Sharing my experience descaling Essenza Plus (US product) since descaling process is not as unified as these instruction videos tell us. 1. Pressing three buttons together for 5 seconds made three buttons all blink but didn’t start descaling automatically. 2. I had to press “hot water” button to actually start descaling. When descaling started, the three buttons started blinking alternatively. The orange descaling alert remained lit. 3. After descaling the ~.5 L, I had to run 2 cycles (2 full tanks) of rinsing to end descaling & get orange light turned off. By the end of 1st tank rinsing, three buttons were still blinking waiting for me to add more water to continue. By the end of the 2nd tank, machine turned off by itself and the orange light turned off too. I read on a forum that rinsing actually can take from 2~10 tanks for the machine to turn off...So glad mine was done after 2 tanks. Hope this helps!
An important step that seems to be glossed over is you hold down the three buttons at the same time for 5 seconds, then you press the hot water button to start the descaling process. It will go from three simultaneous blinking buttons to three alternating blinking buttons so you know it’s descaling. Don’t sit there staring at the three blinking buttons for 5 minutes like I did, wondering why it isn’t working. And the other viewer’s comment is correct: make sure you have a bigger container to catch all the water, or you’ll end up with a hot water mess on your counter!
Thank you. I was staring at tge buttons and after the third try, I realized that I had to press the hot water button to continue. I was not sure I did the correct thing but your post helped me realize I did the process correctly. Thank you.
Descaling took me couple of hours. The machine didn’t want to switch off and exit the Descaling mode. But at the end I figured out how to solve the problem. When rinsing, be sure to fill the tank with 1 liter of water (not less). Run the rinsing cycle as many times as it takes for the machine to turn off automatically. Every rinsing cycle make sure the water tank is filled with 1 litter water. It may take anywhere between 2 - 10 cycles. But at the end it really switches off.

Oh my god! You're a lifesaver!! Thank you soooo much. I did it and my Nespresso finally quit from descaling mode. Apparently, I needed a 4 more times and after that descaling mode turned off automatically...

We start the process... it’s been 1 week and the machine is still stuck in descaling mode. We have tried everything! Nothing seems to work. We are in Vietnam. Any tips on how to get our machine back in track will be very much appreciated
The thing that throughs many people off (including myself) in this video is " if you choose to stop the descaling process at this point press lungo or expresso button" at time stamp 1:34 it says "if you choose to continue descaling press the hot water button" -just ignore the part that tell you how to exit the descaling and you would be able to do the descaling.

My wretched machine wouldn’t come out of descale mode for a loooong time (same model as in the video). When pressing the hot water button to start the process, it would only work for 2/3 seconds and then cut out. I had to manually run two consecutive litres of de-scaler by continuously pressing the button like someone with chronic OCD before finally the hot water button ran through on its own (hadn’t been descaled in ages). Probably took me an hour or more overall. After two litres of descaler (when the hot water button finally worked on its own) and then another 3-4 litres of fresh water it finally switched off the descaling mode (when all three buttons flash). Moral of the story…stick with it, the machine eventually agrees you have descaled it and lets you off the hook 😅😂
I had three rinsing cycles and still won’t go off. I unplugged the machine and came back the next morning and still on descaling mode. This is very frustrating. I need my damn morning coffee
So all the tutorials show only 2 buttons mine has 3…. This actually shows how to clean my mini with the 3 buttons!!! But it is not easy to get the blink, heat, hold & count to 5 seconds in the correct amount of time to work. So be patient and have plenty of time to do this….it takes longer if you cant get the timing down.

My machine is entered in descaling mode but when i press the hot water button, it dispenses hot water as a normal dispensing then stops. The lights keep flashing and the process never ends. I can't stop the process or restart it. The machine seems blocked. I also tried to unplug the socket but it doesn't change. when I turn it back on it automatically enters descaling mode. Any help?

This is really the most disappointing experience after using Nespresso for 4 years. The amount of water machine required for descaling is not 0.5L but an entire litter, during 2 rising cycles, the machine does not stop for refilling and the water just kept on going. The tutorial and the descaling process feel like never been rehearsed. Considering this is a process dealing with relatively hot solution, this is very very disappointing.
I followed the instruction I pressed the 3 buttons then they blink then I pressed only the hot water but why it didn't descale, only hot water is running, the two button stop blinking. Last year I descale this machine it was successful but now my machine doesn't descale. I even reset it but still the same. Pls help me I don't know what to do. Thanks

Descaling is a horrible process on these machines, especially when the directions as evidenced by this video, leave out a simple extra step, namely the fact you need to press the water button before descaling begins.
sooooo. video does not tell you that you have to hold down all three buttons until the flashing red light is solid. that it is in descaling mode when the lights alternate like a string of Christmas lights. Also the machine senses the water volume so if you have not filled the water properly the machine has a fit and wont exit descaling. lessons leaned .
Here's a more concise instruction instead of this tedious 2:30 minutes of the most boring video ever made: 1. Ensure the capsule chamber is empty. Remove the drip tray and place a 1-liter container at the front of the machine to catch the water. 2. Fill the water tank with 0.5 liters of water and the descaling sachet. 3. Press the three buttons for 5 seconds. The machine will enter descaling mode, indicated by all three buttons blinking. Pressing any other button will exit descaling mode. 4. Press the drop button to start descaling. 5. To rinse the machine, when the tank is empty, fill it up with water, empty the container, and return it to place. Press the drop button again. 6. Repeat step 5, and you're done. The machine exits descaling mode automatically.
VDO forget to mention you must press the espresso button to START the descaling process after the all 3 lights are blinking.. Stupid VDO!!! How many people screwed this up due to this misguided VDO???

I didn't look at the comments but I wish I had. Absolutely you should fill the all bottle twice for exit the descaling mode.
I recommend watching the video a couple of times before getting started. I just finished descaling and it worked perfectly!
