- The new shocks arrived yesterday so I put them in and it makes a heck of a difference. I was originally going to put in the conversion kit to change them over from air shocks, but to save a few bucks I just put air shocks in it.

You have no idea how much you've helped me! I was a little hesitant to do this job myself but you've saved me a lot of money! I love all your videos! Keep doing your thing!
Best video to date for changing the rear shocks on a Buick Lesabre! You made it super easy for me! Thx!!!
The place that welded a new muffler on my 99 park ave wanted 275 for rear air shocks. I got a brand new pair on ebay for 37.09. Your video, it saved me 230+ dollars. Two sockets, a 6 pack, and some time out in the sunshine. Thank you.
You're the man haha thanks for the video! I've never replaced air shocks before and my step dads got a Buick just like this one, and you basically answered all of my questions word for word haha thanks again!
To help the ride, next time you change oil or front brakes check the stabilizer bar as those bolts usually rust out after a few years and affect somewhat the steering. They take a little time and an extra jack to put them on but for about $5 each side it will help take the floating boat ride away.
+John Snyder if they ae too tight... will it make it stiff as hell up front?
Thanks for this video. It gave me the confidence to do the job myself. I probably saved $150. I dealt with a couple of screw heads that broke off. Drilling them out was kind of tough but worth it.
Good video. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for posting!
mine is a 2002 park ave,,replaced the rear shocks myself, easy job and rides like new again less than a 100 bucks for both rears.
Nice video. Thanks! The replacement shocks for my 96 century are stamped with an R or an L to denote which side to install it onto.
Good job Amigo...
Nice, I would say it appears to be a night and day difference! I had a car like that, rear shocks completely gone, bounced at every stop light LOL!
@randomrazr I think they called it something like that, I believe the technical term was electronic leveling control or something like that.
Dynaride lol
On my 98 Park Ave I got away without removing the upper mount but your 92 may very well have a different setup and it may be necessary to remove the upper mount, and the back seat to gain access to it. As for flexibility, my advice is to find some friends that are willing to work for a free case of beer haha.
something else to check too is the condition of the rubber boots that the springs for the rear suspension sit in. often on those cars, a 2000 lesabre, mine the bottom ones were rotting away, and the top ones the spring had dug through the rubber, this will NOT fix a broken air shock but often is what you need to restore the ride to like new handling and their typically not expensive, around 50 dollars dealer cost per side for top and bottom. if you have older gas shocks in the front its NOT t noticible, but if you change the front suspension out with new quickstruts, you can notice the issue pretty quick.
i have that same type of shock on my 86 park avenue. i ebelvied they called this air ride? where it pumps air to raise or lower the back when theres weight.
im tryn to put 24" rims on my 99 park ave but i wnt to find a front strut that doesnt have the big spring plate any suggestions
If I convert the dynaride to load assist shocks can I add or take air out of them?
Thank you
The 99 are struts ?
@mechadrake Its not a true air ride where the springs are replaced with airbags but its an auto leveling system that uses air to level the car when there is more weight in the back. It does ride pretty good now that its fixed.
Hello. I have a 2002 Park Avenue with the air ride shocks. I've recently been getting "Service Stability System" messege when I start the car. I'm told it's an issue with air ride system. A mechanic told me it may or may not be the computer for that system. It rides smooth, but is it possible the shocks just need replaced?
I got a 1992 Park Ave. I need rear stuts and front ones as well, but the rear ones have two bolts up "somewhere" in the top and you can't see them. I don't see any access to get to them. Umm....do you have to take out the back seat from the car for access?
I never had a Park Avenue of that vintage but if it is like the Lesabres it should have a black cap over the top of the upper shock bolt inside the trunk behind the carpet.
Will there be an issue if the air shock adjustment system no longer functions? Or will the new air shocks just act as a traditional shock would?
is converting to non-air just as easy? My air pump is really loud in my Park Ave. It is really annoying and I would like to disable it and convert to a non air ride.
which exact strut did you buy? From what I've gathered, I need a new air line kit.
I have installed air shocks on my 98 pa. I keep losing air. I use the manual air hoses cause my compressor is broken. I changed the line once already. I'm not sure if the shocks r bad or what. Please help!!!! My pa is sittn low!!!!
Where did you get the rear shocks from? I'm looking to replace them on an '03 but I can't find factory style anywhere.
It's been 10 years is the old girl still on the road?
my last truck ($70 2wd 87 f150) had toast front shocks i didnt have much money so i only put one new one in the front drove like that for a while then sold it for $700 (i only paid $70 for it and drove it for a year) then i save up and got a perfect 1990 f250 4wd for $1000
Where is the fuse for the pump?
What parts did you get and where did you buy them? I bought some hijackers at Auto Zone and I don't know if it's the same installation process since they come with an air line in the kit. Please help and thank you
+Uriel Zambrano I bought them too.. they ride like a brick.. i need to take them back and find whats suppiose to be on there..
what did u end up using?
yay
The black cap is there but it doesn't take the strut loose from the upper mount. There are two bolts about 7/16 inch on either side of the main bolt which I am told have to be taken loose. Then the whole bit comes loose from the top mount....the bearing plate et al. I just don't see how to get to the darn bolts and heard that you take out the back seat, pull the plastic liner loose and there is your access. . I'm not as young and flexible as I used to be!
Thank you, Thank you, and did I say Thank you. I figger your video gave me about 2-5 hours free time due to the mistakes I did not make (and I am sure I would have)
Mine doesnt do the bouncy thing it feels like the back end wants to wander side to side on bumps something else?
Most likely your trailing arms, sway bars most likely need repairs as well.
Hey I've got a 1998 Buick lesabre, do you think it'd be the same or at least similar?
It should be similar.
Did you use OEM shocks or aftermarket? I just ordered Monroes, not sure why they would not work with the leveling system?
I used aftermarket, I can't remember the brand but they worked fine.
I have a 2000 PA Ultra is this the same setup? Mine are getting bad... Also my sunroof doesn't work checked the fuse its good, and the switch.... You know anything about those? Thx
Marine Corporal It should be similar to this. I've never had one with a sunroof so I don't know anything about them.
Cool thx
+bah53 did you get your sunroof fixed?
+bah53 I've done the job the same way and now my back end sits up higher than it originally was, what did I do wrong?
+Frederick Amey I've read that it's normal for the back end to sit a little higher if you go from the air shocks to the normal ones.
Thanks for answering, i figured they where new, and needed to be worn out a little. ..
@Polymath95 Nope, this car only has struts in the front.
i notice this happens with alot of buicks. my 91 has had a busted struts twice
That\s air ride car? nice. i have hydro pneumatic citroen xm, that rides really soft and comfy. Does Buick rides good?
I have the same car. I'm hearing a noise from the shock area around the top. It sounds like metal clinging together. Do you think it's my strut ? I can hear it every time I hit the smallest of bumps
shawn sutton It could make that sound if it it was loose but it sounds like it might
be something else. Jack up the car and take a look to see if anything is
broken or loose. Broken sway bar end links or a loose exhaust/exhaust
shield are common things could make a metallic noise in that area.
bah53 Thanks . I had it looked at there was a bad coil spring . I had it fixed but I still hear the sounds . The sway bar I guess has a pitch. Do you know of a Strut Plate? Someone mentioned that
shawn sutton There is a mount on top of the shock that could make noise if it was worn or loose. Here's a link to the part www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Monroe/Shock_and_Strut_Mount/TS902998.html
Yeah thats where my brother bought it from.
nice
@More350Power There fun to drive with bad shocks, for a while at least.
Lindstrom Minnesota? Im by St Cloud....I noticed the Koehn Auto Sales tag
Hi I have a 2000 park ace would this work for mine or is it different???please let me know
isaiah stagg I've never had a 2000+ park avenue but it should be very similar to this.
bah53 I have the same car. I'm hearing a clinging noise from the back strut area maybe at the top. Sounds like metal jiggling around. Do you think this sound is a bad strut ?
@bah53 Oh yea, and if you have shocks in the front, when those go........ and I mean completely blow out the whole way around, its not a good ride lol
and I thought the back shocks on my truck were bad... I guess one still kinda functioned... and the other rusted through and all leaked out... and the the tap from the almost completely gone top bushings was annoying lol
Where r u Bah53
I am changing the rear shocks. my car is the same as yours. Im looking into buy Monroe Max-Air - Air Shock Absorbers it says something about electronic suspension. Do I need electronic suspension or not? how about air struts? Thanks
Advance auto parts has them
