Funny how breaking it down by decades means a player like Shaq gets forgotten. If the "decade" was 1995 to 2005, Shaq would've most definitely been at the top. But Shaq shared most of the 90s with MJ, and was on the decline after 2005. So...

For the most part, MJ was still the best from 95-98, then Shaq from 98-02, in the 02-03 season Kobe was just better simply because Shaq didn't play as much and he came into his own, too bad Kobe got injured in the 03-04 season on his shooting arm and was forced to play injured in the playoffs, they would have won against the spurs had they both been fully healthy.

@@Soldier979 you’re not wrong and Shaq was incredibly clutch. However Kobe also led all playoff players in fourth quarter scoring in the 2001 and 2002 playoff runs and averaged 28 ppg to shaqs 29 ppg. Not to mention a number of games shaq fouled out or was pulled on the fourth during those playoff runs due to hack a shaq and gave up a lot of points on defense. Shaq never won before playing with Kobe as well and rarely found success after despite playing with incredible talent almost every year he was in the league. It’s easy to knock Kobe but it can be easy to knock shaq too. That’s what makes them a duo

@@StephenDeiss "X doesn't win Y without Z" is such a bad argument. Jordan wouldn't have double-three-peated without Pippen -- true, but irrelevant to the fact that Jordan was far and away the MVP of those teams. Kobe, on the other hand, was never the clear-cut MVP on any of his championship teams.
      Regular seasons:
      1999-00: Shaq 18.6 WS, Kobe 10.6 WS // Shaq 9.0 VORP, Kobe 4.5 VORP
      2000-01: Shaq 14.9 WS, Kobe 11.3 WS // Shaq 7.1 VORP, Kobe 4.7 VORP
      2001-02: Shaq 13.2 WS, Kobe 12.7 WS // Shaq 6.1 VORP, Kobe 5.2 VORP
      2008-09: Gasol 13.9 WS, Kobe 12.7 WS // Kobe 5.9 VORP, Gasol 5.0 VORP
      2009-10: Gasol 11.0 WS, Kobe 9.4 WS // Kobe 4.4 VORP, Gasol 4.2 VORP
      Playoffs:
      2000: Shaq 4.7 WS, Kobe 2.1 WS // Shaq 2.6 VORP, Kobe 1.4 VORP
      2001: Kobe 3.8 WS, Shaq 3.7 WS // Kobe 1.5 VORP, Shaq 1.4 VORP
      2002: Shaq 3.8 WS, Kobe 2.6 WS // Shaq 1.9 VORP, Kobe 1.3 VORP
      2009: Kobe 4.7 WS, Gasol 4.3 WS // Kobe 2.6 VORP, Gasol 1.7 VORP
      2010: Gasol 4.3 WS, Kobe 3.6 WS // Kobe 2.1 VORP, Gasol 1.8 VORP
(WS = Win shares, VORP = Value over replacement player)
So, in conclusion, he was *very slightly* the best player on a championship team like...*maybe* two times out of five?
Also, he never once led the league in VORP in 20 seasons. He came in 2nd a mere one time. He never once led the league in WS. He never once came in 2nd or even 3rd in WS. He came in 4th three times.
Did he deserve to be a multiple-time All-star? Absolutely. But to claim he somehow deserved more accolades than he got is ridiculous. He won the 2007-08 MVP despite being 4th in WS and 3rd in VORP. He won the 2010 Finals MVP when it easily could have gone to either him or Gasol. He was on the All-Defensive team 9 times (tied for the most selections ever), despite only being in the top 10 in defensive win shares once in his entire career (and he was 10th that one time) -- to put that into perspective and compare it with some other guards, Jordan was in the top 10 in DWS 8 times, Kidd 5 times, Stockton 4 times, Rondo 4 times, Blaylock 4 times, C. Paul 2 times.
People frequently put him in their top 10 all-time, and many even in their top 5 or top 3. What other player frequently makes top 10 all-time lists despite never having cracked into the TOP 3 in WS once in their entire career? Let's see:
Jordan: 1st nine times, 2nd two times
Lebron: 1st nine times, 2nd two times
Kareem: 1st nine times, 2nd one time
Wilt: 1st eight times, 2nd three times
      Harden: 1st five times
      K. Malone: 1st three times, 2nd three times
      Jokic: 1st three times
Dirk: 1st two times, 2nd three times
Shaq: 1st two times, 2nd three times
Robinson: 1st two times, 2nd two times
Bird: 1st two times, 2nd two times
      M. Malone: 1st two times, 2nd one time
      Garnett: 1st two times
      Duncan: 1st two times
      O. Robertson: 1st one time, 2nd four times
Durant: 1st one time, 2nd three times
      C. Paul: 1st one time, 2nd three times
Dantley: 1st one time, 2nd two times
      Russell: 2nd two times
In conclusion, Kobe Bryant is the most overrated played in the history of basketball. He was a gifted All-Star and a champion, no doubt. He was not, however, a top 10 all-time player.

Steph only dominated the turn of the decade. For 4 seasons only. And he did it with the best catch and shooter in nba history and kd. A walking cheat code. And it has recently been proven that curry can’t lead a team to even make the playoffs on his own. Hakeem dominated one season. The only season that Jordan was busy playing baseball. Duncan Wins in the 2000s for my money. Duncan's overshadowing isn't hard to understand, his game didn't have the flash or power of most of the NBAs other big names, even pundits called the 2003 team that won the championship, boring to watch. That's the thing that makes Duncan so great, he was so good and so consistent and so predictable, that you were bored watching because you knew what was coming, and yet nobody could stop him. Coming off a finals MVP in 1999 for the shortened season Duncan was a model of consistency, winning, and ultimate fundamental skill. There is a reason he was known as Mr. Fundamental, he had every bit of the most basic parts of the game down so well, he only needed a couple moves and he'd get his buckets. Nobody knew how to shoot a better bank shot or use simple techniques to get what they wanted and needed. Man never let his team finish with a below 50 win record for the entire decade while averaging 20pts 10rbs and 2blks. If you look at the per 36 for his career of 19 seasons, it is so absurdly consistent, you can't believe it's the same guy from year 1 to year 19.

Yes, but 'skill' is more than just scoring. Wilt was obviously more skilled than Bill at scoring, but Bill was arguably a better rebounder, a much better defender in general, specifically a better shot blocker, much better passer, and less selfish, which allowed others in the offense to flourish, thus fostering a more team oriented style of play which was obviously the path to winning consistently. They were 'skilled' in different ways. Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan are the two most dominant scorers of all time, but Bill Russell and LeBron James are the two most consistent and effective leaders of all time.

I'm older than most here. I witness the merging of the NBA and the ABA in the 70's. That merger bought forth the GOAT who put the NBA into the American conscience. Dr. J. Most don't know it, but TV use to go off. 12:00 midnight, the National Anthem, TV go off. Dr. J. was so exciting, people wanted to see him and the NBA. In the 80's the internet was made available to the masses. Remember AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy? The 80's had Magic and Bird. 2 Goats going head to head. And the internet got popular and TV forgot how to turn off. Then the 90. MJ. 3 peat, took 2 years off then another 3 peat. 90 GOAT. 2000's. Kobe. Damn near another MJ, 5 Rings 3 with Shaq and 2 with Gasol. 2010, The new King arrives, Lebron James. He had to leave Cleveland, go the Miami, where there was already a NBA champ, Wade, where he learned how to lead and become a Champ. He won 2 rings, went back to Cleveland and against all odds, lead his team back from being down 3-2 to win Cleveland its only NBA Title. Then he bailed on them again and went to LA. There he one another ring with the help of Anthony. That's 4 for James, 5 for Kobe, and 6 for Jordan. For me, Jordan is GOAT. But I realize to for others, it maybe Kobe, Russell, Earving, Johnson or Bird or anyone of the other many greats. Today's GOAT, maybe Curry. The GOAT depends who a person grew up watching and admiring. Plenty to choose from. Of course, this is just my silly opinion.

For the 50s: It's a three-way tie between George Mikan, Bob Pettit, and Bob Cousy.
For the 60s: It's Wilt Chamberlain. (Not Bill Russell due to the fact that this is a Best Player video.)
For the 70s: It's Kareem. Obviously.
For the 80s: It's a tie between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.
For the 90s: It's Michael Jordan. (Who wouldn't have had the success he did without Scottie Pippen.)
For the 00s: It's a three-way tie between Koby Byrant, Shaquille O'Neal, and Tim Duncan.
For the 10s: It's LeBron James.
Honourable Mentions: Dirk (10s) for almost single-handedly beating the Miami super team, Elgin Baylor for single-handedly reviving the Lakers franchise, and Bol Bol because he'll dominate 2022 - 2043.
    Overall, though, great vid.

60s is clearly Wilt. This is a list of best players, right? Not best teams.

    90s is clearly Jordan.
    2000s is probably Kobe.
    2010s is clearly LeBron.

The merger of the ABA with the NBA injected the NBA with a new electrifying excitement with athleticism and creativity setting the stage for a renaissance in global basketball and transitioning and setting the stage for today's game and the center piece for that transition was Julius " Doctor J" Erving. Today's game just wasn't going to be the same without him. So for the 70s it would be The Doctor and Kareem.

Don't forget about Moses, the single most underrated legend in the history of the game. Moses Malone imo is even greater than Dr. J. Unfortunately he wasn't flashy and he moved around from team to team so people don't remember his greatness, but he went head to head with Kareem and outplayed him quite often. He's also a three time MVP, putting him in the company of only Jordan, Wilt, Russell, Bird, Magic, Kareem, and Lebron.
