as well. It's going to come down to the small differences in feel between the paddle that may make you want to pick one over the other.

      Got it so don’t buy this because the other paddles are same/better for $70-80 less. Bye CRBN you greedy bois

      @danpiedra3910 Pƙed rokem +3

      There are likely slight differences in how each feels but it is tough to drop $80+ for the CRBN1 when the Legacy is almost identical and in your spin test outperformed the Power Air.

      @@padenlocke2060 Idk which one he is referring too, but the Black Diamond is the power version and the Double Black Diamond is the control version. The difference is the face material. Black Diamond has the first ever raw composite face. Double Black Diamond has T700 raw carbon fiber.

    Awesome review, thanks Chris! I received both the CRBN 1X & 2X (16mm) yesterday and am even more stoked to play with them after watching your video! I agree the 2X handle feels a little more boxy than the 1X but the length and circumference on both feel better to me than the Hyperion. It’s gonna be interesting to see how long the grit on the paddle face lasts because after 4 months with the Ben Johns paddle the forehand side is completely smooth at the sweet spot. I honestly don’t believe a word the PPA says about their paddle grit tests. The Selkirk 002 and Power Air are two of the grittiest paddles I’ve ever felt and I’ve never heard a word about either of them failing. For CRBN to replace all their paddles at their own cost says enough to me about the company, so I’d much rather support them then go with a similar paddle that’s cheaper.

    • @danpiedra3910
      @danpiedra3910 Pƙed rokem +2

      Very good point about supporting a company that bent over backwards to accommodate their present and future clients. You never see larger companies like Selkirk or Paddletek get pointed out for anything. Is much rather support smaller companies that are providing a great product.

  • @Jadrianson
    @Jadrianson Pƙed rokem +1

    Great review, as always. I didn't heed your advice ahead of time and went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Joola BJ Hyperion CFS 14mm (non-swift) as I was coming from the Power Air and wanted something with slightly less power and a little more feel. But after watching this review and playing with what I got, I think I made the right choice. Too much head weight and not enough whippy-ness (is that a word? lol) was my complaint with the 16mm Hyperion and with a little lead tape on the throat and handle of the 14mm, it plays perfectly for my style of game. These sound like I would either have that same issue with the 16 or back to having too much power with the 14. I also hit the ball pretty damn hard and haven't had any issues with clicking or weakness in my Joola so far. đŸ€žđŸ» So overall, glad these are a great option for people, but that 14mm Hyperion hit the goldilocks zone for me personally. Keep up the great work, sir! đŸ‘đŸ»

    Hey Chris, I think a really great segment to add to your videos would be a spin test when you first get the paddles versus when you are done with your playtest. To basically be able to say how durable the face of the paddle is, and how long it will keep its spin. Thanks for another great review! I would love to see a review on the Legacy Pro!!

    GREAT review. I was an early fan of CRBN before the ban. Then CRBN's response to the ban (offering to replace the original paddles or keep them and get a new one at a substantially reduced price plus an perpetual company discount on future products) won me over with tremendous customer service. I'd go with CRBN even at a higher price over the competitors for that reason, though it's a close call given the size of the price difference.

    • @cwarner5909
      @cwarner5909 Pƙed rokem +1

      I would agree with you since I own three CRBN paddles one which I had before the controversy. But they came out to price aggressive with the 1x/2x series when there are very similar paddles offered at $80-$90 less that's just to much of a price difference to have a different logo on your paddle.

    • @jerryw9303
      @jerryw9303 Pƙed rokem +2

      I totally agree. Once you throw in Chris's discount code it's even easier to go with a CRBNx. This company not only stood behind their product during the recall but went well beyond what they needed to do to make it right. People always talk about wanting to experience great customer service. This is how you support a company for their efforts IMO. I'm not downplaying the impact of these added dollars because of anyone's financial position. I get it but I look at the quality of the paddle and the track record of the company manufacturing it.

    Very informative review, Chris! I'm currently playing with the Icon, so I love the pop and "whippiness" I can do with it in hand battles. My icon is very thin, as you know, and seems to have very little dwell time, which I've adjusted to over the couple years I've been playing with it. Having said that, the tech seems to be progressing so fast, so looking at possibly upgrading. The 14mm 1x seems to be similar to my icon. Would that be a fair assessment? And the Legacy Pro sounds very interesting...love that spin rate!!!. Coming from tennis, I love as much spin as I can get--one reason why I love the icon and it's "ping pong paddle" like surface (yes, I know it didn't get super high numbers but it seems very grippy to me--maybe a mental thing). I might have to bight the bullet and give the Legacy Pro a try. Thanks again!

  • @traderfjp

    Good job. You are very articulate and thorough. I just got my 3x paddle today. I'm excited to give it a try. I had a BD and DBD paddle but sold them. There are great all court paddles but I felt they had too much pop. I hope I like the 3X. My go to paddle right now is the Neonic Flow. I tried a Vatic Pro too but found it too similar to the Neonic which has more power and excellent control. Both of these paddles are plush and easy to play with. Better than my DBD, imho. I also have an Infinity DBD coming and will eventually settle on one more paddle to compliment the Neonic Flow. The Infinity is edgeless so I wanted to give that a try. I will probably had some weight to the sides to increase swing weight. What a great sport that allows so many people to participate and get healthy.

    Chris outstanding video as usual on the much-anticipated CRBN power line. What I'm more interested in is the three cheaper options. I'm looking forward to hearing about what those other options swing weights are. I think the CRBN 1X is the version I would choose but the swing weight is somewhat concerning. I don't find it too heavy to swing but I get irritation in my elbow. I'm thinking Diadem will be following this same path with their new models to be released this year. At most likely the same price as the CRBN's. As a total gear head this new technology is so cool. You should have Brayden on one of your podcasts. As the two top paddle reviewers in the business, it would be great to hear you guys compare ideas and experiences. I'm almost positive I've played with the left hander in your video in Inver Grove. Is his name Chris as well? Are you filming at Lifetime? Thanks Chris great job.

    Thanks Chris another great and timely review. Cool how the technology in the sport is progressing. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on those other new paddles using similar technologies. One thought on spin rates. I heard a review mentioning a difference in the orientation of the weave used in carbon fiber faces. The idea was that when the long strands are running top to bottom it behaves more like the strings on a tennis racquet as that is the orientation of the paddle most often when trying to impart spin. Sadly, I can’t remember right now who the review was by or for what paddle. Does this sound familiar or even make sense?

As someone who play with the original 1 for 6 months I was thinking the new power series would give me even more power, but the new foam injection feels like the paddle is dead. I’m someone who already has power and with the new 1x series I feel like I have to swing even harder to create power on ground stokes. The paddle has the spin but control is something that is harder to get. The 1x feels slower on fire fights and doesn’t go through the air as quickly as the original series. I got a 2x 16. Totally dead also. No Power. Less than OG CRBN. I didn't understand why and returned it. Later heard DJ's interview where he said his "CRBNx is not a good paddle", until he breaks it in. I didn't keep mine long enough for that to happen perhaps but I don't agree that it should happen. In my club, we've had four X's delaminate now. That is everybody I know who bought one. In each case, the owner has told me that their paddle felt amazing, great, so much pop, and then too much pop and uncontrollable. Now we have multiple podcasts and youtube vids explaining that phenomenon. This sweet spot time after breaking in may in fact just be a manifestation of the defect (buckled core/delam) that feels good for a while. CRBN has not provided any information on the root cause or how they will prevent recurrence of the problem. They will just ship you a new one. We are in the dark. If the ultimate solution changes the feel and pop that everybody likes, then that would also be bad.

If you're concerned that 16mm is too heavy or not maneuverable, it shouldn't be an issue at all with the 2X because the swing weight is super low. Great reviews , however until some reviewer starts rating paddles with scientific testing, the reviews are all like you opine :my opinion: and are sophmoric guides at best.For rating paddles for power I suggest the following
    Pickleball paddles can be rated like Aluminum baseball bats which use BBCOR, or Batted Ball CoEfficient of Restitution. This is a scientific measure which measures the exit speed of a ball once it is struck by an object,ie pickleball paddle and pickleball.For a simplistic definition this measure the "trampoline" effect of the surface the ball is hitting. For that matter pickleballs could also be rated and standardized with this measurement BBCOR .The measurement of a softball is done by a COR Rating , or coefficient of Restitution. There is a reason aluminum bats are used, Bat Manufactuers made bats out of Titanium, but the COR was so high that any average hitter could hit a ball over the fence The Titanium bats were dangerous and banned .As the paddle makers keep making the latest and greatest paddle I feel they will find these exotic materials(like carbonfiber,kevlar,nomex ) being discovered ,then it will be a race with no standards or guidelines,This will be bad for the everyday pickleball player,who wants to play pickleball when your opponent has a rocket, and you have a pickleball paddle.
