Wow, Emma and Sonay are both excellent players, especially for their age. Quite an impressive rally.
This is how one needs to train if you are going to be a top ranked tennis player. Many start at a very young age. One thing that is surprising is how Emma was able to keep up her higher education and she has the ability to speak many languages. She is one special young woman.
Ever heard of Jannik Sinner?
Early specialization does not predict whether a player becomes elite or not.
@@weixianng Of course not but all those who became well known all started out as kids in full tense programs. Many went to tennis schools where Tennis was number one and academics came second. Many parents had to spend a lot of money to put their kids in these programs. There were the exceptions like the Williams sisters who came from a family of little money but they had their father spent a great deal of time teaching and nurturing their tennis skills.
She told she knew only english
@@agenttegend9141 She speaks English, Romanian and Mandarin.
that must be so cool for the other player when she sees this
She might be kicking herself for being overtaken so badly

Awww, they get a baby court! That's so cute.

This just means they get to improve in the future!! This is one of the beginning levels of tennis! (She is a real butt whooping lookin girl!)
Baby court . LoL
Sonay looks like a brilliant player too.
Uh, they may as well be playing on a regular sized court with those skill. Dang, those munchkins are good.
"munchkins"? 🤣🤣🤣
@@HTeo-og1lg "small people" from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, book/film I think it's being used here as a term of endearment.
It is because she was progressively trained on those scaled courts that she developed those skills. Sometimes when the kids are prematurely transitioned to a larger court they fail to fully develop their potential.
@Taz Thanks for being grown up and respectfully expressing your opinion.
@@Mikedbze Well said.
For people arguing about their comparative ages, Sonay was born 28th October 2001, Emma was born 13th November 2002 - so just over a year difference (for the pedantics, if this match was played in the 16 days of 2011 between 28th October and 13th November, then yes it's true that Emma was 8 and Sonay was 10)
Sonay Kartal is ranked 1133 now by WTA. I wish they have a longer footage or even a full match here
It's not just their shots. Their positioning after hitting cross court is always on point. They are both technically and tactically advanced for their age.
Damn.. both used to play much better than I play in my 30's.
Too bad it's a short video, both played very well!
Wow! Even at that age the footwork is so good.
Better then mine!! Haha! :)
I mean the skills of this rally ... far beyond their tender years!
That other girl’s court coverage.. wow.. Sonay Kartal?
HOLY COW she's so good I mean that's how I play at 14, I only hit way harder but she plays like that under 10?? I don't know about you but that's VERY impressive.
Wooo 🤩🤩🤩I so love her Tennis 💚🎾💯
Are these mini-courts commonplace ?
As a child we played a bit in 1 half or 1 square with soft balls, but way before 11 we were on full courts. Maybe it was too early : it makes sense to me that you learn more control if the length fits your strength.
I’ve never seen an actual painted on court like that, but at my academy they just put yellow lines across where their shorter baseline is but still used the normal width. Most people were playing on full courts a lot before 11, but at proper tournaments they still had to use orange ball or whatever one for their age category.
In my days (80's/90's) we small kids were sent out on a full court with 'normal' tennis balls. A smaller court with softer tennis balls seems much more logical. But my god, are these girls playing well!!!
Yea, in the past (before the 2000s), this was not commonplace. Nowadays, it is extremely common for young players to start playing orange ball on a 60 foot court then for green ball move to the full 72, and fianlly use what is considered a regular yellow tennis ball.
@@yasdrums It's not actually painted on, they just use tape. But yeah orange ball is supposed to be for 9 & under if that helps
Have you won a championship yet? No.
This obviously works.😁
So good!!
Amazing.
We need full match
it was too long a match to post... 6 hours 25 minutes.
My heart is too old for this...
OMG I couldn't beat a 9 year old kid. That's sad but true.
You could maybe beat most of them but perhaps these would be tougher. I don't know...I'd like to try sometime. I still feel like you could just out hit them but it might be harder than it looks, I have no idea.
Lol what if I hit everything out because I'm not used to the court size? That would be funny.
@@time410s It depends, but I couldn't win my son when he was 8, they already play very competitive at that age, orange courts are small, so its actually more challenging than playing in standard courts.
Jeez that Sonay Kartal is amazing for a nine-year old!
Increyable!!!
Good to see
What a point!
That Emma has a really bright future I can tell.
These comments are getting a bit old.
@@thepsychologist8159 nope.
She is not even in top 200 players, what bright future are you talking about?
Omg what cities…so skilled!
If Sonay Kartal is aged 9 it means Emma was 7 in this match.
It was 2011 and she's 19 now. I mean come on...

Great rally and players .
This is what good juniors should be doing on court.
Learning to play the game.
Not hitting single balls with a coach as you see a lot on Utube.
Emma is 2 years younger . She controls the rally well .
Playing at top level 2 years above?
That is amazing 👏.
Correction . Emma is 8 and Sonnay is 10 .
So a 13 month age difference. Still a big gap though . Thanks to person who provided info.
Great play by both girls.
One day, she will win the US open.

Emma!!!
Wow!!!
wow she still have the same swing
the lifting of the leg on her return of service at 10 : I thought was an Emma trait as well.
She looks better at 10 than now.
I wish I grew up playing on this size court with the quick start balls. I was stuck rallying with adults hitting heavy topspin shots over my head. This would have definitely sped up my development.
Emma Raducanu technique was awesome. It was not a fluke. Her first 14 grand slam matches are a proof. But her fourth match says it all. She has nerves issues and she can’t take pressure. In addition, she became arrogant and fired her coach who was managing her emotions and temperament too, in addition to her game, which for her was more important.
Wow
I would like to know who the other player is
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's just nuts how good these kids are... they could beat all the adults at the local tennis club lol
The media is really pushing Emma as a marketing strategy. I get it she's good, now give me other tennis information!
They do it to all the new female Grand Slam champions and expect them to be the next Serena Williams yet womens GS tournaments rarely have any consistent winners since Serena fell off. So they need to see what the future has in store for these players before jumping the gun and having them choke from media pressure. In Canada whenever a GS or Masters tournament is on literally every commercial they play has Bianca Andreescu.
She's pretty and from an English-speaking country. Hopefully her family and coaches can keep the media from distracting her too much. I can't imagine what it must be like for her to suddenly become such a superstar especially in Britain.
Niceee
So cute 😊
I think that Emma girl may even go on to winning the US open
Wow! Xxx
The court is tiny! So Cute.

Can someone enlighten me, are they using a foam ball as opposed to a tennis ball.
This was only 2012. Lol. Not too long ago.
omg sooooo cute!!!
So cute!
the little girl in yellow is on fire . Where is she now!
How old was she here ?
so cute
How old is the girl?
Why don't you talk about the girl who won the point ?
I have questions.
1. When do they start playing on a real sized court?
2. How long are these rackets and are the balanced super head heavy?
Super good tennis for the age. Interesting to see what the beginnings of a professional look like.
I can answer those!!
They start playing on real sized courts when they have gone through the levels of tennis: Orange Dot, Green Dot, and the regular!! This is just a beginning level in a smaller court!
The racket depends on how old they are so for beginners they use pretty small rackets. As they age they will get larger rackets!
I hope this helped!!
@@mia.stef.kosan. It does. So this was not regular ball tennis? The smaller rackets I see are light, short and very head heavy. Sounds terrible to play with even if you're super young, that awkward balance but maybe they have more balanced or headlight frames. Just curious.
@@time410s Yes, this is just the first level!! I hope these can help!! I play tennis myself so Ik what it means!!!
@@mia.stef.kosan. I do as well. I just don't know my jr level stuff as that's not where I play. You can see my channel for reviews for tennis stuff :)

Impressive rally. I guess smaller court creates more angles
Wow, I appreciate the coverage, thank you for that, been looking for these footage for my sports director differentiating my biomechanics during those times and my current one, these footages are unintentionally a huge help thank you
Excellent Tennis . All coaches who believe youngsters should play full size court with yellow balls ? Should watch this and realise they are wrong .
Where is Sonay now? She is pretty good too

They are (were) good, aren't they. If only I could play as well as that, after 30 years of playing tennis!!
Why do you say "(were)"?
@@lehsu Because it was 10 years ago.
You've been playing tennis for 30 years and you're not as good as they were? I've been playing for half this time(15 years) since I was almost 6 and I could destroy either of them as they were in this video
@@phil2854 so because this video was 10 years ago, they are no longer good?
@@15Stratos if you’re a professional male player, it may be possible you can destroy them. But not if you’re female.
Ok, so WTA players peak at 9 and then it's only downhill.

Emma is the one who lost the point in this video... 😅
you are not very bright aren't you
Dang Emma's pretty good. She might win a grand slam some day.
Putintseva is still shorter than all of these players.
Sonay was taller and stronger kid, at that age physical attributes make more difference.

@@gamingtonight1526 sadly, she didn't quite make the grade, just googled her and her current singles ranking is 1125. Wonder what's running through her mind now seeing Emma enjoying all the trappings of success, and wondering how things could have worked out differently for her considering how she even outplayed Emma in that rally. But at least time is on her side, being 19 herself.
헐~
That's not just natural ability. Never forget the long hours of drilling and $$$ (for specialized training, coaches, club fees, etc.).
Yes, but without natural ability, you're never going to play like this, no matter how much $ and time you put in. And the only reason that the $$ and training were invested in the first place is because natural ability showed itself early.
Which of the 2 players is Emma? Seriously, I can't tell.
The one wearing white and returning serve

one has dark hair the other fair hair....

Ok so shes been doing that baseline forehand even when she was so young
Me at 8yo : I want to be a pro tennis player !
Me at 28yo : I don't even play better.

tiny babies 🥰
Epic rally indeed. But Emma has a bad habit of going crosscourt with her approach shots, it's something I've noticed since Indian Wells and she pays the price every time. All good net rushers know that you have to try to approach down the line most of the time. In that situation I think Emma should have held the backswing a little longer until the opponent scrambles to cover the cross, and pull the trigger down the line. At worst she gets a weak reply and hits an easy putaway volley to end the point. Hopefully she will learn and fix that bad habit of hers.
Although you are correct about approaching down the line .
Bit of a strange comment. 😜
Great tennis 😁
Maybe she is going for a xcourt winner ? And did not hit it well enough? 😉
@@drejtoman2974 no. It’s something she does repeatedly. Its built deep into her game but its a flaw. If tou watch her latest match against ostapenko she did it also.
@@kleefton
I didn't see Penko match.
How many times did Emma come to the net in that match?
2 or 3times ?
WTA ? No good net players .
Many approach x court .
In relation to this match ?
You expect a 8 year old to have a developed net approach game ?
That is silly idea .
You a Coach? Work with this age group?
There is a x court winner on . She goes for it and it isn't good enough. That is all .
I would say best option was to shape up for x court and play back behind . But I wouldn't expect a 8 year old to play that .
@@drejtoman2974 i was just pointing out that its a bad habit she developed as a child. I have watched every single one of her matches since uso 21. She gets burned a lot when she comes to the net. The other more important problem is that she loves to hit behind too much instead if going to the open court. Players have caught on to that. Just watch the cornet match at the last uso and you will see. But both are part of her regular patterns and she must break that if she wants to get to the next level. She is my favorite player so its only constructive criticism. I love emna.
i dont trust channels who hide their like dislike ratios
The Nadal forehand lol
In 2022 all tha is past.
A 9 year old vs a 7 year old. A two year age gap is probably more significant at that age.
@@grantmalone No they're not. They differ by 1 year and 11 months. Sonay was born 1 Jan 2001. Emma was born 13 Nov 2002.

Good idea to train young players on pickleball size courts
So, people, Emma didn't come from nowhere, to be a Slam winner, you have to start young, very young! Wonder what happened to the other girl? If she hasn't made it at least she could look back and say she took a point off Emma when she was 9!😂
@@howard5992 false, I edited Emma's age, nothing else!
In the media and the tennis world, her ranking and matches before June this year where she played her first WTA tournament. She did come out of nowhere.
Agree! Tennis players will see from the way both players move (watch their feet) that they have already trained for years at this point. For example, notice how after hitting a ball out wide, Emma will do a shuffle-step back toward the center of the court. Untrained players won't do this.
@@jgooner894 I guess if you haven’t followed her then yes, but she was always at the top in British rankings and internationally for her year, she merely took a 1 year hiatus from tournaments around covid. but yes to most people she did come out of nowhere
@@anaisfernandez-laaksonen1506 Of course people can see she has talent before but she was still around 340 in the world so her rise is huge.
