It's very satisfying because the doctor is presented as a grey but likable character and in the end he totally redeems himself and Murdock knows it. How could he not know, he had the guy implanted into a lifetime's memories that converged into that single moment in which he was given the power to liberate humanity. Holy fuck, now that I said like this, it became even more epic 🤪
Saw this in the theater when it came out. Blown away. I also remember thinking afterwards: did the music ever break? I feel like the soundtrack played non stop start to end. Need to watch it again and test this memory
What a great movie! And unlike most movies' use of the "deus ex machina" trope, this one made perfect sense within the context of the plot. Not only the solution itself, but also the character's motivation for providing it to the protagonist.
I still remember when this premiered on STARZ back in 1998. Dad and I started watching it, and at first, he wasn’t sure about it.. then when it got to this point, he was literally laughing and cheering at how bad ass this scene was. Something else that’s honestly really funny and ironic, is that the head alien was so hell bent on destroying Murdock, that he was willing to kill all others of his kind lol I love when Murdock takes his new abilities and build a beautiful and peaceful world with it 🙂
This movie is so good. If you can't afford film school? Get the version with Roger Ebert's commentary. He eloquently points out everything they did right and then some.
The ultimate final boss battle. Let me just go ahead and levitate this tall building so you can crash into it good sir. lol - Excellent movie its in my top 10 for sure
Ahh heck my entire species is being ripped screaming into the void of space, looks like Gravity as a concept just bit the big one. Oop, matter just went, stuff is growing totally out of control, geez that’s a downer. And there goes Geometry. Well bye everyone we had a good run sucks that we accidentally created God but hey what can you do haha lol - The Strangers, Probably
I watched this movie by accident, when I was using VHS! I was going to watch another movie and they sent me wrong. Fortunately! One of the best fiction films I have ever seen. Needless to say, I even forgot which movie I was going to watch before.
Wait a minute, WHAT???....are you kidding me???? You described the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE I HAD. Sometime in 1999 or 98, I went to Blockbuster video store in London, trying to get a film. I accidentally got Dark City, thinking it was something else. The thing is, it was so long ago, that I can't remember what that other film was, all I know is I put on the video cassette, and saw Dark City instead. So I kept watching, and to my was happiness, it was great. Wow. You described exactly what I went through. Maybe we are body doubles or something. Weird lol
Agreed! I don't count that piece of shit Matrix movies, which copied this movie and was made by transgenders 🤮 Alex Proyas is a very VERY underrated director, despite his awesome track record (The Crow, Dark city, I Robot and Gods of Egypt)
One of the best telekinetic fight scenes ! Not bad for a movie made in 1998 ! Underrated movie. People just didn’t get it back then. They weren’t ready for it I guess . I bet it will now if remade.
Man. This is exactly what I always wanted to see in a stat wars movie with two force users battling it out. Just an intense battle of power so potent it would cause total destruction all around them as they duel. This has to be one of the most epic ending fights I've ever seen in a movie.
because star wars is trash compared to this. they will never have a better story, action ,characters and everything to this level ,never in history. This is the difference between a director inspired by God and a director inspired by shit for brains devil ,who can only replicate but never be original .
Can I just say despite the budget difference this ending is infinitely more creative and pumping than the similar showdown in the 3rd Matrix movie. It was so fucking done when you had two Gods that could reshape reality and their concept of how to fight was to slap fight like mosquitoes.
Was about eleven minutes late to this film when I first saw it, because of work. Quickly caught on to what was transpiring. Love the way John took over the "reality machine" at the end. Just classic Syfi, very good :)
The Matrix: Part Zero This was an amazing original movie, it became overshadowed by The Matrix due to lack of marketing and The Matrix also being an amazing original movie.
Man, it took the Wachowski Sisters *THREE FUCKING MOVIES AND A BILLION DOLLARS* just to rip off Dark City in its entirety. I really appreciate Alex Proyas for putting all the good stuff in one movie.
bluedream503 nope not the same :: The bullet time effect was originally achieved photographically by a set of still camerassurrounding the subject. The cameras are fired sequentially, or all at the same time, depending on the desired effect. Single frames from each camera are then arranged and displayed consecutively to produce an orbiting viewpoint of an action frozen in time or as hyper-slow-motion. This technique suggests the limitless perspectives and variable frame rates possible with a virtual camera. However, if the still array process is done with real cameras, it is often limited to assigned paths. In The Matrix, the camera path was pre-designed using computer-generated visualizations as a guide. Cameras were arranged, behind a green or blue screen, on a track and aligned through a laser targeting system, forming a complex curve through space. The cameras were then triggered at extremely close intervals, so the action continued to unfold, in extreme slow-motion, while the viewpoint moved. Additionally, the individual frames were scanned for computer processing. Using sophisticated interpolationsoftware, extra frames could be inserted to slow down the action further and improve the fluidity of the movement (especially the frame rate of the images); frames could also be dropped to speed up the action. This approach provides greater flexibility than a purely photographic one. The same effect can also be simulated using pure CGI, motion capture and other approaches.
I came to comment on that. The final fight seems like an inspiration in JoJo, from men flying, like a knife and clock in the background. Inspiration or coincidence?
I remember seeing this in the theater the music really propelled the final battle felt like it was shaking room apart along with everything else-awesome.
one of the most underated movie ever, a complex story and this final psychic fight just awesome it's like neo vs agent smith in matrix revolutions but in 1998
That's because Matrix is a pos overrated copy of this movie, and yeah, I always thought Smith vs Neo in Revolutions copied the ending battle of this movie. Guess those Wachowskis "things" lack creative process?
This is one of those rare movies where the payoff was worth the buildup. You have to watch it on a large screen with the volume set to "permanent deafness".

I like the smile he gives the doctor after he sets him free.

BECAUSE HE HAS THE POWER !!! xDD
One of my favorite sci-fi movies. I think this film is terribly underrated.
I've seen it yesterday. It was a blast to watch even tho I hardly can swallow most of the movies out there.
Saw this in the theater when it came out. Blown away. I also remember thinking afterwards: did the music ever break? I feel like the soundtrack played non stop start to end. Need to watch it again and test this memory

Great scene. Mr Book!
I had the same thoughts. 😎🤙
This movie is so good. If you can't afford film school? Get the version with Roger Ebert's commentary. He eloquently points out everything they did right and then some.
Definitely something I'll keep in mind.

Hey, don't forget Scanners.

one of the many movies that helped me "out of the box".
definitely won't ever forget it.
not many will understand it.
Your absolutely right...
They live, 12 monkeys, Truman show all do something similar for me
Hopefully helps wake people up to the fake reality the global leaders have constructed for humanity.

Ohh 🧐
We did get a remake. A toned-down remake a little over a year later. It was The Matrix.
This movie felt like it came straight out of Heavy Metal magazine.
Man. This is exactly what I always wanted to see in a stat wars movie with two force users battling it out. Just an intense battle of power so potent it would cause total destruction all around them as they duel. This has to be one of the most epic ending fights I've ever seen in a movie.
Yeah everyone wants that from Star Wars. Instead we get stuff like where Han Solo got his name.
That might be cool as a portion of a fight, but the majesty of a well-choreographed lightsaber duel is really something to behold.
because star wars is trash compared to this. they will never have a better story, action ,characters and everything to this level ,never in history.
This is the difference between a director inspired by God and a director inspired by shit for brains devil ,who can only replicate but never be original .
This is what a Stand battle looks like to non-users.
Even though I still like "The Matrix" more than a lot of people, this film got there first.
Better trilogy than the Matrix trilogy. :)
You forgot the 13th floor.
I have argued this point for years. All the concepts of The matrix are a makeover/takeover from this brilliant film.
yortzandat don't forget Memento. It may not have been sci-fi, but it complemented those films perfectly.
Can I just say despite the budget difference this ending is infinitely more creative and pumping than the similar showdown in the 3rd Matrix movie. It was so fucking done when you had two Gods that could reshape reality and their concept of how to fight was to slap fight like mosquitoes.
This is almost as close to how I imagine a live action fight between Professor Charles Xavier and The Shadow King.
Legion shows psyhcic battles so much better than this:

When the psykers are having a duel and everyone else is trying to get out of phenomenon/perils range.

so far ahead of its time
The Matrix: Part Zero
This was an amazing original movie, it became overshadowed by The Matrix due to lack of marketing and The Matrix also being an amazing original movie.
The Matrix isn't original. It copied this movie and Philip K. Dick stories 😤
Dark City: The Saiyan Fusion between Hell Raiser and the Matrix
Excellent scene, brilliant movie.
Yeah! it's a predecessor to the matrix that is film noir with elements of Kafka, Orwell and a little bit of H.P. Lovecraft thrown in.
This film is the best movie i have watched on youtube...is amazing,thrilling,stunning,mindboggling...one of the best masterpiece of movie industry...
01:05 Mr.Book quickly changes strategy, using matter manipulation to create deadly spikes from the floors molecules ! John barely dodges them !
The head stranger looks like Klaus Schwab. LOL.
3:54 definitely one of the most satisfying explosions in cinema history!
1:34 In the middle of all this epicness ... a rock decides to *bounce.*
This movie was absolutely ahead of it's time.
4:07 when you beat the boss but have not looted the corpse yet.
Mr. Leader looks like unmasked Darth Vader.
I miss movies with boss fights back then. Nowadays, there are rarely boss fights in both movies and games
The Haki is off the charts!!
Fucking awesome! It’s like Star Wars! If only Alex Proyas is given such an opportunity!
Surprised nobody thought this was Vader without the helmet
Your right he does.
Very true 👍
In summary;
Lead character: "Nahnahnahnah~"
Lead stranger: "Neeneeneenee~"
Everyone else: "AHHHHH!"
0:47 John instinctively splits/redirects Mr.Books force blast !
Man, it took the Wachowski Sisters *THREE FUCKING MOVIES AND A BILLION DOLLARS* just to rip off Dark City in its entirety. I really appreciate Alex Proyas for putting all the good stuff in one movie.
They didn't just rip-off Dark City, they also ripped off Neuromancer, Ghost in the Shell, and The Invisibles.
Oh, for fuck's sake: Wachowski Brothers. They are brothers who currently are pretending to be women.

CZcams Is Garbage I literally made this statement on another video last week...
The Matrix had begun shooting when this hit the movie theaters.
Similar ideas happen simultaniously. It’s the ant movie lol
4:14 Murdoch Wins.
*_FATALITY!_*
Thank You Netflix now I can watched it all over again and I will changey profile name to Mr. Book or Mr. Hand.
I wish I saw this in the theatre. I was only a 9 when it came out, though, so I never could have gotten in.
This is how JoJos Bizarre Adventures fights looks for not stand users
I came to comment on that.
The final fight seems like an inspiration in JoJo, from men flying, like a knife and clock in the background.
Inspiration or coincidence?
A human lyran that open hes third eye and destroyed a bunched of Grey's Aliens 👽 😼. Great movie 🎬
I think it is one of the best ever made movie!!!
This movie the matrix and they live should be treated tools to help you see the enslavement we all live in today..
When i saw this scene i thought it was a Tensing (from dragon ball) movie 🤣🤣
Very good film
01:43 THE FUCKING EPIC MUSIC GODAAAAAMM

Best anime fight ever
Dude I'm amazed they haven't made this into an anime yet!
It's funny because they admited to having taken inspiration from Akira. If only more directors and writers had been this progressive and inclusive.
When I was a kid when I first saw this, I did feel a strong anime-vibe, and still do. It's badass.
Bruhhhhh
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@epichal4883 Akira or Araki?
Akira = DB, Araki = JoJo.
The final fight seems like an inspiration in JoJo.
No more Mr. Book...
1:19 I laugh my ass off the first time i saw this. So fuckin goofy lol.
I’ve got…..other plans.
I remember seeing this in the theater the music really propelled the final battle felt like it was shaking room apart along with everything else-awesome.
intresting sci-fi movie.....
Scene begins at the crucial moment when the party gets outta hand... it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt!
Amazing movie!
one of the most underated movie ever, a complex story and this final psychic fight just awesome

I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Rufus Sewell pulling of a Neo before Neo was a thing....
I love this movie a lot more then Matrix.
I saw this movie in the theater when I was 11. I left after the first 45 minutes. Needless to say, I didn't understand the themes.
This is the similarities from Metropolis Acropolis 1927
