People criticizing her for accepting all those endorsements after winning her GS. But I think anyone in her shoes would have done the same thing. You strike while you're hot. She hasn't been hot since, but she's been financially set for life even if she never achieves another thing on the tennis court. And frankly, I don't expect that she will.
No one is criticizing her for accepting endorsements, Serena got them, Martina Hingis got them, Sharapova got them, but they all proved that they were worth the endorsements. How do you get endorsements and you literally fall off the map??? The problem is she didn't have a good enough team around her to prepare her for the fame and fortune and now she doesn't look like a decent player let alone a former grand slam champ.

@@brettpilkington9539She's literally a one hit wonder, hasn't even won a WTA tournament but can win a grand slam with mid difficulty at best. Hingis and serena were showing unbelievable potential before they won the grand slams. She's 21 and she's had more injuries and coach changes than most would have in 10 years, those are ment to be her prime years. Selles and Hingis from 16 to like 21 were awesome.
But she let them take over her career
It can't be overstated how crazy it must have been for her to win the USO like that. Regardless of her draw, the way she tore through that draw and won the Final is absolutely wild. It was almost inevitable that she would not have been able to keep that up. Going through coaches like she has cannot be a good thing. It is pretty weird to me that she would sack the coach that was by her side when she somehow won the USO. In team sports, it is reasonable to give a coach a few years to develop a winning culture and implement their ideas. However, it seems in tennis that many players do not have the same patience.
She won without dropping a set and didn't choke so the media hyped her as the next great star.

That is just a good example that, relatively said, anyone of top 100 can play the highest level of tennis but then the question "for how long" comes and here the answer looks to be 1 tournament.

Leylah for having the tougher draw, it’s not as if she claimed she was a new tennis superstar, it’s the British fans and media who exaggerated her win.
@@jeffvanderwerf3391 the key is the player has to filter out the BS media. She had a favorable draw for sure. Leyla Fernandez was in the final. Both are struggling. Many approach the top. Few get there and fewer remain. It's easier to win as the unknown. Her team should have warned her about the shark motivated media. Maybe the original coach did and got the pink slip. My guess is the parents saw the $$$ and showed her that commercial path. She may not be in this for the long haul. Is she truly motivated? Is she a true warrior? My gut says no way. Looks to me the road to get to being USO champ was a long difficult journey for the family and that climb has just begun if she wants to remain at the top. It's human nature to let up after the money grab. I don't fault her but I just think she doesn't have the drive to grind out a living on the tour. I saw Leyla after the French doubles final so sad and crying. I really like her. I love her game too but she is not cut out for this day in and day out. It's a grind. Maybe neither have the killer instinct. There must be other ways to make a living and both of these girls are so young and have quite the head start. I wish both of them well but Emma needs to commit to this LIFE or not. If she were my daughter I'd tell her invest the money and turn the page. Start a life she wants. Seeing Venus playing is insulting to the game and getting a wild card ridiculous to Wimbledon. It shows how psychotic even a 44 year can be. And as much as I love Novak to be as great as he is you gotta be a bit psychotic. Emma got a nice pay day and doesn't have any student debt so she's ahead of the game compared to other people her age who face a lifetime of student debt and job uncertainty. Go buy some high end Income Producing Real Estate and live off the income and do volunteer work. Who in their right mind would want to be 44 begging to play in tournaments?
The irony of all this was right after winning the US Open in 2021, she announced she was looking for a new coach who would put her in position to consistently go deeper in into future tournaments and Slams. Since then, the exact OPPOSITE has happened. 🤔
Success requires time and patience.

Part of the reason is this. The smooth ball they used at the US Open that year allowed less powerful players like Emma to hit thru the ball with real pace, which also explains the other finalist who is not powerful either. Also, many major players that year did not show up. So, her fall from grace is exaggerated partly because of the exaggerated height she 'fell' from.

Don't know about your first point (ball design), but I 100% agree with your second point; it was precisely my assessment after all the hype she was getting (especially from people who don't really watch the game). It was a series of fortuitous events (in terms of her pairings for all the rounds). Yes she met a few good players but it just so happened they played surprisingly badly against her. She's not a bad player at all but the quality of her play is not Grand Slam Champion worthy (for now at least).
I wish her the best though, she does have some potential.
it's not even that the major players didn't show up. top players weren't playing or training as they used to, and professional athletes will attest that even the slightest drop in training intensity results in drastic drops in their playing level. The silly british press didn't help either, projecting she'll earn billions in her career just after ONE fluke slam win.

She is not alone. There is just too many good and exceptional players in the field of tennis. Winning one tournament will not guarantee a future win in the next.

Rodrigo Balibalita - Agree, when she got walloped by Rybakina 6-0, 6-1, it was like watching an adult playing a schoolgirl. How she managed to win the US is a total mystery.

Worth remembering that Raducanu has never even won a single set off a Top-10 ranked player.
I worked with her mum Rene for 10 years, such a hard working sweet woman, used to see Emma when she was a kid in the office now and then she has literally dedicated her whole life to tennis from young and comes from such a humble hard working mother.

Obviously being labelled a ‘kid’ at the age of already 20 is the real problem. No one thought it was a problem for the 17 year old Wimbledon winner Boris Becker and the 17 tear old Steffi Graf winning 1 week before her 18th birthday the French open! I think the huge amount of money that is thrown nowadays on sports icons is very detrimental to them.

The part not mentioned is that like many young players her parents are over meddling in the decisions which will keep good coaches away.

For real, she has to kick them out at one point
She is a decent player who hit the lottery in terms of circumstances (didn't meet any high seeds, mid-range seeds that she did meet were coming off COVID breaks and so forth) and made the most of it. She took advantage of the hype to make a fortune off the court and never has to work another day in her life. Where's the problem? If there's any regret, it should be the brands that decided to invest in her.

The one that made her a winner
Yep, that is a part of it. Tennis is such a mental game, and for whatever reason that coach helped her stay in a state of mind that helped her win. But she decided that because she had become a big star she needed a more renowned coach. Don't mess with success.
@@PaulWolfe1 It's hard to find a good coach. Andre might help her win US Open, but it doesn't mean he is a good coach. In an interview Emma said the she kept switching coaches either because they pushed her too hard to the point of injuries or just saw her as a piggy bank. Her winning was more inportant than her health, mental or physical. If she was sattispied with her first coachs tchniques I doubt she would fire him for new one.

This is not the only time this has happened. Sofia Kenin is now ranked 125 and struggles to qualify. Another player that comes to mind who probably suffered from the overhype and media exposure is Anna Ivanovic.
Oh yeah I forgot about her. She exploded onto the scene then kinda disappeared. Anna did win a Grand Slam though. Other great players who fell short are Eugenie Bouchard and Sabine Lisicki who both made Wimbledon finals but then disappeared. That's why if you get the chance to be in Grand Slam finals you must win it because you'll never get another chance again.

So many 1 GS winner women, lots still playing and have never achieved it again. The womens game just isn't as consistent as the men due to 3 sets and the all out attack style of game. It's quite common for a woman to get one lucky run, win a slam but never manage it again. For Emma she also seems very genetically fragile so she was even luckier that she managed that run without her body breaking.
She went to two Slam finals and stayed in the Top 10 before several injuries. I don't see these as the same.
@@NamesAreRandom - There are also male players with 1-Grand Slam titles. There is nothing wrong with that. Not everyone can be Djokovic or Serena Williams and win multiple Grand Slams. ATP is also inconsistent honestly. That’s just the nature of tennis. All players in WTA and ATP are becoming too good. On the men’s side, Fritz, FAA, Coric, Thiem, Zverev, Rune, etc will win then lose but they can also be consistent in terms of qualifying for big matches. Women’s side, Sabalenka, Pegula, Gauff, Rybakina, Swaitek, Jabeur, are all very consistent in terms of qualifying for quarters and semifinals. Then you have players such as Sakkari, Kenin, and Garcia who are inconsistent but Garcia is a good player having won 3 Masters 1000 tournaments (I think?) and the 2022 WTA finals. On the men’s side, you have inconsistent players like Fritz and Rune who won ATP-1000 titles but lose here and there. Even Tiafoe, male player can be inconsistent. So, WTA isn’t the only inconsistent one because ATP also has inconsistent players. Unless you’re Djokovic, Iga, Carlos, Coco, Sybalenka, Rybakina, and a few others who are consistent then we all can argue “inconsistent” all day. But at the end of the day, these male and female players try their best. Sometimes injuries can lead to inconsistent results.
There are so many good tennis players from all over the world. It's very hard to stay on top. You can tell she's training very hard but so is the competition.
Her friends said she parties very hard. She drinks a whole bottle of cognac like nothing.
I am really surprised and find that very hard to believe.
Definitely the competition is reaching insane levels right now. Emma will have her hands full making deep runs into future WTA1000s and Slams. Only time will tell...

The talent in women / girl section is hard to believe For a moment one thinks this player has come to stay but no It is far more competitive than men for reasons I can't fathom
The demands that come with being a professional athlete is nothing short of insane, and sometimes it’s very small margins that differentiate these players and we’ve seen how they break down both physically and emotionally so hopefully she can bounce back
Fast rise fast crash
All of Emma's problems since USO 21 were due to her body not being ready to deal with the grind of the tour, especially her wrist issues which had been plaguing her since juniors. I am hopeful that the surgeries will finally address her wrist issues and with her new workout routine she'll grow strong enough to come roaring back, finally playing at the level her talent and great work ethic allow her. But hopefully she won't rush back and risk further injuries, wait until she's fully healed.
Good point. That is the problem with arriving ahead of schedule. Remember the All-England club gave her a wild card that she did not deserve. She parlayed that into stardom and earned enough money to finance her trip to New York. Everything fell her way in an off year (Covid, things still funky). She reached the final without having to defeat anyone in the Top 20. So she didn't get that hard climb that helps to develop character and physical toughness. She wasn't ready for what was coming. She is still so young that she can recover. But she has to want it and when you have that much money and little life experience, it might be hard to want it enough to work extra hard.

Shes 21...female tennis that's prime. Anything after 18 usually to 25/26.
People forget she also played really well at the 2021 Wimbledon. I think it was just a magical year that culminated in that US Open. She played exceptionally well, but her draw also really opened up. She doesn't strike me as someone who is physically dominant, like Swiatek or Rybakina. I think she's trying to remake her body like those players, but her health is not holding up.
It happens and keep in mind she is a Grand Slam winner. Many players fall short. Like Sabine Lisicki and Eugenie Bouchard both made Wimbledon finals but never got a taste of that success again. Emma actually has a Grand Slam.
She should look another aproach, she can be really fast and quick, but shes not exhuberant physically like Rybakina, Osaka, Swiatek or Sabalenka, she needs to develop.variety, i see her more like a potential "modern Martina hingis" i'm her style of play, but of shes going for strenght and power she Will Lost what Made her special in the first place

I have to say I did have an initial sense of schadenfreude for her after she sacked two consecutive coaches that brought her success, however, she is talented so I expected her to slowly improve - and that hasn't happened.
It seems that physically she just may not be robust enough to play on the Tour - so the jury is out on her in my opinion.
I've just listened to Iga speaking after the WTA finals in Cancun and the question to her was; What advice would you give to an aspiring player, to which she responded; 'get some good people around you, people you trust and can work with. I was lucky - I found those people quickly'.

She's constantly injured and has just had multiple surgeries. None of this matters. Andreescu was legit top tier, won a Slam and now her career is mostly over also due to injuries. She still has good talent but clearly not the same player she was as in 2019.

They all play like complete morons, just attack the second serve as much as possible, got for winners constantly so you get these matches where they could win the first set 6-1 and lose the second set 1-6. Young players are just pushing (being pushed?) so much more than their predecessors. I mean, look at Alcaraz. Emma and him came up around the same time and they're both suffering physically. One just happened faster than the other one. I do not believe Emma's a one time wonder. Yes, her draw in the US Open really opened up but she still beat Sakkari and Bencic, who came from winning an Olympic gold medal that year. When she plays well, she plays really well and we she doesn't, well she doesn't. A lot came at her after winning which distracted her from her tennis. It's up to her if she wants to be a tennis player or a model. I really hope she chooses tennis player. I'm rooting for her.
It’s so important to have a strong team with you when you’re young. Nadal was really fortunate to have his uncle manage his career for so long
She won her major event in the middle of strict COVID restrictions on tour when most of the top-ranked players were either out-of-shape, hardly playing, in bad form, and generally not competitively tough. How else to explain not one, but two such lowly-ranked players BOTH in the same US Open final? These once-in-a-lifetime circumstances worked perfectly for Leylah and Emma and they took advantage. In fact, there's no way a final like that will EVER happen again with such longshots playing for the title. It is no coincidence that we haven't heard a positive thing, tennis-wise, from Emma or Leylah again after that match. Their current rankings are exactly where their talent-level on tour says it is.
And they even used lighter tennis balls for women at the USO - probably suited her better.

Playing more doubles is a really good idea.
The stars aligned for her at the US Open and she took full advantage and it's a great achievement . But events since have shown that this win was probably a one off , a freak occurrence. I hope I am wrong and she gets back to being competitive at least.
The sport has evolved into a grinding style of game & the competition level on tour is deep. Most players physically will break down once they’re touring regularly. Sustained excellence by any player will be rarer than in the past. Emma’s probably peaked & will be retired in under 5 years. Same for flashes like Kenin & Andreescu. They’re prettymuch done too

when you go through half a dozen coaches in the space of a couple of years then the problem is you, not the coaches
I know she's young and all of that but everytime I hear her being interviewed I become less impressed with her as a serious competitor.
It's come to a point now where I just don't really care.
Bottom line is she's no match for any player in the top 20 and most probably never will be.
Going through 7 coaches gives a good insight into her inflated attitude of self importance. My guess is she wants the fame but not the hard work involved in getting to the top.
In horse racing terms she's basically an "also ran".
She's wealthy now so maybe an early retirement is on the cards.
She might need to get a better adviser on what she needs best to continue her career successfully. I've got the impression that for the moment, she relies too much just on her parents to guide her and probably the parents have got different kinds of values which doesn't match the situation and they put too much pressure on her to succeed.
Probably what has happened with Sharapova some time ago when she was relying mainly on her father's quidance, which put lots of pressure on her.
Emma will eventually figure out her way...with the right advisers.

True, I also think that it's important to point out circumstances she won US grand, and the opponent she faced in the final, covid had a lot to do with it, many players were not at their best and some never came., that win doesn't show enough about her resilience.

Thanks. Ms. Raducanu has the benefit of youth. Sports medicine is light years ahead of most of the stuff we get, simply because of the money & prestige involved. Addressing the surgeries now is good. This way, she can start anew, knowing that she's done it before. Good luck to her. tavi.

If you watch tennis, very few men or women win consistently when it comes to trophies.
This seasons the ones I see consistently in finals.
Men: Djoko, Alvarez, Med, Rune, Sinner, Tsisipas are the big guns
Women: Sablenka, Rybinka, Iga I maybe missing a few
Emma just had a good run but she has talent. Truth is in Tennis lots that lose have just as much talent.
She just needs a good coach and stick with him/her and find consistency.

She definitely didn't have a good support network around, but has to take a lot of the blame herself. The standard of women's tennis has never been so high and struggle to see her getting close to winning a major.
Her serve peaks at 110 mph not 110 kph as you stated, which is barely 66mph.
It’s too early to judge how well the rest of her career will go but prior to the surgery she was not a top 20 player.. the level of competition is really high and Emma’s first mistake leadin to this valley is clearly the sacking of Richardson..
Her success in the US Open is largely attributed to her opposition not showing up that year.

I am not a tennis player but I am sure the sport consistently demands perseverance, determination, and commitment to be better as a player every day. Deals, sponsorships, and endorsements should always come last and are considered a small part of a player's career. Once one jumps on it too fast and with no real control, he or she is likely set to doom and doom quickly.

To be the best you need raw talent, but after that you cut yourself off from the media and outside world. You live in a world a bubble of sacrifice . Emma never did she courted and still courts the media, said this from day one.
Winning a Slam just months into your tennis career must feel like winning a fortune on the Lottery, like litterally millions then suddenly you have to eat sensibly get 9 to 11 hours a sleep a night and be really up and eager for the fight and grind of the WTA tour ,thats a lot to ask for a young girl just barely outta school. Novak came from humble even poor beginings but wealth and fortune didn't soften him but then thats why he's Novak with 23 Slams and counting.
All credit to Novak for overcoming hardships in his youth... war is horrendous, but exactly how poor was he? I know that's the story we're told - but does anybody know specifics? Did he grow up in a shack, like people in Brazil or Haiti? Anybody? Bueller?
@@orchidpanda2253 Check out Novaks fathers wiki page he borrowed money from anyone he could looked for sponsorship everywhere ,eventually secured loans at huge rates of interest everything the family had was put in to young Novaks tennis his brothers probably went hungry at times, if he failed as so many brilliant junior players do his family would have been ruined thats why his personality was so cocky but likeable when he was just arriving on the scene it was a strategy to attract sponsorship and get some money before the big prize money could be won on the court. Believe me you can hype yourself up in this game just look at Donald Young his parents billed him as a male Serena.
I heard Novaks Mum say to the media once that his brothers gave up their childhoods so Novak could have his dream I mean they supported him completely but also they looked to him to lift them out of the poverty and debt they were stuck in. I saw a Davis Cup match in 2005 and heard that Novak was offered huge sums of money and extensive sponsorship and coaching support if he would switch to British citizenship and represent Britian in team competitions but at this point it was obvious he wad going to be the next great player yes its an interesting thought if he was born in a slum in South America but and he is a brilliant athlete who would have been playing soccer on the steets with other kids but if got his hands on a tennis racket and some tennis balls a handful of times he would have stood out and probably got regional support and his drive to play and compete in tennis was enormous.
It's safe to say that the US open 2021 women's singles should be listed as anomaly. Not only her, but also her opponent in the final, leylah fernandez. Both emma & leylah seemed to be the future of women's tennis back then, but where are they now? Thing like this also happened during Wimbledon 2022, the one rybakina won. I thought she will never rise to the challenge again after that, but how wrong i was.
Leylah F is still competing and earned millions last year from prizes and endorsements.

Her mind took over, instead of playing by instinct. The multiple coaches where trying to make into a player much different to her initial play style. Her initial coach allowed her to play in a style more suited for her. The wrist issue is her putting to much emphasis on a power game. There are a bunch of mistakes made but she has to be the one to figure out how to go forward.
Her coach at UO had only been with her for 5 weeks... It's not like he was with her for 5 years grooming her. Nobody does any research

Emma is displaying red flags of narccisum as displayed by high turn over of staff, this means she probably struggles with any criticism.. But her technique is very very injury prone, see coach Andre, she rotates through her ankles and knees which are not designed for rotation but for dorsaflextion .. she will need a total revamp of technique if she is to get back to her best.
That's interesting that you bring that up. I'll have to observe and analyze. Perhaps, in terms of technique, it's a coordination problem. I should know a little about that since I learned how I was engaging the wrong muscles. It's through resistance training and other exercises that I "awakened" certain muscles, if that makes sense.
Maybe Emma is just trying to find the right team.

It's probably not going to make a difference going back to that coach. It's on her to find someone to stick with and understand that she'll have to be very patient. FAA was patient, and look at what happened last year. There's a folly in expecting immediate certain results, and she needs someone who will tell her straight up that it's going to take possibly a long time and commitment, and if she's not ready for that, then not only will they not be the right match, but she'll probably end up wasting a lot of time.
As for the physical aspect, I might disagree. Might. I don't recall her or many other WTA players, for that matter, making physical conditioning, training, and fitness a very high priority. This aspect matters in how much you reduce the likelihood of you getting injured. I will add that nutrition matters as well. All of this can help build a strong mind, which is what this video seems to imply that she's lacking.
I will add that given what is presented in this video, it doesn't look good with the endorsement aspect. Perhaps if I had heard how she turned down more endorsements out of principle and commitment, I'd feel otherwise. I understand that money is important, but how you earn it should matter. It can possibly be the difference between being able to sustain yourself and bouncing around.
I'll close with this. For her, she needs to accept responsibility, which it doesn't sound like she's very good at. It's not the coach, the press, or any external factors. It's her. Take on as much responsibility as you can, and bear it!

The biggest problem she has right now is that her body is not durable. If she keeps getting injured, she could have Lendl coaching her and it will not help one bit. The news always mentions the coaches she fires, what does not get coverage is the fact that not many reputable coaches even want to entertain an interview with her team. Not all of that is her fault but that is the reality she is facing.

As for her body and its durability, it might be hard for her to make it sufficiently durable now. I theorize that unless you have trained and grown up playing very physically, it will be harder to gain a body that will be sufficiently durable to withstand the kind of performances she'll need to put on to stay at the very top. My guess? She'd have to give up a good amount of modeling and advertising and other side gigs to do so.

Regarding her durability, this is a more serious concern. As you say, the nutrition will help her, but she has to have the best physical fitness team on the payroll, and the willingness to put in the work. She will have to have the discipline of a monk.
A couple of things and all IMO:
She won the US open where all the top players we not present due to injuries and basically exhaustion (end of season)
After winning the US open, the first thing she’d done was kicking her current coach to the curbs.
For whatever reason the media has latched onto her and her management hasn’t really managed this right (looking long term) yes, she got all sorts of high end endorsements but if she doesn’t improve those endorsements will be short lived. She could probably switch to modeling so there’s that. All IMO and good luck to her!

There are many things that could be affecting her but 1 glaring one is she changes coaches too often, a lack of continuity can affect her game.
Looks like she has the same problem I had as a competitive athlete, not knowing how to recover and rejuvenate properly to stay strong and healthy.
I believe she's a one-time wonder, which I've stated after her amazing win and the follow-up dizzying media hype. In my mind its like ...poor Emma... hopefully the ore3ss and media give her a breathing space.
Yea, I don't ever see her sniffing another GS. The stars aligned for her on that one. She hasn't even gone deep in another tournament since, or before, for that matter.

I was wondering about her but also about some other female tournament winners which suddenly seem to be gone. Get away from the media craziness and slowly build up again.
Saw a video of her strength training and thought it's no wonder she's constantly injured.
So, she's most definitely not going to retire as a legend in women's tennis, nor have a stellar career, but she will always have that one moment in time, where she played out of her mind to make history. Still something to be proud of. The coaching carousel is probably the worst part of her downfall though and a big contributor to it.
Both of the finalist are just average players that had the luckiest draw to make it to the finals at US Open. I don't think either of them will ever be in a Grand Slam final again.

Firing your coach after he had helped you win the US Open as a qualifier is INSANE! 7 coaches in 2 years is INSANE! Three surgeries by age 21 is bad harbinger of physical frailty. She's toast. Mental and physically unsuited for professional anything.
I predicted she'd win only one immediate after her one grand slam. She should be happy with that. I'm not at all surprised at all. She's a great player. But the ladies ATP is stacked with so many new talents. Many great ladies on the ATP tour. I don't think we'll see anyone one dominant player in the ladies ATP currently? All the next 7 grand slams will surprise us with different champions, perhaps?

STICK WITH 1 COACH! You have to stick with a coach throughout the course of a couple of seasons before you know if it is working or not. The grass is usually not always greener. I honestly think that she should have stuck with her youth coach. At least she has that solid relationship with someone who has seen her work her way up and know her best.
Emma had a dream draw at the US Open. Lila Fernandez was the toughest player she encountered. No Swiatek, no Rybakina, no Sabalenka, no Jabeur etc. After exposed to instant and explosive fame, she fell into a morbid state of hypochondria, which has continued and worsened ever since. Her primary issue is between her ears. Emma's primary love is adulation, NOT tennis.
She's a psychological mess.
I'd add that she's probably the only winner of a Major that may not even qualify for admission into another.

How can you say she had easy draws? She played Sakkari, Bencic, Rogers, etc and won as a qualifier. She didn’t even drop a set and you say that it was a dream draw. Sure, the media was a big part of her illnesses, but it would be ridiculous to say she doesn’t love tennis.

Sometimes it is better to win late than to win early. Winning late give you the impression of appreciation of yourself that winning require a lot of work. I mean really a lot of work.
Emma is a good example of press overhyping someone to crazy extend. She won just one slam and they were trying to make her a new Monica Seles or Martina Hingins. Of course thanks to that and the fact that she is very young and pretty she earned tons of money and now she does not need to be worried about that.
Emma's game is actually 150-200 in the world - where it was when she won the title. She took advantage of a relatively easy draw and the burnout of top players due to Covid associated hassles such as not being able to train properly & getting injured, testing positive to Covid and being fatigued. She won the title & enjoyed many endorsements and lots of cash but I don't think we will ever see her reach the top again. Maybe not even top 100.
In May 2023, Emma Raducanu had 2 surgeries on both her wrists and one on her left ankle. Up until then she had been have pain killing injections in order to play her matches. The medical people said only surgery would solve her problem. So she went under the knife. In August she was was given the all clear to begin practicing. She has slowly been building up her strength and fitness and playing matches with a variety of different players. The doctors are pleased with her progress and agree that she should be ready to return to the WTA beginning next year 2024. She is not the first tennis player to suffer injuries after winning a Grand Slam, Sofia Kenin, Bianca Andreescu have had the same injury issues but have fought back and Emma will do the same. So everyone, be patient.
She simply has no weapons. The USO she won she only needed to be consistent and avoid errors. She didn't even face a top 10 player the whole tourney.
Leave her injuries heal up, her body and mind to 're freshen up and reset every part of her game and she can return for a second chance at glory. She has the talent to do so and is young enough still.
She'll improve, or maybe not. Either way, it's *her* responsibility and the blame can't be pinned on anyone else.

Only Radacanu can decide if she wants to become a Top 20 player on a consistent basis or rely on her looks and wonderful smile to make money through product endorsements and commercial opportunities. The talent is there but talent alone is not enough. It has to be accompanied by desire, will and work ethic. I hope she decides to do whatever makes her happiest.
Stick with one coaching team. Get in physical shape to prevent injuries. And have a style of play on the court. If that is more of defensive or attacking player with serves. She needs to go back to basics
She's now parading everywhere with a bandage on her wrist. We get it girl you are injured. She looks too happy to be out of court for a ambitious tennis player. Her main focus is attending fashion shows even if she's injured
She was 18 yo when she won...how a kid can manage that pressure? She started believe she is the best and also fashion style. Parties, sponsors, fans made her gone crazy. She will recover now that she lost a lot of matches and she has no more pressure. If she will be a top player or not it's something we will see in the future.
Ash Barty started on the circuit when she was 15 and had quite a lot of success - particularly in doubles (runner up in 3 grand slams). She took time off at (I think 18 years old) and played cricket for a few years. Came back and climbed steadily to #1 in the world and holding that ranking for a record duration. It's not about age - it's about mental strength, emotional grounding and discipline (along with natural talent, hard work and good coaching and support).

Wasn't that crazy how Raducanu born in Toronto beat the other youngster Canadian Fernandez also from Toronto , who beat the best in order to get to the 2021 US open final only to meet someone unranked who beat her and won all of the prizes and endorsements but couldn't win again after.

What happened? She revealed her 2021 US Open win was a statistical outlier, and we found out afterward that she was a not a tennis player after all.
At her young age, it's still too early to give a verdict, unless she has a debilitating injury. Injuries have cut short many careers, such as those of young phenoms in recent memory like Melanie Oudin and CiCi Bellis. If Raducanu could come back from this, then we would look back on this period as just a slump in her career. Btw, this video's thumbnail is from the January 2023 Auckland tournament where Emma suffered an ankle injury that left her in tears.
plus women's tennis right now is so competitive.. there are 3 women who are consistent... iga, Aryna, and elena...... even the current top 10... Emma's game won't hurt them

Bibi is my favourite athlete in all sports. If she retired with never winning another major, I would always appreciate her for that glorious day in New York, brilliantly taking out the GOAT on her home turf, with class and dignity during the match and award ceremony, never patronizing the crowd for love, like I see so often. Rather she have been a 1 hit wonder than hold no major trophy at all. I think English fans should think of that possibility with Emma, regardless of the reasons and hold her day in New York as precious. Truthfully, I would welcome her back in Canada being one of us. People tend to purchase racquets/clothing etc associated with players they admire. Today at a sports shop I witnessed first hand customers and kids who are not purchasing items with any image of Ridiculanu commenting that she is just hopeless !!!

Many have already said it. Amazing win at the US Open. But after the win, she became a media darling. Endorsement, fame, all came too easily. Could she have focused more on tennis? Likely yes.
This goes to show how much work and dedication it takes to get to the top and stay there. And here's the rub. Even if she did refocuses on tennis, it guarantees nothing. Talent alone is not enough. Most players in the top 50, 75, even 100 are just as talented. But it takes A LOT of work.
You have to be a raw gifted talent in any sport. There are no real out and out decent players in the womens game at present. If you have a lucky day lucky draw anyone can win a major. The mens will be much the same soon, but that Spanish kid is a fantastic talent,. Not only a major winner, but has won other tournaments only 19 years old I believe or around that age.
People having expectations of individual sports stars always seems odd to me. What business is it of anyone else how she does in competition? Focus on the winners

can we be honest. We've seen this story with Anna Kornikova and Eugene Bouchard. Beautiful looking people with ungodly egos and disrespect whose celebrity is more important than their tennis. All the ego and tennis losses comes from deep insecurity; thus, those who think their above all other, as in fact lower. Humility lacks in their consciousness, thus we all cheer the loses because their personhood is rather pathetic.
Raducanu is a well educated British. The problem is the "Naomi Osaka" effect, too much spotlight / business, and not enough focus on tennis. Money kills the hunger for excellence, she's just happy to be the only qualifier to EVER win a Grand Slam.
