The worst part is that there are so many ways to resolve this that would likely be legal. Say they open it up for rentals, they then make a clause that they will only allow long term leasing and not events that only take place once or over a 1-2 day period. Rental periods are pre-defined time slots, including the sunday slot. The church negotiates a 10 year lease at market rate, and everyone else gets to fight over whatever is left as far as times the town isn't using it. This isn't legally unproblematic, but work on the policy for a bit more than 30 seconds and you should have gotten pretty far I'd say. Although, the best solution is definitely to not attempt to make a policy that is designed to break the intent, if not the letter, of the law.

We as a society are aware of the issues in the foster care/adoption system but when they actually do right by these vulnerable kids, they get sued by bigots. They admit they can’t provide equal protection, patience or acceptance of kids that are not just like them and that right there shows they’re not suited for this enormous responsibility. They want to hide behind religion, but pretty sure Jesus would be ashamed of them & what they’re doing.

I presume that anyone may attend the church's Sunday morning service. Perhaps people need to start showing up to make their lives less easy. Like, I dunno, asking questions about god and its existence, and why aren't you paying $25k/week?

I remember when this story came out and KOMO 4 news called it a "massive win for religious freedom". Absolutely disgraceful.

I live in CO. Dillon is a small town. It's like 1k people. It suffers from the same issue other small towns suffer from. They cut corners and disregard inconvenient rules/laws and get away with it because who cares about a town of 1000 people? They are about to find out that their little town isn't special and the constitution applies to them.

I think that leaves out Moses, and God as law givers, regardless of separation of church and state.

They probably could get away with a "locals first" policy, provided it gives just as much benefit to "The Dillon Aquatransexual Appreciation Society" as "The Dillon Community Church". It's also easy to justify based on the amphitheater being for the benefit of the community.
