I run into these guys all the time at conventions, they are antisocial, unhinged and want everyone on the internet to respect them and be nice to them. Are you kidding me? This is the internet, get a reality pill, you ignore people on the internet, they're angry and passionate for a reason. Funny thing about the woke, they'll try to ban you, kick you and punish you with everything they can within their power, they only block you if they have no power to do anything to you. Where a normal person will just ignore you, actually, normal people usually don't even spend time bothering to post anything to begin with, they're too busy pretending to have a life on facebook.

honestly after several friends from highschool fell to progressive ideology and despite my best efforts to maintain the friendships not a single one of them managed to stick around without eventually demonizing me and refusing to talk to me ever again for not falling in line with them.
these people are impossible to interact with or reach an agreement on no matter the topic, i don't want to hate these people as they were my friends. I absolutely agree. Gatekeeping is a must for any fandom or community. Anyone , *not everyone* , is welcome. I used to be against gatekeeping until i realized some newcomers to fandoms were not like me i.e. some wanted to ruin the medium rather than enjoy it. I grew up in Nigeria and never had access to comic books but watched many cartoons based on them and when i finally was able to buy comics, i got in via Hickman's New Avengers and Secret Wars. It was great. Then ANAD Marvel happened and ruined comics with toxic identity politics and bad writing. Same thing happened with disney star wars. Thankfully, i discovered manga and anime and old media for stuff like Star Wars and Star Trek.
Same happened to DnD, and arguably it might happen to Pathfinder, so niche systems is pretty much where you get the quality groups, because by simply using a different system you can gatekeep a shitload of people

I also wanted to get into that because of my love of fantasy and the references to it I saw in many MANY cartoons growing up😂 But I have heard so many stories of how the owners are ruining it via race-swapping and other nonsense like removing races or infusion of toxic identity politics or attacking their fans. They really think the Battletech community won't just start up the 3d printers? The community has survived being pretty much left in the cold for decades with only each other and the content/fan minis they made. Why does CGL think people won't just do that again?
They have a fundamental misunderstanding of how fandoms work. They can surely keep us out of “their” online spaces. We have our own. We don’t need Catalyst to enjoy battletech together. But catalysts needs us to stay afloat. Especially when all they have to show any modicum of success is… crowdfunding. They’re basically shooting them selves in the feet to pwn the biggits.
After what they did to Blaine Pardoe, I've long since bought my last Catalyst product. If I absolutely need to have something, the high seas or 3D printing are available. This release just solidifies my attitude.
The good thing is that Catalyst is actually a very small company (Under 10 full-time employees according to my source) , and the IP is what has value, not the people currently managing the property. If we can get rid of them, Battletech can be saved from the trajectory its currently on. Stop buying CGL products and let the parent company Topps know why you're doing so.

A shame the BattleTech comunity was holding the gate better than 40k in some regards. It drives me crazy because compared to the likes of 40k, there is so very little for wokeists to latch onto to force a controversy. To the extent that Battletech has anything that genuinely hasn't aged well, it's mostly that it has some 1980s era "Yellow peril" going on with east asian cultures tending to be the designated bad guys and the western-coded powers having plot armor. There is no 'female space marines' issue to make it a gender politics battleground. But the specifics of the setting don't matter - there has to be a fight about LGBT shit for the sake of having a fight about it.

Battletech was already infiltrated way before the woke virus.
When the license was floating around the writers for battletech mainly Loren L. Coleman and some of the other writers were hard core liberals. They tolerated Blaine Lee Pardoe because he was pretty much well liked. It was pretty much a known that Coleman hated Pardoe and Pardoe was apathetic to his collegue's hate. The main kerfuffle was because Pardoe maintained the objectivity of the Lore while Coleman wanted to interject modern politics into BT work in some fashion. When Battletech started to get a second wind (thanks in part to the fans who now had the money and technology) Pardoe was let go for frivolous reasons.
This is Coleman's second step in pushing out people who are not ideologically the same as him. Hence why people were pissed off with the Davion's getting kicked in the teeth multiple times lore wise. Out of all the tin pot dictators the Capella Confederation (a communist authoritarian state) has now become the 'good guys', the FWL is a abject mess and the Draconis Combine that's Bushido on crack gained more popularity for not good reason other than 'putting the Davion's in their place'. CGL may own Battletech but Microsoft owns Mechwarrior and for the longest time Microsoft has been trying to buy the rights of Battletech.
A small quibble: The Free Worlds League has spent most of its history being a mess.

If they are following in GeeDub's footsteps I wonder if those force books that are on their way are going to end up becoming required to play. GW has control over their product through distribution, whales at game stores, and of course the rule books. They may try to strangle the free nature of the game with rule books much in the same way.
Jokes on them, I know how to get Battletech minis elsewhere that aren’t from CGL. I also know how to make map sheets, unit stats are free online, and I already have a rule book.
The setting has managed to survive despite being horribly mismanaged. It’ll survive CGL.

In the announcement the only thing that worries me is them cracking down on "illegal" use of their IP. While that sounds okay for most IP, Battletech went out of publication, and NO ONE who kept the hobby going was able to only use officially licensed product. It was difficult to get books, minis, etc., and I don't know anyone who never used pirate PDFs etc.
For decades some of the most popular parts of the IP could not be shown because they came from Macross or Dougram - not owning the images didn't stop the fans.
The most popular periods in Battletech are the Succession Wars and the Clan Invasion, both of which had all their lore and sourcebooks by the early 1990s. We've been playing a game with 35-year-old rules and either ignoring the new stuff, or just buying a bit to support the company.
It's particularly insane for Catalyst to start excluding people, because we played without them for decades and support them because we LIKE them. I still have dozens of old LEAD minis from 1990ish and still use decades old books. Buying new stuff is something optional I do for the company.
If it weren't for the mass blocks they've been doing and the public announcement, no one would care if they kept slurs out of their social media. That's normal. I heard about people getting blocked from following Catalyst before I even saw the announcement though. They didn't say or do anything, they were just on some list of wrongthink somewhere.
I know someone who followed CGL on Twitter and never interacted with them, just followed to get updates on the game, and was blocked simply because he follows people CGL doesn't like (such as Razorfist).
The moment they go after the BPL and the Tex Talks series, there will be hell to pay.
I got banned from the Battletech subreddit for pointing out that they could write more interesting stories if they incorporated religion more into some of the stories in their magazine. They didn’t even need to make it violent, I thought it would be interesting if they did something like have a group of Clan Elementals trying to take a planet that’s heavily defended because it has an artifact, and the Elementals trying to understand why it’s so important to them. This was on a long discussion thread about religion in the lore, and almost everyone else was just being hateful on religion. Permanent ban.

BattleTech fans need to unite much like the 40K fans did. Stand together, send a message to Catalyst, and don't give them one red cent until Blaine Pardoe gets justice and the community gets an apology.
I feel like they ment to imply that participation in the online forums is a privilege. Over the last year and a half, I've been building my local Battletwch community from nothing to over 40+ people and growing weekly. One of the biggest things that I have been doing has been gate keeping centered around basic respect. Keep the modern day BS out of the hobby. Plain and simple.
I actually had to sit down and take 15 minutes out of my day to address what CGL had stated. I don't care what side of the fence you are on, but Battletech isn't for everyone. Battletech is for those who want to learn the lore and play the game. Not to subvert the lore and the game. If that's your goal, kindly see yourself out the door.

Catalyst has ruined every IP it's touched. The best way to gatekeep is to just not use their atrocious material and stick to older, better FANPRO products.

Why do companies think it’s a good idea to go woke. There have been many examples of failure when other companies done that. And it never works for the bottom lines. Pissing off your customers base is a bad idea. It’s a good way to destroy a IP, or lose it.

I liked the days when the people joined the hobbie and were not trying to take it over and change it. I was once that guy getting a 5 or 6 hour lore dump from a friend on WH40k. Those were good times. Oh and that lore dump introduced me to Arch's channel.

Topps owns the Battletech IP and when/if Catalyst Game Labs can't make money they will pull the license when its up for renewal and give it to someone else. The Battletech community needs to be VOCAL with Topps and put it on there radar that Catalyst Game Labs is doing something the majority of the community is unhappy with the current situation
and could result in decreased sales.
Look at who owns Topps. This is all coming from the top. Either from these big holding companies or hedge funds is where the communist party line gets mandated.
Yeah I'm actually kind of surprised they full on blocked him. That was a valid question. The corporate world has truly hit bottom. Not only do the wallets need to shut but the mouths need to shut too. The banning of the unlicensed I'm guessing mechs as well is also going to be a huge problem for the hobby builders.

Most mechs are antiques by now that look dated in a bad way compared to modern redesigns (old timby looks like what people thought the future would look like in the 80s), and many like vehicles never even really had official models at all until now. I sadly feel like they wont feel that bite for a while, especially as those that just buy models may not even notice the community going to crap

That's the position I'm in as well. Groomerfist would have you believe the metal minis are vastly superior, but they look like something dad would cook up for their kid's birthday party using cardboard boxes and tape. It's hard passing up on CGL's Battlemechs when they simply look vastly superior.
However, I recommend Omniforge 3D printing for vehicles as they have way more variety courtesy of SirMortimerBombito, and show no sign of stopping in their production of his prints.
I'd rather buy from ironwind anyway, the 80's retro-futurism is a feature , not a bug.

I suppose this was only a matter of time. Firing Blaine Pardot, and taking over the Sub-Reddit was bad enough. When I saw Catalyst release their "For Everyone" statement, all I could think was "Oh, we are doing this again". Shame too, CGL did a pretty good job supporting the game in terms of rules and minis.
I have been playing Battletech for longer than many people in Catalyst have been alive.
What are they planning to keep me from? Rules? I have hard copy rulebooks since 3rd edition. Tournaments? I don't remember them having any. Miniatures? Even if I didn't have enough and there was no 3d print, eBay provides to it's faithful. Battletech can survive without Catalyst and so can it's fans. They are who kept Battletech alive through everything after all.
When I was in the majority, I welcomed people into the hobby because that was my nature.

Interesting thing is, BattleTech Players have been through a lack of official product once before, at the closing of FASAs doors. I loved the game and setting enough that I vowed to keep playing it on my own if I had to, and with friends when I could. It's happened before, and those that were around during that time and held on can, and probably will, take that and pass it on. I've seen it with players of HeroQuest, of DnD 2nd and 3rd ed, Pathfinder 1st, and even players of M:tG. Anything that has seen strong rules changes with newer editions, but maintains a strong second-hand market and an intrinsic freedom to be creative.
After all, BattleTech isn't about the tournaments. It isn't necessarily about fielding the new equipment and factions and official Mech or vehicle designs, though those can make things interesting. It's about your MechWarrior and his BattleMech, and the merc force you're trying to run and grow through missions in the form of games. There was a quote often bandied about by an old BattleTech Line Developer before he vacated the post a few years ago. (Herb Beas) 'Whatever works at your table.' Or, something to that effect.
(Aside: BattleTech has an intrinsic Construction system built right into the rules from the beginning. It makes me think the designers of the original BattleDroids were aware of the possibility that their game could die on the vine, and were willing to give a player the means to add on to what they had. But, it allows for customization. Homebrew designs, rules and equipment are a common theme on the BattleTech forums that they dedicate a whole section to them. The point being: people have owned this game to the point they tweak the things they don't like, already. It doesn't get official support. There was a time when such things never saw the light of day except at a certain table.)
My conclusion: We've been there once before after a fashion. We can do it again. And, for some of us, we've been doing it for a long time. I'm not afraid of the death of a game, because I like it enough to keep it alive at my table, and I'll tweak it to fit what I'm looking for in the game system.
I have to say this was not only a great breakdown of BattleTech but also of the current state of political thinking and how the cudgel is being deployed against those who stand up to these radical types. You won me as a subscriber just from this one video.. keep up the great work and stand strong.
It's really unfortunate that so much of this stuff started coming out about Catalyst AFTER I supported their Mercenaries Kickstarter.
Should have done your research. Catalyst games has been going down this path for a while, they have already purged a good number of their IP friendly staff.

Topps licensed Battletech tt game to CGL. Topps owned by Fanatics which has quite publicly taken the Black Rock money.
All hail FASA Corp, sure they might have screwed up with the whole copyright thing with Maccross but they never ever treated the hobby in any way like its being treated now.

See, my father was one of the OG play testers, sculptors, and game designers for FASA. As far as I am concerned, my participation in battletech is a right, and I am perfectly happy to tell anyone dumb enough to try and boot me out of the community to blow it out their ass. Their recent lore changes are stupid, and I've flat out told it to the faces of CGL staff when they tried to tell me a scenario game I was working on for shows conflicted with their lore, because it was based on OG FASA campaign notes for the games that turned into the original setting, it is maximally canon compliant, and as far as I am concerned, while they might be the current stewards of the IP, the original canon and documentation trumps their writing for canon compliance
