From working poorly under an overseer they didn't like to get him fired, to learning how to read against the master's will, to leaving the plantation at night to meet with other slaves, to running away to the North, to running away and coming back to wreak havock, to full on rebellions and murder. "God was responsible for bringing an end to slavery" said nobody in their right mind, ever.
The plantation owners, never, ever, ever taught them to read. Nat Turner’s rebellion taught the slave owners not to allow slaves to read or write.
Nat Turner's rebellion happened in 1831. There was over 200 years of American slavery before that. Every once in a while the slaves were taught to read. For evidence read Frederick Douglass' book "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass." His education began when the mistress began to teach him to read. Her husband made her stop teaching him so he had to continue his education on his own in secret. I wouldn't say it was normal to teach slaves to read, but never is an exaggeration and untrue.
I'm sure a few owners taught their slaves to read, but only to teach the Bible or assist processing profits.
If it were "never, ever, ever" then the slave owners wouldn't have needed a rebellion to teach them that lesson
Yeah, it was illegal in most states to teach your slaves
After the slave revolt led by Nat Turner in 1831, all slave states except Maryland, Kentucky, and Tennessee passed laws against teaching slaves to read and write.
That "preaching" was probably the most ignorant thing I have ever heard.
There's more where that came from...
It’s pretty standard for these *Levitical law* loving Christians.
They still don’t understand the point their Christ was murdered for making over 2000 years ago, according to their story.
If you look at it that way, it’s almost understandable that they are still lagging behind the human rights found in our world today. 🤦🏼♀️
In the 1930s, textbooks showed most US slaves as happy with their lot, because they were allowed freedom to dance and make music after their cotton picking hours were ended. That was a load of crap.
I would not be surprised if Ron DeSantis and his ilk bring this back for their textbooks.

It’s hilarious, because W. E. B. Dubois also makes the point about how many slaves turned to religion and that this was facilitated by slave owners, and how they “humbled themselves”. Thing is, Dubois highlights that this was a method of control, to de-fang and distract slaves from their plight.
Yet the Civil Rights Movement was led by Black churchmen and organized in Black churches. Religion is an ambiguous thing that can be used for oppression and for liberation from it.
Absolutely. Christianity's rhetoric that some afterlife is all that matters, so accept whatever God hands you in this life because you'll be rewarded later for suffering a lot now? Brilliantly useful to slaveowners.

I have always wondered whether Anna Duggar grew up in an abusive household because of the way she has accepted her husband's crimes and tried to excuse them. Now I see her father excusing the horrific abuse of slavery, talking about how the enslaved people needed to 'repent', needed to stay obedient, with no mention of the need of the repentance for those who inflicted the horrors of slavery. This alone raises serious alarm bells about generational abuse within his own household and within the IBLP cult, without even getting into the racist, revisionist, claptrap he's spouting. It amounts to 'if you pray enough, the bad things will go away, so if they're still happening it must be because you didn't repent, or you didn't pray hard enough'. That's not just terrible history, that's spiritual and emotional abuse.
I hope law enforcement and CPS is investigating what might have gone on their own household. Some of their kids are girls. You have to wonder if they've been molested by their father. If he'd molest his little sisters, what's to stop him from diddling his own daughters? And that stupid doormat Anna sticks with the pig? I know she's got no life skills except cooking, cleaning, and squatting out babies, but Jesus Christ - you have to draw the line somewhere and get yourself and your kids out of a terrible situation and as far away as you can. There is help out there for people escaping a situation like that, and absolutely no percentage in hanging around waiting for the loser to get out of prison, or hanging out with his sicko family.
That whole family tree seems to need running through a woodchipper, what...
That's what religion does to people.

It was illegal to teach a slave to read - because the slave owners understood that literate slaves might read material that disparaged the institution of slavery and they might be in a position to write to each other and plan ways of becoming ex-slaves.

Lincoln knew he was speaking to pro slavery people, and so specifically singled out his official view as the president of the US. From what I've heard, while he wasn't perfect, he did find slavery odious. And did at first plan to send the freed slaves back to Africa, but later changed his mind.
Things like this makes me wonder if they teach you anything but the pledge of allegiance (and that one is creepy) when you go to school in USA?
The primary purpose of public education in the US is and has always been to prepare students for the 8-to-5 schedule of the average workday.
When public education was first being introduced, conservative organizations would not get on board until it was pitched as a training regimen for bringing new worker drones into the labor force.
Actual education has always been a lesser priority beyond teaching conformity, adherence to schedule, obedience to authority figures, and accustomization to taking work home to be performed during out-of-work time as preparation for the expectation of performing Extra unpaid labor.
It’s incredibly varied, as is everything here. The US has some of the world’s worst public schools and some of the best. Schools in blue states near major universities are typically purely secular and emphasize critical thinking. Rural schools in the south typically… well… aren’t that. Then there’s everything in between.

These religious people believed they had a divine right to own slaves and did so because of it and now they are gonna claim it was them that stopped slavery? WOW!
I love how they swoop in and use these things for their control. Like when they use our science in their religion now after who knows how many millions of people was murdered thinking outside the box. I mean now they claim our billions of years old universe is still in his 7 days of creation because his days are not timed out the same. I go so it took one of his days and billions of our years to make the whole universe but it took the same one day to make just a rock that later he will add things to it and call it Earth. So why did it take him so long to make earth in his one day when he did the whole universe in another one of his single days?
These people never think their reason and logic circuits are fried. The first thing cults do is to fry them and destroy them knowing thats its worse enemy.

That was the same reason, why the church in the Middle Ages was evangelizing so much and bringing Jesus to the poor: To keep them quiet. Here you are just a pauper or enslaved worker, but wait until you have been worked to death and you will get a surprise!....Not telling them that the surprise after death is...BEING DEAD AND HAVING YOUR BODY DECOMPOSE!! Don't like someone's sexual orientation or gender expression? Pray about it and wait on God.
Don't like certain books or movies? Pray about it and wait on God.
Don't like equality, diversity, or inclusion initiatives? Pray about it and wait on God.
But that wouldn't help serve the GOP's interests now, would it?!
They don't pray to God to abolish the things they don't like because they know nothing will happen. And whenever they pray and things don't go their way, their answer is always, "Well, that just proves it's God's will."
So, if they pray for God to abolish all the things they don't like: (the pro choice, pro racial equality, pro freedom, pro environment, pro gun control, anti fascist, pro freedom from religion-biased government, etc., and nothing happens, then they would be forced to admit these things must be God's will. And they're not about to do that.
So when anything is REALLY important to them, they don't sit around waiting for God to answer prayers, they take matters into their own hands. All their so-called "belief", and "faith", is just wishful-thinking hypocrisy. When they're really serious about getting rid of something, they act on it themselves; they know that waiting for God does not accomplish their goals.

That kind of mentality and perspective never helps anyone, it just furthers those people from any sort of reality, and they only want their perspective and not to be open to other thoughts. I can’t tell you how many times growing up that i have been told to be the “golden child/good little Christian girl” and being expected to take care of a sick little brother and virtually torn apart family. Id say if the Christians really looked into themselves and stopped the feigned or blatant ignorance, maybe we could all get somewhere without some political or historical bloodshed; crimes in all places and from all people happen yes. But the fact they do not condemn themselves for it and justify it with the bible just irks me. I have gone through verbal and physical abuse due to my circumstances and family, so this was definitely a good listen.
Another thing would be people definitely need to look into history more. Regardless if it is not in their opinions range, ive read up on the civil wars, and the early American history, and even up to current. People never learn, hopefully people stop allowing blissful ignorance so we can all chill in a little bit of peace for once.
Oh Wow!
I am so deeply ashamed of myself.
Cacti & Tropicals are my hobby; and sometimes Sh-(Bugs)-It happens and you become distracted.
I last watched the end of the Exodus series.
Wow i have soooo many videos to catch up on! I feel ashamed of myself!!

Do you think he knows just how bad this sounds, or do you think he's so deluded that he thinks this is a good argument?
Never mind, he's probably that deluded.
From the title of the video you know the preacher is coming in with a shovel but it’s still impressive when he breaks ground about 2 sentences in and from then you’re just wondering how deep a grave he can dig for himself.
Insightful and well said💯💯
As far as slaves learning to read to read the Bible. They used the slave Bible which omitted key passages that could incite rebellion.
Lmao “ they prayed and turned from their wicked ways” lmao 🤣. They are literally SICK in the mind, body, and their SOULS.
The word, "christian" literally means, "christ-like". These people clearly don't understand that 🙄
No one could. That creature would have had to exist first.
"The Blacks!?" I nearly spit my coffee out laughing.
THE ENTIRE CIVIL WAR WAS A PROTEST! Every slave who ever ran away, or attempted to run away, from his tormentors was protesting his/her servitude.
I suppose it makes sense that the slave owners would use the guidebook inspired by the original slave owner to train their slaves.
They probably taught reading so they could read the rules of slave ownership in the bible.
"See, it says I can beat you as much as I want as long as you don't die."
"Oh wait, you're now wondering about those that have died from the beatings? It sounds like you're questioning the Lord's word now."

I love it when it cuts to you looking at the camera saying, "You know this is going to be some racist shit when the first line involves 'The Blacks.' " I'm a 70-year-old white guy and I just realized that those are two words I have never said nor written my entire life (until right now) and those two words are, "The Blacks." I've been a subscriber to your channel for a while and it wasn't until right now that I noticed you are black.
I don’t think anyone should preach while drunk 🥴
Heh. I have a hunch that with this guy it might actually help...if he does know any truth, the booze might let it leak out...
Wow. He really went there. 😲
CHRISTIANS!!! am I right 😏
It's actually pretty common among fundies...
Dear Pastor Mike:
If Christianity was true this world would not be filled with people that you and your god don't like.
His line about the slaves not going to Washington to protest slavery (with that incredulous smirk on his face as if it was obvious to himself and no one else) was the most ignorant rubbish I have ever heard coming from any public speaker, and I am in my 60s.
BuT pRoLiFeeeeeeeeeeee
Four things that I hope every black Christian that hears this one, takes away from it.
1. He called slave owners “good people” while calling slaves “wicked.”
2. There’s no hate quite like Christian love.
3. If you’re anything like me, then you probably don’t have enough hatred and indecency in you to be a Christian.
4. If you’re black and Christian, you have a very short memory. And please spare me the whole “well Christianity was already in Ethiopia” BS. Look at how that’s worked out for them.
Hey, The New Yorker recently did an interesting piece about the sabbath and the idea of it being a radical idea for rest-- a kind of worker's rights effort within religion. I thought the essay was pretty thoughtful and interesting, even as an atheist. I'd be interested to see you cover it.
Dear Sir,
Since this is quite unsoliced, but also on a public forum.
Thank you for asserting my rights (I am 60+ gay). That you
have childern means you are probably a good person. (I did
watch your Christian parenting vid. I am not athiest, but
I do consider my self agnostic. I love some of the teachings
of Jesus - Total liberal ideals. However, I see the christofacists
taking over my world.
Again thank you for your support (oddly a vet too :))
As the son of a LEGIT minister I can verify that these people ARE NOT Christian,
The Bible does not condemn slavery, but only urges masters and slaves to be "kind" to one another. It does not show the basic moral sense to realize that slavery is an affront to human dignity and is inherently "unkind". This one example alone ought to be enough to conclude that the Bible does not represent " the inerrant word of God".
Thanks for the video
Better to be an agnostic
than a hypocrite.
Quite...
