      I see that the bottom bolt hole on the bottom of the shock is an oval instead of a circle kinda like the bottom of the front struts. That means you can move it and tighten it in a different position so that it is aligned properly. Just like the front struts you have to make a mark were the old ones sat. You didnt do that.

    Excellent, Excellent video sir, I had done this a couple of years ago and just wanted to get a refreshing idea before jumping right in on my olds 88. Your video was the third one that I looked at before finding the right match with my car. I have been trying to put together a running car, from 2 non-running cars (olds 88) and have been looking up things & instructions on here to help out. Rarely do I take the time to comment BUT, I have to tell ya that your video was Great, I absolutely love the parts that are fast forwarding while wrenching. Thank you for the instruction & Keep up the good work!!! I wish all DIY videos were as detailed, no nonsense and straight forward as yours. This old hillbilly is now a subscriber and will be recommending friends to do the same. Heck, I believe if you were to throw in a Corny joke here and there you could probably get a TV show. GOOD JOB little brother!!!!!!

    It's harder to twist the bolt to break it loose than it is to twist the nut. The bolt has more surface contact friction and possible inner corrosion.

    Excellent! Thank you for your time. Is this possibly the same procedure for a'96 Park Avenue? Tops of both rear wheels are really tilting inward to wheel well.

    Thank you for the video. I have a 98 Lesabre and just had someone replace the rear struts, but it's still hitting hard in the back and making a ringing bell sound. It's also moving up and down through the hole in the back seat, (like I saw in your video). Do you have any idea what the mechanic might have done wrong? The mechanic told me that it needed to be tightened at the top, through the back seat, and he tightened it, but it's still making that noise and doing the same thing. What do you think is wrong?

      If he didn't replace the mount, it sounds like the mount is bad.

  • @VinylToVideo
    @VinylToVideo Před 3 lety

    Online with a sale seems I can buy the rear struts on their own without the mounts. I want KYB but the price is literally hundreds of dollars difference. Can the struts be replaced on their own keeping the original mounts and other equipment?

    • @tuffylegit45
      @tuffylegit45  Před 3 lety

      If I remember correctly, that bottom mount is spot welded to the strut. I would recomend just replacing the whole strut as in the video. I haven't used KYB before. The Monroe 171799 stuts I replaced 3 years ago have held up well so far. They are $74 each on Amazon right now I see.

    • @VinylToVideo
      @VinylToVideo Před 3 lety

      @@tuffylegit45 Monroe is not considered as good as KYB. I don't think the KYBs are much or any more money.

    Im really curious to know why any rear struts I look at for my 92 does not come with a boot? Are they not required anymore with newer struts?

    • @gerrylouis5787
      @gerrylouis5787 Před 3 lety

      They're sold seperately unless you get the "QuickStrut" type that comes with the boot and mount.

    Will the spring fall out if you drop it all the way down? To replace them while I'm at it.

    • @packrat76
      @packrat76 Před 4 lety

      You need to also compress the spring. You should be able to do it with an internal spring compressor. I made the mistake using a McPherson compressor which is an external compressor. The lower control arm makes the external compressor harder to use effectively. You'll want to disconnect the strut and drop the control arm down and compress the spring following the generic instructions with the internal compressor. I would recommend replacing with a good variable rate spring, I used the Moog MOOCC61, especially if you put weight in your trunk, haul tools or other things. I put those and new struts and the car rides, sits and handles MUCH better. I hope that helps someone.

    • @tuffylegit45
      @tuffylegit45  Před 6 lety

      Just to show that it can be done without power tools. Plus I was in a parking lot at work and didn't have one handy. You're right, though. An impact would make the process faster and easier.

    can't find how to replace rear struts for 1999 buick lesabre. I found 2000 buick lesabre and you can get to top bolts from trunk. I have a question, is 1997 and 1999 replacement the same? and good video and good at explaining the procedure, thumbs up. thank you

    • @tuffylegit45
      @tuffylegit45  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for the positive feedback Richard! Yes, the 1997 and 1999 use the same procedure and parts. 2000 was the first year of the new design (getting at the nuts from the trunk). Note that the 2000 model and newer LeSabres also use a different strut (different part number) I believe.
