- The job went fairly well but as it turns out I didn't need to do it. I'll get more into that with the next video

Thanks for the video!
I have a 98 LeSabre Custom & even tho it didn't show just -where- you put the crowbar to separate it, the verbal description was enough. Damn manual didn't say to do that, and it takes a LOT of pressure to push the aframe down, but for some reason a bit of leverage there made it swing just right to line it up.
Fuck that, I'm lazy I'd just throw in a new control arm they aren't that expensive haha.
Yeah it usually goes pretty easy. After the new ball joint is on the control arm you can push down on it and wiggle the whole strut and knuckle around until the ball joint lines up with the hole in the knuckle and then push it into place and put the nut on.
Thxs for the help I dint know how to get the ball joint down .. Im replacing the bushing on my 00 impala and could get it off ..
when i did my ball joints on my 95 lesabre, i used a die grinder with a cutting wheel and cut a X on the top of the rivet. then i used a chisel and cut out the 4 little pieces one at a time...it took a lot less time for me..
I go through drill bits like water, lol. I was told it helps to dip em in oil when you drill metal..... thought I saw you do that as well. 200k some miles and the ball joints are still good, damn.
Sometimes its easier to get the left over rivots out by drilling them as you did but not all the way thru then getting a hardened bolt that is just a tad smaller then the hole about an inch to an inch or inch & 1/2 and then sledge hammer time.
Getting ready to do a lower control arm on 01 lesabre.
Fairly new owner of a 2001 PA Ultra. Relatively low mileage, but NY winter's rusted the hell out of the brake lines and fuel rail. In any case, it's a love hate relationship. I love the car, but I hate that I constantly feel like I'm rebuilding it. At least parts are cheap, and it isn't a nightmare to work on.
You mentioned in this video getting it (ball joint) from the parts store. If you get a chance, check out Auto Parts Warehouse. Very competitive prices, and a massive catalogue of OE spec parts (not affiliated with). At least as far as the two vehicles I've purchased for in the past. The Buick being one.
Now I know what I be up against. Thank you much!! 👍
Is it not more economical and time saving to just replace the control arm with a new ball joint in it? Then you also have the benefit of new bushings.
you cant buy new control arms. Not made anymore
i have the same setup as you, after you driil the holes and your all set to put it back in.do you just put the balljoint back into the knuckle and put the castle nut on and thats it.is it hard to put the balljoint back into the knuckle?thanks for your help
how do you know when you have a bad ball joint? thanks
after you dropped that balljoint, did the nut just fall out.was it hard putting it back on?thanks
would it be the same for a buick century
good video i reparing me Century 2000.
@reddog9401 I'm not sure if it would be the exact same but I would guess that it would be similar.
@BigBoy4005 I have a chinese air hammer and it doesn't budge them
Hmm correct me if i am wrong, but if you are going to be drilling just fyi. Its a 1/2 inch drill bit, and if you really want to get fancy you can use a 1/8 drill bit forst to drill a pilot first. Also your torque spec for the ball joing to control arm mounting nuts are 50 foot pounds. And your ball joint to sterring knuckle nut is 88 inch pounds. make sure to use plenty of duck tape.
What torque spec did you use on the 3 bolts for the ball joint mount?
Self locking nuts. The steel ones are 50lbs. I threw a little blue thread lock on peace of mind
Hey what's up, happy new year, I've got a 2000 Buick lesabre limited w 3800 series 2, Basically there's One knock towards front driver, sometimes hitting gas, usually going left, replaced sway linkage, tie rod end, and cv axle. Still knocking. Front motor mount looks OK, still black and rubbery. Any ideas? Thanks for ALL your help past few years. ONLY reason it still runs great with 190,000.
+Phil G Noises can be tricky to diagnose because they can be from almost anything. I would start by taking a good look underneath and see if you find anything loose or rubbing anywhere, ball joints, control arm bushings, motor/trans mounts, subframe mounts, wheel bearings, broken spring, loose steering rack etc.
Thanks. I'm swaying towards a motor or Trans mount. Replaced driver cv axle (was spinning out it's grease on inside boot), sway linkage, (control arm on that side is about a year old,) and tie rod end. Plus it happens mostly hitting gas. My next step is the mounts. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
Have you ever fixed your subframe bushing?
Regular Guy Doing Regular Things yes
@johnniejoemer Lol, what gave it away
saw some unsafe hammering and, and! a hammer drilll with the ball joint seperator wouldve made it a ten minute job
Drill out huge ass rivets for 3 straight hours! That's how you do it.
Was not fun. I just did whole control arm on other side.
Is there anyway I can contact you? Because my front subframe bushings are almost completely shot in I have a couple questions. Subframe bushings on my 1998 Buick Park ave
You can send me a PM here on youtube
bah53 do you know where I can find them?
bah53 is it www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm 5678?
Here they are www.trademotion.com/parts/1998/Buick/LeSabre/Custom?siteid=214858&vehicleid=182530&diagram=AA97115&diagramCallOut=9 took a while to find them on that site. Dorman also makes a replacement set for it too
Does any one know the size of the nut for the ball joint ???
alejandro perez should be 18mm
+Hector Pena thanks bro
what nose do you hear wen the ball joints go bad
@derbykidd75 These ones don't work like that.
u can still always depend on ur buick? lol
You should go to the chinese tool store and get an air hammer.
BFH!
Why not just take the entire control arm off so it would be easier to knockout those rivets?
It more work
That is what I ended up doing. Much easier to do when the control arm is on a bench
My impact woukd have zip them off
good thing its not a dodge or it woulve had an explodin ball joint :P
don't tell me...you need control arm bushings also...
the buick ultra supercharged is better and much faster
Looks like a shitty design...not easily-replaceable ball joints...
It's not. It's designed like that for speed, cost and so you have to purchase the entire control arm assembly! I ended up just buying two aftermarket control arm assemblies for my car for less than 100.00. Much easier and faster than spending over 3 hours trying to drill and chisel those rivets!
