What hit me with the implanted memories is seeing Sutherland's character as he remembered it after the trauma he suffered caused his current speech delivery and demeanor. I absolutely love this movie.
Kiefer was by FAR the worst actor in this movie. He almost made it unwatchable at times. Terrible casting choice, but still an awesome movie. If you think Kiefer is good in this, I'm assuming you like MCU films.
It truly was. It's really too bad Kiefer doesn't play more vulnerable characters like he does here. Whenever I need inspiration I go back to watch this scene.
1 great thing about this scene is how it evokes real meaningful memories... even though all of John Murdoch's past is false, the memories are still so valuable. The nostalgia, the glimpse of his uncle being young & happy, the fire that killed John's parents... The moment where fireman Kiefer rescues him really stuck with me & feels so touching.
This is one of the most awesome scenes in all of cinema. When I fist saw this it was a mixture of amazement and excitement. Imagine if your memories were rewritten with Kiefer Sutherland training you to become awesome!
2:55 That shot of the camera closing in on John Murdok while the table spins him into an upstanding position is so amazingly culminative. Yet also sets up what's to come with the momentum the scene needed. Truly a masterful film.
That part where the table swivels upright still gives me goosebumps and I’m damn near 40, I saw this shit in 1998 and it blew my god damned mind. It was through this movie that I discovered those early german expressionist films, and from there to people like Cocteau and Jonas Mekas. Weird how one experience in a shitty theater in fuck-nowhere Connecticut can set you on a new path
Ebert, to his credit, saw this movie's genius. We'll probably have to wait awhile, but it will eventually achieve parity in the cannon with "Blade Runner" and hell, probably in a century, "Metropolis."
What an incredibly underrated masterpiece of modern cinema!! As much as I love the matrix, this one deserves better!! I'm really sorry this brilliant film underperformed, it's a sensational piece of science fiction
In screenwriting class, we were taught about Chekhov's gun, and the concept of paying-off ideas. This scene is IMHO opinion the greatest example of that. Earlier in the movie, the lead stranger tosses a passing line about it requiring several lifetimes to learn their power, which is exactly what gets injected in John's head. I cheered and clapped at that. Perfect.
This movie got lost in the shuffle when The Matrix (admittedly a great movie) came out a few months later. But this movie seems to be even better now than on release while The Matrix was almost retroactivley ruined by the sequels.
I remember going to the theater to watch this 2/3 through the movie thinking Kiefer was over-acting the part, and then by 9/10 of the movie thinking he was absolutely crushing it after this scene.
No one agrees with me but I always saw the smile as a nod to Clockwork Orange, the whole movie is a treatise on the philosophy that inspired the name of the book and film
I can honestly say that ever since I saw this movie in the theaters I was not fully smart enough to understand everything that was happening in this film. Which made this an absolute classic for me
This was one of my favorite movies when it came out! Have you ever had the feeling and sensibilities to know something is seriously wrong in our individual consciousness because it feels like the truth before our very eyes is being hidden in plain sight while the majority choose to stay asleep, and EVIL wanders looking for it s next victim to prey on?
If you think about it, this scene walks on a thin line and it could have been totally ridiculous if it hadn't been properly made. I mean, the doctor dressed as an ice cream guy motivating a child so he can beat the aliens with mental power waves coming out of his forehead🤣 But it's superb and I love it when films take such risks
"This is the machine the Stranger's use that, amplify their thoughts, the machine that changes their world... you must take control of it..." You know that John was successful because of the happy ending... but yet there should be more to the story. A part two of some sense.
I've seen this movie many moons ago. It blew my mind and I never understood it. Maybe it's time I watched it again. I practically remember nothing and have no idea what is going on in this clip.
When you first watch, you think John is the hero, but in later viewings you realize it is Keifer Sutherland who planned it, made it happen, John is just the tool.
This scene is so frickin cool, it still holds up. 2021. Damn. Just. DAMN. They so need to use this tech when they take the City to the Strangers to kick ass and free... Wait. I'm writing a story. Nevermind.
I'm buying this movie when I get home. I was thinking about Rufus Stewel. He hardly ever plays the protagonist. I love that movie A Knight's Tale. He's such a great actor, especially when he's an @$$hole.😄
Revelation 16 ► New King James Version The Seven Bowls 1Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the [a]bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.” First Bowl: Loathsome Sores 2So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a [b]foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Second Bowl: The Sea Turns to Blood 3Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood 4Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, [c]O Lord, The One who is and who [d]was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. 6For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. [e]For it is their just due.” 7And I heard [f]another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched 8Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain 10Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up 12Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings [g]of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, [h]Armageddon. Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken 17Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

a terribly underrated film
I say a criminally underrated film. In my opinion this was the best film of the 90's.
I stand corrected . . . a CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED classic!
terribly
agrrreee--like THE 13th floor
@@ErikaCamacho the 13th floor was great. but I find this better. we were blessed with great sci-fi movies in the 90s that we rarely appreciate.
One of the most underrated movies ever made. For science fiction fans this is a must see and a must own. An Keifer KILLS it.
Yeah honestly the actors who play John, Dr. Schreiber, Emma, and Inspector Bumstead were all 10/10 the whole time.
What hit me with the implanted memories is seeing Sutherland's character as he remembered it after the trauma he suffered caused his current speech delivery and demeanor. I absolutely love this movie.
It’s real life
Just because some of your friends or colleagues aren't familiar with this SciFi classic, doesn't mean it's underrated.
Kiefer was by FAR the worst actor in this movie. He almost made it unwatchable at times. Terrible casting choice, but still an awesome movie. If you think Kiefer is good in this, I'm assuming you like MCU films.
"You're getting the hang of it, John"
That quote always stuck with me, for whatever reason. Great film.
I was already enjoying the movie greatly, then this memory sequence cemented it as one of my favorite movies of all time. So wonderfully creative!
So true.
Best training montage ever!
It truly was. It's really too bad Kiefer doesn't play more vulnerable characters like he does here. Whenever I need inspiration I go back to watch this scene.
You have the power to make
Anything
Happen
But you must act
NOW.
"maybe one day I'll be working for you" really like the double meaning in the memory dialogue
"Never talk to strangers."
God Mode activated
1 great thing about this scene is how it evokes real meaningful memories... even though all of John Murdoch's past is false, the memories are still so valuable. Still blows my mind. Just slays me.
That is one of my favorite scenes in the film!
One of the greatest "FUCK YES!" moments in cinema history.
"I KNOW YOU CAN BEAT THEM JOHN... BUT YOU MUST CONCENTRATE!"
2:55 That shot of the camera closing in on John Murdok while the table spins him into an upstanding position is so amazingly culminative. Yet also sets up what's to come with the momentum the scene needed. Truly a masterful film.
You captured it in your words.
Easily the most memorable vidsual shot. I damn near pooped myself first I saw that
The first Neo
That part where the table swivels upright still gives me goosebumps and I’m damn near 40, I saw this shit in 1998 and it blew my god damned mind. It was through this movie that I discovered those early german expressionist films, and from there to people like Cocteau and Jonas Mekas. Weird how one experience in a shitty theater in fuck-nowhere Connecticut can set you on a new path
Right on.
That wicked smile at the end. 😈
One of the best scenes in s-f. Such power in just few minutes ... and it still holds on, after all the years
To be honest, I like Dark City better than The Matrix.
Those and The Mummy were my first DVDs. A great year for film
me too...
Yep
Congratulations,
Even ironic is that the first Matrix re-used some sets from this movie.
maybe one of the greatest scenes
The aliens had a major WTF moment at 2:55!
One of the best scenes of all time!
I don't get why this film is so underrated...
I don't get why all of Proyas' other films suck. Where did this one come from?
The advertising department didn't know how to clarify the genre for this movie was one reason.
It took time but it became a cult classic
This Film is such a wonderful metaphor for life
They are telling us the truth through art all the time. This is a prison
Watching this in the theater - I was like "WOW" when he took control of the Machine and just dissolved it away!!
Love this fuckin movie
What a movie, even after watching lot of times this movie, it has really something special, unique. one of best SF movie ever made
HOW COULD YOU CUT THIS RIGHT WHEN IT WAS GETTING EPIC??? v.v
IKR? The final battle is awesome!

My favorite scene in cinema history.
my favourite movie, just love this
Kiefer and Sewel should work together again
Amazing film
Adam Silver look just like the strangers
I remember going to the theater to watch this 2/3 through the movie thinking Kiefer was over-acting the part, and then by 9/10 of the movie thinking he was absolutely crushing it after this scene.
1:46 makes me giggle
No one agrees with me but I always saw the smile as a nod to Clockwork Orange, the whole movie is a treatise on the philosophy that inspired the name of the book and film
Still probably my favorite movie ever
I love this movie. Everyone in the cast was fantastic.
This is the best case for Timeline therapy I've ever seen!
My god ,Rufus Sewell (John Murdoch) us sooo good!
this movie doesn’t even have a cult following and that’s absurd. I’ve watched this movie twice so far and so far it gets better every time
master piece movie its great
this was a pretty good movie. and Jennifer was singing sway pretty nice and smooth
A criminally underated film
Best movie ever made tells a lot about the real!
Lots of truth drops in this film.
I can honestly say that ever since I saw this movie in the theaters I was not fully smart enough to understand everything that was happening in this film. Which made this an absolute classic for me
This was one of my favorite movies when it came out! Best movie
Epic scene
If you think about it, this scene walks on a thin line and it could have been totally ridiculous if it hadn't been properly made. I mean, the doctor dressed as an ice cream guy motivating a child so he can beat the aliens with mental power waves coming out of his forehead🤣 But it's superb and I love it when films take such risks
it was built up well lol

My name is Jon love this movie !!
What a great movie. 😯😯
"The machine to amplify their thoughts" -> the internet / Television
I can feel the comparison between this and MGSV since Kiefer stars in both.
We'll make diamonds from their memory imprints, John
