Mohamed Lahyani is truly the GOAT of umpires. He is focused on the match and doesn't let his ego get involved- like so many other umpires do.
Sometimes he does make it a little too much about him - that match with Rune on clay last year where he made some dodgy calls and was being a bit extravagant shall we say.

Mohamed Lahyani has the perfect amount of patience and humor to deal w the temper tantrum toddler that is Kyrgios. Had the pleasure of meeting Lahyani at Indian Wells - he's a lovely person of court too.
I'd give anything to have drinks with Lahyani and other umpires. The stories and perspectives they must have but cannot publicly share must be a treasure trove.

This umpire is one of the greatest umpires in the game of tennis. Nick was going crazy and his behavior was pathetic.

Kyrgios is an insufferable tool who thinks the world revolves around him. I was so disappointed that the Break Point series spent so much time on him. Really feeds an ego that doesn’t need any help getting bigger.
I was so disappointed with Break Point. It made him look like a monster. You obviously believed it. He didn't have to go on. Most players refused. The ones who did go on it put their necks on the line for the good of the sport. And look what it did for their careers. Netflix highlighted only the worst part of them. We saw nothing else. And you believed it!!!
@@sportslover2356 LOL my opinion of Kyrgios was *not* formed by the Netflix show, I've paid attention to his behavior and words (from his own mouth) for years and I can't stand him. That's why I was disappointed that the show spent so much time on him.

@@sportslover2356 Interesting, because all of my family members other than the ones that played tennis think that Kyrgios is just misunderstood and they all love him due to how Break Point depicts him, so you may be one of the only people to think Break Point makes him into a monster. What makes him into a monster, is his terrible attitude towards tennis and how he displays that on court.
I love Lahyani, such a good umpire. Even the way he talks to the players is great.

he got suspended for telling him to not let one call break his concentration? That's a little ridiculous, the umpire's job is also to maintain order in the match, which is what that comment was trying to do.

The umpire is correct about the angle for the center line, it's not easy to judge that or the far line from where he is sitting.
i remember when that netflix series came out this year there were hints of Nick and friends trying to explain why he is how he is or initiate sympathy like he has the monopoly on excuses, just made me hate him even more. I struggle to think of many athletes with a chip this big on their shoulder

Look, Tennis is and can be a very frustrating sport and you may do things like breaking rackets and stuff on court, but the way Nick denies having thrown the bottle by saying it slipped out of his hand is shameful. Very very shameful. Take responsibility for your actions and apologise instead of giving ridiculous excuses that cannot be true.

@Peteherrera1502 You're exactly right. And I think the second part of your comment answers the first. He IS so talented, which gets him into the top 64 (or 128) to play with the elite. They can fine him, even suspend him for a few months (e.g. Zverev, Shapovalov) Additionally, unfortunately, I believe a lot more people than I would like to imagine like to watch these train wrecks. (maybe to see what he'll do next.)
Forget about his immaturity and narcissism for a second. If he actually practiced, had a coach, and ½-way listened to them, imagine how good he could be combined with his innate talent. That's what kills me. Wasted talent.
He would be in a lot more Major Finals than just the Djokovic loss.

The absolutely worst behaved guy temper flaring, F bombs everywhere, constantly snapping at ball kids playing against one of the most naturally well behaved guys I don't think Kei could be a brat even if he was trying to, talk about a study in contrasts.
Pro tennis would collapse in a month if the majority of guys acted like Kyrgios.
He's always been my fave umpire. So warm, yet knowledgable.

Umpire is fantastic. William to show a little grace and humor and explain his reasoning. It’s a tough job because these calls can affect matches but he seems to do well and isn’t the slightest bit arrogant about his calls.
Not sure why this umpire is engaging with this Kyrgios player over circular argumentative arguments - just dock him a point every time he loses his rag !

Well, one thing we learned - great a player as Kyrgios is/was, he's fine to umpire if you're willing to make the high maintenance required. Hopefully Nishikori was so well looked after too.

in tennis the players have so much influence that they can cancel umpires if they dont like them. Sounds good that players have a lot of influence but thats the reason umpires with one leg are kicked out if they take a stand against celeb player shitheads like Kyrgios or Serena Williams.

Umpires are suppose to keep the calm and control situations. By responding to guys like Kyrgios, he taunting the beast.

6:02 kyrgios hit his backhand before the call came, the fact that shot was out meant the point should be Nishikoris. Ump claims call was at the same time but really he is giving Kyrgios his metaphorical bottle to avoid the tempur tantrum.
9:30 line judge rules in favor of Kyrgios yet again, having them replay a point that should have been given to Nishikori. The point would have been replayed, but kyrgios challenged the shot Nishikori "I am challenging anyway" shot was in yet they still replay the point?

I’ve never watched tennis before, so I don’t understand much of what’s going on. But I think I may take up watching the sport just to see the games this guy lost, lol! He is so insufferable! The opponent seems quite humble though, and I love the referee (forgive me if that’s the wrong terminology) who seems very compassionate, fair, and patient.
