      The key techniques that work for me is the prepare early and keep the grip loose to generate more power and to not be afraid to hit long. Top spin then seems to come more naturally and the length corrects itself through the flight path of the ball.

      Swinging loose has always come natural to me.
      Lately I've been focusing heavily on weight transfer (with proper timing) and contact further outside my body. The power increase is for sure noticeable and will surprise your opponent.

    Thanks Patrick, I am 74 and have recently restarted playing with some friends who are younger and fitter. Much has changed since I played back in the 1960's, and your lessons are really helpful and at my age, it is not really logical to start paying for lessons to improve or re-learn.     Before responding to your question, let me first say that I've observed you in players' boxes for over a decade. I came to your channel because I was impressed by a recent TikTok in which you diagnosed Kyrios with the "Syndrome of the Talented Player." I've watched almost everything on your channel; the masterclasses and shorts are fantastic! The production quality is world-class, and the tips are products of a lifetime of observing the thoughts and behaviors of players.
    You asked how these 4 power-boosting techniques improved my game. After learning about Tip #4, I shifted from an extreme semi-western forehand grip to a more moderate one, and, sure enough, I could extend my lever and generate more power. I have NEVER heard that rationale before. Thanks for sharing these unique conceptual connections with the world. I'll be telling all my intermediate to advanced tennis students about you.

      How long did it take you to develop new muscle memory? With moderate play I changed my one-handed backhand to two handed backhand in the course of 2 years

    Thanks Patrick, as a professional Tennis Trainer in Austria I fully agree with your aproache to generate power. Especially the usage of extrem grips was always disapointing for me.     I respect these rules every time I play..I started 3 years ago and I play almost every day(sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, I love tennis)..my balls are fast and my serve is near 200km /h..I'm 45 y.o. and I think I should have start much earlier 😞😞😞

    For many years people thought the power of tennis shots depends on muscle strength, so many athletes spent hours in the gym improving their maximums on bench press, squat and pull-up. Now we have finally understood that we do the speed to the ball thanks to our technique, coordination and other specific factors. I'm not saying training in the gym is not useful, but we have to know what our players need to improve their tennis first.

    Thanks for all the lessons
    Since I play Tennis with my left hand, at the end of the session or sometimes at the beginning I throw a ball with my Right hand which is my normal throwing hand against the wall and it allows for my rotation to have a much better balance and have noticed that improvement.

    It's amazing how how often in tennis coaching the exercises/drills are great, but develop something other than what is claimed, and would be explained in a first year biomechanics/physics university course. If you do enough drills there is a chance all aspects will stil be covered. "The Four elements of power"....well one out of 4 as a definitive is not too bad. Though the arm is not totally "relaxed", it simply has less restriction by the antagonists to the desired movement; it is easier to feel the relaxation of them than the torso, due to the effects of leverage in rotational forces. One way to relax those antagonists is to actively engage the desired muscles. Also the benefit of a longer arm is only one factor along with the ability to provide power to it in the time available; longer limbed players don't always hit faster than shorter players. There is also the need to measure or know where a player's strongest muscle contractions are to know where that power is being better delivered. for example: Don't mention the Kyrgios examples amongst the fastest ever hit FH.
    There is no benefit from more "bodyweight into the ball", and this is as clearly demonstrated throughout the examples as it is in every pro match. The magnet concept is correct, but because the improved positioning allows better confidence that torso contribution won't have to be decelerated through the arm in what is described as the tree concept. Does a branch whipping in the wind not hurt because the tree trunk does not continue into you when contact is made?
    Perhaps most recreational players, like the ones commenting that these are great, simply don't like to understand the scientific concepts which could explain all these even more directly; which is lucky because it seems most coaches don't understand how to structure coaching to use drills that employ them for the simplest progression.

      You make interesting points but you don't explain them clearly enough nor do you develop an argument. For example, you write:

      I have no idea what this sentence means. What is "as a definitive"? Maybe English is not your native language. Also, it would be nice to know, for the sake of clarity, which of the four points of Mouratoglou you think is helpful.
      And then there is this sentence:
      "There is no benefit from more "bodyweight into the ball", and this is as clearly demonstrated throughout the examples as it is in every pro match. "
      After this sentence, you immediately move on to the magnet concept, leaving it unclear why the weight dispatch tip supposedly does not work (as you claim).

    Eu sei que inconscientemente eu aperto muito a mão no cabo da raquete e quando me concentro para não fazer isso, sinto sim que minha bola ganha muito mais giro e peso. Infelizmente os professores que eu fiz aula por aqui, nos ensinaram a bater a bola quando ela está descendo (movimento B), mesmo eu sentindo mais confiança e controle quando eu batia ela na subida (A), acabei mudando minha batida por acreditar que eles estavam corretos e eu errado.

    Weight shift and loose grip have been responsible for my most recent gains in power. The other has been a change in stringing that added more spin without losing power. This helped by making sure the added power still resulted in balls that didn’t go long. I want to learn the Magnetic move next to get better positioning and power.

      I now use a hybrid setup with Gamma SynGut 15L (w/ Wearguard) on the mains @50lbs and Gamma Jet 17 on the crosses @58lbs. My racquet is a 2019 Babolat Pure Aero.

    @Coachh PATRICK i think we need help with a serve coaching tutorial for players under 5 feet like Schwartzman basically speaking of continental grip which one to use and the base to hold the racquet for example like a hammer or bend it like Rafael Nadal does with his racquet face at 80 degrees, think such a video would be useful as i tried to analyze how short and tall people serve like Zverev, Schwartzman and Fogini on the short people section.

    Hi Patrick, you are probably won't read this message but I had a problem with my last match.
    Let me explain
    I played second round of a national tournament against the first seed and my fellow trainings partner who I have beaten most of the encounters we had at practice but never really came close in a match. At the beginning of the match I was full of energy fighting for every point he started to lead 3-1 with 1 break advantage. I broke back 3-2 won my serve 3-3 and broke again it was 4-3 here and I served, I was up 40-15 made two nervous mistakes but got the advantage Ad-40 and he hit a net which slowly rolled onto my side and that frustrated me. As much as I tried to keep calm I couldn't. I managed to lose the first set 6-4. He went to the bathroom and I saw it as an opportunity to calm down.
    He came back but I got so calm that I lost that fire inside of me made bad errors and thought to myself how couldn't I take the opportunity at 4-3
    I tried to refocus but nothing was working. I lost the match 6-4 6-2 and I was disappointed. What should I do to regain that fire that passion inside me?

    This is a common misconception with regard to "lever-arm". With a longer arm it is the ball that gains the leverage, not the arm where the shoulder is the pivot point. Diagram it out and you will see it. The whip effect you refer to in #3 is a means of transferring momentum to the racket head thus circumventing the ball's leverage advantage. Longer arms have the advantage in that they facilitate a longer whipping motion resulting in a longer acceleration period and ultimately a higher racket head speed. Likewise, an individual's swing that results is a fully, or nearly fully extending swing arm accomplishes the same whip advantage as a "longer" arm. That really should be the subject of your point #4.

    The heavy dependence of power on physical strength and size is obvious for everyone to see in the likes of Sabalenka and the Williams sisters. Yes there are other things that matter significantly, but without nature's help, there is a hard ceiling no one can possibly beat.

    Why is Rune playing so many drop shots? Its like he's hoping for a cheap point or got himself stuck in a training groove. He is a great player but he needs to use his tools intelligently. The drop shot is most effective when the opponent is not expecting it. Putting that aside, the FO2024 4th round experience will build up his confidence and stamina working the big stage. Congratulations.

    A tree is a terrible analogy - nothing beneath the branches moves, it's roots and trunk are heavy and immobile. A better example would be a duck, or a dancer (e.g. river dance), or a skier. For a duck the legs are thrashing away under the water but the body above is serene. That's what we want - not solid, heavy, immobile but a perfectly balanced core, under it the legs and hips are working hard but the platform above is completely relaxed and stable allowing us to swing with power and accuracy.
    The obvious example is Sinner (a professional skier), he clearly came to tennis understanding the feeling, and if you watch he always stays low, his legs are very active but his core is completely stable above allowing him to swing hard and consistently hit his spots.
