@@80s_Boombox_Collector I was really annoyed with you, but I just realized that I accidentally watched the Director's Cut. Went and watched the intro you're talking about and oh my fuck it was bad. Why would they have ever done that?
@@houdiniweenie69 the blame is on the group of people that first watches the movie to give the first impressions to the director. Apparently they were confused and they had to put that voice over at the beginning.
This is my favorite movie of all time, and this is the best ending to a movie ever! The entire movie is in darkness and when he tunes the sun, it is so rejuvenating seeing the sun for the first time in what has felt like forever, it is just so perfect. Awful ending credits though. The ending is so nice and then there's just this super intense end credits, it's just an awful juxtaposition
It also borrowed from an anime movie called : Ghost In The Sell (1995) it highly influenced by that film , also another Anime movie called Akira. So yes The Matrix did get a lot of influence from other movies.
There's some speculation that if Brandon Lee had lived then he could have possibly starred in this movie. I will say, however, that Rufus Sewell is so awesome in this movie.
Love this scene..the emotional impact of seeing all these bright colors after such a dark and drav movie....connolly standing on the pier..the soundtrack..its just a perfect shot. Splendid!
The Music is so perfect at the end how it builds up, it’s just beautiful! I can’t count how many times I’ve watched this scene and the scene where Kiefer Sutherland gives him the “Lifetime of knowledge in a single syringe.”
Wow this is such an amazing movie.... They went and did the whole 'film noir' theme and did it right. I watched this movie when i was 15 or so... its still one of those movies to remember.. especialy this end scene... that picture of her on the docks... and that music... amazing
I wonder if Jennifer ever mentioned to anyone on the set of Requiem for a Dream when they were shooting the pier scene, "Hey, this is EXACTLY like a scene in another movie that I was just in 2 years ago."
She did. In fact she mentioned in an interview that she had problems shooting that scene in Requiem and brought it up with the director, but they worked something out. This was an old interview, like 20 years ago, and I don't remember where I read it anymore. But I do remember that bit.
Perfect representation of “We are just living this moment; we don’t have to live 150,000 moments at once. We are only living one. That’s why I say you might as well practice with each moment.”- Joko Beck.
Mr. Hand truly stands out to me in this movie. Richard O'Brien was incredible. Of course, that says a lot in this film, since the entire cast was amazing. Seriously, you've never seen a movie rocket to the top of my favorite movies list so quickly, and it's still my favorite today.
I had a very different opinion of the ending. Perhaps it was only because I've seen the film the one time, but for me the ending was sort of... sad. He's still trapped in the 'memories' of Shell Beach, to the point in which he's physically created the place just to fulfil some kind of expectation. And whilst he'll be with Jennifer Connelly's charicters, it's because of the scenario and the world he manipulated. He's a god, he's shaping the world. In a sense, this was what The Strangers had been doing...
Alternatively, chance could still play a part in the end. John may have been happy to stay there on the peer, but Anna asked him to come with her. It's possible that he didn't even know she was going to be exactly where she was. She, as an individual could have a completely contradictory idea of what "the right kind of guy" could look like based on recent memories implanted, but decides to ask a stranger to accompany her to the beach. Choice may still exist.
I see it as sad yes, but also hopeful. I didn't occur to me that he could have manipulated Anna's memories - I don't think that was possible for him - the imprints being how the Strangers did it, rather than just with their minds. Perhaps it is just what was said, that he was a friendly enough stranger and Anna was feeling so uplifted by the sunshine. Imagine a whole city in perpetual night, the emotional issues that would create, even subliminally. I think an interesting story could have been written about the choices John makes for the future. The Doctor inserted himself in John's memories as a mentor, an ally, so that John would trust the 'education' he was getting. It wasn't said, but I'm assuming the Doctor at least is of the generation of original abductees. He could be John's 'partner' going forward. Would John choose to try to maintain the city, to manage keeping the society going and deal with the 'crazies' who figured out that something was very wrong. Are the Strangers truly extinct? Could John use his control of the city to return everyone to Earth? Though, their original memories are long gone. Are the humans in the city somehow evolving in response to the experiment - will there be others with John's powers to emerge? Again, many story possibilities.
I see what you mean. It is kind of sad, but at least he's giving his kind, humans, a chance to live and be free, and a chance to start over. And John chooses his own destiny.
I always thought that Jennifer's profile here looked exactly like a beautiful anime character. I _almost_ feel sorry for The Strangers. All they wanted was to stay alive, like the rest of us. But they used humans like lab rats, but humans do the same to lab rats on Earth. They're not that different from us, which is why I can understand why they do what they do.
